I'm only asking for the Discord name as an alternate method of communication in case we have extended or frequent issues with the Paizo forums as happened during a PBP con a couple years ago or recently with the whole Cookie Fiasco. If you don't Discord, that's okay, as I said it's just a backup.

This'll be my first time actually playing Beryl here so her characterization might be a bit bumpy as I try to find her voice.
I'll wrangle Felix over here later once he's up and about~

Gah. Yep, forgot one step in the linkification checklist. It's a good thing they usually overlook mistakes like not putting the landing gear down, given how often I make them. Go ahead and try it now, please.

If you have played or run #6-98 Serpent's Rise on any character, please let me know which Boon(s) you received, either by the name of the boon or the name of the pregen associated with it.
This scenario has a tie-in to one of those six pregens, and there are ... consequences. Bwah, hah, hah. No, actually they're good consequences.

First (correct) gameplay post is up. Feel free to take this opportunity to gather and greet. Sorry about messing up the first post in that thread.
For those of you who played my Grandmaster's Name game, yes, this is the same tavern. For reasons that will become clear later.

Haven’t played, read or run #6-98 Serpent's Rise & the Slide Show editability works! :D

Btw Felix is following the game but this week has been weird with work and the weather and it's made it harder for him to focus on sitting down and writing a post. If need be, move the game along and he'll catch up with things when he can.
GM Nomadical |
I'd like to give Felix a chance to Gather Info, since he's got a specific bonus for that. Especially given how well *cough-not* you all did on it so far.
I'll wait till tomorrow, or if the Great Lady wants to bot him, that's okay too.
Felix Lucius Quirinus |
So sorry for the delays; like the Lady said, it's been a weird week with respect to work and sleep schedules. Things should be back to normal unless Old Man Winter pays us another unwelcome visit, though.
GM Nomadical |
No worries, Felix. I hope you didn't feel pressured into posting when you weren't ready. That certainly wasn't my intent. Thank you for the good post, and now we'll move right along.

Sometimes scenarios want each PC to make a different roll; if that's the case, this is The Armenian Man's roll. But he's better off aiding, so treat this as an Aid Another DC 10 for a +2 to whoever has the highest natural Diplomacy bonus.
Yep. I usually do that when the situation doesn't specify otherwise, especially for PBP when there's not a chance to hash out who is primary and who is aiding. In this case, I certainly would.
Now you folks just gotta get the dice bot to give you something out of the single digits.
Felix Lucius Quirinus |
No, not at all! I'm starting to feel a little pressured by the dice bot, though. Is there somewhere I can make a donation for better rolls or something? >.>

Just to clarify, y'all keep saying "guards" in reference to the militia members you'll meet at the Forest Bounty. These aren't the City Guards.
Per the DC 10 spoiler that a few of you got in this post:
"The Nirmathi are outmatched by the Molthuni in numbers, and so they rely on guerilla tactics to win their war of independence. To this day, the capital Tamran and its surrounds are not protected by a single army but by a loose collection of militias."
And in this post, Valsin tells you:
"Nirmathas has been fighting a guerilla war with Molthune for the better part of a century. I fought there as a mercenary when I was a young man. ... Their militias are top-notch fighters and scouts,...."
And Oraiah said here:
"...talking to the militia patrols is your best bet at learning what’s going on outside the city." (emphasis added)
So, to reiterate, the folks at the Forest Bounty aren't city watchmen, they're guerilla fighters, special ops forest commandos, rangers, etc. responsible for the defense of the city and the surrounding forests and swamps. They're the army of a country that doesn't have a standing army.
And now, without further ado, onward to the Forest Bounty.

I may have not been clear about the situation, so let me rephrase just to be safe. After talking to the unnamed weapons dealer, you then proceed to talk to Gilligam who is a drug dealer. He's the one you need to Sense Motive on regarding his hasty confession and what he's revealed about his source for drugs.
The first paragraph about the void rifle and weapons dealer was just a way to build on your nice RP and give you a pointer to the next person that you actually have to engage with. I should have then broken the second paragraph into 2 parts:
However, as you admire the handiwork, she soon suggests talking to Gilligam who is a purveyor of “contraband substances of all kinds.”
Gilligam is a tall, obese human with a scraggly red chin-beard who sells pipes and other paraphernalia as a front for his more illicit wares. When you inquire about where he gets his supplies, Gilligam feigns cowardice, saying:

I apologize for not having fully described everything as I saw it in my head. It doesn’t specify it, but given that they were watching you, I had mentally placed the woman as still sitting at her table attempting to look like she was minding her own business when she got shadow trapped. She hadn’t had her turn in the initiative order to even stand up before she got trapped and the Armenian Man arrived. Her flute was thus still resting right by her hands in easy reach.
My interpretation of picking up an object provoking has always been from the perspective of someone standing and in combat. When you’re on your feet, toe-to-toe with an armed combatant, and you bend or squat down to pick something up from the floor, that takes your attention off of the opponent and leaves you vulnerable and in an awkward position for combat.
But someone seated, with an item within an easy finger’s reach wouldn’t really be taking her attention from the opponent nor leave herself vulnerable. The action certainly wasn’t aggressive, she didn’t threaten him, and she didn’t meet the condition of the readied action to cast.
Again, my apologies for not specifying that she was still seated and for not fully fleshing out the scene. I guess we could ask a certain Venture Critter if you still disagree.
Though at this point, it's a bit academic. They'll likely surrender if pushed.
GM Nomadical |
Apologies, but I may not be able to make a good post for the next 48 hours. I'm doing annual simulator training and testing (checkride) today and tomorrow. I meant to let you all know, but got wrapped up in prepping for it.

Aaaannnnnd, we're back!
Thanks for the support. Training and eval went just fine. I'm on my days off now, so I'll be able to keep up easily for the next couple weeks.
I moved you all into the large room at the end of the hall and positioned you in the room as if you'd entered in line behind Felix. (Sure, put the level 1 out front. What good friends!)
And you all won initiative (except Abdara. Sorry, YiM), so this may not take long, anyway.
Amestra Veen |
"Oh, hey, Eadie. Wow, I'd almost forgotten about that night. I mean, not really, cause it was a lot of fun," she says shyly while blushing to the tips of her half-elven ears. "But it's not like I remembered much at the time either."
For those that weren't there, your GM's own Amestra Veen and a certain Aussie's Eadie Navhelan may have done the dirty. Though details are exceedingly sparse and there was a lot of liquor involved.
Eadie Navhelan |
“Yeah, I was like, so surprised at the regional variations on the game of Harrow cards. Though as Aunt Alix used to say, ‘Travel broadens the mind.’”
"But it's not like I remembered much at the time either."
“That’s cool, Amy. Now that you’ve been immortalized in popular song, you’ll be reminded of those events everywhere you go!”

You know what I think is cool about this?
Being able to find and game with like-minded people from all over the world that Get It™ :)
Drelluandast |
Alright, Drelluandast could copy the following spells from the books we found:
- Animate Rope (10 gp)
- Blurred Movement (10 gp)
- Burning Hands (10 gp)
- Color Spray (10 gp)
- Corrosive Touch (10 gp)
- Expeditious Retreat (10 gp)
- Monkey Fish (10 gp)
- Silent Image (10 gp)
- Sleep (10 gp)
- Vocal Alteration (10 gp)
All together, 100 gp. If Drelluandast can Take 10 on the Spellcraft checks (result of 17 vs DC 16), he can scribe all of them over a period of 10 hours. Are there any problems with that, @GM?

No worries at all, mate! (Dear gods, the damn Aussie's got me sayin' it now!)
The opportunity to find and copy from spellbooks is so limited, I certainly want you to take advantage of it. It's honestly why I prompted you all about going back. It sucks to find out "Oh, we could have gotten that ________ (boon, item, spellbook, etc) if only we'd done (whatever)."
Had you chosen to not go back, though, my hands would have been tied. As it is, all good.
But maybe wait till you resolve the conversation with Guaril that you still need to undertake. Yes, there's a little more RP for reporting purposes (but no more combat).
GM Nomadical |
We've got 5 votes to give it all to Guaril, albeit with some trepidation. I'd like to hear if the Armenian Man has a strong opinion one way or another before declaring consensus. Maybe he'll change some minds. Or not.
FWIW, this decision gets reported as either "They gave the evidence to Guaril," or "They gave the evidence to the local VC (Tolal.)" Though at this point in the campaign, I presume it's moot.
I've seen some feedback from players asking to have the parts of the chronicles that don't apply be whited out to reduce ink. I've started doing that, and will cover the Tier 4-5 treasure and any boons that don't apply. I'll gladly post those details in spoilers here afterwards for those that are curious. If you really want to print those parts, let me know and I'll uncover them on your chronicle.
I've annotated the spells that Drelluandast copied from the captured spellbooks on his chronicle. If anyone has anything else they want noted, please let me know.
Drelluandast |
Oh, thanks for the reminder Gnoda!
Craft (calligraphy), Crafter’s Fortune, Take 10: 10 + 12 + 5 = 27
I don’t think Drelluandast has any faction-related accomplishments this game, but no worries.

Profession (fortune teller): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Profession (fortune teller), shirt reroll: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Don’t mind either way about ‘whited out’ Chronicles. Whatever’s easier for you, GM Nomadical.
“Good night, good night. Parting is such sweet sorrow,
That I shall say good night til it be morrow.”
Take 10 Perform (act): 10 + 17 = 27 ☞ 50gp
Beryl of the Gun |
Day Job (Profession: Guide): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Since I'm almost purely an online player these days I don't usually print my chronicles anyway so do whatever's easiest for you, GM!
GM Nomadical |
Looking at Felix's sheet, it does not look like he has a Day Job skill. If I'm wrong about that, I'll gladly update his chronicle.
Otherwise, here's your Chronicles! If there's anything wrong, please don't be afraid to yell at me.
Thanks so much for playing this. I hope I ran it well for everyone, and that everyone had fun. If there's anything I could have done to make it smoother or more understandable, please let me know.
I'll see you all around the boards!
Beryl of the Gun |
My chronicle looks good! Thanks for running, GM, and thank you to everyone else for being such great players to play with :)
