Thanks for the heads up about neutral enemies, I'm actually not too worried about that. However I would like smite to be effective for the few times it comes on line, I've re-read the holy gun archetype and I'd missed that it's version of smite is a standard action (so no full attacks) and worse it seems it can't get quick clear till level 11, oh and the archetype doesn't have detect evil.
Sadly it would be more effective to take a 1 level gunslinger dip (say mysterious stranger for charisma based grit) and then go regular paladin.

FangDragon |

Huh Mysterious Stranger rules out Quick Clear for some reason, and there's no decent way of getting it back as far as I can tell. Sorry for being indecisive, translating my concept into a build is proving to be surprisingly hard. Apparently firearms in pathfinder are full of traps for the unwary (as you can probably tell I've not tried to build something like this before).
I think I'll just go with the siege gunner gunslinger into magus build from my earlier submission, pretty sure that works and it has most the powder mage vibe I was going for.

Today is a good day to... halp |

@Today is a good day to... halp: Tough class with the Volur archetype is probably fine, but I could see things getting a little busted depending on spell list/spells selected. So tentative yes, but things end up being unbalanced in play, then tweaks might be needed.
No problem, GM Fanguar- since it does sound like you got access to Anarchronistic Adventures, I'll go with creating a Dragonkin Tough with the Volur archetype of Druidic spells that'll utilize the Skyseer theme.
Not sure if you also have access to Kobold Press' Advanced Races Compendium but I was thinking of taking some Alternate Dragonkin racial traits- namely, Elemental Master [constant personal Endure Elements in place of the natural armor bonus and energy resistance] and Scaled Strength [+4 carrying capacity only in place of the Fly class skill], if that'll be okay by you.
And just outta curiosity, would a RNC recruit be expected to learn the use of firearms if their class doesn't normally give access to firearms?
Thank you. And yes, I personally love third party stuff - it opens up so many character builds that Paizo's own material can't handle, like poor Miselle's suit - but I understand for some it has a negative reputation, and I don't wanna spoil the game for others simply with my class choice. It's a co-operative game after all, and Spheres of Might looks complicated and potentially game breaking.
Y'know, if you happen to have access to Anachronistic Adventures, mebbe you could go with the Device Wielder archetype to go with a base class, like the Luminary, from there? ;)

I don't have it, but those replacement racial traits seem fine. No, RHC officers don't get firearm training. We are using the commonplace guns rules, so firearms are only considered martial weapons, but if you don't have the proficiency, you'll have to use a feat or dip a level of something else.
Reminder to all that the cutoff for submissions is this Friday.

Alexandra (Alex) Stray
Alexandra was found as a babe along the Stray River almost 30 years ago within a basket by some of the local mill workers. It was obvious from her appearance that she was not fully human, she was half-fae, left by one parent or another for a multitude of possible reasons to be taken in by others. She was taken to an orphanage and raised there.
She was given the name Alexandra Stray by Sister Wralen, who ran the orphanage. Her first name was for a lost sister and last name the place she was found. She proved the best car she was able for the young child.
It was evident that beyond the physical abilities of Alex that she was a bright child. Like many environments she was a target of teasing and some bullying. But she made herself two good friends, Joseph a large boy who was a gentle person until angered became a protector. The other Amalee, a lithe and cunning girl the same age who used her wits to thwart those same bullies also earned their attention.
The trio were inseparable in good and bad times. Once they were old enough they joined the Risuri Navy together. They proved how well that they worked together and as such, were kept as part of a unit. They performed well and proved themselves many times.
In the last weeks of the The Fourth Yerasol war, the unit was boarding one of the Dranorian vessels. The Captain had surrendered but his First Officer rounded up much of the crew and decided that the battle was far from over. The trio stormed the lower decks and the battle was rather brutal. Amalee was the first injured, losing one of her hands. As many of them were subdued but before the First Officer was able to knock Joseph to the ground and take him as a hostage, holding a dagger to his throat demanding escape. As the team leader would not relent, the Officer murdered Jossph and Alex made sure he followed him soon after. The death of her childhood friend broke Alexandra mentally.
The Yerasol War ended less than a week later. Alexandra was relieved of her duties and as her despair continued discharged from the Navy. Amalee attempted to reach her friend, she too lost her best friend, but was not able too and they grew apart for a time.
Years later, on the streets of Flin within the slum housing of Cauldron Hill a fellow resident was being robbed and Alex intervened and managed to catch the thief just as the constabulary arrived. Both were taken into custody for questioning where Amalee was a ranking officer. Seeing her friend she attempted to reach out once again. Alex was in a place where she accepted the help, was able to get cleaned up. Knowing her friend well Amalee was able to get her a position with the constabulary.
Alexandra’s smarts, intuition, and skills made her a fine constable and she was able to prove herself quickly that she had what it took to be a fine officer. With a little over a year as a Constable she uncovered a connection between several robberies within the warehouse district. During her investigation she arrested a man whom she thought to be one of those running the ring, Kurbar Danst. She provided the proof she was able to accumulate and provided them to her superiors. The following day she discovered Danst had been released and she taken off the case with no reason given. While angry at all the work she had done, she knew better than protest. She was even warned off by her friend Amalee.
Alexandra continued her regular duties but in her free time, pursued the matter secretly knowing. She watched and was able to again track down Danst. She merely followed him and was able to see that there was so much more to the operation than she had initially discovered. It was several more weeks of observing that late one evening on the docks she saw that Danst was being beaten along the edge chained to a chair. She could not hear most of the conversation, but what she did catch surprised even her. Danst was being accused of being an agent of the Royal Homeland Constabulary. That revelation, if true, made so many things make sense. Danst would not admit to anything and his beating continued. His main interrogator, after a time shrugged and waved to the others who pushed him off the docks into the water as they all walked away. Alex drove into the water and made her way to Danst and was able to free the man after some doing and dragged him to the surface beneath the dock. At first he was not breathing but after a few moments coughed up water. He was alive, just barely. She was able to get him ashore not too far and able to call her fellow constables for aid.
After the incident she was kept from knowing what would happen to Danst and continued her duties and was forced to turn over anything information pertaining to her surveillance. She tried to track down those that had done this to him but the operation seemed to have ceased or moved elsewhere. A month later she was called into her superior’s office where she was questioned at length over what she had done against orders. As her superior shook his head at her actions saying that they were done. After leaving the room Alex thought perhaps she was being dismissed when Danst appeared in uniform of the Royal Homeland Constabulary. He firstly thanked her for saving his life. He knew he would not have survived otherwise. Danst also explained that he was not a local agent from Flint and departing soon, that he had a proposal for her. She was being offered a position within the Royal Homeland Constabulary, after she passed a few tests first of course. He told her to seriously consider the offer and that he thought she would make a fine addition. Thanking her once again, Danst departed.

May i apply with two ideas i am equally happy about?
I feel like in a group getting together for a campaing and i can in this case switch between two concepts of characters and are happy either way.
Otherwise i have to flip a coin or go the route of what has not been offered so far. As i am torn between Yerasol Veteran and Technologist.

Today is a good day to... halp |

Presenting to the RHC as a prospective character...
Name/Gender: "Macdonovan", Male
Alignment/Race/Class/Archetype: NG Dragonkin Tough [Volur=Druidic Spells] 3pp, all the way. ;)
Theme: Skyseer
Stats: Str:16*, Dex:12, Con:12, Int:11, Wis:12, Cha:16*
Str=Strong/Burly/Tall/Big; Cha=Stubborn/Willful/Good-natured/Noticeable
Feats: Toughness[free], Skyseer[theme, free], WpProf:Firearms[1st]
Favored Class Bonus: +1 skill/level
Appearance/Description: 64 yr. old; 7'1" tall; 330 lbs.; Brassy scales with rust colored crests. Tall as RL Shaq; probably will occupy the big-sized, non-human/non-core niche.
Background: Having chosen the more human-like moniker of "Macdonovan", the Dragonkin Tough/Volur recruit proudly represents the Skyseers under the illustrious auspices of the RHC.
1. How long has he been on the force? 2 to 3 years now; the RHC clearly doesn't know what to make of him. ;)
2. What prompted the RHC to recruit him, or, if he applied, why did they accept his application? The RHC gains the support of the venerable Skyseers- folk soothsayers of all Risur. And as a token humanoid of "Ber-origins" [Macdonovan was born and raised in Risur, btw], the RHC can expand their prospective recruits to more than just humans.
3. Why did he accept/apply? He was "encouraged" to apply by the Skyseers to be their representative on the [RHC] force. Physically, Macdonovan can easily thrive under RHC training [abuse?]; he also makes the perfect catspaw for the Skyseers... in a manner of speaking. The Skyseers don't have to send any of their precious druid or ranger members among their declining numbers; as Macdonovan has druid spells in his repertoire but not the training in the Druidic language, he certainly couldn't be ordered to reveal the secret druid language to the RHC. A perfectly win-win situation for everyone involved indeed.
Minor notes: has Elemental Master and Scaled Strength alternate racial traits, for the extra two Tough class skills, Survival and Knowledge:Nature has been chosen.

If you want to, that's fine with me.

So far i have a lot of question how my ideas to create my character can be done with alternate rules for feats, skills and an unfamiliar setting for me.
I am having a learning curve for first time difference how feats works so drastically and skills on top too.
Talis Lomond - Yerasol Veteran
Female Human Cavalier (Archetype Constable) that archetype replaces the mount from a Cavalier so i don't have to worry about a horse in this setting.
She is a Yerasol Veteran and i want to build her that she can take the presige class The Monument of War, because i really like the flavour of that presitige class.
Ability scores
- Strength 16
- Dexterity 14
- Constitution 10
- Intelligence 12
- Wisdom 8
- Charisma 16
Role: Melee combat most of the time, leader tactical (guessing you can say that with all the teamwork feats i plan to throw around), Diplomacy and voice of reason to take prisoners as first option if combat is the option left In that order how it will manifest we will see
My questions:
My first question for level 1 is i will get Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat but with the Elephant in the Room rules i am not sure what to do.
How to handle Orders for Samurai/Cavalier in this setting?
I picked the Order of the Blue Rose and here on Archives of Nethys is everything i know so far of that Order or however we will end up calling that organization. How do we handle that? Because that Order sounds perfect.
So since nonlethal damage and how you "apply" it works different in this campaign.
Flat of the Blade (Ex): At 2nd level, the cavalier of the order of the blue rose gains the ability to moderate his attacks in order to take an enemy alive. He no longer takes a –4 penalty when attacking with a lethal weapon to deal nonlethal damage. When dealing nonlethal damage, the cavalier receives a +2 bonus on damage rolls. When the cavalier makes use of this ability, he must attempt to subdue his target without killing it; dealing lethal damage after using this ability, or allowing his allies to kill the target, is considered a violation of his edicts.
She can crit while doing that? Thoughts?
Teamwork feats should hopefully fit in smoothly with the system for feats we use here. Because using and temporary giving teamworkfeats is one of the core mechanics for a Cavalier.
1. How long have you been on the force? (FYI the RNC is 30 years old. You start off at the bottom of the seniority list, so if you are a veteran, why haven't you advanced?)
Nearly two years.
2. What prompted the RNC to recruit you, or, if you applied, why did they accept your application?
She applied and told them she needed a purpose and to do some real action and not only training and a desk job would drive her more and more nuts over time.
Before she could confess the officer told her with a wink those drunken fellas had it coming.
There are some perks for being a Heroine of War and well you are being watched apparently.
3. Why did you accept/apply? (Note: Candidates submit to extensive magical mind reading before they are accepted. The RNC has never been infiltrated by a spy, so no double agents allowed. Your loyalty to Risur is beyond reproach.)
Being shown around as one of the heroes and being a docent for various places teaching tactics, martial arts and stuff like that, but also a speaker and being hired to attend at a few wedding ceremonies took a toll.
All those wanna-be heroes of war spending their time on training for battle without a real battle, all those rich ones hiring a speaker and a Heroine of War to show off for whatever reason it only kept her busy in front of crowds but could not reach her.
All in all she was formed in war and had seen too many lives lost, had pressed her hands on wounds to prevent bleeding out only to hear last breaths.
Sitting at a desk with a bottle just in hands reach or a watch dog of the gouvernment keeping the bottles away, while she continues to smile and keep in shape just enough to continue to give the vibe of a veteran. Nope, there must be a way out of there.
So she went out drinking one night and a few fellas having drunken enough liquid courage to talk their minds started talking really bad about the Kingdom, the King and she snapped and beat them all unconscious. One of them had a gun but was no match for her, becaus why should she be scared of a single pistol when she just could grab him across that table?
She felt real again and all that adrenaline cleared her mind being in a real fight again, way better then emptying several bottles of beer she tried that night.
4. Brief character sketch. (You can even just describe your character in terms of other fictional characters, or just in terms of your ability score descriptions.)
Nobody can ignore her impressive build full of muscles.
Her fellow members of the Royal Homeland Constabulary constantly see her being absent minded and never getting paperwork done on time.
A natural leader and that cute smile wins nearly everyone over!
That example for low Wisdom was short and perfect for what i had in mind.^^
--------
Sure she is a Heroine and did fill out the role of an officer although being none, her superior was being an idiot again and she pulled him just a moment too late into cover although she saw how a shot was lined up. It was on purpose! She new it would kill him.
The moment she deliberately did nothing and just pretended to help that officer and basically killing him haunts her especially until today. How could she act so coldly and calculated? "If he dies, we all will not loose our lives for a suicide mission."
She naturally gave orders and made them retreat although the now dead officer was all about moving forward and it went into a rearguard battle, but they all made it out alive and she and her men and women blow up teeny tiny outpost from the enemy and made it to safety with a stolen boat afer destroying all the other vessels. Nothing build for high seas only good for hopping from island to island or being in constant view of the shoreline at the furthest, all in all an unimportant vessel.
Nobody wanted to hear how she killed her officer by not pulling him back to cover and making all of them retreat and not capturing that tiny piece of land. She lead the majority to survive and destroyed a tiny outpost and stole an unimportant vessel.
Swimming was not an option and destroying all the other vessel to not be followed was only logical.
Without showing it often enough she keeps up a poker face and is trapped in that violent past on her inside and on the other hand is not capable of living a peaceful life.
So there is a deeper meaning behind loosing her wisdom!
Edit to add: Sorry about only using she and her but i decided on a name for her right now not during i wrote all this textwall.
Medeia Selene Vance - Technologist
For sure i will take a feat to give her profiency in martial weapons at first level other then that i can flesh her out later.
Female Human Alchemist (Archetype Vaultbreaker)
Ability scores
- Strength 8
- Dexterity 18
- Constitution 10
- Intelligence 16
- Wisdom 10
- Charisma 10
Role: Disabling traps and i guess kind of ranged combat (not that much range) and skills
1. How long have you been on the force? (FYI the RNC is 30 years old. You start off at the bottom of the seniority list, so if you are a veteran, why haven't you advanced?)
A year and a half.
2. What prompted the RNC to recruit you, or, if you applied, why did they accept your application?
Medeia broke into a place she did not know it was a place for storing potential dangerous technological stuff confiscated by RNC.
She took some of the interesting stuff and when she was done with her research she brought it back to where she 'found' it.
After returning home she walked in found a man investigating her blueprints she collected or made herself over the years and a grim looking woman suddenly behind her.
"We don't want to arrest you but we have a few questions and potentially a job to offer. Although if we don't like your answers we rethink the part of arresting you for stealing from RNC."
After a stressful interrogation and learning Medaia had brought it back and had reengineered the functions and the weak parts of that device she 'burrowed' Medeia was recruited.
3. Why did you accept/apply? (Note: Candidates submit to extensive magical mind reading before they are accepted. The RNC has never been infiltrated by a spy, so no double agents allowed. Your loyalty to Risur is beyond reproach.)
Medeia's other choice would have been something like home detention and being used to find out what certain potentially dangerous devices could do and loosing her freedom or plain simpe prison or worse.
Having a job and being allowed to work on and with wonderful technology and continue to 'hunt' for shiny stuff although now she can't keep it beats the alternatives doesn't it? ;)
4. Brief character sketch. (You can even just describe your character in terms of other fictional characters, or just in terms of your ability score descriptions.)
She always needs help to carry her stuff around and does not seem to have developed any muscles at all during training. Don't ask her to lift something heavy for sure!
She moves with the grace of a cat, has a great balance and reacts fast.
She is a pretty fast learner.

Here is my 2nd submission.
Alsah Brightmoon
Changling, female, witch, skyseer
1. How long have you been on the force? (FYI the RNC is 30 years old. You start off at the bottom of the seniority list, so if you are a veteran, why haven't you advanced?)
Alsah is a new recruit, on her first assignment
2. What prompted the RNC to recruit you, or, if you applied, why did they accept your application?
Alsah has just moved to flint and was looking for a job when she saw that the RNC was recruiting. She applied and demonstrated useful abilities and a fresh outlook that impressed her examiners. Being able to see in the dark certainly helped
3. Why did you accept/apply? (Note: Candidates submit to extensive magical mind-reading before they are accepted. The RNC has never been infiltrated by a spy, so no double agents allowed. Your loyalty to Risur is beyond reproach.)
Alsah believes It is fate that she joins the RNC. She genuinely wants to do a good job and is loyal to the kingdom. She moved to the city from the isles to escape her mother, an evil witch. The RNC is a break from her past.
4. Brief character sketch. (You can even just describe your character in terms of other fictional characters, or just in terms of your ability score descriptions.)
Alsah has a sunny disposition, is extremely smart, and has a dark side she tries to suppress. This dark side emerges when she is angry, making her intimidating. She is afraid her mother is seeking her but has decided to make a stand and run her own life. She experienced the war as a child and has mixed views on it. She hated the violence and destruction, but the war enabled her to escape the clutches of her mother. She has wandered Risiur, and has a great affection for the place. A chance meeting with some druids leads her to the study of the stars, and how the planets influence the world. So she became a skyseer

Touch up on Ivan the black powder inquisitor
1.How long have you been on the force? (FYI the RNC is 30 years old. You start off at the bottom of the seniority list, so if you are a veteran, why haven't you advanced?)
Ivan has been on the force for about a year and has gained a reputation for being good for repairing guns, and for being very dedicated in his investigations. Seen as a bit morose, and somewhat grumpy, he has done some good work. He is seen as useful on matters involving the rare issues with undead threats.
2. What prompted the RNC to recruit you, or, if you applied, why did they accept your application?
Ivan’s family immigrated to Risur from Drakr when he was small, and he grew up in Flint. Despite a fair bit of discrimination, Ivan was taught from a young age to obey the law and to be diligent. The RNC decided to recruit more minorities, and Ivan was recommended for the job by Dima, a dwarven priest working for the RNC, after helping her deal with some undead.
3. Why did you accept/apply? (Note: Candidates submit to extensive magical mind-reading before they are accepted. The RNC has never been infiltrated by a spy, so no double agents allowed. Your loyalty to Risur is beyond reproach.)
Ivan joined the RNC as he wants to help society and to promote his people in it. Although he has a somewhat gloomy, pessimistic, outlook, he supports the idea of the RNC and the kingdom in general. He sees the possibility of advancement in the RNC, and better guns. Very modern in his outlook.
4. Brief character sketch. (You can even just describe your character in terms of other fictional characters, or just in terms of your ability score descriptions.)
Ivan is a dwarf of average size and a keen perception of things. He is cleaning and checking his pistol (s) whenever he can and is happy to help maintain other constables firearms, though he is rather judgemental of those who do not keep them well. He is a good questioner, and good at gathering information. He is a stickler for the law and applies it fairly as he can.
Ivan worked in a weapons manufacture centre during the war and came out of that with ambitions to find or make the best guns.
Religiously he follows Heid Eschatol, and likes to help people find proper and good endings

Bryn Wilde |

Here is Bryn Wilde, a Martial Scientist War Master.
Depending on the final party composition, Bryn's feat selection can be adjusted. Team work feats would reinforce the tactical commander theme of the class, but for now I plan to use the cornugon smash/hurtful chain and intimidate to add some debuffing.
@all - I'm also open to build suggestions/discussions - I'm always curious to see what directions others would go in.

Today is a good day to... halp |

I wonder if the lack of eschatologists was partly due to being tied in with the dwarves, who all seem russian-like in this setting [maybe with a dash of ASoFaI's "Winter's coming" motif]. ;p
Also, good to have a fellow 3pp class with Bryn Wilde's entry to the RHC. :)
Just a reminder that today is the cutoff for applications. I think everyone who was going to apply has put something together, but if you have any last minute modifications, get them in ASAP.
Apart from forgetting to mention about Macdonovan's everpresent tail [truly, the RHC Quartermasters would look upon equipping him with the requisite RHC uniform/clothing with either abject horror or pure eagerness at the challenge], I'd say his main 1st level spells known would be something to the effect of Starsight and Brightest Night. ;p

Tigerkralle |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Eschatologist was too depressing for me, personally.
So the dwarves in this setting fulfill those stereoptypes for you?
Careful what you imply there, please.
Clearly every creator is a child of the culture and well zeitgeist of the moments before and during creation of a setting and adventures in that setting.
So let's not jump to conclusions early on.
Other themes in the player's guide were simply more to the taste of potential players, that's all we can say at this point.
------------------
I created two Aliases for the two potential characters and have found avatars and i realized we still need more avatars on this board!
I have not defined the age for either submission so Medeia Selene Vance will fall into the category of being an adult with no impact of the ageing rules.
Talis Lomond could maybe be middle age with an impact on the stats? But then i would have to rethink the way i spent my points.
So should the age of the character fall into adult area but not already middle age because of higher mental ability scores which are for casters and social character especially powerful?
Handwave and no adjustment of ability scores and age is flavour?

No worries, Tigerkralle- definitely agreed upon each theme being more to the tastes of others [certainly was true with my own character] and I'll offer my apologies for any careless flippancy upon my own end; no offense intended.
Admittedly, I had toyed with the idea of creating a secondary Dwarven akashic Guru [3pp] character using the Eschatologist theme but there wouldn't have been enough time to get any approval for the new 3pp class before the deadline though. ;)

Eschatologist was too depressing for me, personally.
I see a lot of parallels to the Babylon 5 technomages. The philosophy doesn't have to be fatalistic; after all, it could be viewed as having the best intent. How to end things without pain, or at least minimal pain. Perhaps with a hint of sorrow or altruistic resignation. Knowing that all things end is one thing, but seeing that they're also new beginning and doing your best to make peaceful transitions is very John Lennon...

Also, good to have a fellow 3pp class with Bryn Wilde's entry to the RHC. :)
Thankfully GM Fanguar is open to the idea. I originally planned on trying out the engineer class, but it looked like someone else was pushing for a battle suit pilot concept already. At least a war master requires less paperwork - no need to manage a 2nd "pet".

but yeah, I miss B5 also. Vir Cotto was my favorite.
I really should get round to watching the expanse, I've read all the books of course.
Vir and G'kar were great together, too bad many of the cast have passed away.

I was just thinking the same... especially with the recent passing of Mira Furlan.

I liked Londo and G'kar. Both had really great arcs

Seeing the discussion is set up and to my surprise six players and the fact i did not get a message, it's time to congratulate the concepts which were picked and move on?
Congratulations to everyone who offered a concept picked for this campaign!
May the dicebot be kind to you and that all of you players and gamemaster have the endurance to play the whole campaign.

cool, Any good?
Haven't seen the remastered version myself; was lucky enough to have caught a lot of B5 during its' regular non-cable-TV broadcast run. ;)

Seconded- congrats to all the new RHC recruits; now go on and make Risur proud. :)
PS. Not gonna lie, I'm totally stoked that a 3pp class made it in; 3pp's needs some more love out there. ;)
