Google Slides mobile and I have an ongoing battle of wits and Google Slides is winning. I'll fill out the slides as soon as I can sit at a computer. Apologies for forgetting over the weekend.

I have the same issues on my tablet. The best way I have found to do it on mobile is copy all the text off to a separate doc, edit there, then paste it back to the slide and hope you weren’t in there at the same time as someone else.

I generally wait until I am at a regular computer before filling the text on the slides out.

Interesting. I didn't know so many people do PbP on tablets. I can't even move tokens around a map on my iPad.

I wonder if a Google "Word" (.docx) document or Google Sheet for the player macros would be more usable in general (and also whether linking separate doc, in addition to Slides, would be worthwhile).

As a GM I have found that the macros page setup really saves me time, though I don't see many other GMs doing it either. (Hope you don't mind an aside — I'm always interested in improving workflows).

A regular Google Doc is what I usually copy the text into. I don’t know how much different a Word doc in Google docs would be.

Spreadsheet is also very easy for me to deal with on tablet.

Does Beginners Box have exploration mode activities?

I don’t have a copy of the beginner’s box, so I don’t know how much of what rules they left out.

Yes.

• Avoid Notice
• Defend
• Detect Magic
• Hustle
• Investigate
• Scout
• Search
• Sense Direction (Survival skill, Hero’s Handbook 59)
• Track (Survival skill, Hero’s Handbook 59)

Sense Direction:

Tags: Exploration, Secret

You spend a minute or so to get oriented in the wild. You use a compass and can be aided by using the stars, the position of the sun, and the environment around you. Typically, you attempt a Survival check only once per day, but some environments or changes might necessitate rolling more often.

Critical Success You get an excellent sense of where you are and know where the cardinal directions are exactly.

Success You gain enough orientation to avoid becoming hopelessly lost. You have a sense of the cardinal directions, but it’s not exact.

Failure You can’t determine your location or the cardinal directions.

Track:

Tags: Concentrate, Exploratin, Move

You follow tracks while you’re traveling, moving at up to half your travel speed (see Exploration on page 61 for rules on traveling). The GM determines the DCs for such checks, depending on the freshness of the trail, the weather, and the type of ground. You attempt your Survival check when you start Tracking.

Success You find the trail or continue to follow the one you’re already following. You can keep following it for 1 hour or until something changes in the trail, at which point the GM will have you roll a new check.

Failure You spend an hour searching, but you lose the trail.

Critical Failure You lose the trail and get lost, wasting 24 hours as you find your way back to where you started.

Jumping on some of these questions as I'm GMing BB soon and did some prep already. Speaking of, Kruppe will be letting others make the big decisions.

Updated the slides. Apologies again.

I can type in GoogleSheets and GoogleDocs just fine. I used to be able to GoogleSlides just fine, too, but something changed a while back.

I actually prefer to do my PbP on a computer, but I try to keep up by mobile device when I'm on the move. The first Monday back after a holiday vacation had me hopping, as I expected.

I wanted to come back around to this because the Beginner Box does use simplified rules, perhaps more simple than we're used to.

The combat guide for this adventure uses Perception for initiative, although, beyond that, the GM Guide and the The Heroes Handbook note that players may use stealth instead if they were Avoiding Notice.

Only Biltri's second attack hit, so Rat 1 fell to Dethor's strike.

Biltri's second attack was a critical hit/natural 20 (7 x 2).

It would be helpful to me, at least, with the strategic part of the game to see where our damage numbers are going on our targets. It is confusing to see Rat #1 take 27 damage and then Rat #3 "almost killed" by 6 cold damage and go down, presumably, by 4 additional damage.

Either something like:

Mook 1 (-7 hp)
Mook 2 (-5 hp)

Or at least tracking hits and damage in the description of the turn's resolution, like this: Bauxite's hammer misses rat #3, but Kruppe nearly kills it with a Ray of Frost (-6 hp). Biltri then lands the killing blow with his battle axe (-4 hp). Biltri takes another swing, this time at rat #2, but misses.

Malevolence

Oh, my mistake, I'm sorry. I didn't see that was a nat 20. Rat #1 is definitely dead! We could then move Dethor's attack to rat #2.

Thanks for your feedback. I'll list the mooks with their damage and try to be more clear going forward!

I would like to thank Kruppe for shooting a ray of frost out of a fish, and Baux for helping protect a friend against poisons.

I feel it's a little early to give out hero points, as we've only just begun, but I do plan to do so as we go along.

For now I'll just say thank you to everyone for getting us off to a fun start!

Kruppe would like to study the writings of this mad accountant the next day. Should have already known the magic on the scroll ("If you find a scroll, you can try to figure out what spell it contains. If the spell is a common spell from your spell list or a spell you know, you can spend a single Recall Knowledge action and automatically succeed at identifying the scroll’s spell. If it’s not, you must use Identify Magic (page 238) to learn what spell the scroll holds.")

You each earned 14 gold, 4 XP, and 4 reputation.

You won't level between parts one and two, but you will after a certain point in part two. And you can certainly go into town and buy new equipment.

I don't think there is anything in the equipment list that I would want.

I do not have enough strength for better armor. I probably have enough weapons right now, about all I could see doing is picking up an extra starknife for ranged combat. I don't see anything in the equipment that I really need.

Since this is Beginner's Box, I assume we are limited to the equipment in the Character Creation doc.

Could probably use an extra medical kit.
They're expensive, but if we don't have access to potions, scrolls, or elixirs, there's not much else to spend the gold on, but the obscenely expensive levered crowbar (20 gp) and expert climbing gear (40 gp).

But I'd much rather spend it on potions and scrolls. :)

EDIT: Reading Dethor's comment, I probably should buy a bludgeoning weapon.

Good to know!

I guess once we get up there I will try to figure out what to buy.

I don’t know which of these might be in BB, but here is a list of trinkets that I would look for:
Ladder feather token
Holy water
Elixir of Life or Healing potions.
Scroll of Heal, just to have a backup.

Malevolence

yes, you can buy whatever you normally could at level one.

All of the above are good.

The less Athletic might want a leaping potion each.
Some extra healing potions to have on hand just in case.
Some scrolls to keep Kruppe's offensive arsenal stocked and flexible.

A warhammer costs 1 gp.

If we've got 9 gp (13 gp - 4 gp) to spare, I could upgrade to splintmail.

Warhammer 1 gp

5 kobolds acted where there are only 4. #4 appears to have either acted twice or had one too many action (though I guess they could have some form of quick draw).

Sorry if that post was confusing, Kobold #1 didn't act. It died at the end of the round to Dethor's short sword. And yes, the kobolds can draw and throw from either the chest or from table as one action.

We're nearing the end of Menace Under Otari! Going deeper into the kobold warren, you'll want to be prepared. So after this encounter with the xulgaths it will be time to advance your characters to second level!
