Roll20 is being weird and won't let me move my pawn, so I'll just narrate what I want to do to keep things moving.

Somewhat surprised by the sudden manifestation of "throwing things with his mind power," Thal moves forward and extends his hand, hoping the "blasty power" will happen again.

Thallin stepped in front of the door and looked into the darkness at the billowy membranes of the weird flying creatures. Pointed at the one in front of Straug and a jolt of electricity went straight out to strike a pew and scorch it, barely missing the creature.

The hair on the back of your neck is standing up. You dont know why but you sense danger....There's something...youre missing. something close.

Straug swung at the Darkmantle attacking him, and his red hot axe barely misses.

The creature in front of Straug starts to descend reaching outward with a barbed tentacle. Once again the Dwarf stayed clear of the tentacle.

Tark is still in the dance with the dark predator, but the barking obviously unnerved it enough that it was at a distance.

So, these things don’t just see in the dark; they can see without eyes (blindsight). Watch out for the tentacles, because they can grab you. And Thal, I don’t know what all weird things you can do now, but if you think you can wrack their minds, it might work (low will save). Frigus!

As he speaks, Cathoris moves up to the doorway and fires of another frosty ray, once again missing the blighters.

Alexander takes a step over the bench, jumping slightly to avoid the creatures around him and landing in a spot to try and flank one of the creatures with Straug. He glances towards Cathoris as he speaks and lets out a small chuckle.

Cathoris relays some of the things he remembered about these creatures, and once more points his frost ray at them. it misses and whiten's some stone of the wall.

Alex performs some acrobatics and pivots driving his rapier into a wounded flying squid. The creature fell to drape over a pew. The darkness lessened yet again.

Helgash and Tark assaulted the creature near them. Helgash crushed the creature to the pew with a swing, while Tark missed between barks.

Kronk swung his sledge at the last one. The heavy sledge cracked its carapace, but the creature still lived.

'Cant get your grabbies on this dwarf!', Straug bellows as he dodges the tentacle. 'I suppose Angradd is looking out for me in his own way.'

Seeing that the last one is wounded Straug tries to put it out of its misery with a swipe of his Greataxe.

"Wrack their minds? Probably not, but maybe I can whack their minds!" Thal calls out, using his mental powers to throwing a chunk of rubble at the one trying to grab Straug.

Thallin once more flings a rock at the remaining Darkmantle. It misses and rattles against the wall.

Straug is busily swearing and swinging his axe, and for some reason these flying beats have eluded him.

The flying squid continues its unrelenting attack on the dwarf. But though the Dwarf hasnt been effective at hitting, all that motion with the axe has kept the creature off him.

Cathoris steps up and around Straug to get close to the beast. Taking his quarterstaff in both hand he swings into the darkness. His eyes struggled to adjust to the darkness.

Alex steps around the pillar, coming up behind the creature and takes a stab at it.

Squeezing into the room, Cathoris swings his staff, It passed in the air near the mass of tentacles.

Helgash positions himself to be opposite Straug and swings at the flying squid. He frowns when his attack comes close but not quite.

However Tark, having had enough of these elusive creatures jumps into the air and grabs a tentacle his teeth piercing it. Growling he begins to tug on it trying to pull it to the ground.

Alex steps up and thrusts with his blade, it is close, but glances off the carapace.

Kronk swings the sledge downward over his head opposite Tark. The sledge hitting it so hard it passed completely through the carapce ichor splattering onto all in the room. Tark, Helgash, Straug and Cathoris all receive Darkmantle blood spatters.

Well, that’s done with. Is everyone okay?

While he waits for the others, Cathoris mutters some arcane words and taps his forehead casting detect magic.


The only thing that gives any indication there was ...or might be still, magic...is the Altar, as Cathoris looks around the room.

Cathoris moves over the the altar, studying its magic before looking around at it.

Cathoris moves forward towards the Altar, and in the two concaves on either side of the defaced Anvil theres a slight white glow ...slight meaning its almost inactive. the white glow marking it as healing magic.

Straug wanders over and has a seat on one of the decrepit benches.

Angradd must be trying to teach me something...

He stares at his axe for awhile watching it slowly cool down from the blessing of fire.

I still wield his power, I can see and feel that much, but I feel diminished in combat somehow...maybe just bad luck? I did escape relatively unscathed, though. Maybe he is looking out for me in his own way and I'll understand in time.

Shaking off his melancholy, Straug stands with purpose and takes a deep breath. Seeing Cathoris at the altar he calls out to him.

'Careful lad, moving toward that thing to inspect it is what brought these abominations down on top of us,' He kicks at one of the darkmantle corpses on the ground. 'It was an altar to Torag once, but since defaced with runes to Droskar. This is an unholy place.'

After some time studying the altar but failing to understand anything more about it Straug shrugs and moves back into the hallway to the doors they passed on the way in.

'Anyone care if I bash this bastard door down?' He says in a normal voice, loud enough for those nearby but not loud enough for the others in the chapel to hear. 'No? Good!'

Looking for anything to drop from above Straug kicks at the door weapon readied.

Straug moves back out to the two rooms they passed coming in, and reaches out a hand to the one on his right, tries the handle and finds the door unlocked. Within the small chamber are several moth eaten fragments of cloaks, jackets, hats etc hanging on the wall. Its extremely dusty in here. In the corner underneath a particularly half eaten cloak is a pile of iron shavings and there growing from them is a single Ironbloom Mushroom. Not enough to bring back, but a start.

'Oi! Lads! A bit of good luck here!' Straug calls to the group, securing the mushroom in a small pouch.

Well lets see what this other door is hiding, maybe another closet?

Straug moves to the door to the N and gives it a good shove.


Straug moved back across the hall and tried the handle. it turned but the door didnt open. he pushed a little and it seemed to be stuck.

As Straug breaks the door down, Alex can't help but grimace.

You know, I have ways of doing that without as much noise.. But.. I suppose it was efficient... good job. He gives a smile sheathes his blade at this point. He places a hand on his shoulder.

Cathoris moves to join Straug and Alex. We’re going to need more mushrooms than that, he says with disappointment.

And while his friends were searching about, Thal stands watch, though his mind keeps drifting through the oddness of the past days. He notices he's started to think of this group as his friends. That's new. He thinks of Jarlene, though that's not new. He thinks of these weird powers. Is it something from the Feywild? he ponders. Seems like the powers never showed up until we went there, so...maybe?

Straug steps back from the stuck door and gives it a good shove without actually stepping in the room.

When Straug gave a shove to the door, it gave a tiny bit and then settled back in. Like something was bracing the door from the far side, not like it was locked. He frowned and asked for help.

Thallin looked around and listened intently...he could hear faint growling coming down the hall going North.

Cathoris gives the door a shove, but his shoulder doesn’t budge the door and more than Straug.

"Growling" Thal says quietly to his friends as he points to the hallway to the north.


Alex hit the door hard and it gave . With a loud crack, the door finally opens, shattering an ancient wooden chair propped against it on the other side. the room beyond is dark and smells deeply of dust and decay. On the floor of the chamber are the remains of a dwarf, a blacksmith if the tattered remains of this outfit are telling. In a skeletal hand is a broken glass vial and a note sits on the floor next to him. A Silver Warhammer is in his belt with the symbol of Droskar on the side.

Cathoris heads over to the body. He casts detect magic and examines the body. If nothing detects magic, he’ll grab them. Looking at the note and reading, he calls, “Straug?” He hands the Dwarven companion the items. “What do you think?”

Reading the note aloud, Straug kicks at the corpse with a scowl on his face.

'Good riddance, betrayer...', he mutters under his breath while staring at the corpse.

'Bastards like this killed my family, tried to kill me I guess. This death was too good for him. Someone pickup that warhammer I'm not touching it. We can put the money from selling or melting it to better use.'

Straug kneels down to examine the corpse a little closer, trying to see if he can tell how long its been there.

A quick review of my last 16 rolls: 4, 3, 3, 3, 8, 6, 2, 2, 5, 16, 13, 15, 2, 8, 1, 6. I think Straug is cursed. Thats a 6 AVG..WTF


Just means youre due a streak of good rolls. ;)

Straug examines the corpse and the bones are several years old. maybe even 7-10 It was a while ago he killed himself.

Cathoris attaches the warhammer to his waist. It might come in handy. There are werewolves about the area. Speaking of which, didn’t Thal hear some growling? He glances around the room quickly scanning for more mushrooms, before turning back to Thal.

Thal has been keeping his eyes fixed on the hallway to the north and simply points when Cathoris asks where the growling came from.

at the mention of the growling, Alex lets the others survey the new room. He goes back to lean against the wall, trying to keep quiet and out of sight, near the entrance from the direction Thallin directed. He quickly takes a peak around the edge to see if he notices anything.

Alexanders stands next to Thallin and peeks around the corner to look down the hall Thal pointed down and sees nothign different. just a hall that turns after about 10-15 feet. but he too hears the faint growling in the distance. Something else too. Alexander hears a noise like a rock bumping another rock, the opposite way

Its time to go. I don't like this, with all the noise they know where we are, and we haven't a clue who, what, their intentions or how many they are. I fear we may be surrounded if we remain here any longer.

I heard another sound from the there, not growling, but like rocks bumping each other, possibly knocked by feet.

Cathoris turns to Alex looking aghast, We can’t leave. We need more mushrooms for Falcons Hollow. We’ll just have to fight what’s down there.


The group looks at the hall. It goes south where there are to doors closed to the east and one open to the west. Down this hall Alex had heard a rock on rock 'knock'. The other hall north and turns east. There are two doors on the north wall. an open door going back to the courtyard and a dead end hall with a small statue in it. also an open area near the end, that leads to some rubble. This direction was wear the growling from...north and around the corner.....choose...

Cathoris looks through the open door.

Cathoris moves in front of Thallin and peers through the broken and shattered double doors to this room. One of the doors lies on the floor, the other half off the hinges. The room beyond is in a equal state of disrepair. What once was a library is now a shattered mess with one corner being totally collapsed and dominated by a wide pool of stagnant water. Thick fungus grows on most of the books that still remain intact on the shelves lining the walls.
