Welcome To Falcon's Hollow, a Small Town in Northern Andoran, that is the northern-most community on the fringes of Darkmoon Vale, a Wooded Valley nestled amid the Five Kings Mountains where The Lumber Consortium of Andoran is encroaching on The Fey in the Woodland and Local Werewolf Population. Where the remnants of Ancient Dwarven Civilizations Ruins are always sought after by Hardy Adventurers. Where Kobold Tribes seek to establish control of the highlands.

History of The Hollow:

Falcon's Hollow is the third in a line of logging towns to exist in Darkmoon Vale, each built to harvest the region's rich supplies of darkwood and other lumbers until the forests had depleted beyond a reasonable distance from the towns' relative safety. Falconridge was abandoned in the year 4467 AR, and the town of Northsap replaced it as the primary logging settlement in the area until the founding of Falcon's Hollow in 4573 AR.

Falcon's Hollow was founded by three families: the stern and silent Larkos, the brave Samkils, and the brutal Kreeds. These bone-hard folk weathered the Harpy-Hag Massacre of 4603 AR, finally ending the war by marrying a Larko son off to one of the hag Ulizmila's many daughters.

The period from 4631 AR to 4641 AR is known as the Misery in Falcon's Hollow's history. A entire generation of the three founding families was murdered by an attic whisperer. Balkri Kreed promptly dismembered the attic whisperer responsible but not before she lost her son Talin.

The last descendant of the Samkils, the young Jebrika, was killed during the Hobgoblin Strife of 4679 AR. Some people say that he was actually killed by Thalsin Kreed. In 4701 AR, the Falcon's Feud was ended with the mass burning of the Larko clan, most of whom had become "unnatural folk", changelings or worse, due to their ties to the hags of the Vale's deepest wilds. The eradication of the Larkos left Thuldrin Kreed and his son Jurin the only surviving descendants of the three founding families, and the only owners of the region's Lumber Consortium chopping rights.

Geography of The Hollow:

Falcon's Hollow is located a short distance south of Darkmoon Wood, and many of the inhabitants of the community work as loggers within the forest's confines in the employ of the Lumber Consortium; roads radiating from the town often lead to lumber camps operating on the edge of the treeline. The volcano Droskar's Crag dominates the skyline to the northwest, and its presence is felt throughout the region in the form of mudpots, geysers, and areas of past lava flow.

The River Foam acts as the southern boundary of Falcon's Hollow, as it passes southeast through the Darkmoon Plain. The settlement boasts the flow's only ferry, a fact that helps secure the Consortium's hold on the region as currently no bridges span the river to provide other means of easy passage.

Government of The Hollow:

Life in Falcon's Hollow revolves around the harvesting of darkwood, and as such the Lumber Consortium holds sway over the community; the Consortium's primary representative in the area, Thuldrin Kreed, maintains control of the region by denying goods and services through means other than those he allows. Firmly believing his hold on the town to be complete, Kreed has no qualms against exploiting his power and position for personal gain, often at the expense of the citizenry. However, dissent does exist. Both Magistrate Vamros Harg and Sheriff Deldrin Baleson would like to see Kreed removed from his position of authority.

Harg conducts official business from the Hollow Tribunal, an ironic name given the corrupt nature of the town's "justice". The magistrate issues merchant licenses, stamps mining and lumber claims, and rules on both criminal and civil cases.

Economy of The Hollow:

Falcon's Hollow is one of the oldest logging communities in Andoran; the town is run by the Lumber Consortium, and lumberjacks from the community always make an appearance at the annual Great Andoran Fair, in the capital city of Almas. Falcon's Hollow is also a popular location amongst adventurers, who set out in search of riches rumored to remain hidden in the region's many dwarven ruins.

Locations in The Hollow:

In a town like Falcon's Hollow there are few places of interest. Despite this, notable locations include the Hollow Tribunal, the Lumber Consortium Headquarters, and a small Temple of Iomedae.

The majority of the locations in Falcon's Hollow play some role in the operations of the Lumber Consortium, or at the very least are owned by the Consortium and its personnel. However, several of these sites hold particular historical significance to the area or are of importance to several members of the town's citizenry.

Exceptions Exist, and one such is The Darkwood Lodge, a Hunting Lodge on the Northern banks of the River Foam, within the Darkwood where they cater to the rich offering hunting of the mostely deadly variety. The Propritor is Estonian Lozarov

About Darkmoon Vale:

The River Foam is the primary waterway in the region and cuts a line through the center of the Vale. While Darkmoon Vale consists mostly of frontier lands rife with kobolds, fey, werewolves, hags and worgs, it nevertheless hosts several mentionable settlements. These include Falcon's Hollow, Olfden, Oregent, and Piren's Bluff. Despite the region's many dangers, Andoran remains interested in the Vale's natural resources, from darkwood to silver, and its access to the Isgeri border.

Campaign Darkmoon Vale Map Locations.:

1. Lumber Camp 1: Located on the fringe of Tghe Darkmoon Wood in the area heavily inhabited by Werewolves. The Lumber Camp is careful to not go out alone and its in a fortified encampment. 20 Lumberjacks make this home.

2. Lumber Camp 2: This is the Main Lumber Camp. There are regular brick and mortar buildings present and the encampment holds about 25 members of the consortium.

3. Lumber Camp 3: The smallest of the lumbercamps. It has tents only and houses about 15 lumberjacks. Recently the majority of the encampment became ill.

4. Proposed Lumber Camp 4: Deep in the Fey Inhabited part of the Darkmoon Woods, It has been scouted and there is talk of recrutiment of a Camp Foreman to start planning the camp.

13. Cold Falls: The river plummets a 50 feet from the higher vale to the lowlands below.

Woodlands in The Vale:

The two main woodlands in the Darkmoon Vale are the Darkmoon Wood, located between the River Foam and the Five Kings Range, and the northern reaches of the Arthfell Forest. At one point in time they were one continuous forest, but the lands between them have been clear cut over the preceding centuries. This logging continues to create great tensions between the human Andorans and the native fey protectors of the forest.

Darkmoon Wood:

Darkmoon Wood is located in Darkmoon Vale, at the base of Droskar's Crag, along the banks of the River Foam in northern Andoran, near the border of Isger and Druma. The dense forest, which stretches approximately forty-two miles wide and around fifteen miles tall, contains at its heart a small lake which runs into the nearby River Foam. Lumber camps can be found throughout the outer edges of the Vale, a reminder that the dangers of the woods are not enough to stop the expansion of the greedy Lumber Consortium. The nearest permanent settlement is the logging town of Falcon's Hollow, which rests about eight miles from the forest's southern edge.

Darkmoon Wood is home to a wide variety of plants and animals beyond its more dangerous intelligent residents, such as the fey of the forest or the kobolds of its subterranean reaches. In most cases this flora and fauna remains neutral, existing solely to survive. That said, if a visitor to the Wood crosses one or threatens its survival, the results are often unpleasant

Fauna

Most creatures in Darkmoon Vale are simply animals or vermin, with no darker agendas than mere survival. The following are some of the most common creatures of the region.

Firefoot Fennec: These red-footed foxes are common throughout northern Andoran and southern Isger. Their pelts are popular in Absalom and Molthune.

Dusk Spider: These foot-diameter spiders inhabit nearby Arthfell Forest in large communities that weave immense webs covering several acres. Dusk spider venom, when properly milked from a living creature, makes for a potent alcoholic additive.

Giant Mosquito: These pests are as large as small birds, but they tend (thankfully) to travel alone. Female giant mosquitoes (like their normal-sized cousins) drink the blood of warm-blooded animals.

Giant Moorsnake: These ophidian predators are active mostly at night. As constrictors, they prefer to sneak up on their victims while their potential meals are sleeping.

Mereswan: Unique to the Droskmere, mereswans are normal swans who can eat the mildly acidic popcarp within the lake and who only use a certain kind of volcanic rock for their gizzard stones. The combination of these two elements mean regurgitated gizzard stones of mereswans are smoothly polished semiprecious gems popular with dwarves.

Mountain Horses: Indigenous to the Aspodells, these long-haired, massive equines are popular with miners for their easy temperaments and flexible diets.

Popcarp: Mildly acidic flesh makes the popcarp of Droskmere an unpopular meal, except for the beautiful mereswans who live nearby. When threatened, a popcarp can explosively empty its gas bladder out its mouth to move quickly away, making a distinctive popping noise when it does so (hence its name).

Slurk: The slurk is the disgusting result of ill-advised dwarven efforts at breeding underground frogs. Kobolds prize the foul-smelling and slime-covered creatures as pets and mounts. Slurks live underground in damp caverns where the fungi and lichens they prefer to eat grow in abundance.

Zhen Worm: A smaller species of great worms roughly half the size of Qadira's famous alamein worms, the zhen worms of Andoran can survive in environs that would kill their larger cousins. Zhen worms thrive in warm, moist soil, and many of them migrate frequently to the areas around Darkmoon Vale's geysers, mud pots, and other geothermal features.

Flora

Many varieties of unique and rare plants live in Darkmoon Vale. The following are those of greatest interest to residents and visitors of the region.

Appleleaf: These low-growing plants have leaves that grow in groups of four and taste of slightly bitter apples when eaten. Appleleaf grows all over within the forests of Darkmoon Vale and southern Isger.

Blackscour: A black-headed fungus that tastes hard, bitter, and sharp. It grows in the water and causes blackscour taint if any part of it, including its spores, are consumed (usually by drinking contaminated water). Blackscour is not native to the region and was only recently introduced to Darkmoon Vale.

Downberries: Although the plants that bear them contain massive thorns, downberries remain a popular dessert treat when in season in late summer and early autumn. Downberries grow best in arid climates and grow all over the eastern side of the Aspodell Mountains and Wolfrun Hills.

Elderwood Moss: This semi-magical moss only grows on the oldest tree in a forest. As such, two known patches exist near Darkmoon Vale: one upon the forest elder in Darkmoon Wood and another on the Green Patriarch within Arthfell Forest. Elderwood moss, when prepared correctly, acts as a strong decongestant. Some people claim that, when prepared incorrectly, elderwood moss causes premature aging.

Glowmold: As its name implies, glowmold glows. Rather brightly, in fact. Glowmold grows very slowly on the undersides of igneous rocks, and the largest concentrations of this useful mold live for centuries under stones too large to easily flip or roll over. Smaller finds provide as much light as a torch. Regardless of the size of the moss colony, picked glowmold glows for 3 days once picked.

Ironbloom Mushrooms: These stunted fungi only grow in dark places thick with metal. The diets of Five Kings Mountains dwarves consist heavily of ironbloom mushrooms, mainly because the plants grow naturally in and around dwarven forges. Protein-rich ironbloom mushrooms bear a slight salty taste but otherwise contain no flavor of their own, making them excellent additions to many dwarven meals.

Pesh: This strong stimulant also has mild hallucinogenic properties, which together make its users easily agitated and randomly aggressive (and easily identified, with bloodshot eyes and frequent nosebleeds). Originally imported from Vudra, pesh cacti grow in warm, moist areas, like those around the vale's mudpots and hot springs. Wild pesh cacti threaten to choke out native species near the geothermal vents. Outside of Katapesh, Darkmoon Vale is the largest supplier of pesh to nations of Avistan.

Paueliel Trees: These silver-barked softwoods grow to immense heights, but never spread to more than a few feet in diameter. Lumberjacks claim paueliel trees are somehow connected with elves and give copses of them wide berth when logging.

Rat's tail: When pickled, this exceedingly salty root acts as a mild analgesic. Used raw, rat's tail gives a strong salty flavor to whatever dish it is added to. Many of the poor residents in Darkmoon Vale use rat's tail to flavor their food, as salt remains out of the price range of most.

History of Darkmoon Vale:

The history of the region goes back before Taldan and Chelaxian humans first settled in the region in the mid-42nd century AR. In 3980 AR, it was rocked by the eruption of Droskar's Crag, a volcano just north of the Vale. The event, known as the Rending, destroyed the nearby dwarven settlement of Jernashall and flooded the Foam and Andoshen Rivers with millions of gallons of snowmelt. The resulting flooding caused widespread destruction along the banks of the rivers, particularly in the capital of Almas hundreds of miles away.

The indigenous Kellid inhabitants of Darkmoon Vale were first conquered in 4113 AR by Karas "the Falcon" Novotnian

Droskar's Crag:

Droskar's Crag is a dormant volcano located in northern Andoran, in the region known as Darkmoon Vale. The mountain consists of two primary peaks, known as the Hammer and the Anvil, the taller of which rises to an altitude of 28,822 feet. The volcano last erupted in 3980 AR in a massive explosion known as the Rending, which transformed the entire region. At the time, Droskar's Crag was known as Torag's Crag, though its name was changed to reflect the more hostile nature of the volcano since that time. To date, it has shown no major activity, though the peaks constantly spew ash and smoke into the air as a constant reminder of the threat that exists beneath the snow-capped mountain
