Venture-Captain Bjersig Torrsen calls the PCs north to the town of Iceferry in the frigid Land of the Linnorm Kings. There, Bjersig informs the Pathfinders that he has a request from the family of a storied and long-dead Linnorm King. The family's patriarch, the warrior Hlavard Grenskuldr, appears to have perished in a shipwreck while wearing the family's heirloom, the gorget of the Linnorm King Grehunde the Sunchaser. For one hundred generations the family has passed this heirloom down from parent to child, until Hlavard sought to wear it on a journey to Valenhall as Grehunde herself had intended to do before perishing with the task unfinished. Unwilling to leave the relic to rust away in a watery grave, Hlavard's family has requested the Pathfinder Society's assistance in locating the shipwreck and retrieving the family treasure.

"Ahem, we need to be very vigilant if we want to go back down. I read in a book once that sea serpents have been known to reoccupy the lairs of dead sea serpents. My bet is there is one waiting down there. If there really is one down there we should get it to surface so we can all attack it all at once. Who wants to play bait? Not IT!"

Korvo is somewhat taken aback by Maximilian’s revelation – and if there was a further reason not to go under water, that was it. But they were here to fulfil a task after all, and offers her own opinion on the subject.

“Logically, one small and quick person should go down to flush it out and get back to the surface as soon as possible. Or maybe, if we made a lot of noise, the vibration might encourage the sea serpent to come and investigate what’s invading their lair. Most animals are territorial after all? But our best bet to defeat it is out here, where we have the advantage. Under water? That’s their domain.”

Hearing Maximillian as he begins to step down the stairs towards the water Mar-kaw freezes, slowly turning his head with a forced smile and an uncomfortable chuckle...

Lucky looks back towards the group. "I doubt there will be another below deck when there is 3... 4 tasty snacks just sitting out in the open above deck. Besides why would it want to be in the ship of all places, where its movement is much more... limited? If I see anything moving I'll try and bring it up with me" Lucky smiles then looks back to the water. He pauses for a second to mentally prepare himself. He grips his shield tightly, obviously worried about what he might find below deck, as he wades into the water to try and again at freeing the gorget.

It takes one "round" of breath to get to the location of the gorget attached to the dead man lodged inside the sea beast's locked jaws. It will likewise take one "round" to get back.

Mar-Kaw thinks he can obtain some counter-leverage while Lucky pries at the front side with the crowbar.

Lucky can make the Primary check to Force Open.
Mar-Kaw can make an Aid check using Thievery.

With a little leverage and teamwork, slowly the beast's jaw is pried open. The salt-preserved body of Hlavard Grenskuldr slumps in slow motion to the sea floor, the Gorget shimmering around his neck!

Please each roll an Athletics check to Swim (which determines "how fast" not "if" you make it back).
Then based on that check, without spoilers, describe to the other players what it looks like when you return to the surface of the ship!

Lucky grabs the lifeless remains (while in hims mind remembering how long he must have been down here so his corpse is probably not in the greatest conditions) and attempts to power twords air, frantically pushing his feet against the floor.

Mar-kaw grabs the body under one shoulder as Lucky grabs the other. He works with Lucky to bring the body up the stairs. The going is slow, but he knows the faster they get the body above deck the sooner he can get back on the other boat into the crows nest and far away from water all the way back to the mainland.

Maximilian watches as the two go down then starts what looks like a very strange dance trying to shake the water off. He actually succeeds with tapping out some sort of rhythm with his jumping and shaking.

Finally deciding he was dry enough, or probably getting tired of the jumping, Maximilian straightens up and approaches Ruby. His "dance" actually a cover for taking a look around in case someone was watching them.

Just as Mar-Kaw followed by Lucky are rushing up the stairs carrying the hefty body of Hlavard Grenskuldr, two young sea serpents crawl over the starboard side and onto the deck, their spines flashing in a territorial motion meant to threaten their prey or predator!

At the sound of something crawling on the ship's side Maximilian turns just in time to see the sea serpent's head clear the side. He looks at it's skin and considers the groups' weapons. The (Green) Serpent swirls some water in it's gills, then opening it's horrible mouth, blasts a gout of seaweed-filled water at Korvo, the water entering her nostrils and mouth, it's salty taste sickening. She begins to feel strangely woozy. Then it flares it's spines, and sprints across the deck, slashing Korvo, Ruby, and Max in it's dashing wake!

Sea Serpent Strike! (Round Two)

Just as Max and Ruby roll with the impact of the first Serpent's spines (3 damage each), the second ("Blue") one reels to act!

A loud Thud is heard below deck, as the body of mighty Hlavard Grenskuldr hits the stairs and topples back below the water - with the Gorget around his neck! - as first Lucky then Mar-Kaw emerge from the stairs with amazing haste, both engaging the first ("Green") Serpent they find with longsword and fire! Lucky misses while Mar-Kaw connects (8 fire), sizzling the salty skin of the creature, which whirls to menace him!

Considering Max the bigger threat, the ("Blue") Sea Beast draws water and mucous from it's glands and pummels the rogue with a similar blast Korvo endured - spraying salty sea up into his open nostrils and mouth - then mimicking it's hunting partner, does a mad dash this time around Max, Ruby, and Lucky, spines flared, perhaps headed towards the sound of the Thud!

Sea Serpent Strike! (Round Three)

As they did during the Storm, the party once again operate as a unit; between Korvo's and Max's deadly cuts, Lucky's magical sword, Mar-Kaw's eldritch fire, and Ruby's hungry paws, the second Sea Serpent is felled.

And just as everyone is about to celebrate, Mar-Kar and Lucky look at eachother, back at the stairwell, then back as eachother, and suddenly remember what they forgot!
