Zharis cuts off the lashunta's escape, and inflicts another wound for good measure. Shujae opens fire, but has trouble controlling the powerful plasma bolter.

Because the foe doesn't have a melee weapon out and thus doesn't threaten any squares, I think you'll be able to get to the door without the need for a check. Shujae's attack missed.

Cabizo tries the same eye again. Perhaps it was the switching back and forth that had caused him to get dizzy and miss. He gives the trigger an extra squeeze as well, though this causes the barrel of the weapon to sway wildly.

Xylian exhales slowly, lowering his pistol. ”I do believe we are getting better at this.” He states. He looks around at the room, spying the bookshelves. ”I hope none of the manuscripts here were damaged in the fighting. Nothing worse than destroying a book.” His laser pistol chirps as he climbs out of the tunnel, alerting him to its low charge, and he looks over the fallen enemy for a replacement battery.

Zharis takes a look at the books to see if there is anything that looks interesting or stands out as valuable. Then she helps Xylian search the bodies and take anything that they can use.

A scan of the bookshelves shows the works cover Asanatown’s discovery and settlement, as well as lashunta and Burning Archipelago history. The books aren't necessarily rare or valuable, but could make for interesting reading nonetheless.

Shujae says "Vilo is pretty beat up, and I wouldn't mind a chance to catch my breath. Think we could hide out in the tunnels for a few minutes and rest? Or would that put the hostages in more danger?"

Not sure, but we don't want anyone dying, so let's do it. Do you want me to treat your wounds? I have a little bit of medical training and we have a basic medkit here... although I am sure Cabizo is better at that sort of thing.

Zharis takes a few interesting history books and puts them in her pack along with the other useful stuff on the bodies.

"If the usurpers had intended to kill the council, I expect they would already be dead." Xylian says, fishing out a battery from someone's pack and reloading the laser pistol. The small laser pistol has quickly proven to be the most effective weapon he had used thus far. "Us dying, at any rate, would not help the council, either. We can wait." He takes the comm unit from spellcaster and attaches it to his arm in case the hostiles attempt to communicate with their fallen comrades.

Didn't think about the party loot. We're fine then =)

Cabizo examines the strange yellow liquid, squirting a little on the floor and seeing how nice it was to draw with. ”Oh, I’m happy to help!” he chimes in distractedly, ”but I’m afraid I don’t have much in the way of magic left.”


Retreating to the tunnels and closing the secret hatch behind you, you're able to take a quick rest in complete safety. Although Cabizo's not quite sure what the yellow serum does, Vilo examines it carefully and proclaims it to be a mk 1 serum of healing. When everyone has had a chance to catch their breath, Vilo says "Well, where to now?"

"I would prefer to keep to the high ground as much as possible." Xylian says, gesturing to the stairs in the library. "No advantage is too small to ignore." He mounts the stairs and, when everyone is ready, opens the door.


Xylian opens the door to reveal a hallway. There's a regular-looking double door to the east, but the double door to the south has heavy steel bars welded in place and anchored to the frame. To the north, a tapestry stretching the length of the wall shows a lashunta with a halo of golden light standing at a podium and addressing a room full of other lashuntas, over a line of text.

If you enter the room, please attempt a DC 16 Will save.

Fail save:
A halo of golden light appears over your head.

I don't think anyone reads lashunta, but let me know if you do.

... She stands for a minute wondering if this is a bad thing, but if nothing else happens, she first checks behind the tapestry, and then proceeds to the eastern door (but doesn't open it until everyone else catches up).

Xylian also gains a halo as he enters the room. "...Huh." He tries to recall if he has heard anything about this clearly ritualistic magic.

I got two 20's in a row in another game so I guess this was inevitable.


A quick look behind the tapestry doesn't reveal anything hidden, and the glowing halos don't seem harmful. Once everyone catches up, Zharis opens the eastern door.

This large, roughly circular room has walls inset with mirrors at regular intervals, reflecting the light of a miniature golden sun that almost fills the dome forty feet overhead.

The door you've opened leads on to a five-foot-tall metal stage wrought to look like dense silver leaves and branches, and it dominates the western side of the room, accessible from the main floor by twin staircases. A podium stands on the stage, and ornate carpets and cushions radiate in neat lines across the floor below it.

A double door to the south has been welded shut with thick steel bars. Metal chairs have been piled up into a jumbled barrier at the eastern edge of the room, and crouched behind them is Zeylan Trinipol, the leader of the Sunrise Collective whose hologram you saw earlier in the broadcast! The face of the rebellion holds a plasma rifle in his hands and looks ready for a firefight.

Along the northern wall are six prisoners manacled together--the Asanatown councillors who have been taken hostage.

A millisecond after Zharis opens the door, she realises someone is hiding around the corner behind it! The horned, red-skinned figure begins to conjure fire in her hands!

Vilo and Zharis (the two in front) have a chance to act in the surprise round if they make a Perception check vs the ifrit hiding behind the door. Ooh, low rolls, and both are surprised.

"Witness the full power of the sun's wrath!" A cone of flame emerges from the figure's palms!

The front four PCs (all but Cabizo and Staim) need to roll a DC 11 Reflex save vs a spell-like effect fire effect. If you fail the save, you take 5 F damage, but if you make the safe you take 2 F.

Both Vilo and Shujae made the save.

Cabizo can't stop looking at his halo with a smile on his face. "It's so pretty!" he says softly, trying to touch it gently with one hand. "Don't you think so, Zharis?"

When the pahtra doesn't respond right away, the skittermander frowns. "Zharis, are you alri-" A sudden blast of fire interrupts his question, and Cabizo's eyes grow wide. "Oh no!" Rushing into the room, he sees a strange man, another strange man, and some bound and gagged strange people that he can only assume are the abducted councilmembers. As he spots remnants of flames around the man's hands, he blurts, "You're on fire! Stop, drop, and roll!"

Casting command on Blue (Will 15 negates). If they fail, they will need to fall prone and remain prone for 1 round.


The horned figure smirks at Cabizo. "I am fire, you six-armed freak!"

The ifrit made the Will save.

The leader of the Sunrise Collective presses a button on his belt, and suddenly it looks like there's 5 of him dancing around the same spot! Simultaneously, the room's other defender ignites a flaming doshko, takes a step towards Cabizo, and lets loose!

Zeylan made 4 holographic clones as a standard action. The ifrit is doing a guarded step and an attack on Cabizo, using his 1/day fire affinity special ability to roll the attack twice and take the better. He doesn't want to get mind-whammied! In character, you all notice that a peculiar glow around the ifrit is intensifying.

Ouch, that's a crit on Cabizo by a weapon with the Wound critical hit property. Cabizo, you take 16 F and need to make a DC 15 Fort save or lose a leg!

Lost leg:
As far as I can tell, the only penalty for having a leg severed is a -10 to speed. Weird!

Xylian retreats from the fiery explosion, snapping of an inaccurate shot at one of the hostile. Alas, like most of the day thus far, one or more of his allies is in the way and he has no hope of hitting anything hostile to the group.

It is pretty... says Zharis somewhat belatedly, glancing up, and unfortunately distracted enough that she misses her attack.

Then, at the same moment she is talking to him, Cabizo's leg is almost shot off.

Oh no! Cabizo!! Vilo, get up here, fast. We've got problems.


Vilo's skin begins to glow as she attunes herself to cosmic energies. Anxious to get into the fight, she leaps over Cabizo and lands right next to the ifrit. She then swings a glowing fist but can't connect.

Shujae and Staim open fire as well, though it's difficult to get a clear shot.

Vilo is trying to Tumble to avoid an AoO from the ifrit. She makes it! Her first attempt at the attack roll misses, but she's going to use her 1/day Damai racial trait Scrappy to reroll the attack since the stakes are high. Still a miss.

Shujae and Staim attack, but low rolls mean they don't even come close.

Angry because Cabizo has been hurt, Zharis takes a guarded step so that more people can shoot at her opponent, and then lays into him with her tactical dueling sword.

Unfortunately her anger is overwhelming and she is unable to focus. The attack is wild and not only doesn't land... she has trouble maintaining a hold on her weapon. She stops and takes a moment to breathe, eager to try again, but trying to get herself under control so that she can take this guy down and he can't hurt anyone else.

Cabizo looks up at the man, then down at the large gash in his leg that drops blood, then back up at the mean man. "Why would you do that?" he asks, tears welling in his eyes as he stumbles back into the hallway. "I was just trying to help!"

My apologies, but I'm having a very strong reaction to the idea of Cabizo having a limb chopped off. Would you be okay with flavoring the Wound critical effect as merely damaging the limb so badly as to require medical attention before it can be used normally again?

Zharis tries to regain her focus, while Cabizo, badly hurt, limps back into the hallway.

Cabizo:
Of course, I understand. We can describe it as a deep gash. Mechanically, you can pay 100 credits later on for a prosthetic to get back to full speed, but we can flavor that as an expensive surgery that makes that leg unsuitable for other augmentations.


Behind his barricade of chairs, Zeylan shouts "I knew foreigners were causing the psychic assault on Asanatown! I won't let you enslave lashunta-kind!" He tries to steady an unwieldy-looking plasma rifle before firing at Vilo.

The ifrit that so badly wounded Cabizo smiles smugly. She speaks quietly enough so that only Vilo and Zharis can hear her. "Don't mind him, he's a bit paranoid. But he pays well, and was smart enough to hire the Brass Dragons. And they were smart enough to send me." With that, she unleashes a spinning attack with her doshko, managing to burn both foes at once.

Seeing the ifrit's skin glowing just like hers, Vilo shouts "Be careful--she's about to go supernova!"

Zeylan shoots at Vilo and hits, doing 5 E&F. The ifrit is doing a full attack, and unfortunately hits with each. Vilo takes 11 F while Zharis takes just 5 F.

Vilo puts everything she can into taking down this ifrit before she can go supernova, swinging furiously and landing one powerful blow. Shujae and Staim continue their fusillade of attacks, but their shots go wide.

Vilo does a full attack, benefiting from flanking. Shujae attacks, and gives Staim her move action to it can attack as well.

Vilo hits once for maximum (11) damage. Another hit like that, and this ifrit would be taken care of.

Xylian manages to make a more accurate shot with fewer allies in the way, but he moves closer to the “supernova” to do so.

Xylian blasts the glowing foe right in the chest, but she seems to shrug most of it off!

Vilo shouts to Zharis "It's hard to explain . . . she draws on the sun's energy and is going to explode--like a grenade!" The ifrit smirks at Vilo's attempt to explain the mystical concepts of the solarian tradition.

The attack hit, but there's obviously some fire resistance at play and most of the damage didn't go through.

Zharis is now worried that the ifrit is going to blow up, so she jumps off the stage/raised area, and moves north towards the captives, drawing her tactical semi-auto pistol as she moves.

Not sure if there is a railing. If not, can you do a guarded step back, knowing you will fall a few feet... I mean, she's a cat, she isn't worried about getting hurt with something like that.

If there IS a railing, is that acrobatics? She isn't trying to tumble through the enemy space, but just jump over the railing without getting an AOO.

Zharis hops of the stage, lands gracefully, and makes it over to the manacled Asanatown councillors. They look to be well-treated.

Nope, there's no railing, and the stage is only 5' up, so there's no difficulty in getting there.

Still bawling, Cabizo continues to limp away from the mean people.

"They sent you, didn't they?! The monsters at the heart of the sun, just waiting to invade!" Spittle appears at the edges of Zeylan's lips, giving him an appearance completely different than the slickly-produced propaganda holos. As Zharis gets closer to the councillors, Zeylan opens fire again with his sniper rifle and sends a ball of super-heated plasma right into Zharis' leg.

Meanwhile, the ifrit nods respectfully to Vilo. "I've never dueled another sun-channeller before. Let's see if you can take what I dish out." With that, a shockwave of pure heat bursts from her body! Vilo tries to dive for cover, but can't quite make it and is blasted into unconsciousness!

Zharis, you get hit and take 6 E&F. Vilo failed the Reflex save (by 1, of all the awful luck) and took 13 F. She's down.

Cabizo, please don't forget to update your tagline with the damage taken and speed reduction.
