Dungeon Master S - 2e |
The Mad Monkey's option was the Gymnastics one, not the stealing one. You have to choose at the start.
Both Chivivit and Sir Holton close in on the master. The cultist quick orders his minion to sacrifice herself for him! She jumps in front of the spell and it takes her down! Sir Holton's hit lands as intended!
Round 9:
Kicsit: Miss
Cultists: ATK!
Chivivit: Kill
Sir Holton: Hit
Cultist Leader: ATK!
Ferrun: Go
Heyou!: Go
Mshwe: 59 (Bless to 15', Persistent Fire 3, Slowed 1), Mad Monkeys
For 1 round, the creature must succeed at a DC 5 flat check whenever it attempts a manipulate action. If it fails this check, the creature loses that action.
Ferrun Munkustrap |
"Your vile ways will not be tolerated! Surrender now!". Ferrun declares as he claws away at the leader!
Claws (1st Attack): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24
Slashing Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 6) + 4 = 13
Claws (2nd Attack): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Slashing Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 5) + 4 = 13
Finally, Ferrun raises his shield.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
The leader clearly shows no signs of surrendering, even if his confidence is cracking. Ferrun's claws cut deep! It's clear that a another single swipe will end him!
Round 9:
Kicsit: Miss
Cultists: ATK!
Chivivit: Kill
Sir Holton: Hit
Cultist Leader: ATK!
Ferrun: Hits
Heyou!: Go
Mshwe: 85 (Bless to 15', Persistent Fire 3, Slowed 1), Mad Monkeys
For 1 round, the creature must succeed at a DC 5 flat check whenever it attempts a manipulate action. If it fails this check, the creature loses that action.
Heyou! Bumblebrasher |
Heyou!, as a typical goblin, continues to exhaust his supply of bombs.
He lobs a fire bombs at the cultist in the monkey swarm.
bomb!: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16 2 splash unless a critical miss
He then moves, and throws his returning dagger at the leader.
Dagger: 1d20 + 13 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 13 - 4 = 29
piercing: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 6 with the crit!
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Heyou!'s dagger is what does it! After the longest battle of your lives, the final foe collapses in a growing pool of blood.
Everyone is breathing heavily, and it's a little while before you can begin to do the work that comes after battle.
And a Hero Point to Heyou! for finally ending this melee! For your efforts, the party earns 140 XP.
Heyou! Bumblebrasher |
Heyou! starts the work of bandaging everyone up. Assurance, Ward Medic, Continual Recovery. Heals 2d8+10 to 4 folks at a time, with no down time
He then quickly moves to loot the bodies, and kick the dino a couple of times.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
With the party patched up, they begin searching... and kicking.
The leader's spear is obviously magical, but other than that the only item of note on his body is an ornate copper key.
The others have next to nothing on them. Heyou! does catch the glimmer of metal in the bottom of the pool on the western wall. IT's hard to make out, and looks like it's about 8 feet down.
Chivivit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 (T, LLV)
Ferrun: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 (T, LLV)
Kicsit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 (T, DV)
Pazúr: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20 (+2 if INIT, T, LLV)
Heyou!: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 (T, DV)
Heyou! Bumblebrasher |
”Hay! What’s that?” points out Heyou!
Ferrun Munkustrap |
"It looks like something shiny in the water. I am not one who likes swimming, but for you, Heyou!, I will make an exception."
Ferrun leaves his backpack and then dips his toe in the water to see if it is warm enough. Eventually, he gets into the water and swims down to the shiny metal.
Athletics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Sir Holton Carver |
"My congratulations to all on the thrilling battle. We should all be very proud of this day's victory."
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Ferrun swims down and comes up with a golden tube that's easily worth 350 Gold by itself. Inside is some kind of magic dust...
Heyou! Bumblebrasher |
”Very cool! What is it?”
Heyou! tries to figure out what the magic dust is, but if it is magic, he fails, and then hands it off to Kicsit and Chivivit.
Heyou! Bumblebrasher |
"Spice? Sounds good... oh, wait...."
Heyou! goes from excitement to disappointment in a flash of an eye.
Sir Holton Carver |
”If we have collected all of the treasure, perhaps we should check out the door and keep moving?”
Heyou! Bumblebrasher |
"Ok... but me no got many bombs left."
Heyou! Bumblebrasher |
Heyou! sneaks up to the door and listens carefully. He tries to tell if there is anyone on the other side of the door, and if they heard the fight.
He checks out the spear, asking for any of the magical types to identify it. He also pockets the key, after carefully tasting it.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Heyou! moves to check the door, but the party begs him off. Resources are low, and clearly this building is occupied. There are plenty of unoccupied buildings close by, and hiding should be easy, so the decision is made to rest.
Feel free to safely rest. Post actions upon return.
Heyou! Bumblebrasher |
The party slinks away to recover, with Heyou! constantly checking his pouch of bombs, mumbling about how few there still left. "So few bombs left. Me used so many!"
Heyou! spends the evening figuring out what he's going to be making, humming quietly to himself. The smells that come out of his little kettle are obnoxious, but by morning he has a whole set of elixirs and bombs ready to go.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
In the morning, the party prepares to return. It weighs heavily on their minds that whoever else in there will see the dead, and be ready.
A set of footfalls, unexpected and close, snaps them out of their reverie.
Rather than a clunky and drawn out reintroduction, I think what works best is that you decided to rejoin, and have been trying to catch up. Their day in the temple was a short one, which gave you the chance to catch up and make contact.
Pazúr Sixclaw |
As the party recovers from their seemingly endless battle with the cultists, the sound of quiet footfalls approaches. Their erstwhile companion, Pazúr, sticks his head cautiously around a corner. Seeing his friends, he bounds forward and calls out, ”Hey there! Did I miss anything?”
Noting that Ferrun is still somewhat damp and the room smells strongly of Heyou!’s bubbling concoctions, he answers his own question, ”I guess I must have. Sorry about that, I found a particularly compelling patch of sunlight, fell asleep, and when I woke, you were all gone. Took a bit of doing to find you, but here I am. What’s going on?”
Ferrun Munkustrap |
"So I guess you do have nine lives!". Ferrun remarks with the smile he gives a long awaited friend.
He then clasps the catfolk in an arm grasp and then embraces him.
"It took you long enough to find us!"
Heyou! Bumblebrasher |
”Yeah, was not as much fun with no other cat person but Grumpy Kitty there. Glad you come back to Heyou! You need healing? ”
Pazúr Sixclaw |
Pazúr breaks into a sharp-toothed grin as his companions welcome him back, though he hesitates slightly when Ferrun gives him a damp, hearty hug. Overcoming his natural feline resistance to getting wet, he returns the embrace and replies, ”If I get to spend one of my nine lives curled up in that patch of sunshine, I won’t complain for a second!” Turning to Heyou!, he adds, ”Nope, no healing needed. I had an easy time of it, though it seems you all might not have. Sorry to miss the fun! How goes the mission?”
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
The party reviews why they're here.... our next step is to journey to Holy Xatramba to recover the stolen Pillar-Watcher. Abayone wastes no time in arranging for mundane provisions, a large wagon, and oxen to pull it. A sturdy wagon will be necessary to bring the statue back to Kibwe once you recover it, and she doesn’t count on you stumbling across the wagon Tomil used to take Cursebreaker there. So far the trip has been boring with two major exceptions, the wisps and the drakes.
Where to on the map?
Pazúr Sixclaw |
"Okay, thanks for the update on where things stand," Pazúr says, "it's been a long mission and a bit tough to keep track of everything. Speaking of which, I passed a couple of little doors in the hallway back there, did you all take a look at them? Or did you all do something crazy, like following a goblin straight toward the biggest doors you could find?"
With a quick smile at Heyou!, he continues, "If you didn't check out those doors, I say we try that. I doubt our Pillar-Watcher is in a little side room, but there might be some surprise lurking behind us, and I'd rather know about it."
I suggest we take a look at the doors off the hallway to the east, starting with the north door, which is slightly ajar.
Ferrun Munkustrap |
”Lead us onward, Pazur. I’m glad to have someone else give us some advice. I think we have been guided by the shiniest things we could find. It would be nice to find this Pillar Watcher and return it.”
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Grrrr lost post. I'm largely back at it now. (Summer vacation is over for me.)
Now whole again and ready for a fight, the party sneaks back into the building. As they pass the scene of their epic battle from the day before, they see something disturbing.... the bodies are gone. That means whoever else is here knows that violence is coming...
Now standing at an open door the party...
Pazúr Sixclaw |
Rapier in hand, Pazúr nods at his companions and steps through the open door, after giving it a quick study for any surprises. He moves as quietly as possible on his large paws.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Sir Holton Carver |
"Excellent. Let us begin..." Holton lets off a low growl as the door opens, hammer and shield in hand.
Heyou! Bumblebrasher |
”Me ready” calls out Heyou! as he pulls out a fire bomb. ”Me got the fire!”
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Confident that there's nothing in there, the party marches in after Heyou!'s reminder about having the fire.
Unfortunately, you're all very wrong. A pair of bipedal dinosaurs lie in wait, led by another one of those really tough dino-humanoids.
Assumption of Ferrun Scouting
Hostiles: Dino: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Hostiles: Dino-Humanoid: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (3) + 18 = 21
Ferrun: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 1 = 17
Pazúr: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 2 + 1 = 29
Heyou!: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 1 = 11
Holton: 1d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 13 + 1 = 28
Chivivit: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 = 28
Kicsit: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 1 = 24
Round 1:
Pazúr: Go
Chivivit: Go
Sir Holton: Go
Kicsit: Go
Hostiles: TBD
Ferrun: TBD
Heyou!: TBD
Pazúr Sixclaw |
”Oh, how convenient, they’re all lined up for me,” Pazúr quips as he sees the smaller dinosaurs in the corner. He dashes around to the far side of them, slashes his blade low in a feint, then drives the point forward at neck level, his arm extended long!
Move (going wide to avoid AoO, have 30’ speed), Feint, Strike with Impaling Finisher. If I succeed at Deception and thus have Panache, attack hits both targets.
Deception to Feint: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28 If this doesn’t succeed, subtract 3d6 Precise Damage below
Rapier attack, Finisher: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28
Rapier damage, Precise Strike: 2d6 + 1 + 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 1 + (3, 1, 3) = 14
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Like he never left, Pazur races around, tricking the dinosaur with his path. He lands into a solid stance and stabs the dinosaur with a powerful blow.
Round 1:
Pazúr: Crit!
Chivivit: Go
Sir Holton: Go

Stride, strike, raise shield.
Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 242d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 4) + 5 = 16
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Sir Holton and Chivivit both turn to focus on the bigger threat. They both miss by the thinnest of margins literally!
Round 1:
Pazúr: Crit!
Chivivit: Miss
Sir Holton: Miss
Kicsit: Go
Hostiles: TBD
Ferrun: TBD
Heyou!: TBD
White: 28
Black: 28
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Kicsit takes the room, but the dino-man was ready for such a move!
AoO with Longspear: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (19) + 18 = 37 for DMG: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Still, it doesn't stop him as he slams some debris into the thing's face!
He doesn't stay focused on him though, opting to bring his sharp teeth to bear on Sir Holton:
Bite 1: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (20) + 18 = 38 for DOUBLE: 2d10 + 8 ⇒ (9, 7) + 8 = 24 I'm guessing you'll want to reduce some of that 48 damage with your shield, just post the results.
Bite 2: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25 MISS That might change though
Bite 3: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21 MISS
The thing ravages Sir Holton!
Meanwhile the two dinosaurs split their attention:
Black v. Kicsit: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 MISS
Black v. Kicsit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 for DOUBLE: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 5) + 3 = 12
White v. Pazúr: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 MISS
White v. Pazúr: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 MISS
White v. Pazúr: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14 MISS
Round 1:
Pazúr: Crit!
Chivivit: Miss
Sir Holton (??/78): Miss Reaction?
Kicsit (14/53): Hit
Hostiles: ATK
Ferrun: Go
Heyou!: Go
Red: 11
White: 28
Black: 28
Pazúr Sixclaw |
The white dinosaur’s bite is so clumsy, Pazúr can’t help but laugh out loud as he takes advantage of the slip, dodging aside and stabbing at the creature with lightning speed!
Use Opportune Riposte reaction on White, since it critically failed its first attack roll.
Rapier attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23
Rapier damage: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 3) + 1 = 9
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Sixclaw makes the dinosaur pay with an opportune riposte!

2nd Claws: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17

"Two cats playing with one mouse is always a fun game!"
Heyou! Bumblebrasher |
Heyou! steps in "Oh, you ok, Kicsit? Dat look like it hurt!"
Being the obviously "good goblin" that he is, Heyou! risks getting attacked to lay on a layer of his homemade 'only a little night soil, I promise' poultices onto Kicsit's wounds.
crafting for medicine, DC20: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27

He then throws his trademark fire bomb at the red dino!
