__________________________________________________
An enormous worm, covered with dark purple plates of chitinous armor, bursts through the floor. (This is, essentially a 5-foot-step for it. The ground shaking was it moving just below the surface.) Its giant, tooth-filled mouth is the size of an ox. It attacks two of the party's bruisers:
Bite on Theodric: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (7) + 25 = 32, Damage if hits: 4d8 + 12 ⇒ (7, 5, 7, 5) + 12 = 36

Obo floats forward and casts delay poison on the Professor. This should help for the next 12 hours. I can cast it again as needed and then switch up to provide an extended one until we can cleanse the poison from your system.
Personally I have no issue with you rolling reactive stuff for us like saves but if doing so I would prefer we not be offered extra chances to roll our own if we fail. Failure is part of the game and handing out two chances to roll will rather trivialise things.

Nobody is trivializing anything. Prof has a table reroll. He's entitled to use it.

![]() |

Apologies, I though you were suggesting that he could make his own roll as yours was poor rather than using a reroll. No offence was intended.

With the immediate threat gone, you are free to explore the area and discover the tunnel that Habblegash told you about. Altogether, you find:
- one bag of holding (type III)
- 5 days worth of rations
- three potions of cure moderate wounds
- a bag of dust of disappearance
- two elixirs of tumbling
- a newly crafted flask of dust of weighty burdens
______________________________
On your way back to the next level of the mine, you realize that there's a set of mine cart tracks that have been blocked off.
AREA A4
The is the other side of the area you approached from A3: This short tunnel appears to have suffered a cave-in to the north, while the unfinished efforts of digging the tunnel can be seen in the various mining tools near the southern wall.
Hand-waving since this is a CR8 encounter.
You find three undead miners who were trapped in the collapse here and put them to rest.
You also discover that, apparently, some of the miners were smuggling. There are small emeralds, rubies, and turquoises secreted away. Although unfinished, they could easily fetch 5,000 gp in total.

"See that gents? they will not bring any ill-gotten gains in the afterlife. Only what springs out of fellowship and goodness can follow you to the other side! if you have wealth, share it, and elevate your family, friends and neighbors! When the community thrives, the soul thrives."

![]() |

I'm fine with failure. I was slow to post. Happy to allow anything that keeps the game going.
"Obo, thanks for the cure. Theo We work for the pathfinder society. I'm confident that we are complicit in the worst hoarding of wealth on the planet, but I certainly like the sentiment. Get on the Ten and make your theory practice."

![]() |

Obo grins, You are welcome, always happy to help. Shall we repair this winch, might give us a chance to get back up in a hury if we need to.
Obo can auto assist an engineering check and can provide a charge of heightened awareness for another +2 competence if needed.

![]() |

Theo would gladly take a charge.
"Yes I can't see how hard it would be," says Theo, rolling up his sleeves. "Let me help you. I can hoist the cable while you do the repairs; here, let me give you some slack."

The ntent, as written, is that you need to retrieve various parts that the gugs used in their traps. In an ideal situation, it would be a dangerous game of cat and mouse--avoiding gugs and traps. Now that you've chosen this course of action (and decimated the gugs) we can move on. Especially since your collective bonuses will succeed.
Working together, the Pathfinders repair the winch and use it to ride a sort of elevator down to the next level. The mechanical sounds obviously deter several creatures that may have been a nuisance if you had tried to descend under your own power.
If you had chosen to ride a mining cart down, you run the risk of a crash.
The long, sloping tunnel connecting the different levels of the mine terminates at a sturdy wooden barricade.

We've just finished Part 1 of the module.

![]() |

Fandral looks to make sure his pistol is ready and nods. "I think this should do."
Nothing, unless we can head back to civilization before we press on.

![]() |

"Very well, let's press on then!"

![]() |

If we have finished part 1 does that mean we get a chronicle at this point and level up?

![]() |

I've updated the map (slide number 5) to indicate where the party is. You've just discovered a false wall and made your way through.
__________
Area B2
Unlike the mine cart tracks in the southern tunnels, these tracks are in good repair.
You can easily hear the sounds of large creatures chuckling to the south. You can also hear the whimpering of a much smaller creature--also to the south. (Both sounds emanate from area B3.)

![]() |

Obo makes sure they are in the middle of the group. Drawing a wand they gesture in the direction of the voices. Lets check it out they whisper.
Drawing the wand of dimension door. Is there an identifiable langauge we can hear?

![]() |

Obo recognizes that they're speaking giant. The witch is familiar enough with the dialect to know that they're ogres. Given that you're in the mana wastes, these may or may not be mutants.
__________
As the party approaches, you all confirm Obo's suspicions; these are mutants. The mutant ogres and having "fun" with a mutant gnome. The gnome clearly has two bad legs (from his mutation), and the ogres have made a game of making him stumble and keeping his leg braces away from him. The gnome is also clearly some kind of slave.
(The ogres are CR 8. Hand waving the mechanics of combat. Please feel free to RP how you'd like to deal with them and what you would like to do with the gnome.)

![]() |

After the group defeat the ogres, Theodric approaches the gnome, "Are you alright good sir? do you need medical assistance? how about food and water?"

![]() |

At first the gnome is terribly frighted of you. Mana Wastes mutants aren't often treated kindly. After a bit of calming him down, you discover that his name is Edwid Fickleberry.
Medically, there's not much to be done. You came before permanent/lethal damage happened.
Like many mutants, Edwid's mind has been badly warped, making him eccentric and superstitious. The ogres captured him and many of the other slaves from the nearby Multhok Colony about a month ago. The ogres blindfolded the shackled slaves before leading them here, so Edwid can't provide much information about the area. He is certain, however, that he smelled coal furnaces and heard the machinations of a large factory before being led into these tunnels.
Edwid and his comrades have been ordered to mine for "green crystals" by their ogre taskmasters. They're to send the green crystals to the surface via the ore lifts. In addition, the ogres tasked them with bringing any rare gemstones or valuable ores (such as gold, silver, or mithral) directly to Slavemistress Metruni.
I've revealed more areas of the map to indicate what you learn from his descriptions. His mind is fractured enough that lucid descriptions are difficult to obtain--other than the fact that slave quarters are in area B7.

![]() |

"Thank you for the information. Do you wish to come with us? we plan to free the other slaves so you could perhaps be reunited with them."
B4 through B7 I think.

![]() |

"I think he would be better off on his own. It would be one less person to worry about" Fandral says, cleaning the blade on the tattered clothing of the ogres.
Agree, lets make way to the slave quarters.

![]() |

"I'm happy to lead the way but I don't relish guarding an extra body. Let me just refresh my stimulants." Professor does what he needs to, to feel young.

![]() |

"I think Mr. Fickleberry should be making the decision whether or not to follow us to the slave quarters. I will certainly not mind guarding an extra 'body' so to speak- by 'body' I think Professor Kaldosian meant you, Mr. Fickleberry. Say, tell me how you arrived in these caves and what happened since..."
Theodric falls to the back of the party, talking to the rescued gnome with a low voice while his colleagues take the lead.

![]() |

Obo looks at the little gnome with evident pity. He has experienced such a lot of pain for so small a creature.
It would be dangerous to bring Ficklebury with us but likewise it would be dangerous to leave him here alone. Is there somewhere you would go where you would be safe? asks Obo. I have the means to teleport you there, or at least somewhere relatively near perhaps.

![]() |

The gnome feels confident that he could find a good place to hide while you do your thing. Nobody will expect him back soon--especially after having been taken away by bored ogres.
__________
You move to the next area.
AREA B4
Four pairs of wooden beams hold up the ceiling of this tunnel. A conveyor system between the beams runs the length of the tunnel, terminating at a cracked, mineral-studded cavern wall. The conveyor in this area is 5 feet wide and runs southeast to northwest.
A dozen overworked mutant slaves of various humanoid races toil at the end of this tunnel, pulling crystals from the rock with their picks, shovels, and even bare hands.
Four ogre slavers and their pet dracolisk watch over the miners, and the giants amuse themselves by trying to teach the half-dragon simple tricks when they're not taunting or abusing the slaves. The dracolisk is fitted with a leather headpiece that covers its eyes, preventing it from using its gaze attack and effectively blinding it.
(Again, hand waving. The ogres are CR 8 and the dracolisk is CR 7.)
__________
Once you've dealt with the orges and dracolisk, the slaves are initially frightened. Your new gnome friend appears and reassures the slaves.
__________
Something is really "different" about the crystal they're mining. (It takes 2d4 hours to study the crystal. Habblegash may be able to help.)

![]() |

STUDY TIME! ...while Theodric sees to the slaves in terms of food and water, helping them pack so they can return to their homes, etc.

![]() |

"Is it worth the time to study them now or should we keep clearing this level and then do some research over whisky later."

![]() |

Ok let's secure the caves first- makes sense as I have active buffs going! :)

![]() |

Obo looks around this area, This place doesnt feel terrily safe for careful study. We have made a fair amount of noise and it will travel far down here. The ogres superiors may also come to check on them. I think we should clear the place before taking the time for study

![]() |

AREA B5
The mine cart rails leading down this relatively narrow corridor end abruptly at an unfinished cavern wall bedecked with green crystals. Two mutant ogres are fiddling with some kind of mining machine here.
