I have a question concernign downtime.
Since its only 2 days and crafting Potions without infusions takes 4 days I will be half finished and have to continue in the next adventure.
If this is correct its still what I do and create myself a batch of Acid's Flasks as Backup spendning 6 gp.

For my free consumables, I am taking scrolls of Magic Weapon and Charm. (3pts in school of scrolls)
I have prepared the cantrips Electric Arc, Light, Mage Hand, Ray of Frost and Shield. I have prepared Grease and Magic Missile for my 1st Level spells.

Downtime for Novis:
Level 0 (DC 14)-Plane of Fire Lore: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 - Success
Looks like that should fetch me a single shiny silver

I won't be shortchanging anyone just because this is a quest, I was advised against that. I'll put my roleplay in. The coordinators said they are just as important as real scenarios.
To be fair, we were already going to roleplay anyway, PC-to-PC: with or without Venture-Captain Rashmivati Melipdra!
Stubborn, stubborn, stubborn, gamers! Also: appreciate you for stepping up to GM. It is certainly no small feat. Let us know how we can support you too?
...
Also wait - Does this mean Rifflinok is coming back?...

I doubt if Riff will return, I PM'd him after his goodbye post. I explained that I had a previous quest with DG and it was fun and he should give the game a chance. It may have been the 'stubborn players' that made the game fun, but DG steered it fine, not the best but we went through quickly and had a good group. His reply made it pretty clear he wasn't willing to give it a go.
I understand now how DG was GMing us, so in some ways it doesn't matter what the GM does (within reason) the players can still have fun. I don't mean to criticize DG, in the other games he GM's he could be absolutely fantastic, (also assume DG is male).
I'd just like to thank any GM who is gonna take a 2E novice (me) through any game, cos it takes sooo much more to GM than play, however you do it.
Basically agree with Jakoby

You get like 2 downtime days.
To help folks out with Earn Income (using Crafting, Lore, or Performance) against a Task Level (and Appropriate DC) of two lower than your Character Level (minimum 0):
1) Jakoby and Ro (3rd) > Task Level 1 (DC 15) > success > 2 silver x 2 days = 0.40 gold
2) Havar Vagnurson (1st) > Task Level 0 (DC 14) > ? > ? x 2 days = ?
3) Novis Eldur (1st) > Task Level 0 (DC 14) > success > 5 copper x 2 days = 0.10 gold
4) Cecic Baseborn (1st) > Task Level 0 (DC 14) > success > 5 copper x 2 days = 0.10 gold
Hopefully that helps?

Summary: Looks like you need to have the Scroll, pay for special ink (2.0gp for a 1st-level spell), then take an hour to roll an Arcana check.
Havar Vagnurson

Boons: Grand Archive Champion
Downtime: Earn Income (scribing) scribing lore: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
While aboard ship, I will use thiss time to copy both of my scrolls (Magic weapon and Charm) into my spell book.
Charm Arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Magic Weapon Arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Spending 1gp for the critical success for magic weapon. Also losing 1gp of materials for the critical failure for charm.

There are two ways you can go about this scenario. There are bad guys in here. When you find them, they do not attack on sight. You can participate in some challenges against them which will give you bonuses to your attacks or other stuff when you do fight them. You can also just try thievery and/or stealth to surprise attack them before they get the chance, a more risky approach, cause failure means you fight them outright.
Also, there may or may not be more NPCS in here, so don't attack them until you identify the bad guys as bad guys, and yes there is a check for that.
Jakoby & Ro
|
Ok.
Let's Talk to the Bad Guys to make sure they're Bad Guys, maybe roll some Skill Checks.
If we can convince them to give us the Artifact, that is best. Otherwise, we can Fight them.
What do you all think?
| DoubleGold |
There is a specific skill check to find out who is who. You have to identify some symbol. But you haven't run into anyone yet. I was just giving everyone a heads up. Some people like to play along and others like to just ambush the enemy. I wanted to put it out there ahead of time before I end up with that one guy who decides to ambush the enemy and everyone else is not on board with it.

As someone new to PbP, I wonder the same question with new GMs. I don't think there is a right answer?... Sorry if that's not helpful!

In 2E, any checks that the GM is supposed to roll instead of the players is tagged "Secret" in the Core rules. Havar's got the right of it, with the other major one being Recall Knowledge checks (reminder, unlike 1E, these CAN be made untrained (DC is based on creature/item level tho, so it gets super unwieldy super fast if you're not trained). Though, the Core rulebook also notes that the GM can have PCs roll secret checks if they want, depending on their style, particularly if they think that the PCs won't metagame the knowledge that they rolled low.

Cecic can do Iron Talon Grip will save +9, Cinderpalm reflex +7
So from what I can make out,
Cecic does Iron Talon with Jakob
Cinder palm could be either Havar or Novis with Jakob
Soaring Ashes Havar with Jakob.

Okay, so I have to bactrack a little. Jackoby and Ro, your post which was 14 minutes after my post got missed, cause I was editing and stuff and because it took me a while to write it up. 11:21 or so to 11:35. And when I got an update saying 1 to 3 new post or whatever, I ended up skipping over that one thinking I already read that one.
I was under the impression you guys were still going through the scenario normally. I haven't looked under the spoilers yet, to see your rolls. plus they roll checks against you so even if you roll anything but a 1 you could succeed, but are you all still wanting to go through the challenges, or do you have some other plan?
Edit:
I was also under the impression Jackoby wanted to fight them outright, but the other 3 of you did not. To be clear these guys aren't hostile to you yet, they are only doing what they are told by their leader. So asking them to surrender has no effect. They aren't allowed to do anything without her permission, fight, surrender, steal, participate, start a war, etc.

I'm flexible.
Down to execute "take no prisoners" plan.
Down to participate in "martial arts" challenge.
1d2 ⇒ 2
| DoubleGold |
Novis: You were sent by the Monastery of the Unblinking Flame to recover some stolen artifacts from the Temple of the unforgiving fire. To get to the temple, you had to board the Obsidian Owl, a artifact hunting expeditions ship. The journey on that ship took five hours and led you to the Temple of the unforgiving fire. There you ran into a notorious duo of bandits led by Meleeka. Instead of attacking you on sight like most bandits do, Meleeka challenged you to a series of martial arts tasks. Now that you have bested her and her men, she is willing to give you the key and let you *leave with the artifacts*. *Or is she?*
| DoubleGold |
Passing though, I guess you'll have to roll intimidate then to pass as through.
Don't worry, I know people are trying to get the drop on the bad guys. If they don't do something in the next several hours, I'll just have them roll some kind of check to see if they can get a surprise round. Getting that surprise round isn't going to be easy though.
Jakoby & Ro

Think I missed the last Gameplay post, sorry!
Sensing their malicious intent, forget Intimidate, Jakoby will just straight up attack!
Jakoby & Ro

This is a much improved map, DoubleGold. I see your Cartography skills are improving with each adventure.
In the interest of fair play, although it looks like Jakoby acted on a Surprise Round(?) and is now at the top of the initiative order, my experience running games myself, as well as other GMs I have spoken with, is that Surprise Rounds were eliminated for precisely this reason: To prevent one character (Jakoby here) from getting to use 6 actions before anyone else, as that constitutes an unfair advantage.
Storywise, Jakoby attempting to "get the jump" on Meleeka is instead represented by rolling initiative, and if Jakoby were, say, a Rogue instead of a Ranger, might choose to roll Deception or Stealth for initiative (see: Surprise Attack), instead of Perception. Since Jakoby rolled higher, this is in fact what has happened: She "got the jump" on Meleeka. (If Meleeka had rolled higher, Jakoby would have failed in her effort).
And so, having acted already, I waive the rest of this round, and invite my colleagues to instead take out the other bandits.
See you at the top of round 2!
