Almaas asks his arcane companion to use his mage armor wand on him. He uses an oil of grease on himself.

He waits a couple of minutes and casts ‘protection from evil’ on all PCs and then casts bless!

So we PCs are all under a protection from evil effect and everyone under a bless effect. 7 minutes duration.

“I hope we can save this community... and save ourselves! Where do we confront the emissary?!“

"How is everyone else? Does anyone need healing before we fight this "Emissary" - whatever that is!?!"

@GM, is Dawa still sickened from the failed Will save? If so, Dawa will use his scroll of Remove Sickness to temporarily remove the sickness effect for 10 minutes.

@all, note that Bless will not stack with Banner of the Ancient Kings & Flagbearer - they are both morale bonuses. It's still useful since the banner only works within 30' (and becomes a penalty if it's taken away), but just fyi.

Dawa will use the last of his power (i.e. his final four level 3 spell slots) to cast Resist Energy (Communal) four times on himself and his comrades (including K'nai, who temporarily lowers his spell resistance), giving everyone Resist Energy 20 for Fire, Cold, Electricity, and Acid.

Unless anyone objects, Dawa also takes the Sun orb (Searing Light) and the Apostae orb (Fly). Are all the other orbs claimed? Dawa will take any that have no users at present, since he's nearly out of his own spells that might be useful.

When the Emissary comes near, he casts Divine Favor on K'nai.

He holds his wand of haste in hand, ready to use it as soon as the battle is joined. (unless someone else wants to use the haste orb?)

"All right. I guess I'm ready. What could possibly go wrong?"

Btw, Dawa has 9 rounds of Bardic Performance remaining (I've been tracking since we entered the ship earlier in the day). Six minutes isn't enough time for him to polish his Singing Steel buckler, so starting Inspire will be a move action, not a swift.

@Dawa - Tzleztor will use the Haste orb. A PC action is generally more important than the action of a familiar. Just please do not tell him that I said that. ;)

@Taman - Align Weapon can be cast before combat at it will have a duration of 11 minutes. I suggest that everyone who wants to Align their weapon to Good.

Xilt grins as he knows the timeline of the emissary's arrival. He whips out two scrolls of Mage Armor and fortifies himself and Tzleztor. He casts Reduce Person, Heightened Awareness (from a wand) and Levitate on himself. He then uses one of the orbs to protect himself from Negative energy (Death Ward). The minute before the emissary arrives he uses a scroll of Mirror Images to provide some last minute protection for himself.

Mirror Image: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"Please we should all make use of the different orbs before the Emissary arrives."

@GM Jhaeman - Xilt's initiative for the final fight should be +14 with the Reduce Person spell and Heightened Awareness.

@Dawa--yes, you would still be sickened if you don't use the scroll.

It might be a good idea for someone to comb through the recent posts and make a list of group buffs--there's a lot of them, and it's better to make sure everyone takes them into account rather than trying to ret-con anything.

Tense seconds pass, and then for the second time in a matter of weeks, a strange shape falls from the sky over Dustpawn. But this one doesn’t pass by the old mining town, and instead heads straight for it!

The dark blot lances down from the heavens, landing in an open plaza just north of the Mineshaft with a strangely muted rumble.

Surging forth in a tide of tendrils and mist and otherworldly slime, the rampaging townsfolk and the Pathfinders alike hear a voice in their minds: ”This place is now vassal to the Dominion of the Black. Slaves, come forth and prostrate yourselves. Interlopers, come forth to be destroyed.”

Identify Emissary (DC 27 Knowledge (Dungeoneering):
The Emissary is a verspergaunt! Vespergaunts, often called “heresy oozes”, are emissaries and tools of the horrible god-things of the Dark Tapestry. Found primarily on Aucturn, they prepare inhabited worlds for the coming of the Dominion of the Black. As an ooze, there’s no point in trying mental attacks, illusions, or waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Identify Emissary (DC 32 Knowledge (Dungeoneering):
An aligned weapon would be good to use against such a monster!

Identify Emissary (DC 37 Knowledge (Dungeoneering):
Creatures who get too close to a verpergaunt sometimes go mad and attack themselves or their allies.

This encounter takes place on Slide # 2, and a picture of the Emissary is on Slide # 3. In regards to terrain, treat the tents and wagons as impassable terrain that provide cover, and the stage as 5’ high but climbable through the stairs on the side or a DC 10 Climb check.

Three of the arrows hit, and looked very effective.

The Emissary undulates, and suddenly much of the plaza is cloaked in utter darkness!

This is deeper darkness--even those of you with darkvision can't see through the area in a 60 foot radius from where The Emissary is/was standing. I'm terrible at the radius templates and did the best I could, but if anyone can improve on, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Dawa Will: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
K'nai Will: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

GM:
Does Protection From Evil protect against this? Confusion (at least the spell) has the enchantment (compulsion) tag, which protection from evil specifically calls out as giving immunity to (assuming the emissary is evil, which seems like a safe bet).

Also, if this is a spell or SLA, K'nai has SR 13 (and Dawa has SR 13 vs spells/SLA cast by evil outsiders (which the emissary might be?) or with the evil descriptor

In any case, if Prot Evil doesn't protect, and K'nai has failed his save, then Dawa will use an Immediate Action to end Inspire Courage and cast Saving Finale, which gives K'nai another try.

K'nai Will reroll from Saving Finale (if needed): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

If Saving Finale was not needed for K'nai (e.g. due to being immune from Prot Evil or SR), then Dawa will use it for the first ally within 25' who fails their save.

Lastly, am I correct that the Daylight spell on Tachonius is cancelling the darkness? That is, if I wait for Tachnonius to move up, then the emissary will be viewable?

Where I end up what I do with the rest of my turn, will depend on if I see the emissary.

I don't think protection from evil will apply here, as the confusion effect isn't an attempt to exercise mental control like charm person or dominate person. It's a supernatural effect, so spell-resistance doesn't apply.

Suddenly, Dawa inspirational song ceases as he draws upon his bardic magic to rescue K'nai from the Emissary's power.

Immediate action to cast Saving Finale, ending Inspire Courage, but preventing K'nai from failing his save (rerolled save in the spoiler above).

Then, Dawa recommences his celestial song and retrieves his Orb of Fly. Inspire Courage is active again. Dawa inspires as a move action and his haunted curse means that retrieving the orb is a standard action.

K'nai waits by Dawa, ready to receive the Fly spell.
