Vilkik Birdsong |
"Thank you, but I can't possibly carry all of this. I'll leave this", Vilkik says returning the greataxe to the wagon, "The rest might come in come in handy. So, tell us, which way went your quarry?"
GM Crunch |
"Well, last I saw him, he was going the same way we were," Lin Po motions to the still-moving wagons. "I don't see him now, but he'll turn up. Maybe you should just go forward on foot, or-"
He stops, suddenly turning as if he had sensed a fell presence. The eight-legged cat from Vilkik's vision has just sprung into existence a short ways behind you. Straight from the middle of a tree, no less! It snarls and paws forward. "This thing again!" Ti Lan yells, as she and her partner run to grab crossbows. The other caravan hands are running for cover. "Help us drive it back, fellows!"
But despite the warning, it still has the element of surprise. It flickers, reappearing in your midst. Hissing all the while, it lashes out with claws and teeth.

1) Crane Stance. 2) Recall knowledge. 3) Flurry of Blows w/ Stunning Fist
GM Crunch |
Bellamin has never seen such a creature in Avistan. But in his time working on the Lodge here, he has heard tell of something called the "poracha" - a capricious feline beast normally content with solitude. The rumors mentioned supernatural abilities pertaining to mobility and avoiding notice. Vilkik is under the impression the being is bloodthirsty and leaves awful wounds with its claws.
Sun Fire Boom Boom shakes the poracha's resolve, which Bellamin is barely able to capitalize on in the form of a solid punch.

If allowed, he will try to identify the beast

GM Crunch |
The poracha tries and fails to bite Sun Fire Boom Boom. It is about to land a heavy swipe of its claws on Grumzuk, but pulls back at the last second as Vilkik impresses upon it the mistake that would be. From the sidelines, Ti Lan shoots it in the side with her crossbow.

Will once again use Glimpse of Redemption if any of the goblins are attacked.
Vilkik Birdsong |
You're right, but unfortunately I can't edit the post anymore. Besides, I think Magnus just pummeled the poor thing. If it's still alive, it would be the result of the rolls plus the +1 from Inspire Courage and the poracha having -2 circumstance penalty from the flanking. Ah, maths.
Riff the Goblin |
Riff will move to get behind the wagons and watch out for the kitsune. He scans the tree line and tries to see if anyone is trying to get the jump on the caravan.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
I also just realized I have been treating encounters like 1E not 2E and that is why you guys have so many actions... #noob
Bellamin Pegason |
If it's all right with everyone, I'm waiting to see if the folks who've already gone have put the creature down before I take my actions.
GM Crunch |
Grumzuk lands a lucky rock on the poracha, while Magnus's axe nearly takes one of its legs off! Somehow, the beast still stands. This time Lin Po is the one to shoot it from a safe distance.
Crossbow Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Round Two:
Poracha -49
Vilkik
Riff -12
Magnus
Grumzuk

1) Flurry of Blows. Doubt that'll hit, but DC 18 Fort or Stunned 1. 2) Strike. 3) Seek to the SE, please! +5 Perception
GM Crunch |
Chancing a look around, no one sees anything untoward but the foe at hand.
The poracha fights on in spite of its wounds and predicament. Possibly harder than before, with strength borne of desperation.

Vilkik
Riff -12
Magnus -12
Grumzuk
Bellamin
Sun Fire Boom Boom -26
Bellamin Pegason |
Focusing his inner strength into his hands, Bellamin aims another barrage of supernaturally fast blows at the beast. This has gone on long enough!

Strike #3: 1d20 + 9 - 8 ⇒ (3) + 9 - 8 = 4
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Realizing just how wounded Sun Fire is, Bellamin takes a moment to patch up the poor goblin in what seems to be an impossibly short amount of time!
Battle Medicine: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Amount healed: 2d8 ⇒ (5, 7) = 12
1) Ki Strike Flurry! Same DC 18 Fort save. 2) Strike. 3) Battle Medicine.
Sun Fire Boom Boom |
Sun Fire Boom Boom reels from the powerful blow from the six legged cat before being helped out by Bellamin.
Sun Fire Boom Boom tries his best to rhyme despite the gaping wound.
"That cat may have a lot of luck
Soon it's fury will turn to chill
Now it's time for Boom Boom to duck
Then we'll strike a blow to kill
"
perform sing: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Fail, so just 1 round again.
Sunfire then ducks and rolls towards the far side before taking a final stab at the cat.

Vilkik Birdsong |
"Leave my friends alone, you beast!", Vilkik yells as she places her right hand on a wounded Magnus. "A toast for his health, Cayden", she thinks as her hand lets go of Magnus and her rapier comes up with two more stabs at the creature.
Rapier strike (P): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Rapier strike (P): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

attack: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (11) - 2 = 9 for damage: 1d12 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
GM Crunch |
The twin rapiers of Vilkik and Sun Fire Boom Boom bring the poracha down! It utters several oaths as it collapses. "Hate...you..."
None of you see any other combatants, much less the kitsune. Lin Po and Ti Lan rush over to your side. "This creature has been plaguing us throughout our search. But I don't think it is in league with the fox. From its occasional yellings, I think something else has made it angry. We had to do this, the beast refused to see reason."
From another wagon, a man calls out. "I see him, the fox is heading north!" Lin Po looks visibly relieved. "The spirits favored your actions! You can track him on foot and take back what is ours. But perhaps you'll want to tend to your wounds first?"
Combat over!
Riff -12
Magnus -6
Sun Fire Boom Boom -12
Vilkik Birdsong |
"The ki-tsu-ne", Vilkik utters the word with difficulty, "can wait. Our friends are hurt, especially the goblins!", a concerned Vilkik says to Bellamin as she takes out her healers' tools. "I'll see to Riff and Magnus as you've already helped Sun Fire."
"You're really tall!", she tells the half-orc as she lays one of her hands on his leg.
Treating Riff's wounds: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Riff recovers...: 2d8 ⇒ (4, 7) = 11
I spend 10 minutes treating Riff's wounds. As I've had time to refocus, I'll use lay on hands on Magnus to top off his health.
Bellamin Pegason |
Does Battle Medicine make someone immune to Treat Wounds for an hour? I could see it both ways but I haven't been able to find a real consensus on it.
GM Crunch |
Battle Medicine is definitely not treat wounds, shouldn't have any interaction with the treat wounds cooldown.
Yeah, that's the impression I was under.
Vilkik - I'll say yes to Refocusing while using Treat Wounds. Not an incredibly Cayden activity, but unless there's a real time limit, GMs shouldn't give you a hard time there. Just for future reference.
Riff -1
Sun Fire Boom Boom -12
Vilkik Birdsong |
Vilkik - I'll say yes to Refocusing while using Treat Wounds. Not an incredibly Cayden activity, but unless there's a real time limit, GMs shouldn't give you a hard time there. Just for future reference.
You're right, that's my bad as I had forgotten about performing deeds while refocusing. We could say Vilkik sings a song to Riff about how handsome and dashing Cayden is while she treats the wounds and can inspire courage, even in the smallest of people.
Bellamin Pegason |
Just wanted to double check. Thank you!
Bellamin takes the time to readjust and replace the hastily applied dressing he placed on Sun Fire during the battle, to help the goblin heal faster and more completely.
Treat Wounds: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Sun Fire healed: 2d8 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
Afterwards, Bellamin spends some minutes meditating on the Acts of Iomedae and how best to follow her example in these...unusual circumstances.
Vilkik Birdsong |
"That won't be necessary, Magnus. I think I could I could climb on top of you if I needed to. But I'd say you had a much larger punch than that thing!"
She adjusts her rapier in its sheath. "So it went north, huh."
Riff the Goblin |
Riff pays extra attention to Vilkik's song as she treats his wounds, humming a long at times and grinning from giant ear to giant here.
"Thank you friend!" he says kindly as he adjusts the bandages and stands. "I feel much better now." he puts his whip back into the belt loop. "What is our plan now, Pathfinders?" he asks the team.
GM Crunch |
1d20 ⇒ 14
Grumzuk looks over the poracha's limp form. With a quick inspection, he notes all of the wounds you and the caravan's Pathfinders dealt it. There's a lot of exposed insides as a result. The organs appear much more damaged than your attacks would have made them. They look like they have been slow to heal, and some are blackened as if by a curse.
With your healing mostly done, you set off after the kitsune. An hour passes and you seem to be making good time. Your advance is slow, as the kitsune is sometimes lost to sight, but he hasn't looked back and spotted anything amiss. But at this point you are halted - another invisible kami has approached! Vilkik's séance didn't last too long; will someone take the time to accept the spirit's memories?
Whoever wishes can also roll Survival to expedite the tracking.
Sun Fire Boom Boom |
Sun Fire Boom Boom sings Magnus a helpful song to help him track.
"
Magnus should track
Before he slashes his axe
We'll soon bring our doom
to that sneaky Kitsune
"
perform: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Using inspire competence to aid Magnus for +1
GM Crunch |
When your sight returns, you see the kitsune from an outside view. He sits on a stump in a clearing, pulling handfuls of trinkets from his bag. He holds them up to watch their sparkles against the dim sunlight. A poracha, different from the one you fought, appears in the glade. Its form twists into that of a withered crone as it holds a silent conversation with the fox. The lack of hearing doesn't impede your understanding, though; a creature taking the form of a human is after this treasure, and the fox is now hoping to be rid of it.
When you come to, you feel ready to take on this challenge armed with knowledge. Though you took no wounds during the last fight, your skin feels tender, as if you were recently hurt.
You gain a +2 to Recall Knowledge checks and Weakness 2 to natural attacks.
Magnus is able to track the pawprints with a biped's stride. You stumble into a clearing, coming face-to-face with an exact image from Bellamin's vision. The kitsune is pulling fistfuls of shiny relics from your supply and looking them over. He notices you and stiffens, but decides against running, instead spreading his arms in an invitation for you to speak.
Bellamin Pegason |
Bellamin calls out to the kitsune, saying "We are not here to hurt you, only to reclaim what was stolen. I know that there is something hunting you for it. We can help you."
