It frightens me slightly.... I mean my characters have no problem with killing when it comes to defending ones home or family, or when showing mercy really isn't an option (such as the heat of combat) but he doesn't ever coup de grace a defenseless sentient being that isn't irredeemably evil, that in itself I would deem as an evil act. that's just me

I have to admit I've coup de graced a villian we'd subdued. I was playing my Dwarf fighter and we'd taken down a bunch of orcs. One of them was alive but unconscious. My character proceeded to kill said orc. The other players were mildly shocked and when asked why he did it he merely replied with, "It was an orc." My character is very rooted in the deep seeded animosity and racial hatred of orcs and killing it was second nature to him. He couldn't wrap his head around why the others in his group even questioned it.

I had a neutral good character of mine do the same. We'd captured her before, killing our tenants (a militant anti-civilization druid), and she escaped through wild shape when we tried to bring her to justice. We met her again a bit later, after she'd killed another 40 or so people, and we happened to end the combat with her unconcious instead of dead. The paladin and monk wouldn't kill an unconcious woman. My little NG halfling bard walked up and slit her throat. Wasn't necessarily a good act...but it was the least bad act I could think of.

The Exchange

I have toyed with a world before where it is a "grave sin" to desecrate the bodies of fallen foes. Even worse if you touch a dead being such as a unclean goblin. Not so much as a "ha ha" you can't have the loot from your kill, but rather that loot is not your reason for killing.

So I remember a post a while back that had a comparison between alignments and a mental circle of personality types. Does anyone recall it?

Sounds like a troll festival waiting to happen....

There are days I almost wish to be OCD. I might get more done. I am not ADHD.

I've done that with a couple of NPCs in the past.

I'm so freakin' tired and sore, I can't even tag. Physically and emotionally exhausted. Maybe I'll explain more later.

I just found a restaurant in Houston that serves saba! Cooked saba, not saba sashimi! I have been craving Japanese home grilled saba for almost 10 years now. I am soooooooooooo going to find time to go there. Mmmmmmmmmm.

He's the inverse of Harrison Ford.

Sad but true.

I'm afraid to be asking this...

What was Ford's last good movie?

Now listen, y'all: Ford was a good actor in Indy 4. It's just that the script, director, producer and rest of the cast sucked.

Cate Blanchett does not suck.... (well um not in a bad way I am sure) and any further disparaging of the Katherine Hepburn of our time I will need to ask you to step out side :-)

Elizabeth is still one of my all time favourite movies.

They also have yasai tempura, ahi tuna steak, lots of sashimi and sushi, gyoza...and a tatami dining room!

natsukashii....

although, I refuse to sit seiza. Never learned how to do it without my legs falling asleep...

what's dumb down mean? Movies like Inception are hard enough to follow. ;)
I have as of yet to watch Inception. I will however. I am hoping for a more intelligently made film.

I thought it was really good. Excellent premise, great sfx, great acting, great action, excellent direction and editing, few gaping plot holes. I recommend it.

Yeah... I *ADORE* Cate. Love her in everything she does!

But the russian spy thing? Just a bit over the top, for me. She did it perfectly, of course, but the character sucked.

Free! FREE!

My right hand is temporarily free of restraint, and I can TYPE!

Woot.

When Jess gets here I will be sure to get pictures of the damage before we wrap it up.

Rant:

Spoiler:
So my 81 yo neighbor had a little car accident with my house a month ago. Some bricks smashed in and some minor lawn damage. His insurance company is handling the repairs (~$1k) and sending me a check for $100 to fix the ruts he left in my lawn. He comes over tonite after viewing the estimates and basically accuses us of milking/inflating his insurance claim. He's really angry/embarrassed about the whole thing and hates that his car is not fixed properly, but he was directing his anger at us. And I've been really mellow about this from Day 1. Oh well, tomorrow he'll rant at his insurance company. Hopefully he'll realize he was overboard and apologize.

Scarab Sages

Sweet! Bulmahn got the package. My portion of the Weekly Grind prize is set!

As for the movies of the summer: SO AWESOME!!!!!

Green Lantern, Captain America, and Thor all look kick ass!!

Fright Night remake has me a little leery, but apparently the role of Evil Ed has been taken up by McLovin from Superbad! That plus the other cast members and it looks...interesting.

Conan is gonna kick ass.

Looking forward to the last Harry Potter movie.

Pirates of the Carribean I'm also leery about, but only because I hated the last two movies.

Agreed, fantastic, wonderful actress, bad character and probably bad direction (although when you are playing a female Russian spy / officer perhaps ‘ham it up’ is the only acceptable direction).

Yes.
+1, not to mention the way they use alignment as a straight jacket.

yes, but it doesn't scare me in the slightest. Alignment remains one of the most poorly defined aspects of this game of ours, and as such is going to lead to several fights. That said, if one has a problem, they should not suffer in silence -take note of what you don't like and what you think does not work and change it when it is your turn behind the screen. Speaking for myself, I have made several changes to the alignment system for my homebrew.

i have a vague memory of such a thread.

oh hells yeah. I go to cafe zaiya in manhattan every now and then to get some of that, but it isn't freshly prepared (I am not in manhattan that early in the morning). If I am ever in your area, we can go there together and gorge ourselves. All on me, of course.

Oof. I wish our next game night weren't more than a month away, because I could really use some imaginary carnage right now.

Spoiler:
I had to tell my best employee today that she's out of a job at the end of the month, because we can't renew her contract until we know how much our budget is getting cut by congress. It SUCKED!!

not really. i showered before she got here, so the dried blood and such was gone. but still bad looking.

sad to say though as a photogr...um, camera operator, Jess is a really great engineer. ;-)

i'll see if i can crop them appropriately when i'm feeling a bit more dexterous.

Bruising never shows up well in pics. It can be spectacular in person and look meh on film. It's a letdown.

Brain done for tonight.

Sorry the pictures didn't turn out, crashthulhu, I'll just take your word for it about how awful it looks.

I think it boils down to

1) much of the body of the opinions in question are subjective

and

2) lacking of no more than a passing acquaintance with true evil

EVERYBODY thinks he or she is the "good guy." Everybody.
