Will definitely be checking out Kings of the Wild, but I'm probably not going to have a lot of free reading time this year. There's some certifications that i need to get and studying for those is going to be eating up a good chunk of my free time.

GM Infinity |

I sometimes worry that I'm being a bit of a spotlight hog with my characters and that I'm stepping on other people's toes. I guess that's part of my social anxiety, but it doesn't help when I know there are times where I have done that.
I can empathize with social anxiety, but I wouldn't worry about it. Write 17 pages if you feel up for it. With the exception of Kjeta (who seems fantastic) I've gamed with the others here to an extent where I know they are all kickass and can pull out wtf moments at any given time.
Everyone ebbs and flows with how much they are in to a certain game in a certain post, so don't feel weird putting in what seems like extra...everyone's moment comes whenever they choose. Don't think of it like hogging the spotlight, just think of it like carrying the scene along.

Well put. It certainly echoes my sentiments.

Raseri Whitescale |

Thanks. I certainly feel a little less self conscious.
By the way, I'm guessing that Lexi's middle name is Thasscold, cuz dang! That was cold! Didn't even hesitate. :P

Raseri Whitescale |

True, but she could just call dibs on her stuff by right of having to kill a friend. Ras still has that dress that she wants to get cleaned that's worth a good bit.

Kjeta Strongmalt |

That was a simple-but-beautiful Lexi post (to follow some rich, beautiful Raseri posts).
Reply from me coming in a bit.

Carnadine |

I'm confused and tired. Had RL game night last night, and a particularly challenging few days at work...
So, can Carnadine learn the two rituals to 1) open a portal into the shadow realm and 2) trade memories?
Can he trade his package of pig's knuckles for both?
Does portal ritual work in reverse to open a portal from the shadow realm to midgard?
If one of us learns a ritual, can they teach another PC?
Would Carnadine score any trade value by arguing with the sluagh's comparison of bartering and fighting?
What else of value would the sluagh want? What else does he have to offer?
cheers

GM Infinity |

Carnadine can learn and cast both rituals, yes.
He can trade his pig knuckles for 2) trade memories ritual.
The sluagh just gave the 1st from overall success at the skill challenge (I delayed it a bit to try and make the conversation more organic, but just trying to speed it along now so sorry for confusion).
The rituals can be taught to anyone if learned, yes.
The sluagh seems to like asking open ended questions that are hard or impossible to answer objectively.
The sluagh has hinted spirits like himself treasure new memories. So, it stands to reason, if the memory ritual was learned you might have something more to offer the sluagh than pig knuckles.
The sluagh has mostly information to offer, it seems to know things of the distant past and of the Shadow Realm.
Hrungnir (only) at this point also knows that the sluagh has been scrying on two locations: the Lych Gate, and an arcanely pinpointed location near the pier.
Lexi found a huge ass pipe that is a total wtf at the moment.
:)

Carnadine |

cheers

Carnadine |

Carnadine needs to pick up his gear.
When they reach the Shadow Realm, he will finally summon his warhorse. Can we assume it arrives with riding kit? What else could he keep on the warhorse that he summons? Lances? Saddlebags?
cheers

Carnadine |

Sure, just don't go crazy with exploiting it for storage I guess...its a spirit that retires to the fugue plane I assume when dismissed.
Appearing with ghostly bit, bridle, lance, saddle, saddlebags is reasonable.
Thanks.
Carnadine will carry a custom backpack that will split and slide into the two empty saddlebags, because he's been using this trick for years.
I was thinking that Carnadine would be summoning the same skeleton warhorse from the plane of the Red Lady, so he could name him and have familiarity with him. What do you think?

GM Infinity |

Sounds good to me. Ochre and rust stains on skulls is a motif for Marena if going that route. I suppose with the bump up to Int 6 you'll choose Darakhul for its language?
Another totally off topic thing I just noticed that might be a neat direction to explore for your character: Marena is a suspected mask of Sarastra (the Queen of Night and Magic you are about to go visit).

Yes, Darakhul. That's Carnadine's second language
I actually did not know about that mask, when I went with the Red Lady. Just wanted to test drive a Ghost Knight. So, I'll let the Queen make the first move to connect those dots.
What are the stats for the skeleton undead warhorse that we'll use? Please post or link, so I can put it in Carn's profile. There's a zombie and skeleton version using google-fu. OR something else
cheers

GM Infinity |

There's one in the basic rules. Gives up Trampling Charge for poison and exhaustion immunity/darkvision I guess. +2 AC over normal warhorse but bludgeoning vulnerable. Your Frightful Charge should make the loss of Trampling Charge not matter so much.
Large undead, lawful evil
Armor Class 13 (Barding Scraps)
Hit Points 22 (3d10 + 6)
Speed 60 ft.
STR 18 (+4)
DEX 12 (+1)
CON 15 (+2)
INT 6 (-2)
WIS 8 (-1)
CHA 5 (-3)
Damage Vulnerabilities: Bludgeoning
Damage Immunities: Poison
Condition Immunities: Exhaustion, Poisoned
Senses: Darkvision 60 ft., Passive Perception 9
Languages: Darakhul
Challenge 1/2 (100 XP)
Actions
Hooves. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage.
edit: ninja'd, let me check out the zombie version

Raseri Whitescale |

Post coming in a little while. Sister is over while the weather’s bad.

Kjeta Strongmalt |

Hey gang. I'm recently arrived in Germany and quite jet lagged. Fingers crossed to perhaps post in about 24 hours. Just too few functioning brain cells at the moment.
Got to catch up on the recent post though and love them.
Off to bed now!

Raseri Whitescale |

So, a question for our GM, could we take a cart and some pack animals along, or is there not enough space to do that beneath the docks?

GM Infinity |

Studying the spell, you only have 1 minute to get everything through, and is accessed by boat if the sluagh is to be believed. The portal is 20 ft radius though. But yes, you....wait for it.....need a bigger boat.
I'm imagining something like this for size...so its possible, just the time constraint. Its also a skill challenge (the final one) so other stuff will be going on. You can certainly try.

Carnadine |

A couple of things:
1. Carnadine has Find Steed and plans to ride once we cross. He’ll have 10 days of food but only a day or two of water from a water skin
2. The mount can carry lots of equipment instead of Carnadine
3. That’s a lot of equipment that just needs flotation devices instead of inside a boat
4. Does anyone else have Find Steed?
5. Be careful bringing anymore mouths to feed
6. Can anyone make food and water? Do we just to bring containers to stock?
7. Do we have access to any of Mordenkainen’s instant campgrounds?
Alright, looking at magic available to us. I think we're covered for food & water:
* I think we are totally fine if Lexi casts Goodberry every day to "provide enough nourishment to sustain a creature for one day."
* If Lexi is down, the two clerics can pray for Create Water and/or Purify Food and Water. We probably can hunt in the Shadow Realm, but we probably don't want to eat anything without Purifying it.
Cheers

Raseri Whitescale |

Okay, Raseri would just use the bits of the dart mechanisms that she didn't use to trade for medical supplies. A healer's kit and if she could get them, some potions of Cure Wounds. She'd also like to get the dress she bought cleaned up and buy a couple more nice outfits in a style more akin to what she remembers as fine clothing from the northlands. Carnadine has a point, so I think we'll skip the pack animals.
To make this a little more clear:
- Raseri is selling the bits of the dart mechanisms she didn't melt down. I think there was a gem in them.
- Using that money and what she already has, she would like to buy:
-- 2x Healer's Kits
-- Whatever healing potions she can find and afford
-- 1x magical cleaning for her fancy dress
-- 3x fancy outfits in a more Northlands style.
-- Jewelry to go with the new outfits.
-- Wand of Purify food and drink if she can find one.
How much will that cost?

GM Infinity |

Alright guys, Ill let each PC roll for a chance at 1 magic item each to purchase before setting off. Uncommon permanent items like wand of purify or a decanter of water, roll percentile. 70 or higher, the item is available in Zobeck for purchase at 500 gp.
You only get one roll. Na, f%*~ it, two rolls.

Raseri Whitescale |

Potions: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 I'm guessing these are the light potions.
Wand of Purify Food and Drink: 1d100 ⇒ 11d100 ⇒ 47 Neeeope. Still, I thought I'd have better luck than to roll a 1 for one of them. :P

*Lexi |

Percentiles for a Decanter of Endless Water: 1d100 ⇒ 991d100 ⇒ 44
Now I just need to come up with 150 gp.

Raseri Whitescale |

Ras can lend you the cash.

Carnadine |

Why are you stressing the water? "Nourishment" in the Goodberry would cover the water. Is it for the Blessed Brew?
Carnadine only has 200 gp left that he dumped into lifestyle. GM, could he just buy 4 more potions of healing? Or, how much should he leave in lifestyle?
if roll like Ras is needed: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Kjeta Strongmalt |

Why are you stressing the water? "Nourishment" in the Goodberry would cover the water. Is it for the Blessed Brew?
DM should confirm, but I *believe* Blessed Brew essentially purifies whatever I use it on. Relevant text:
you can use your Channel Divinity to transform a container of nonmagical liquid into blessed brew; the number of doses equals 3 + your Wisdom modifier. Any special attributes the liquid previously had are negated.
(my emphasis)
If I'm right, we'll be fine as long as we only drink beer.
(Sometimes adventures such as these take a heavy toll on people...fortunately, Kjeta is ready to make the sacrifice and drink naught but ale for the next 10 days or so.) ;-)

Deimus |

1d100 ⇒ 841d100 ⇒ 73
Not sure what this means: can I choose any uncommon magic item?
If so, any suggestions?

GM Infinity |

You guys with apartments/housing/businesses...you don't know when you are coming back so its up to you how much to drop on whoever is taking care of it.
Light potions confirmed (recall you guys also have twenty five cure moderate scrolls...).
Beer purity confirmed.
Deimus, you get to choose 2 since you rolled above 70 twice. Choose any uncommon permanent magic item you want (or lower). I always recommend the crazy stuff that no spell can replicate.
Carn, recall the party has 10,000 gp from the goblets should it need.

Hrungnir |

Given that we will he leveling soon, I’m just posting this here for my reference. Have the time at the moment.
HP: 75 + 8 = 83
Extra Spell Known: Flaming Sphere
Feat: Rune Knowledge (2 more runes)
Turisaz
* Rune Power: Giant as bonus language
* Rune Power (4th level): A weapon marked with turisaz does an extra 1d4 lightning damage with each hit. Marking the weapon takes 1 action, and the effect lasts until it’s been triggered five times or up to 1 hour.
* Rune Power (5th level): Armor marked with turisaz has resistance to lightning damage and applies a +2 bonus to the wearer’s Strength score. Marking the armor takes 1 action and the efect lasts while you concentrate, for up to 1 hour.
Nyköping
* Rune Power: Proficiency Survival
* Rune Power (5th level): hen the rune is sketched on the ground, nyköping allows up to six creatures of your choice to each regain hit points equal to 2d8 + your wisdom modiier. You must be able to see the creatures, and they must be within 30 feet of you. Invoking the rune this way takes 10 minute
* Rune Power (6th level): When 1 action is spent tracing the rune on the ground under open sky, nyköping creates a gust of wind. The wind lasts while you concentrate, for up to 1 minute
———-
Was going to do +2 Str, but this felt more flavorful. Instead, for 1/hr per day he gets +2 strength, and in addition can speak giant, has survival trained, can heal the part 1/day, can add electricity damage 1/day and can cast gust of wind 1/day.
I think the utility and flavor is worth it

Carnadine |

magic: 2d100 ⇒ (100, 71) = 171
Ok. Carnadine will leave his lifestyle investment intact.
So, we have two more choices of magic items. And can use the goblet sale to procure. Right?

*Lexi |

I think Goodberry only covers food, not water, but after looking at the spell again, I will admit it's not clearly written.

Kjeta Strongmalt |

Ahhh yes, I haven't thought about shopping yet but might as well join the rolling party
2d100 ⇒ (7, 30) = 37 <-- looks like I was too busy drinking brews and brewing healing potions to do much shopping for anything uncommon.
I just did a quick hunt for a free online source of 5e items + their prices (ideally filterable to Common) and struck out. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Any suggestions for L1 utility scrolls to bring (I don't think I can find any above L1, right?) or, more general, other items Kjeta might benefit from, and that're within our budget?
. . .
By the way, I'd mentioned previously that I'm happy to make Healing Potions for folks. We established I can make 2/day, for 25 GP each. Does anyone other than Raseri want some?
I can also make others a Continual Light "flashlight" if you'd like, and can make at least 1 more of them at L4 (some others at L3) which is nice since it means means it overpowers most darkness spells. (Mine is a Holy Locket I wear around my neck, and can open/shut as a simple action). Any takers? (We saw previously that the Shadow Fey can be MUCH harder to fight when they're IN shadow.)

GM Infinity |

Kjeta, Xanathar's is where all that stuff is for buying magic items, not sure about a free online source. I do kind of prefer using the AL stuff as a guide, though. Plus, Zobeck is quite different from the standard DnD city so I dont follow the book exactly... So all that combined...
Level 1 scrolls are 75 gp. One can scribe them for 25 gp, but it requires the Arcana proficiency. The scroll you want might not necessarily be around for sale. Roll d6 to see how many scrolls you can scrounge up from different buyers. Then roll percentile. 25 or higher, you find a specific scroll.

Kjeta Strongmalt |

Thanks. I have a hardcopy of Xanathar's...but not on this continent. :(
WotC has every right to not let their rules be published online (except behind their paywall)...it's just annoying at times like this.
If anyone has the time and inclination, please feel free to look through Xamathar's for 1st level scrolls and/or common items that might be worth Kjeta buying.

I mean, for scrolls its any 1st level spell, for you to use it its gotta be cleric (with the extras on your class list).
