We've no leads for the lethal lutenist. Carnadine paid an informant to collect leads though...

Ah, that's a good point. Of course, we could always go looking for the lutenist in the taverns and other places we're likely to find the murderous minstrel. I'm sure the GM could have some fun with that.
"So, does this one make you feel like getting violent?"
"Yes, but not for the right reasons."
Deimus |
Please note that I'll be travelling starting Friday, all the way until New Year, with limited opportunities for posting. Please bot me when needed.
Raseri Whitescale |
Yup. I don't think there's a combo of spells that could get Raseri's Persuasion high enough.
That and she's a plan spoken Northlander that just showed that she came armored and is wearing a symbol of Thor under her cloak.
Carnadine |
Hope you were alright with Carnadine taking over there.
Where does everyone what to go next? Are you ready for the shadow realm? So, we go see the portal expert at the collegium?
We still have the deadly lutenist which is a side show.
I think we might want to save the goblets to give to the queen as a gift. Use them for beer until then.
Cheers

Thrilled with what you did, thanks!
Carnadine seems well suited for those negotiations, and I'm glad you stepped up to them.
(And I'll take the teensiest credit for getting you tipsy first, to loosen your tongue (and grant you advantage). Praise the Mother of Ales!) ;-)
GM Infinity |
Whenever ready to 'find the shadow realm', Id like to break the natural flow of the game and do something like a chase scene...a series of skill challenges with various environments and consequences if you know what I mean (without the chase part). Its kind of a detective thing, and I think it will work out better in pbp that way.
But I still need to find a way to convince Lexi's character to go. So maybe prepare/side quest until I/we can think of something would be my vote. :)
Raseri Whitescale |
I'm enjoying this part, though Raseri isn't much fo a diplomat.
Carnadine |
Carnadine is ready for the wild/shadow side/realm, so someone will have to suggest the side quest until I/we can think of something.
cheers

Just getting on the plane. I'll be traveling for 4 weeks (work and family) but expect to be able to post most days.
Infinity, did I manage to get 50Gp of ruby dust without trouble?
Kjeta Strongmalt |
Great, thanks!
Next Q: How long does it take to make a healing potion? I'm happy to brew a few at cost of time allows.
Just arrived with extended family. Gonna be pretty busy (in a great way) but will post when able.
GM Infinity |
Lexi, thanks for that new perspective on poisons. I was always thinking it was a once hit, its used up sort of thing...but that's totally not right. That makes those extracted poisons pretty badass really...if you are into that, Ill drop some opportunities.
Kjeta, Potions of Healing have their own rules as a subset of Magic Items in XGtE. A normal Potion of Healing takes 1 day and is 25 gp. If you want one of the other varieties, like a Greater Healing, its 1 workweek (5 days) and 100 gp. Having helpers trained in herbalism kits reduces the time requirement (divide required time by number of trained workers, including self).
Its probably safe to say your loyal acolyte Brumdal is trained...so half a day for a normal Potion of Healing. You could likely use your clerical charisma (DC 15) to recruit another hireling for a low cost (1 gp per day) to further reduce the time requirement.
*Lexi |
I am interested in trying to collect some poisons, as well as learning the recipe for the emerald scorpion poison (cause that poison is....rough, to put it mildly). Dealing 7d6 poison damage until someone saves three times is rough.
Raseri Whitescale |
Merry Christmas every one of ya! I hope you've had a good one and here's to a happy new year!
Deimus |
Happy holidays!
Kjeta Strongmalt |
I'll offer Blessed Brew to anyone who wants advantage on CHA...and Kjeta is good with any of the Persuasion-based challenges.
Kjeta Strongmalt |
Alright. I'll take the Students or the Librarian...but I'll wait to see if someone has a preference for one or the other.
.. Edit, actually I just had a thought about a student scene so I'll roll with that one. Post incoming.

The Kobold Press gearforged is its own beast (and can not drink), different in a lot of ways from the Eberron 'official' warforged and its iterations through UA. If Deimus' player wants to recrunch his character as an Eberron warforged (that can drink), yes that's possible if he chooses. Im not encouraging/discouraging, just saying its a possibility if you guys want.
I kind of like the Kobold Press version, just personal opinion...has more of an unforgiving 2e vibe. Another option (since he likes to tinker, and invented coffee etc) might be to create (over time) some mechanism that allows him the ability to drink, say once a long rest.
Because drunk machines with actual souls inside is cool.

I’m back, just getting caught up. I like the idea. Perhaps this could be done through adapting a feat?
Kjeta Strongmalt |
A feat seems like a steep price to pay, I'd think (unless this was a part of a larger feat), but I'll leave that to you and Infinity.

Yes, probably part of a feat, as 5e feat have multiple components.
Kjeta Strongmalt |
To take this a different direction,
you can use your Channel Divinity to **transform a container of nonmagical liquid into blessed brew**; the number of doses equals 3 + your Wisdom modifier. Any special attributes the liquid previously had are negated. Anyone who imbibes one dose of this brew can choose one of the following benefits:
Advantage on Charisma-based skill checks,
+1 bonus to AC, or
+1 increase to the DC of saving throws against their castings of enchantment spells.
Could I hold up both some beer and some motor oil? If so, what does it mean to transform the oil? I could imagine that it would go from normal motor oil to *blessed* motor oil, and would gain the normal options. Perhaps (for flavor) it would also give Deimus a little more of a "buzzszzz" than he already has?
Fine either way, and path yall are discussing sounds cool too. Just brainstormin'...
EDIT
BTW, I read an amusing conjecture from someone (noting that it doesn't specify the size of the container) if a cleric of Ninkash could transform a vat of acid into Blessed Brew (leading to any "special attributes the liquid previously had" being negated).
GM Infinity |
Heh, good catch. I'm generally fine with whatever, as long as Deimus' vision for his character is preserved.
Drunk robots etc reminding me of Big Hero 6. :)
Kjeta Strongmalt |
I'm 100% in favor of both drunk robots and Big Hero 6 references!
For this puzzle, is it again max one person / option in the bullet list?
Raseri Whitescale |
Don't know how off the beaten path mine was, but I had fun writing it.
Carnadine |
Yes, Ras. Keep it up. I don't have the time or enough creativity to write like you do.
Happy New Year!
Kjeta Strongmalt |
Raseri, VERY cool!
Hrungnir, feel free to assume in situations like this that you get advantage on CHA. I'm always happy to give you a good luck drink before you go out (unless there's an RP reason you'd rather not).
Infinity, is this a situation where aerial recon could give some advantage? I'm considering stretching my [owl's] wings to do a fly-by...but not sure if that's relevant.
GM Infinity |
Carn, don't sell yourself short, you are consistently awesome as well. Sometimes with writing its quality over quantity. Time constraints are a good editor, I find at least.
Kjeta, I could probably think of a connection for one of the later challenges more easily; this one...would take more of a stretch. But feel free, it will come down to the roll of the bones anyways.
Kjeta Strongmalt |
Cool, posted!
EDIT
Was just reading your article about Lych Gates and saw "The word lych survived into modern English from the Old English or Saxon word for corpse, mostly as an adjective in particular phrases or names, such as...lych owl, the screech owl, because its cry was a portent of death"
Raseri Whitescale |
Oh man, Lych Owl sounds like it'd be a good name for an Ersatz Batman, especially given the folklore.
Sorry, been rereading PS238 by Aaron Williams. If you like superhero stuff, I'd definitely check it out. Sadly the site's been having issues today.
Thanks for the encouraging words about my writing. I sometimes worry that I'm being a bit of a spotlight hog with my characters and that I'm stepping on other people's toes. I guess that's part of my social anxiety, but it doesn't help when I know there are times where I have done that. I've tried to learn, but sometimes I can be a bit slow.
Carnadine |
I just finished Kings of the Wyld and really enjoyed it. It equates adventurers with rock bands. The story is about 40+ year old adventurer's putting the band back together, so if you're a 40+ year old RPGer, you should enjoy it, too.
It's coloring how I game now.
cheers
