GM Screen:
1d20 ⇒ 12

Shakur finished off the Royal Ghoul Skull research on his second check, so I’ll say that the third check will be for the Green Stone Idol (which is a crit fail, obviously). Meanwhile I’ll say that Kolgradd’s checks were for the Signet Ring (since that’s the only other one with DC 23 Occultism).

Signet Ring:
3 RP
Spoiler:
Lowls learned that the viscount referenced is Viscount Pietro Brellin, a mysterious but popular noble in the Dreamlands city of Celephais.

Royal Ghoul’s Skull:
12 RP
Spoiler:
The amnesiacs learn the proper phrase that allows them to use Dreamlands excursion to reach a ghoul necropolis that Lowls once visited.

Captain’s Tricorn:
9 RP
Spoiler:
Captain Vadrack’s longship is made of dark wood with distinctive red-colored sails. This description brings back memories of three weeks ago, when the Sellen Starling was attacked by strange fog creatures and Kolgradd was going off about a ship with red sails.

12 RP
Spoiler:
The amnesiacs learn the proper phrase that allows them to use Dreamlands excursion to arrive near Captain Vadrack’s ship, the Bloodwind.

For the sake of expediency I’m going to assume that y’all don’t do a last-minute location change and still decide to go fight the wamps.

Fireday 4 Neth, 4716; Dreamlands Day 1

*

The tall buildings of a large city press in around a wide square. The sky is low and leaden, and a feeling of oppression and abandonment hangs in the air along with a powerful, unpleasant odor of decay. A few scraggly plants formed from yellow ceramic stand in window boxes on the buildings, and a few trees of the same ceramic composition cluster together in a nearby park. The buildings are all constructed of stone and the same yellowish ceramic material. Map Updated

The amnesiacs hunker down for a couple of hours to make their daily preparations and wait for the stupefaction of transitioning to the Dreamlands to subside. The amnesiacs are relieved to find that Kolgradd still has Quaveandra’s heartstone in his possession upon transitioning to the Dreamlands. I also need to know who is wearing the heartstone, because wearing it will grant you a +2 item bonus to all of your saves. Also, Kolgradd is now no longer drained 1.

As the amnesiacs finish up their daily preparations, they wait for the fogginess of their minds from the Dreamlands excursion to subside, but as they are waiting, they get the overwhelming feeling that they are being watched. This feeling of paranoia causes them to take up arms, prepared for whatever evils may be at their doorstep. To be clear, two hours haven’t passed yet, so all of you are currently stupefied 1 due to not critically succeeding at the primary check for Dreamlands excursion.

Initiative; PCs stupefied 1:
Boodiddly: 1d20 + 14 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 14 + 2 - 1 = 26
Jevar: 1d20 + 11 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 11 - 1 = 24
Kolgradd: 1d20 + 16 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 16 + 2 - 1 = 26
Shakur: 1d20 + 15 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 15 - 1 = 20

??? Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

The amnesiacs’ paranoia turns out to be well-founded, as from the various buildings and alleys emerge terrifying sights: bald, gray-skinned monstrosities with sharp nails and teeth and glowing orange eyes! The amnesiacs (sans Kolgradd) get flashbacks of their time in Briarstone Asylum: a shower room with a massive tub filled to the brim with flesh and viscera, snacked upon by flesh-eating ghouls that looked almost exactly like these monsters. The undead salivate profusely, bolting out of their hiding spots as they emit mad wails!

Red and Orange both fling open the door of a nearby building and run to bite at Shakur and Jevar!

Red jaws vs Shakur: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28

Orange jaws vs Jevar: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16

Two more ghouls rush out of buildings—Pink and Cyan—and bite and swipe at Shakur and Boodiddly!

Even more ghouls then emerge from the various alleyways and continue to surround the amnesiacs as they bite hungrily at the fresh meat! Since y’all were paranoid at something coming out, I’ll let Kolgradd use his AoO on…let’s say Green.

Green jaws vs Kolgradd: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25

Boodiddly Fort vs Paralysis: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25 Success --> critical successs (incapacitation)

Gonna make the very reasonable assumption that Boodiddly will use a Hero Point to reroll that nat 1 against paralysis.

Boodiddly Reroll: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26 Success --> critical success (incapacitation)

At the start of each PC’s turn: The ungodly aroma of flesh and decay on these ghouls is overwhelming as the amnesiacs start to feel very sick!

Everyone is sickened 1, and Jevar is slowed 1 for as long as he is sickened. As long as you are within 10 feet of one of these ghouls, you take a -2 circumstance penalty to saves to reduce the sickened condition as well as to saves against diseases.

Gonna assume that Kolgradd lets Boodiddly go first due to bardic performance shenanigans.

Wow... well that transition was a doozy :)

Jevar comes to wondering how he arrived in this situation so quickly.

I don't think this welcoming committee was in the plan...

He very mechanically, completely un-emotionally leans forward to retch at one of the ghouls. When he comes up he speaks the phrase to throw a shield of arcane force between him and the several ghouls in front of him.

EDIT: I just realized that I didn’t apply the stench’s circumstance penalty to the saves against the diseases for the ghouls’ first turn, so Kolgradd actually failed a save (specifically against the one from Yellow’s jaws). Thankfully it only means he’s a carrier at this point, so it won’t be a huge retcon disaster. Plus with the heartstone it’ll be a mostly non-issue.

Kolgradd Thunderiron wrote:

Well, you were expecting wamps, not ghouls, but the logic still stands. Alright, it is now noted that Jevar has the heartstone; Jevar, if you could put a “+2 in the Dreamlands” in your saves in your hotbar-thing, I’d be much obliged.

Kolgradd slams his hammer into Green and knocks the ghoul to the ground mid-sprint. Then when Shakur’s magic washes through, the ghoul is consumed in a holy fire.

Jevar manages to subside the sickness from the stench as he protects himself. To be clear, you also took a -2 circumstance penalty to that retch save due to being within 10 feet of a ghoul; doesn’t change the outcome of the save, I’m just mentioning it. You also needed a flat check to cast shield because of stupefied.

DC 6 flat: 1d20 ⇒ 13

Boodiddly harmonizes. BTW, that was the correct number of flat checks (one each for inspire defense, inspire courage, and lingering composition), however the DC was technically wrong; for stupefied the flat DC to Cast a Spell is 5 + stupefied value, so in this case it would be DC 6 (which changes nothing about your turn; I was just being pedantic).

Kolgradd swings his hammer many times. His attack against Blue completely knocks the ghoul’s torso from its legs and sends it flying only a crit because of your bard! He then swings at Cyan and likewise smashes the undead into a pancake! He then swings at yellow, but the ghoul manages to dodge out of the way.

The ghouls now bite and claw wildly at the amnesiacs! For the sake of not having to preview after every roll, I’m going to put all of the Fort saves against the paralysis and diseases after all of the attacks. Jaws are always the first attack, and claws are the second and third.

Boodiddly vs Purple 2 Paralysis: 1d20 + 13 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 13 - 1 + 1 = 33 Critical Success --> Critical-er??? Success (incapacitation)

The amnesiacs still feel as they’re being watched, and they notice that peeking out from the windows, doors, and alleys of the various buildings are even more ghouls. However, these ones do not seem as hunger-crazed as the ones attacking the amnesiacs; they seem to be more…astonished.

Unfortunately, the ghouls’ stench specifies that you’re only temporarily immune to it when you succeed at a save against it, so y’all will have to keep making saves against the stenches that you failed against.

At the start of each PC’s turn:

To be clear, you also took a -2 circumstance penalty to that retch save due to being within 10 feet of a ghoul; doesn’t change the outcome of the save, I’m just mentioning it. You also needed a flat check to cast shield because of stupefied.

Done and noted.

In Jevar's moment of clarity, before he is again sickened, he notices that Kolgradd is doing a number on the ghouls. What's more, he detects that more lie in waiting.

Jevar and Shakur try to use their magic, but the fogginess of their minds prevent their spells from functioning. And the action is technically disrupted, so yes, the spell slot is used up (more explicitly explained here).

Jevar manages to subside his sickness. You forgot the +2 item bonus to those saves from wearing Quaveandra’s heartstone, by the way.

Boodiddly hastens Kolgradd.

Kolgradd swings and completely demolishes Yellow, then moves over and swings twice at Red, though the ghoul manages to stay standing. You also forgot about the -1 from sickened for the 2nd and 3rd Strikes, but that changes little.

The ghouls, suddenly seeing Kolgradd’s clear power and superior combat prowess (as well as getting rid of half of their number) all glare at him as they surround the dwarf! Purple then Steps over and positions himself into flanking Kolgradd. Saving the fort saves against rider effects until after all of the attack rolls. Kolgradd swings his maul around in a wild, yet calculated, assault! His first three attacks all manage to destroy their respective ghouls, and his last attack hits Orange hard, knocking the remaining ghoul off its feet from the force of the blow! Prone from crit specialization.

Shakur launches a rock at the prone ghoul and sends it straight through the undead’s body as it ceases moving. FYI, the attack roll would’ve taken a -1 due to stupefied, but that doesn’t matter in the long run.

As the chaos dies down, more ghouls start approaching from various allies and windows, though they do not appear to be as violent as the ones the amnesiacs just put down—they seem more curious than those ones. The amnesiacs nevertheless keep hold of their weapons, which keeps the ghouls from approaching closer than a couple dozen feet. Suddenly, a group of three ghouls approach closer, their hands raised as one of them shouts ”Those men were crazed; we are not! We merely wish to speak; we mean you no harm!”

Assuming you all allow them to approach (I will remind Shakur that destroying undead is one of Pharasma’s edicts, so parlaying with these ghouls isn’t going to be extremely problematic). One of the ghouls points to himself. ”My name is Kharesto.”

“I am Millahna.”

“Utrenk.”

“We are so sorry for what happened; these men…their minds snapped from the hunger, and there haven’t been many living creatures here in a long time.”

“We wish for your help; there are several strange spider creatures in the cemetery that are causing problems for us. They overpower us too easily and we need to be rid of them.”

“We are willing to compensate you if you do so.” The other two ghouls nod in agreement.

”Yeah, that way. There’s a section of fence that has fallen inward, so you should easily be able to get in.”

Since no one seems to have anything else to say: The amnesiacs settle down for about another hour as they both wait for their stupefaction to subside as well as take care of their wounds.

To the Cemetery

The stinking, ceramic city opens up into an enormous cemetery dotted with mausoleums, monuments, and headstones. The cemetery stretches for nearly a mile in every direction and is ringed by a tall iron fence. A section of the fence is knocked inward, allowing access to the lumpy ground of the cemetery. Outside the fence, a wide ring of ceramic statues stands vigil, facing inward toward the cemetery. Even from this distance, you can see that many of the graves have been torn up, soil and smashed caskets strewn haphazardly about. The cemetery is occupied by strange creatures that lurk among the monuments and headstones, gorging themselves on old corpses they dig out of the dirt: nine-legged spider creatures with eyeless pig heads and legs that end in absurd, red, webbed feet—wamps. They appear to be eating solitarily, as they are strewn about the area. Image of the wamps on the map. Map Updated

As the amnesiacs approach, though, two of the ceramic statues suddenly shudder as they both turn and glare at the amnesiacs!

Gonna assume that Kolgradd lets Boodiddly go first so he can get his bard stuff out of the way.

As the fighting occurs, the wamps in the cemetery seem to minorly notice, but don’t appear to do anything as they simply shrug it off. I didn't put the wamps' placement on the map yet because a) they're not a part of this combat, and b) it would clutter up the map.

Kolgradd moves over and swings his maul, hitting White’s leg and completely shattering it! The sudden loss of a leg causes the statue to fall to the ground, but not completely out of the picture. FYI, you forgot about the bonus from inspire courage.

Realizing the poor situation that it’s in because these statues are actually intelligent, White Raises its Shield and tries to stab at Kolgradd from the ground.

Hmm, they're starting to break down already. Jevar smirks as he says this, confidence building.

Maybe I should hold back on the "good" spells for those wamps...

He forms and shoots a ball of fire at the prone statue, and then manifests an arcane shield.

Reeeeeeally hoping since this turn is in the end of round 3, that they don't have AoO's left for Jevar :D
