Jevar claps his hands over his ears in response to the horrific screaming.

Why do the dark nightmares we encounter always have such hideous screams?!

His tone seems vaguely sarcastic but it's obvious that it has affected him. He throws his fingers forward and releases a bolt of lightning through the creature.

| Strange Aeons | Prey for Death | ◆◇↻

Kolgradd manages to shove the ccreature a bit more, causing it to teeter on the edge of the ship! I’m not going to say it’s off the ship quite yet; I WILL say that it’s currently on uneven ground, meaning that it’s flat-footed and has to make a save every time it’s hit or fails a save. I will say that if it fails that save then it goes into the water rather than just falling prone. I’m going to say it’s…DC 25, I guess? I’m just pulling that number out of thin air, to be honest

Boodiddly throws a quip at the monster followed by some of his magic, though the creature doesn’t seem to understand the gnome’s words. Bon Mot fails because it doesn’t understand Common.

Skywin? Will: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22

But even despite not understanding the joke, the creature’s nightmarish screams give way to shrieking cackles.

Skywin? Reflex; DC 25: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26

Botting Shakur: Shakur casts shield then casts ray of enfeeblement at it.

Shakur enfeeblement vs Skywin? FF: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
Skywin? Fort; DC 25: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (5) + 20 = 25 Success --> Failure (crit on the spell attack roll)

Skywin? Reflex; DC 25: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34

Jevar lets loose a bolt of lightning before hiding behind Shakur.

Skywin? basic Reflex: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (2) + 18 = 20

Skywin? Reflex: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26

And despite all of the abuse, the monster remains balanced on the edge of the ship!

Loses an action due to hideous laughter The creature Strides away from the edge of the ship Triggers from Kolgradd and lets loose another hideous screech! Sustain Soul Scream, which repeats the 10-foot emanation of stupefaction from last turn.

Jevar looks more and more eager as the creature is backed towards the edge of the ship. Then his expression sinks when it slithers back to the center of the deck.

Okay, let's try something different...

He begins weaving an imaginary sphere between his palms and "dismisses" it forward after a short incantation. A ball of fire appears next to Skywin, rolling onto its fleshy mass.

Jevar creates a sphere of flame, then protects himself.

Skywin? Reflex: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (6) + 18 = 24

Boodiddly protects himself as he keeps the monster laughing.

Kolgradd tries, and fails, to hit the monster multiple times. He then protects himself. You needed to do a flat check in order to cast shield because you’re currently stupefied.

Kolgradd DC 6 flat: 1d20 ⇒ 20

Botting Shakur: Shakur casts telekinetic projectile then backs away from the screaming beast.

DC 6 flat: 1d20 ⇒ 2

The monster once more echoes a nightmarish scream! ◆ Sustain Soul Scream.

Will Saves; inspire defense:
Jevar: 1d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 13 + 1 = 17 Critical Failure
Kolgradd: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 14 + 1 = 17 Critical Failure

If Jevar and/or Kolgradd do not reroll those critical failures:
Jevar and Kolgradd are both stupefied 2. This stupefaction stacks with further stupefaction from failed saves against Soul Scream (maximum stupefied 4). The stupefied value from Soul Scream decreases by 1 after a night’s rest.

The effects of the critically failed saves are not currently listed into the initiative card, pending potential rerolls.

The monster then lunges at Kolgradd, intent on biting the dwarf.

Okay, so Jevar didn’t reroll the crit failed save, and Kolgradd rerolled into a regular failure. Kolgradd is stupefied 1.

Boodiddly continues singing and thinks about this creature.

Boodiddly:
Occultism: This is an irnakurse, a surface elf that has undergone cruel fleshwarping. The process of changing into an irnakurse leaves the aberration psychologically and mentally broken, and are almost always weak-willed.

Boodiddly continues his music and jokes.

GM Screen:

Boodiddly:

Jevar sustains his sphere…

Skywin? Reflex: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (14) + 18 = 32

…and then issues a command to the beast, but the creature doesn’t pay him any mind, as it seems to have not understood the wizard. Linguistic trait on command, and the creature doesn’t speak Common, so the spell fails.

Kolgradd moves forward and swings his maul, hitting the creature once before it dodges away on the second.

Botting Shakur: (assuming Boodiddly shares the information he learned) Shakur casts a 2nd-level spiritual weapon, then Sustains it to attack again with his force dagger.

…then launches a bolt of lightning at it.

Skywin? Reflex: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (6) + 18 = 24

Boodiddly continues helping.

Shakur sends fear into the creature.

Skywin? Will: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35

Then Kolgradd attacks the beast, finally managing to down the monstrosity!

Hero Point to Boodiddly for seriously debuffing that creature with hideous laughter

Unfortunately, though, the Bloodwind is catching up fast, and the Starling’s crew seem to have all completely disappeared! The amnesiacs all gather up their various items they acquired in the Dreamlands (including Quaveandra’s heartstone) and try their damnedest to prepare for another attack! Shakur Treats Wounds and Boodiddly Refocuses; if Jevar and Kolgradd have any ideas for what they’d like to do in that 10 minutes feel free to say so. Basically, Boodiddly regains a Focus Point, but Shakur doesn’t.

Assurance for a 21 Healing to Kolgradd and Boodiddly: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (7, 7) + 10 = 24

Shakur then casts a single 3-action heal to top folks off.

Heal: 4d8 ⇒ (3, 2, 8, 6) = 19

Shakur then pulls out two scrolls of restoration and cast them both on Jevar to get rid of his stupefaction. Once this particular journey through the Dreamlands is over, those two scrolls will be back the next time you come to the Dreamlands. I’m doing both on Jevar because stupefied hurts him A LOT more than it hurts Kolgradd.

Suddenly, the sky turns dark, and the Bloodwind comes close to the Starling! Out from the Bloodwind shoot several lines of grappling hooks that pierce through the Sellen Starling’s frame, connecting the smaller ship to the Bloodwind! The Bloodwind’s anchor falls and on the other ship, the amnesiacs see several creatures: four grizzled humans up on the mast with ropes in hand, and a single cloaked creature that hovers mid-air near the ship’s edge, with only darkness and a pair of glowing eyes visible beneath the cloak.

Initiative:
Boodiddly: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 14 + 2 = 26
Jevar: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Kolgradd; stupefied 4: 1d20 + 16 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 16 + 2 - 4 = 30
Shakur: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33

Pirates: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Cloaked Figure: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27

Explaining the map:
The translucent grey rectangle with a red border that’s along the bottom of the map is the Bloodwind’s port side. I do actually have a map for the Bloodwind, but trying to get the grids of the two ships to line up wasn’t something I could do, so this is how I’m doing it. The pirates are currently not on the map (they’re further to the south), so I have not fully defined their positions yet (that’ll change soon). The cloaked figure’s position IS defined on that map, as they are right at the edge of the ship. I’m sorry, but this is honestly the best way I could do this combat without doing some weird Photoshopping stuff.

”Ground” refers to the Sellen Starling’s deck. The Bloodwind’s deck is 5 feet higher up than the Starling’s deck; thus, the cloaked figure is currently floating level with the deck of the Bloodwind, and the pirates’ feet are 45 feet above the deck of the Bloodwind.

No need to refocus... looks at equipment... nope I don't think there's anything constructive for Jevar to do in those 10m.

"That didn't sound good," Boodiddly says nervously as his fingers tap a jittery rhythm on the body of his violin. His gaze likewise drifts up to the sailors on the other deck. "Um, nothing to see down here folks!" he calls with false positivity. "No cause for alarm or anything like that!"

Boodiddly smiles coldly. “If Weiralai hired you to kill us, then surely she must have told you how she perished at our hands. Your boatswain? Evaporated. Your sailors? Pacified. Are you so eager to return to Leng yourself?”

”What she has told me is of no consequence, for as long as my dear Bloodwind remains afloat, nothing will stop me!”

Captain Vadrack laughs loudly, and the hull of the Bloodwind begins creaking and swaying, as if the ship itself were laughing with him!

Initiative:
Boodiddly Intimidation: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 = 25
Jevar: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Kolgradd; stupefied 4: 1d20 + 16 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 16 + 2 - 4 = 15

Bloodwind: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (6) + 19 = 25
??? Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23

Captain Vadrack motions with his free hand as he ◆◆ casts mirror image on himself. ”Kill them all! Leave no remains to be found!” ◆ No Quarter!

Suddenly, a pair of ropes snake down from the Bloodwind’s rigging and act on their own! The ropes pounce on Kolgradd and try to tie themselves around the dwarf!

Grapple vs Kolgradd: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26

Kolgradd suddenly finds himself tangled in a mess of rope that are trying to restrain him!

Performance to Linger: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30

Boodiddly blows a long, melodic raspberry at the captain, then waves a hand dismissively. "One of you is boring enough. Begone."

Counteract (lvl 3): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28

Lingering Composition [F], then cast inspire defense [A] and dispel magic [AA].

Boodiddly lingers his music then tries to dispel the captain’s magic, but fails to do so.

Shakur places a hex on Vadrack then flings one of his daggers.

Vadrack Will: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (14) + 19 = 33

Hits on a 1: 1d4 ⇒ 4

But it merely pierces through one of the illusory Vadracks.

Suddenly, in the blink of an eye, several greenish blurs race towards the amnesiacs from around Vadrack’s position. The stop next to Kolgradd just long enough for the amnesiacs to get a proper look at them: thin, lanky creatures with antennae that are about the height of Boodiddly. All three of them blow raspberries at the amnesiacs as they slice at the tied up Kolgradd with their shortswords!

Kolgradd Fort; heroism: 1d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 13 + 1 = 20 Success

Just as quickly as they had arrived, the antenna-men dart away in a blur of green. Going to say that Kolgradd can’t use his AoO for that turn because these guys just appeared to come out of NOWHERE and attacked him before he even had a chance to process what just happened. It takes a moment of looking to find them again: one at the front of the ship, another at the back, and the third somehow managed to get up the central mast! "Ground" in this case refers to the deck of the Bloodwind

I forgot that Kolgradd should still have heroism going; rectified that in the initiative card.
