Ulretha
|
"Kill it!" Ulretha calls out without missing a beat in answer to Kioshi's question.
Not that he knows what "it" is, but it's always a decent course of action when in doubt.
Ulretha
|
It is fortunate that Kioshi cannot speak Gnoll and that, even if he could, Ulretha is far enough away that the next several 10 seconds of speech from the gnoll is too low and distant to understand.
"Because it's going to kill us, if we don't kill it!" he finally manages to shout back in Common.
Lidia*
|
"Ulretha's right! That thing eats people! It sucks out your blood!" shouts Lidia across the chasm. "Kill it!"
| Little Ben PBP |
Ben has absolutely no clue if they are telling him the truth, but figures they have no reason to lie. Kill or be killed!
| GM_Grandlounge |
Tangled in the vines above? So, a vine is hanging down, and Thyste the swashbuckler could get a running start and swing tarzan-like on the vine to her target, perhaps with a little extra flip to gain some altitude at the end? This is almost too perfect.
Yes, as if the GM modified the room to allow Swashbuckler to Swashbuckle. They never give enough features of the room to let PCs do hero stuff.

Ben and his companion take an alert position. Lidia draws her bow and fires rapidly the first one pierces deep, but the bug flinches causing the second shot to miss. Kioshi mimics the creatures natural ability with a well-practiced spell.

You are SO RIGHT. So I’m just gonna assume Acrobatics for this!
Thyste grins, the rope wrapped around the wrist just behind her buckler. She stiffens her grip with the dory and takes a running leap, her body curving...
Acrobatics+Derring-Do: 1d20 + 1d6 + 13 ⇒ (4) + (4) + 13 = 21
Modifier’s doing a LOT of heavy lifting here...
...mostly in the right direction, though her body jerks a little bit as she hits the end of the slack a little too hard.
| GM_Grandlounge |
That gets you there effectively but a little lacking in flourish. We will say that each round you can attack once (standard) and you are using your move to swing with an acrobatics check. Sound fair?
| Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Absolutely! My next swing-around will be more beautiful. ...hopefully.
For lack of a more graceful arc, she makes up for it with an impressive(??) Tarzan yell.

Ben just waits with a readied attack, letting the ladies do all the work.
Ulretha
|
Ulretha begins the climb, muttering curses under his breath the whole way. The gist of it is that all druids and giant bugs and lily pads and giant plants in general should suffer painful, lingering deaths.
Climb (untrained) minus ACP: 1d20 + 1 - 6 ⇒ (4) + 1 - 6 = -1
Climb (untrained) minus ACP: 1d20 + 1 - 6 ⇒ (11) + 1 - 6 = 6
He doesn't get very far.
But fortunately, he so doesn't get very far that it doesn't hurt when he falls.
| GM_Grandlounge |
Thyste swings through the air jamming the short spear under the exoskeleton. As her inertia pulls her back the Dory catches and tears away a plate, leaving the contents of the thorax exposed. The target proves tempting for Lidia who seems to be getting he groove back, landing two deep shots, which paralyze the creature's wings. The creature falls spinning like a maple key to the ground where it lands near Ulretha with a wet splat.
[ooc]Out of combat. Well done. Uth
| Little Ben PBP |
Ben peers over the edge, watching as Ulretha tries climbing out.
He keeps doing that and it can only end poorly.
"Well, how do we get him out of there? I have an idea. if we could get a lily pad to sink down there to him by loading it with stuff, then add a rope to him, we could pull while the lily pad rises. Not sure if all that is even needed, but Ulretha plus 100' rope is dang heavy, even if some of it is silk."
Lidia*
|
Lidia watches with satisfaction as the giant bug drops down out of sight into the deep hole. Then she calls out to the foxling. "Thyste! You're insane! Were you gonna ride that thing?"
I have an idea. if we could get a lily pad to sink down there to him by loading it with stuff, then add a rope to him, we could pull while the lily pad rises.
"We're probably gonna have the same problem with you, Little Ben." says Lidia. "You may as well ride the lily pad down on purpose and walk over to where Ulretha is. Unless you plan to change into a flying dinosaur again?"
"I think first we need to get the animals and Hildy across. Then we've already got a rope stretching from one side of the room to the other -- we'll have Thyste reattach it at the far end, then use it to haul Ulretha and you up and out."
At that point a big fly crawls into one of her ears, causing her to wave her bow around wildly about her head, and dig at her ear with her dirty hand. "Grrr! Nasty little stinkers!" she growls.
| Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste lands back on the far end of the chasm and gives a deep bow.
”Were you gonna ride that thing?”
”I was considering it!” she chimes, grinning. She works on getting the rope reattached.
| Little Ben PBP |
Ben smiles at the emphasis on 'Little' Ben.
"I'd rather not use my flying form for something I could do without. I can only do that once per day."
"I'm hoping that if I take off my armor and gear I can get across without dipping. We will see. We should test how much the pads can support."
Ben searches his memory for stuff he can load onto a pad to see where the threshold is and rounds things up, provided there is enough stuff to round up.
Ulretha
|
When the giant bug comes crashing down, Ulretha gives it a whack...enough whacks until it stops twitching, actually.
"If Ben can get across the Pack will follow him and Buddy," he calls up. "If he tells them the right way."
He goes to see if he can pull the lily pad closest to the edge they want to end up down so that he can load his gear onto it...after taking it off, of course.
Quasit*
|
"I'm going to get away from these flies, they're driving me crazy." says Lidia. "I'll keep a watch on our rear. Once you get yourself and the animals across, I'll follow."
Pulling up her cloak to cover much of her face, she retreats back into the throne room, then takes up a position beyond the range of flies and gasping flora where she can watch the bridge and the two other doors.
| GM_Grandlounge |
Ben, you think it would be rather easy to use the lily pads to offset some of the weight. They seem to lift about 200lb worth of weight. With that knowledge, you think that with either an animal handling check to push or the right trained trick then animals can get over fairly easily.
| GM_Grandlounge |
Are you all making your way up to the top and or across? If so are you moving into the next room?
Lidia*
|
Are you all making your way up to the top and or across? If so are you moving into the next room?
Yes, I think that's the plan.
| Little Ben PBP |
Ben is too heavy for the lily pads and he does not have the skill to get the animals to cross (with a +5 he has a slim chance at getting the 25 needed to push an animal, much less 4 of them!).
"I'm afraid that unless we can do something with the rope, me and the animals will have to stay on this side. It seems the pads were meant for lighter druids than I. I could get Little Buddy here to cross, but I don't know the pack well enough."
Ulretha
|
"Just come down and over here, Ben! Kioshi, Lidia and Thyste can cross and then toss a rope down. They can't lift us up but they should be able to pull us up if we're riding on one of the lily pads," Ulretha calls out, hearing Ben's debate.
| Little Ben PBP |
Little Ben looks dubiously at the little women and Kioshi.
"Let's see how that works for you first. Can they even get one of the pads to come down to you?"
Little Ben looks around for some kind of mechanism to do that.
"Can anyone see anything that might be used to lower a pad? A switch or lever or something? Particularly you, Ulretha. Maybe they needed a way to get up and down back when this place was functional."
Lidia*
|
"I'm afraid that unless we can do something with the rope, me and the animals will have to stay on this side. It seems the pads were meant for lighter druids than I. I could get Little Buddy here to cross, but I don't know the pack well enough."
"Maybe if Hildy and I help, and Ulretha calls them from the other side?" suggests Lidia.
Kioshi' Katsu

“I am sorry because I have no idea how I would be able to help you! I can jump through space but I cannot take anybody with me!“
Suddenly, a thought crosses his mind.
“Wait!“
He spends an arcane reservoir point and changes ‘enlarge person’ to ‘floating disc’. It can carry 500 pounds.
He casts floating disc and moves it over to Little Ben.
“Jump on it!! Or tell your buddy to move on it first. I will float you to the other side one by one!!“
Lidia*
|
Lidia flares up again.
"You JUST NOW thought of that?" she shouts at the witch across the chasm.
| Little Ben PBP |
This is going to be fun. Remember that the spell says 'The disk floats approximately 3 feet above the ground at all times and remains level.' so, if there is no ground...
Ben hops on the disk along with Little Buddy. "Well, I, for one, and just glad we have a solution that doesn't involve falling 100' or climbing 100' and then falling."
Lidia*
|
Kioshi looks at Lidia with a raised eyebrow and crosses his arms.
”Typical of you!! Instead of cheering that we have a solution, you just complain! Maybe you should think about your attitude!!! The can be half full of you adjust your perspective Lidia!“
"Ulretha could have been killed by that fall!" Lidia bickers back. "You watched us all that time messing around with ropes and jumping and never thought about you magic floating raft spell that could carry everyone across?" All the battling with buzzing flies and creeping vines seems to have left the ranger especially irritable.
Kioshi' Katsu
|
I assumed it is not a cliff where it goes down steeply so that the disc could be used. Hope that is correct. :-)
”Lidia, thanks for your opinion. I will reflect on the options available more thoroughly in the future!“

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
"Ughhhhhhhhh!" Lidia makes the universal annoyed girl sound and turns on her heels and storms back out of the room.
GM, once Ben and the animals are across by whatever method, Lidia will take 10 on acrobatics checks to jump across on her own.
| GM_Grandlounge |
Lot to cover. Answeres to things said below.
Ben, you could take 20 on a HA check as there is no consequence for failure. It would just be a lot of you asking and pleading for compliance.
Ulretha is correct you can walk across the bottom and climb or ride up the other side.
Ben getting on one with your weight will lower it. They are plants they have no mechanisms. They go up when there is less weight on them.
Lidia Hildy says, "I can hold a rope or try to weight down a pad to hold it in place. I only have magic to entangle something so I don't think that is going to help."
Kioshi, floating disk will help. At the last lily pad if it is at the bottom you can put the disk in on the pad with up to 500LB on it and the pad will still rise. This will allow you to bring up 700lb on each 'lift'.
Kioshi it is a cliff. But see above for a way for it to work.
Lidia you will be able to get across easily.
--------------------------------------------------------
Right now, as I see it, the best option based on your RP is that Ben jumps on the lily pad and rides it down (trying not to fall off). There is a save. Hildy will start to handle animal The Pack and Little Buddy across. On the other side, at the bottom, a lily pad is lowered with weight one of the heavies gets on it and uses the disk to hold much of there weight, so it rises up. Then they make the final jump.
Post any modifications to the plan you like or a new one entirely.
| Little Ben PBP |
So Little Ben hops on a pad and goes down. Kioshi hops on a pad with over 200 lbs on the other side and goes down. Ben crosses, and Kioshi puts Ben and the extra weight on his pad and it rises. Then repeat for Ulretha. I like that plan.
But for now Little Ben and Little buddy are trusting Kioshi and sitting on the disk on the south side because all he knows it that Kioshi says it will carry him and sent it over.
| GM_Grandlounge |
...
But for now Little Ben and Little buddy are trusting Kioshi and sitting on the disk on the south side because all he knows it that Kioshi says it will carry him and sent it over.
When he gets the chance, Kioshi can 'expand' his explanation as he sees fit. The character would know his spells and is smart enough to suggest the use option I provided.
Kioshi' Katsu
|
Thanks a lot GM! Great explanations!! :-) Kioshi uses your directions and I assume he deduced that. ;-D.
Kioshi will direct Ben and the other companions so that they use the disc and their own abilities to eventually get to the other side.
”Okay! It was a little more effort than initially thought and a lot more back and forth but it worked! Right?!?“ he says with an insecure smile.
Lidia*
|
Once everyone is across, Lidia moves up to where the corridor turns. She stands at the top of the steps with her bow ready, obviously expecting more trouble.
"I kinda expected more helpful weapons and less fey monsters from this place." she grouses to no one in particular. "I can see now why Silvermane didn't just come here himself. This place is a deathtrap."
"Hildy, by the way, didn't you say that one of the hags you and your brother fought ran in here? Where is she at, I wonder?"
| Little Ben PBP |
"I agree. This is nothing like what I expected. but then again who knows what is beyond that corridor. Shall we?"
Little Ben and faithful companion trudge on down the corridor, eyeing the thing for traps. More traps.
| GM_Grandlounge |
Having successfully navigated the lily pads you enter a long hallway after leaving the bridge of lily travel down until you reach a doorway that opens on to the greenhouse with the bridge, but now the bridge looms overhead.
All manner of exotic flora fills this massive conservatory. A thick mist floats just above the ground, carpeting the area in a perpetual fog. The air is moist, and a thousand smells, both pleasant and pungent, waft throughout the area. Water drips from a bridge high above, falling like rain to the greenhouse’s floor. A constant symphony of birdsong and other animal noises fills the air.
| Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste looks all around her, taking a deep sniff of the air and letting it out in a relaxed sigh.
”Sometimes, in places like this, I think about how we all belong in nature.”
”And then I remember that nature is only interested in eating me or [BEEP]ing, and I go back to a place with walls and coffee.”
| Little Ben PBP |
Ben snorts and laughs at that.
"I've met people that absolutely hate nature. Won't even camp. Complain about showers and hair, and other matters of personal grooming. I never took you for one of those types, Thyste. And I KNOW you brought coffee."
| Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste grins. ”Oh, yes, Ben! How will I ever survive out here in the woods without a personal undine attendant to squirt the shit off my ass? As Queen of the Druids, there are certain standards I’m expected to maintain!”
| Little Ben PBP |
"Now don't you go repeating that around actual royalty. From what I've heard, in equally eloquent terms, is that there are some that would actually think that a good idea."
I wonder if hobgoblins do that sort of thing. they supposedly keep slaves and like to torment them. Well, let's just find out, shall we.
"Ulretha, you've been rather quiet lately. Care to comment?"
Ben continues the banter as he weaves his way effortlessly though the growth as he looks around, slowing occasionally, if needed, to allow the others to catch up, making his way to the center under the bridge.
Lidia*

Lidia face crinkles up in distaste at some of the things said behind her, though it's not really clear exactly what's annoying her now.
"I'm gonna scout ahead and have a look around." she grunts, then vanishes into the brush.
