Hyena. :)

Sorry guys! I looked like at this last night and made a mental note to respond then forgot somewhere along the way.
"Don't let them knock you down like that. What do you think you are, four legged gnomes or short eared rabbits?!" Ulretha snarls as another of his Pack is knocked from their feet.
He doesn't seem to care that they now outnumber their opponents 2 to 1. In fact, he seems intent on making it 4 to 1 as he wails the orange collared wolf with his flail.

Ulretha's Pack |

Between the snarling and snapping, Fazingar's tail tucks and his ears lower, clearly chastened by his failure and Ulretha's shouting. He fights on, though, obviously trying to make up for his mistake.
Onnikka, on the other hand pays the gnoll little, if any mind, continuing to fight from the ground.
Crezobill actually prances a bit, more than a bit smug at being the only member of the Pack still on his feet.

Sorry, been busy this week with halloween and end of the month meetings and training.
Ulretha hits with his flail, severely injuring the orange wolf.
Onnikka can't quite hit from their vulnerable ground position.
Fazingar lands a decent bite that tears a chunk of wolf of, but doesn't quite knock the wolf prone (those extra legs!).
Crezobill also tears out wolf fur and blood and it is enough to knock the wolf unconscious.
Blue wolf moves in to try and attack Little Ben, but gets cut down on the way in.
The pink wolf moves to fight the dinosaur, whom immedialty responds with a talon slash.
The wolf is still up though, and tries to bite into Little Buddy, but man, that dinosaur is tough to hit.

Yes, for simplicity, I'm treating everything in the entangle AoE as part of the spell. There isn't a lot of official maps of these encounters in the first place.
Thyste and Lidia's arrows all find their marks, although mostly due to the entangle for some of them. Thyste is able to take down the first beastmaster while Lidia's arrows take out the other.
Little Ben has trouble swinging his enormous axe again, but Little Buddy tears in a wolf.
Ulretha and his pack take their revenge out on the remaining wolf.

Lidia scoops up a healing potion and a vial of acid from one of the orcs. She seems in good spirits, all things considered.
"Let's find some more!" she says, a little too eagerly. "How about we check some of those buildings off to the north there?" She points toward the L6s and L7.

Little Ben PBP |

Can anyone use a scabbard of honing? I added the items to the loot sheet.
Ben takes one of the potions and lets the others pick through the loot and plops the rest on the scales.
"Hey, you want to use this thing to heal your friends?" he asks the packmaster?

![]() |

Ulretha nods at Ben...perhaps gratefully...thankfully? Then claims two of the potions, glaring at anyone who protests. That's the easy part. The hard part is getting the hyenas to drink them. He ends up wrestling them each into a headlock and sticking the vial down their muzzle and tilting their heads back amidst much squirming, scratching and snarling.

Two scabbards available. Ben, I know you can use one. Lidia has a longsword, and you can have a scabbard for a spear, so I can use it as well. Since your greataxe definitely sees some use, I recommend that one of them goes to you. +1 untyped bonus to damage isn't a bad thing to have.

Didn't realize Ulretha had a longsword available, and since he's in melee more often than me and Lidz, I'm happy to let him have it!

Little Ben PBP |

Once Ben figures out the scabbard will actually work on his axe he takes one. Though he has a whetstone so if Thyste would like the scabbard she can have it.
When Ulretha ignores Ben's advice and uses the potions he says, "I guess not. Sorry Thyste. Would you like my potion?"
He also takes the pause in action to use the pearl of power to get his spell back.

Although the hyenas don't know her well, Lidia nonetheless tries (unbidden) helping out to get the animals to take their medicine. She approaches them much as she would likely approach a wild dog or wolf, speaking to it calmly and quietly, giving them a chance to smell her, and offering a few comforting pats on the flank and scratches of the ears. When the moment of truth comes, she reaches an arm around its torso to hold it in place, and another on its front to keep it from trying to bolt, being sure to leave the business by the mouth for their master.

Lidia actually cracks a smirk at this. "Well, we wouldn't want that." she rejoins in the same spirit. After a pause, she gets a little more serious and speaks up again. "I don't like bullies and orcs are the biggest bullies around. It's a pleasure to give it back to them in the teeth."
I'm ok with Ben and Ulretha getting the scabbards.

As you finish recovering from this fight, you look to the northeast (L7) and see that there are three houses being ransacked by orcs, although no one is in immediate danger.
To the northwest (L9), you hear the guttural voices of orcs threatening someone down this dark alleyway. In contrast to the dim light in the rest of the district, the narrow alley is obstructed by debris and shrouded in almost complete darkness.

![]() |

Lidia's first instinct seems to be to rush off and deal with the orcs she can see, but something about the threatening voices coming from the dark alley makes her pause. She looks about at the others and gestures with her head.
"I'll go have a look." she says, then trots off toward L9, edging along the buildings and trying to blend into the shadows.

Ulretha looks longingly at the orcs who are looting. If he loots them after they loot someone else then he can't be blamed for the original looting. He's just righting a wrong. Everyone knows that.
But, he knows that he probably can't take them all on by himself and the flatsnouts seem intent on helping whoever it is that is in trouble so he follows Lidia...but at a distance so as not to mess up her sneaking.

![]() |

Two half-orcs have cornered a human man named Aleril at the end of this alleyway. The villains are speaking in rough Common, and though their exact words are hard to make out, the seething hatred in their voices is clear. At one point, one says, “Move an inch and five of my best come to join us. They won’t be as friendly as we are.”

![]() |

Lidia turns and gestures for the others to hurry up and join her.
Then she attempts to fire an arrow from a hidden spot.
Do I get a surprise round action?

Little Ben PBP |

Instead he gets 5 of the other side's best.
"I don't expect you meant us."
Ben activates the scales to cast a spell but does not charge forward. Instead he readies an action to attack if they charge him since that worked so well with the wolves.
Depends on the setup what spell is cast. I was thinking burst of radiance but I'd rather not catch Aleril in the area of effect. A assume second level spells would be cast like a scroll at 3rd level?

![]() |

The most powerful ability of the scales, however, is their ability to cast divine magic, directly from Abadar, upon those that pay for it. Instead of placing an item on the left side of the scale, a character can place coins or the parchment described above to be the target or to designate another attuned character to be the target of divine magic.
They are not attuned, so cannot be targeted. The idea is that you cannot use the scales for offensive magic

Just as a note, I wasn't sure from the map if Lidia was within 30' of her target. If she is, Point Blank Shot will apply and give +1 to attack and damage. Also, Thyste goes before Lidia in initiative. If the half-orcs surrender to Thyste, Lidia will hold her fire.

Relatedly: can someone scoot Thyste closer? I’ve got a whole Move Action to get within 30 feet.

"Ulretha, care to sic your pack on them? With them being invisible and all I'm thinking their noses might serve us well." I don't want to clog up the alleyway with Ben's bulk so I'll let Ulretha go first.
" Anyone care for a blessing from Abadar?" Ben activates the scales again, this time producing the bless spell. Cheap and effective. Loot sheet updated with expenditure. 10 gp. Let's just assume I do this every time I use the scales rather than explicitly saying so.
I don't want to monopolize the scales. If someone has an idea let me know and I'll use it for whatever you want. It is a free action after all. Shield of Faith or Protection from Evil (communal?) are nice. Speaking of which, for a mass touch spell like that, would the user have to be next to all the targets? I assume so or that would be my go-to in this situation.
Or, I was thinking that with all the animal companions, Bone Fists would be an excellent choice. The thing is that Ben would be too nice to cast that and hurt Ulretha's poor pack. Ulretha might have to be rude and snatch the scales from Ben if we want to cast that particular spell.
