"I'll tell you what I know of the mineral and I'll give you a sample. Someone competent might devise a cure from that."

"Actually as a sign of good faith, I'll tell you about the eidite now and give you a sample."

"Eidite is a rare and unusual mineral that can be found in some parts of the Mana Wastes. It’s known to be poisonous to living creatures, with light-headedness as the initial symptom."

"Scholars speculate that eidite formed deep beneath the soil of the Mana Wastes as a result of the fell magic Nex and Geb used during their devastating wars."

"Eidite is valuable because it can be used to boost the power of clockwork and other mechanical creations, but it was outlawed in civilized areas due to its highly poisonous effects on living creatures."

"Eidite’s beneficial effects to machinery are temporary—machines injected with eidite or otherwise constructed with the mineral eventually begin to function unpredictably and dangerously."

Brotil does his best to minister to the needs of the slaves by Creating Water for them to drink and treating any wounds with Healing or Cure Light Wounds from his wand. He will talk to them to learn anything more they can add to what the party already know Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11. He will say to the others in passing 'Well, we have answers, but at what cost? Having made our bargain, if Philton backs out, I would feel obliged to pay the 10,00gp, although, not knowing to what end this ritual is being performed, that might be the better option!'

You bring the eidite to Habblegash, who is very happy with your find. He is sure it will help him to create a cure and also completely erase his dependency on crush.

When you return 9 hours later Metruni is sitting on her spider apparatus, but Philton is nowhere to be seen.

"Your friend is still resting, he'll join us shortly" Metruni explains, "I will tell you what I know now while we are waiting for him. In the Mana Wastes, there are unnatural phenomenons which are called Manastorms. Magical tempests during which the Mana Wastes’ corruptive effect on magic is more intense. The influence of these fell energies is even stronger out in the open, where clouds of roiling arcana thunder with insane eldritch energy and threaten to undo the fabric of reality at any given moment.

During a Manastorm, if you are outside, there is a cumulative 10% chance a spontaneous primal effect will trigger every round.

As Bortil asks Metruni about the storm she answers

"During a manastorm it is best to stay inside and wait till it has passed, but lately they seem to stay around this area very long, so if you are in a hurry, it might be better to weather the storm. The outpost is a two-story stone building with a walled courtyard and several towers a five minute walk away, maybe seven minutes for a dwarf like yourself."

To Philton she answers

"Previous investigators? I think Murg-Nurk caught an intruder. The ettin tried to break the man and get him to confess. The breaking worked, but the confessing not so much."
