Bartolomey slices easily through the green beetle, leaving an ugly swath of ichor on the floor. The remaining Morlock tries to club Bartolomey as he is distracted, but fails to hit him.

Assessing the situation, Kala shouts above the din of the scuffle as she points at the last Morlock: "Stinky! Flank! Attack" Swinging wide around her party members, she takes a position to the southeast of her target. Once Stinky is in place, she powers up a massive underarm swing. As her arm arcs upward, she envisions the Morlock's head sailing off into the air as its body crumples to the ground.

The cavern is a din of metallic tings and shouts as you close on the remaining Morlock and Beetle. Flanked and attacked by Kala and Stinky, the first blows land on the Morlock, staggering it. Trixxex's catches the eye of the Morlock this time and her baleful glare causes it to lose some of it's skill and cunning in the attack.
Brun slams the beetle hard as well, but neither opponent falls. Krystiana sets up for a cleave, but unfortunately misses the beetle and can't land the follow up blow. The beetle bites back at Krystiana but cannot latch on with it's bite.

Suddenly there's a crowd in front of Avi and he can't directly get to their foes.
Hey, you guys have it under control back there?
He moves past Bartolomey but then backs away. With a clear line to the morlock he aims his crossbow...

Bartolomey's scythe slices away the arm of the Morlock and it drops to the ground. With this Morlock collapsed, the beetle surges forward and begins to feed on it's corpse, ignoring you entirely.
The doors stand ajar, flanked by the niches and small idols on the steps. Now that combat has concluded, you see several humanoid forms amongst the detritus, clearly victims of past times. Their clothing is relatively contemporary, leading you to believe they would have been killed within the last several months. One body has a rapier and dagger that gleam still of solid silver.
Beyond the open doors, you get your first glimpse of the maze. The curving branching halls of this structure are lined with the same stone as the natural caverns outside, and the arched ceiling meets high overhead. Nearly every surface boasts inscribed text—some of it delicate and flowing, but surrounded by a tangle of jagged and hastily etched scribbles. The endless twisting passageways inspire a faint sense of vertigo, as if the floor were swaying underfoot.
Trixxex, thank you my mistake there

Avi Solrem |
Avi notes the silver weaponry and nods in agreement with Kala.
Indeed we should. I don't have a reason to believe we'll be set upon by lycanthropes in this place, but you never know. What do you say, Krystiana? The sword?
Again he kneels down and holds out his hand to the wolverine, just to see if we can earn its trust.
Charisma: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 ouch, I sense a bite coming.
Just then he notices Trixxex fidgeting in her sleeves.
So, Miss Trixxex, what do you have in there?
DM jwert02 |
Rummaging through the debris, Bartolomey and Trixxex manage to find a small, well used wand.
The doors beckon you onwards.
Pathfinder - Ok we are now entering the maze and this is a skill challenge over a period of steps to solve the intricate maze and get to inner rooms. Each round of maze challenge, the party needs to elect the individual who will lead you on. The "Leader" can be assisted by the other Pathfinders making a similar skill check. The ways to do this are:
Princely Perfumes (Perception Check) - Nuar liked the finer things in life and he has a unique cologne that you can attempt to trace the scent. If you have a scent ability, they'll be a bonus to the check.
Solve the Maze (Knowledge Dungeoneering) - Try to understand the twisting passages and corridors.
Understand the Maze (Knowledge Arcane) - The maze is arcane in nature and resembles at points a magical sigil.
As this maddening maze may wear on some minds, Pathfinders can attempt to study it further on Solving or Understand the Maze. If you do, you take 1d4 Temporary Wisdom Damage, but will gain a +5 to the skill check.
Ready to begin round 1, let me know who takes the lead and how you are going to attempt to delve deeper into the maze.
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
Kala casts Detect Magic on the wand, studying it to assess its usefulness.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Stinky has scent and +5 percep. Kala has dungeoneering +4 and perception +9. Will post rolls tonight if no one else does, as I'm out of time now.
Krystiana |
I am going to be worthless for these challenges. Diplomacy, Profession(Soldier), Religion, and Sense Motive.
Perception Aid: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
"Aye, Avi, I'll take the sword if no one needs it. Thanks!" Krystiana says cheerily. "There are dark things besides lycanthropes which fear silver. But, I'm sure we'll be fine."
Avi Solrem |
Perception, aid: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Avi casually trudges along, not really sensing what the others are picking up amongst the foul dungeon smells.
and no knowledge skills. here's hoping the scent tracing does the job...
DM jwert02 |
Trixxex takes the lead, supported by Bartolomey and through the first series of passage, the scent of heavy musk is apparent. After a long sweeping turn, the passageway seems to continue ahead as far as you can see. The imprint of a single hoof stands in the dust gathered along the left wall.
Success for Round 1, Ready for the next
Avi Solrem |
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 5
I don't know how you're all smelling anything specific down here. It's just a potpourri of underthings.
Hey, a hoof-print. Probably the minotaur, so I guess we're on the right track.
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
Up to now, Kala has been purposely ignoring the witch, but now the little rat is infringing on her territory. Hunters do the tracking, not witches. Memories of her people's troubles with witches war with her duty to the Pathfinder Society and this team. Torn between multiple spiteful reactions and being a team player, she fails to catch the signs before her (self-imposed) competition.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
"Yeah! I smell it!" Her voice sounds unnaturally loud in the maze's corridors. Stupid! Calm down, Kala! They're going to think you've got mental problems...
Stinky the Wolverine |
Noting that Kala's sniffing a lot, as well as the rat lady that Kala doesn't like, Stinky takes a deep whiff too.
Perception with scent: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Huh. That's strong. There's definitely something here, or was a while ago. This way, Kala!
Stinky shuffles in the same direction as Trixxex and Kala.
Brun the Transparent |
perception aid: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
"Are you sure master? I do not sense anything."
Avi Solrem |
Hey, who had the paper and charcoal? We're tracking our path through here, right? Kala?
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Or if you'd like hand it off to me to record, my nose isn't helping at all in here.
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
"Or if you'd like hand it off to me to record, my nose isn't helping at all in here."
"Sure, here." Kala absentmindedly hands over the parchment and her stick of charcoal to Avi as she takes a deep whiff of the air to try to catch the scent.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Okay. It's okay. The rat witch is on our side. She's not evil. Taking a few moments to force herself to acknowledge the wisdom of accepting this person as her teammate...for now. Just for now. "I smell it too."
Stinky the Wolverine |
Perception Aid with scent: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Rat pee! I smell rat pee! Can I go hunt rats, Kala? I'm really hungry, and rats sound sooo good right now. Huh? Kala? Can I? Please? Stinky begs and whines at Kala's knee.
Brun the Transparent |
perception aid: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
"Yes master!"
DM jwert02 |
Continuing with the smell of the cologne, Trixxex leads you onwards. After an indeterminable time, you reach a crossroads. The walls angle inward more at this crossroads, but the ceiling soars to impossible heights above. A spatter of fresh blood marks the left wall.
Kala makes a decision and the party moves off. The constant, curving sides of this passage close in with every step. What was once a concealed door is broken and left ajar with a tuft of white hair caught in the latch.
Batrolomey, aided by Brun moves down a hidden passageway and after several minutes, six passageways flow together like a river in this chamber. The chamber itself seems to sublty shift and move. A large, bloody handprint is the only landmark that remains constant.
That's Round 3, 4 and 5 successful based on your rolls. Carry on.
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
Well, this is trippy. Alarmed and wary by the strange room and the fresh blood, Kala's senses are on high alert as she takes a deep whiff of the air to judge the direction of their quarry.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
"The scent trail goes that way." Ha! I got it before the witch! It is a hollow, shallow victory that comes with a side of shame. She disguises her chagrined expression by digging out a piece of pocket bacon and stooping to allow Stinky to scarf it from her outstretched fingers.
Stinky the Wolverine |
BACON!!! Yumyumyum! Stinky gobbles down the room temperature bacon from Kala's hand, licking it completely clean and then some. He then noses around to find some more. Failing that, he tries sniffing for the weird smell they've been following.
Perception with scent: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Brun the Transparent |
perception aid: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
Kala's eyes narrow in suspicion. Is this maze playing tricks on us? Not seeing any arcane runes on the smooth, white wall, she closely examines the wall and presses firmly on it with the end of her warhammer, hoping to discern if it is an illusion or door or...something other than a wall. Once she has completed her investigation, she takes another deep sniff to discern the direction of the trail.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Stinky the Wolverine |
Stinky sniffs along the bottom edge of the smooth wall, and up the sides as far as his snout can reach. Will I get more bacon if I do this, Kala? I'd better!
Perception Aid with scent: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Avi Solrem |
Earlier...
Avi takes the parchment and charcoal, quickly trying to catch up their directions and record the twists and turns going forward. He does not bother with the scents from this point.
Presently...
Hmm... a most curious end.
Avi holds up his left hand, pointing two of its fingers at the wall as if lining it up with his eyes.
He turns his arcane eye on the wall to sense any deceptions or other spell effects...
Cast detect magic, scanning the white wall

Bartolomey gazes at the left wall carefully and then walks forward, disappearing into it. A second later his hand reappears, waving you forward with Brun nodding sagely.
Passing through the insubstantial wall, you see a skeleton lying against the wall ahead, a message crudely sketched in charcoal next to it: Left is back but back is clockwise and right is too hot. I’m sorry, Garanel.
After marching forward a few more minutes you notice a low, rhythmic hum buzzes through the stones of the floor. It begins to increase, causing a jaw-rattling vibration.
Round 7 and 8 successful, continuing forward
