Out of Combat
A cursory search of the underbrush near the water’s edge reveals the corpse of another of Riddywipple’s friends, the human hunter Dougal. His head has been caved in by a blow from a pegasus hoof and the pegasus has been eating his flesh, but his possessions remain on his body.
Riddywipple is distraught to find the corpse but wants the PCs to take the gear so they can stop the menace that killed so many of his friends. On his body you find a rusty gauntlet, a pouch full of dust and a coin purse with 500gp.
Go ahead and heal yourself

"Both me and Kissan here are fine, thank you fer yer concern though. Once we are set, we best be riding off though. I reckon the others might be in trouble, what with the current condition of this poor gent."
Tarael the Peregrin |
Tareal looks at Riddywipple and smiles sadly.
"There must be really some very bad influence here, inflicting the forest with the disease of undeath. We should really search the root of the infection and burn it out!"
Looking at the others she points at the kelpie.
"Shall we bind her and question her?"
Shawa |
Shawa taps herself with a wand of Infernal Healing, looking away from the group as she does so. The demon magic seems to warm her skin, as she looks uncomfortable.
"Riddywipple, we will do our best to take out the threat. Maybe you should turn back and wait for us. We wouldn't want you to get hurt."
She also nods at Tarael's suggestion, as questioning always seems to be a good place to start.
GM Z..D.. |
No sense in questioning the Kelpie. It knows nothing.
Riddywipple leads the party to a rocky outcropping overlooking the stream. At the base of the outcropping is a patch of dense shrubbery, behind which is a narrow hole with recent tracks of both animals and humanoids leading to and from it. PCs who worm their way into the hole find themselves in the mouth of a gloomy cave. The cave is filled with the horrific stench of rotting, meat, and the air is thick with flies. As the PCs descend, they discover that they are in a charnel house, littered with the corpses of all kinds of forest animals.
A quick search of the room you locate a tattered belt, a morningstar and a gold brooch.
Edmund DeCarth |
Edmund sends Kissan into the hole, before following after. In the dark, he pulls out a glowing ioun stone and places it in orbit about his head. Never been much of a fan of dark and closed spaces. Bows are pretty much useless here...
Pulling out the morning star and belt, he hands them over to the other pathfinders.
"Nasty smelling place. Unless one of yer's got a strong stomach, I reckon we should just keep moving on. No tellin' what horrible scene we might find at the bitter end of this here march"
Wolfgang Strabe |
"Yeah... the perfect place for an ambush. Keep your eyes open. Whatever did this is still around and waiting. I for one don't fancy meeting the same end these poor creatures did"
