Cato’s arrow pierces the arachnid’s thorax. The spider goes limp and hangs lifeless in the web.
From the elevation of the escarpment you see the jungle 100 feet below to the east and farther east (about half a mile away) is a Large cove.
The Jungle plateau continues to the south K13 and west J12. To the southwestK12 you can see the cliff gives way to a third of a mile wide valley, beyond which another plateau rises.
So where to next on Paradise island?
Cato Drakeson |
Cato moves to cut the Ky out of the web with his longsword. "Good show, Mr. Zarek. Your first shot cracked the exoskeleton just enough for my arrow to penetrate to a vital organ. Are you alright, Ky?"
After ensuring Ky is not in further danger, he looks around the spider's lair, wondering if it caught any other people recently. The Captain, perhaps?

Ever so slightly, Kymayni blushed as Cato helped to clear the remaining webbing away. "Uh, yeah, I'm fine" she said, holding her arm where the spider's fangs had sunk in. "Might need a new pair of breeches though" she said with a nervous laugh.
Jamming her boarding pike into the dirt, she pulled the waterskin out of her back. She took a long drink and then used the rest to wash out the wound. Before popping the cap back on, she waved her hand over the opening and chanted the divine words to refill the skin. That done, she grabbed the pike from the ground. "We should continue on west. Get a view of the other side of the island."

Other than a few desiccated birds and a cocooned monkey corpse there is nothing of interest in the spider den.
Continuing to the westJ12. The escarpment continues three quarters of the way intoJ12. From here You can see the lagoon to the northwest. South is a narrow valleyK12, K13. Southwest beyond the valley rises an expansive escarpment.

"Well!" Cato says with some excitement, "Look there! A hut by the lagoon." He thinks for a moment before sighing. "I shouldn't expect for something positive, should I? Perhaps we should check out the clearing that way?"
Cato will point both landmarks out to the others.
"If there is someone living in the hut, we might want to meet them and find out if they are freind or foe. We are still pretty close to camp, after all."

Okay you are standing on the edge of a 100 foot cliff. It will be a 2 hour and 20 minute walk back down and around the escarpment I13,H14, G14,G13, H13,I12, reach either the hut I 11 or the clearing J12
Oh by the way it begins to rain lightly.
Or
You could try climbing down the 100 foot cliff.
it will require 20 minutes to set up. And a 1 hour total climb for everyone to get down. If you have the rope. Then it is a DC 5 climb check due to rope however there is a + 5 DC due to being slippery. So DC 10 climb check. And it will require 13 checks.
So what do you want to do? 5 hours travel so far today
Cato Drakeson |
Roll20 is still on spider map not the exploration map. We're not climbing, but my vote is generally to head toward the hut.
Kymani Vettel |
"If it wasn't for the rain, I'd risk the climb" Ky said, staring out over the escarpment.
"Let's go. At least the trees may spare as the worst of the rain...I hope" she dared, looking up, apprehension on her face.
Heading towards the hut.

"I don't know what to do" she said, shoulders slumped. "We shouldn't abandoned the others, especially if getting off of this dung heap is our goal, but letting the captain and that...whatever she is, escape with answers, and without recompence, just doesn't seem right either..."

After another 10 minutes of hacking and trudging through the heavy jungle filled with bright flowers on thorny vines and biting insects. (This island is definitely a tropical paradise.)
You arrive at a fifty-foot-diameter clearing in the jungle that allows the sun to beat down upon a field of wilted-looking plants, their leaves a sickly, diseased yellow. At the center of the clearing stands a large, bulbous plant and its tall-stalked, twitching yellow flowers, attended by 3 Zombies, that turn to look in your direction.
Create Yellow Musk Zombie (Su)
As a full-round action, a yellow musk creeper can bore dozens of tendrils into the brain of a helpless creature within reach, such as a creature entranced by its pollen. This attack inflicts 1d4 points of Intelligence damage per round. When a creature is reduced to 0 Intelligence, it dies, and the tendrils break off inside its brain. One hour later, the creature animates as a yellow musk zombie (see below).
Pollen Spray (Ex)
As a standard action, a yellow musk creeper can spray a cloud of pollen at a single creature within 30 feet. It must make a +4 ranged touch attack to strike the target, who must then succeed on a DC 14 Will save or be entranced for 1d6 rounds. An entranced creature can take no action other than to move at its normal speed into a space within the yellow musk creeper’s reach, at which point an entranced creature remains motionless and allows the creeper to insert tendrils into its brain. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Yellow Musk Zombie A yellow musk zombie is a rotting creature from which wet green vines have sprouted. Treat a yellow musk zombie as a standard zombie, but with this special quality.
Plant Traits (Ex) This zombie’s animation is provided not by necromancy but by the plant that grows throughout its body. Yellow musk zombies lack undead traits, but gain plant traits. They are treated as plants, not undead, for the resolution of magical effects and attacks. Channel energy cannot harm a yellow musk zombie, for example, nor does negative energy heal a yellow musk zombie.
