Lasaraleen is not too keen on betraying their contact in the deal or committing an evil act.
Um guys? We were here as part of a contract already. I say we do what we came to do and leave with Gellius.
(She has no intention of making any deals impacting her soul.
If it comes down to combat or the wish and betrayal, she would rather fight. I am not sure if both are possible.)

1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
1d20 + 26 ⇒ (1) + 26 = 27
Atum's div familiar flies the magicked scroll over to the devil. Leventi reaches out a hand and grasps the parchment. He unfurls it and looks it over then he turns it around twice in his hand and calls to Atum.
"I'm sorry. Was there supposed to be something written on this parchment? Perhaps you gave me the wrong one?" He holds the paper so that Atum can see that it is indeed blank. "What sort of power did you have in mind? I can offer you much mortal--much more than that which you ally yourself with. That creature that flies by your side hates you elf. You must know that being joined to it as you are. Divs despise all mortals and seek to do nothing than torment them.... Do you feel that way about yourself?" The devil looks aghast. "You poor, poor man. Could your allies here not see your pain? Let me help you, friend. Name a boon and if it is within my power to grant it I shall. Power even to throw off this cancerous parasite that has attached itself to you."
Um guys? We were here as part of a contract already. I say we do what we came to do and leave with Gellius.
"Ah, but do you have that in writing? I understand that you do not trust me, but allow me to give you some advice pro bono: If it is not written down it is not worth the air it is written on. I'm sure you trust Vetrivides to keep their end of the deal, but they are a devil are they not? Hmm? And here I stand willing to give you what you want and in a binding contract no less. And in Hell a binding contract is as sovereign and immutable as cold iron. Consider that before you say 'no.'"

Quick note: that spell usually costs a 500 gp hunk of amber. Also, was Vesh looking at any aura in particular?

Yes, I know about material components at Sepia Snake Sigil. I think it is just funny to paralyze contract devil with... hm... scroll.
I think Veshtahz looking for something dangerous for party (like mass baleful polymorph spell), or something unusual for this place (like strong good aura).
Atum realizes that this creature or place much more powerful than he really expect. He gives a sign to Lasaraleen that he ready when she's willing to step for agressive diplmacy.
Diviner can always act in surprise round
Still, the elf speaks with Leventi. Slowly, trying to get word carefully.
Yes, very strange, maybe Doru ate all the letters from the scroll, huh. I know, Div will corrupt me. Slowly but surely, not so quick as hell, I suppose. Still, he's party is my choice. I apreciate your suggestion, and surely I'd like to be more powerful. I could swap my emotions for power, becasue those just a distracting element. If you are agree, hope you do not mind I invite a barrister for a while to check the deal?

The most powerful aura is a Strong one that seems to be coming from that jar with Gellius's soul in it that Leventi tucked away in his robe. Its aura reads as enchantment. It is hard to tell what might be dangerous without a Spellcraft check as even an abjuration can do some pretty terrible things to a person.
I know, Div will corrupt me. Slowly but surely, not so quick as hell, I suppose.
"Well, we are efficient." says the devil buffing his nails on his robe.

Vesh who just left doesn't have to make this save but he does have toe make the Will save DC 12 for passing through the scroll.
He points at the party and the world seems to explode around them.

NOt sure if I need to stop channeling Summon to make Imediate action spell...
Atum concentrates. Second time he makes a mistake with this devil. When Leventi start moving, Atum almost ready as he reaching bag with spell components and sighs Stough and Stone Shield quickly appears from the floors ground.
THis is spell-like from #7-99 Through the Maelstrom Rift. I think that provides protection from seeing symbol of pain, but probably gives no protection from Fireball as it blow from aside. Correct?
Atum Reflexes: 1d20 + 2 + 2 + 5 - 1 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 + 5 - 1 - 3 = 11
I dont like it. And use Scarab reroll with +3 bonus
Atum Reflexes: 1d20 + 2 + 2 + 5 - 1 - 3 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 2 + 5 - 1 - 3 + 3 = 21
If there is no cover from stone wall, than I failed. If stone wall works versus Fireball - I passed.

Fortitude, symbol of pain: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Reflex, fireball: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Chandu manages to hold herself together in the face of the symbol and shields herself from much of the flames.
Before I decide on my actions is Zarta acting in this combat? If so I delay until after she acts to see what benefits she is providing. Theres no point me starting to perform if she is going to.
Jair Whisper

Fortitude: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Jair resists to the symbol thanks to her new belt! but she's still quite burned by the fireball.
Rats!
She draws her wand of holy sword and uses it on Chandu. UMD: 1d20 + 12 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 12 - 4 = 13
But she fails to activate its magic.
Shandu, uses my wand on your weapon, it will help you defeat Leventi!
Chandu
|
Just as a note, Holy Sword has the good descriptor and so requires a caster level check to make it work in Hell. Also, how long did we spend chatting to Leventi? If it was over a minute would it have been possible for Chandu to reactivate her wands?
| The World's Most Interesting GM |

Whew. By the Dawn! Stand and fight, friends!
She will advance and channel positive healing to those around her, excluding the devil.
channel: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 6, 5) = 15
Save vs FB 25-10 = 15, healed 15, so still -1hp
Note: 10' Protection from Evil circle has +2 vs evil spells, but does not stack with other resistances (from cloaks for instance)
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Now that I am home again...
... how long did we spend chatting to Leventi? If it was over a minute would it have been possible for Chandu to reactivate her wands?
So the group chatted for a bout 3 minutes (it would have been longer had Shrec actually taken the time to read the contract he signed). Chandu would have the time to reuse her wands, but there is the question of when and how often (does something expire again after a minute? Do you go through all the switching hands, retrieving and storing wands ever minute? And so on? And more to the point does Chandu do so knowing that the already suspicious (Sense Motive +26) contract devil is standing there watching? What did you have mind exactly? I'll probably resolve it with a Wisdom check based upon the answer.
| Paracountess Zarta Dralneen |
Chandu manages to hold herself together in the face of the symbol and shields herself from much of the flames.
Before I decide on my actions is Zarta acting in this combat? If so I delay until after she acts to see what benefits she is providing. Theres no point me starting to perform if she is going to.
Zarta in this adventure doesn't come with a character sheet. She just has she can do this, and aid the following skill checks like that, and does this exact amount worth of damage when she hits someone with her dagger and so on--because I guess, a character sheet is so much more confusing? Anyhow her action is as as follows:
Zarta shouts "Be careful of Gellius' soul!"
"And you!" She points at Leventi. "You trickster! I know what turning over all the evidence we've collected means to those souls you would have to disappear! I've been disappeared once myself and that's not happening anyone--even the stupid imp--while I'm around!"
Inspire Courage An affected ally receives a +3 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +3 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls. (Move action)
Then she draws her light crossbow and moves away from the rest of the party so as to not present such an easy grouped target--however, the scrolls along the wall seem to block the way! The seemingly fire-proof parchment whip and crack like flags in a gale!
The areas marked in red are considered Difficult Terrain because of the long scrolls.
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
The scrolls slash and cut those who wander into range, and Atum and Lasaraleen both find themselves with deep cuts. 1 hp of damage each. This occurs upon moving into a red area (or remaining in one).
Atum bleed damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Lasaraleen bleed damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Zarta bleed damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Bleed damage occurs at the beginning of your character's turn. Aside from the initial 1 hp of damage the character in question doesn't take the damage above until the start of their next turn.
Shrec, were you moving around the floor grill or charging across it, as movement might be hampered by the wall scrolls?
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
NOt sure if I need to stop channeling Summon to make Imediate action spell...
Okay, after some research, immediate actions, spell-like abilities, and the timing of all the above, it turns out stone shield won't really help much. Seeing the symbol of pain causes Atum to use the stone shield spell-like ability, but Atum has already seen the symbol (and still needs to make a Fort save DC 21 with an additional -3 penalty). As for the fireball, yes, fireballs are 'spreads' like cloud spells and can get around corners, and so it would still engulf Atum.
Atum Shane

Fortitude vs pain: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 2 - 1 - 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 2 + 2 - 1 - 3 = 17
AS Atum sold part of his fate, now it becomes doom for him. After symbol of pain appears he could not resist it and took all fireball damage. He was nearly dead when Las channels but this edgy scrolls almos put the diviners to Pharasma's meeting.
This Stone Shield (being wall) sometimes provides +2 Reflex save as a cover, but now it does not really matter. Fire resistance 2, so calculating HP= 37-48+15-1-3=0 . Atum is Staggered.
Shane barely stayin at his own, burned and bleeding.
I'd use some healing! And still get Chaos blade if you wander.. - he wheezes out.
Stone shield crumbles to dust. The diviner will try his best to predict this dangerous devil. Atum getting ready to counterspell Leventi with Dispel Magic, even though he fall uncontious thereafter.
Knowledge Planes: 13 + 2 + 2 - 4 - 4 = 9
Has now idea what to do with this hell abomination.
For calculating counterspell... Spellcraft now =10, caster level=7

Will for scroll journey: 1d20 + 6 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 - 2 + 2 = 25
Doru is flying through museum.
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Except, Lasaraleen heals everyone only after Atum takes the damage (37 - 48 = -11 hp). So Atum falls unconscious (drops everything, falls prone) wherever he was standing. Then he is healed for 15, raising him to 4 hp. Then if he is in a red zone he takes 1 hp from a wall scroll and takes 3 more (from bleeding) at the beginning of his next turn. So Atum's only mostly dead.
Chandu
|
I would not renew the wand effects given the ongoing chatter. I therefore no longer have shield or bless weapon active. As a reminder, everyone has Good Hope active.
Chandu gives a look of thanks to Lasaraleen. She quickly casts a spell and then moves around the stramge grill to cut off Leventi's retreat.
Casting Haste, I should be able to hit me, Shrec, Jair and Lasaraleen. I then move around the red area to set up attacks for next turn and use a swift action for arcane strike in case Leventi provokes
| Leventi |
I'll assume since you didn't charge Shrec that you saw what happened to the others and moved around the grill but out of reach of the scrolls.
Leventi cast defensively DC 25: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (13) + 19 = 32
Leventi waggles a finger at Shrec as he approaches. Laughing he says "I'm sorry, but you really should have requested a container for all that gold as part of our deal."
