Chandu
|
That is true but we have not broken the law. Chandu turns to the ambushers, Tell me, who exactly issued this alleged bounty on us? Was it by any chance Leventi or one of his cronies? Looking back to the erinyes she adds, I fear you are being used as pawns in the ongoing politcal game.
Presumably you wouldn't object to us reviewing this bounty you allege allows you to attack us she says to the woman on the roof. Pass it down or to these devils who are doing their job so well so that we can be sure it is genuine
| Erinyes Enforcer |
A copy of the document eventually reaches ground-level thanks to the erinyes public service officer.
"Here you are." she says repressing a smirk. She floats back and hovers a few feet from the ground menacingly.
Lasaraleen
|
Lasaraleen hisses at the imp Oh just hush! We have important matters, imp!
She turns back to the discussion after healing herself. Nodding at Chandu's question.
Yes, who was going to pay the reward on this bounty? I doubt you would receive a single coin.
We are here on business and trying to conduct it despite this questionable bounty or whatever it is they are claiming to have.
Trust me, I would not stay here a minute longer than we must.

Flying Veshtahz thinks so loud that Atum hears his voice. Papers hasn't been approved. They are bluffing or just fools
After this flying head becomes visible just nearby the inp-cage, smiling creepy and showing its long tongue to Tholvinus.
Atum is not able to reach rooftop, so doru's note came just at right time. Before document comes to the ground with flying devils aid.
Respected guards of Dis. I advise that you take a closer look at papers, there is no suitable approval upon. I understand that you follow and bring law, but here is will be just a discussion between us, not massacare or a hunt.

... as for you, my dear, I'd like to hear some explanation about collaboration with Leventi. Why you work with him and abbandon your fellows to slow tortures and disposal? And why you actually here in Dis? I'am ready to offer you freedom for answers and some coperation.

Atum might be confusing two of the women here.
"I was consigned to Hell for my actions in life. Leventi leases my contract for special jobs. There is no choice in the matter. I have never had many friends." says the woman flatly.

"Let me see that." the fiendish legionnaire snatches the paper back. After a moment, she looks up from the papers at the would-be ambushers her eyes flashing like flaring coals.
| Leona, Lady of Laurel |
Although Leona hasn't had much to do with Zarta over the course of their adventure, she can't exactly ignore the woman's reaction to Ophelia. "Zarta? What's wrong?"
Seeing as the fight appears to be over, she lets the tension slip out of her and moves between Zarta and Ophelia. It's not quite protective, but it's enough to make her intention clear. If something goes sideways, she'll be in between them at the least.

Before you but them to the law, can we at least speaks to them.
More importantly, they could help our investigation about one of the Dis subject that certainly tries to not follow the rules. They could be witnesses to our case.
As you are the law here may be you can help us in this matter?

Yes, these dreadful people may have clues to our case and may provide more incriminating information than just killing them outright.

I know that you how you feel. I am in hell now, and I exchanged some part of my own fate to own this contract. Time will answer wether it was good decision or not. I want you free and may be even back to Golarion. You have some responsibilities and now one has freed you from your duty, am I right?
Atum looks at dragon-like brooch... and continues.
It is reasonable to presume, that Leventi is corrupted or just too selfish to continue his Dis duty. Anyway, he ignores order for his own favor. So it is your duty to stop him from continue, am I right? Yesterday I was in the Library and found some document which could not understand but those definitely about you people, and Leventi. You speak too much. And too kind today. Seems ridiculous. - Doru telepatically interfere.

Turning to the only human in flesh Jair says in a flat-voice
May be your soul is not yet condemn. As Leventi is on the brick of being accused of wrongdoing your soul could be sold to a better master or even redeemed. Why does he gave you the mission to assassinate us? Why he don't have his orders lawfully signed? What can you tell us?

"Actually we already have proof that you have been brought here under false pretenses. Your commander, Staebius Kalmp, traded you and your companion's souls for his own. Basically as his Hellknight subordinates he and Leventi treated you and your fellows as property which Kalmp could trade."
Atum Shane

Thank you for attention. We'll handle the rest without aid.
- says Atum to legioners. After turning to the men(man?) adds:
You remember that used to be slave, but cannot remember your master? THats interesting ...or probably just not true. Anyway we may help you with freedom if you help us with Leventi. I predict this in the future.
Lasaraleen
|
All this discussion about who is who's property and slaves and being pawns is tiring. We just need to get to the bottom of this, prove our case and get home.
Lasaraleen turns to the Erinyes directly.
So what is the deal now? Do we take them to court or can you arrest them here and enact whatever type of justice is appropriate for their crimes or the crimes of their master?
| Erinyes Enforcer |
"I'm glad you have asked, mortal."
Bound to his contract the man doomed to fouler infernal treatment should he fail his mission the man persists. Likewise the female Hellknight petitioner seemingly confused over what might become of her, and lacking any hope or direction since abandoning her allies to be ground to mortar for Dis's walls becomes unresponsive. In turn, the erinyes calls upon back up and after a short struggle that leaves the man beaten to within an inch of his life (because is actually still alive) he and the Hellknight are taken (or in his case dragged unconscious) away in chains.
"What about this one? asks a big barbed devil indicating Ophelia Peran who hasn't moved a muscle since Atum claimed her soul with his infernal contract.
"Well? What about this one?" asks the erinyes. "She's your property isn't she?"

Minutes later.
The party arrives at a small hole-in-the-wall shop of the erinyes Arenthea. They are announced by a small bell hung over the doorway. The shop seems to be composed of one very long aisle lined with bookshelves along one wall upon which are displayed the semi-mummified heads of dozens of humanoids. The opposite wall has glass-top counter filled with various arcane items.
An strangely adorable erinyes with alert wolf's ears and bushy fox's tail* stands behind the counter pouring over a copy of an ancient spellbook.
She closes the book and looks as the entrance bell sounds.
"You've found your friends I see." she says to Zarta. "I am Arenthea. How can I help you?"

En route Chandu hands Lasaraleen a scroll, I am still feeling rather tired, could you use this on me please.
It is a scroll of lesser restoration
Chandu steps up to the Erinyes. I understand your name is Arenthea and that you have involvement with a devil by the name of Leventi. Leventi is currently under official investigation for behaviour unbecoming of a servant of Hell. Anyone connected to him risks being tarnished by his behaviour. Those former associates who co-operate with the investigation however will place themselves in a far better position. I ssume you would wish to co-operate rather than risk the...alternative.
Tell us about your dealings with Leventi and provide any information you have about inconsistencies or inappropriate actions he has taken. You can be sure your co-operation will be noted by the infernal authorities.

Hello, madam Aranthea. As transparently mentioned my fellow Chandu, we are here for investigation. We can still make some business. Do you interest of some Material PLane knowledge? I can bring some fresh and even secret information. I'd use some in exchange for your cooperation.
Atum also lookes at semi-mumified heads pointed by Shrec. Wizards eyes become almost white as he uses Detect Magic.
Don't you mind?
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Yes, I'd like to know what those are? as he points to the semi-mummified heads.
The devil's wolf's ears perk up even more. "Ah. A man with an eye for quality. Those are the elven lich Nemetiel’s collection of the preserved heads of famous scholars. Interesting aren't they? Go on, ask a question. I'm sure one of them will have the answer."

Leventi will soon be return to a lemure state. Better stay the way you are isn’t it?
The wolf erinyes' ears go back. She growls and bears a pointed canine tooth. Then suddenly she stops and primly straightens. She crosses her arms over her chest and says gives a dismissive "Hmph!"
"You'll have nothing on me. My dealings with my clients is always above board and strictly confidential, though I do know a few things about the man himself that could be embarrassing."
She turns her back to Chandu and Jair swishing her tail meaningfully. "If only I could remember them." Arenthea muses.

Do you have a book of spells? I'm a bit of a collector." She says staring intently at Atum (or at least his head).

Perhaps I would be ready to exchange something for proper information, huh.
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
"Are you looking to sell?" she says looking over the books. "Although, if you have some juicy information to trade.... Hmm?" says Arenthea looking suddenly sly.
'Juicy information' means making a knowledge check (any knowledge) high enough to qualify as 'juicy'. Otherwise, folks can try and sell her on the idea of buying Atum's spellbooks or scrolls (assuming they cost a certain amount). Finally people can make a 'dark bargain' with Arenthea--ask Jair about these. Basically you need to sell something like character's: hope, future, feelings, power or soul. Finally, you can sell these intagables for other things (like magical items) in the Market of Breaths.

Arenthea's ears perk up "Tell me more."
She grabs a tape measure and uses it to measure Atum's head--its circumference, and the distance between Atum's apple to crown. "So how do you dissolute liquid air from Ralzeros' legacy?"
After a bit, the vulpine erinyes closes her notebook and begins to share her information.
"Well, where to begin? Leventi possesses the soul of one Gellius Thrune, one of the founders of House Thrune from centuries ago. The Thrunes are understand really big in the mortal realm or so I understand."
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Unperturbed Arenthea continues. "Leventi also owns Tholvinus, Gellius’s imp, but does a sloppy job of keeping the imp from wandering off. Tholvinus was recently captured and is now one of many prizes offered by the fighting pits of Widow’s Cry."
