Exo-Guardians

Okay, I've taken Weoren in a radical new direction! Here's an updated character submission for your consideration!

STATISTICS
Player Name: Archpaladin Zousha
Character Name for this Campaign: Zagrea Tannere
Race, Class, Theme and any Archetypes: Borai, Technomancer, Ace Pilot, Starfinder Forerunner

STARFINDER SOCIETY CHRONICLE INFORMATION:
Name of SFS Character you would apply this to: Zagrea Tannere
Organized Play Character Number: 49335-702
Slotted Faction Exo-Guardians

Chronicle Number: 1
Current XP: 0
Current Fame: 5
Fame Spent: 0
Roll your Day Job: ??

YOU AS A PLAYER:
These questions were basically already answered in my previous post as Weoren.

YOU AS A CHARACTER:
Tell me about your character’s background, personality and ambitions:
Zagrea effectively has two life stories, the first growing up as one of Eox's few living humans, her parents struggling to make enough money to move to Absalom Station. She began studying magic and technology, but this was disrupted by an accident that nearly killed her and caused her to become a borai. While ironically this would make her more accepted back on Eox, she didn't want to return there, and discovered the Starfinder Society, a place she felt would welcome a "freak" like her. She enrolled in the Forerunner training program and soon had her commencement. Zagrea has a consistent moral core, especially in her loathing of exploitation and prejudice, something she experienced on Eox while living and on Absalom Station as undead. She isn't very religious, leery of how churches like Iomedae's and Pharasma's regard undead like her, but equally grossed out by Urgathoa's excesses. She does, however, find Yaraesa's detachment from blind faith and pursuit of perfection admirable, as well as Weydan's egalitarian and socialist teachings. She likes to optimize whatever she gets her hands on, whether that's getting a little extra "oomph" out of a starship's thrusters, perfecting strategies in a vidgame or tinkering with her guns or armor. The combination of magic and science fascinates her, and she often studies hybrid devices when she can find them, trying to figure out how to copy or reverse-engineer them. She sometimes will devote hours to whatever she's working on, and has a tendency to absent-mindedly snack during these sessions.
What things do you do in Starship Combat?
Zagrea's current talents lie in the Engineer and Science officer roles, with bonuses of +7 in each. She also has a Piloting bonus of +6, so she can fill the role of Pilot as well, but if another player has a better bonus, she'll let them take the wheel.
What are some of your favorite things to do outside of combat?
Being skilled in many different fields, Zagrea likes to spend her time out of combat crafting new items or making improvements to existing ones, usually her own gear or that of her colleagues. If she's the designated pilot, she'll also keep the ship flying. For idle pastimes, she enjoys vidgames, especially ones with lots of options for strategizing or modding.
What sorts of things do you like to do in combat?
At the moment, Zagrea's spells are rather limited. She keeps her junksword handy in the event of being directly attacked but prefers to fire on foes at range with her gun. Depending on the enemies being faced, she'll either try to pick off weak ones to keep tankier allies from being swarmed or focus fire on the most dangerous looking enemy to help take it down quickly.
How did you meet Cedona, and why are you flying out to a backwater planet like Nakondis to see her again?
Cedona was introduced to Zagrea through their mutual associate in the Starfinder Society, Fitch. When Cedona needed a pilot to fly into the Diaspora, immediately and with no questions asked, Fitch recommended Zagrea, who impressed Cedona with her skill. The two would meet again often through Cedona being consulted for Starfinder mission briefings. Zagrea feels Cedona knows what it's like to be pseudo-human, and thus can understand the sense of alienation that can come with that, as well as talking shop about the intersections between magic and technology. Becoming a full-fledged Starfinder shortly after Cedona informed her of her retirement to Nakondis, Zagrea took advantage of the opportunity of piloting a shipment bound for there to catch up with Cedona and show off her achievement.
Is your full character sheet in your profile yet?
Yes, and it is completely updated for the new character.
Is there anything else about this character that you want me to know?
I think that's everything...here's hoping this entry's just as good!

YOU AS A PLAYER:
Why do you want to do this campaign?
Azlanti lore in Starfinder is curious to me and this seems like it could be a prefect campaign for a spy character. None of the other Starfinder campaigns really seem that a spy based character would fit well. Also, word has it you are a phenomenal GM...

What is your experience with PBP or Starfinder? Do you have a favorite prior adventure? Feel free to link to it if it was a PBP.
I am an avid php'er that loves to bring flavorful characters to the table. Flavor > Power

Are you able to keep up with 2-3 posts a day, barring occasional absences for cons, holidays, weddings, illness or real life? Do you promise to let us know when you think you might be busy or absent?
2-3 per day is great for me, and yes.

Are you okay with being botted to maintain pace, and do you have a botting spoiler? Would you be willing to help bot others?
Yes and yes.

Is there anything else I should know about you as a player?
I wish to play the game more than just 'win' it.

YOU AS A CHARACTER:
Tell me about your character’s background, personality and ambitions:
This can be 4-8 sentences of backstory, explaining who you are and where you came from.

Akiton was hit hard by starship developments throughout the galaxy. Since it fell to the wayside, crime moved in. Pon was born and raised in an area constantly fought over by two large criminal groups in Maro. It was this aspect that truly grew Pon into the grifter he is today. Luckily, Pon was at the right place at the right time (though he didn't think so at the time) when the Stewards came in and raided the gang hideout he was at. Because he was so young, a steward took pity on him and secreted him out of the raid if he swore to work to become a steward and make the Pact a safer place. Seeing an opportunity to get off of Akiton, Pon readily agreed. He was first sent to the Idari for the beginning of his training (they actually wanted to just calm him down). After that he got actually trained on Absalom Station.

The actual Pon is very serious and objective oriented. Though he has some sociopathic tendencies, he believes in the value of all life and people's general right to live in safety. That said, he has zero problems lying or manipulating to get to his goals or assignments. As for ambitions, he doesn't have any except to get better. His life is infinitely better since he left Akiton, so he's pretty happy.

What things do you do in Starship Combat?
Pon can fill any starship role, though some better than others.
What are some of your favorite things to do outside of combat?
Lie, cheat, and steal for the greater good. Also, anything necessary to make his current identity more believable and accomplish his mission.
What sorts of things do you like to do in combat?
Probably trick attack. I didn't necessarily gear this character for combat admittedly.
How did you meet Cedona, and why are you flying out to a backwater planet like Nakondis to see her again?

Pon had a mission job that seemed to have gone bust, as his target had slipped away to another planet without leaving behind any clues. He wwas about to admit defeat when Cedona contacted him with some information—his target's location. Pon apprehended his target and completed his mission without any difficulties. Cedona has provided Pon with unexpected but useful information from time to time ever since, and the two of them have become friends, although she hasn't ever revealed her information sources.

Pon has just finished a mission on Eox and was told to take a vacation. So, he looked up Cedona and decided to vacation a little while on Nakondis and help her out with the settlement efforts.

Today's the last day of submissions! They end February 1st, 2019 at 10pm CST!

Hey all... If you have time, can you give me 2 introductions?

How would you introduce yourself in a bar on Absalom Station to new crewmates?

How would you introduce yourself in a bar filled with off-duty Imperial Troops having a drink?

It's okay to include body language and actions in these!

Exo-Guardians

After a long and arduous day of activity, some laborers and guards from the station docks have wandered their way into the local drink hole to unwind and forget about their toils and labor. They wander in and see that the pub is fairly active on the outer-walls, but closer to the center-back table it is quiet, save for one individual.

At the table sits a crustacean style of life form; a Wrikreechee. While not the most rare of species, it is certainly uncommon on Absalom Station. Strapped to its chest appears to be a harness that has many wires and tubes that stretch into his arms, head, and lower body.

He sits idly staring at a plate of food that appears to be made of some kind of underwater vegetation. He is slowly taking bit by bit into his mouth, when a unseen, robotic humming voice says to him. "Observation: You have visitors approaching. Non-hostile." The wrikreechee looks up from its plate of vegetation, and while still chewing its food it stares blankly at the dock workers. He stares for the longest time, saying nothing and only chewing on his food.

The monitor on his chest has a sensory-eye that angles its camera towards the newcomers.

The sensory-eye focuses on the newcomers for a few moments before beginning to hum a robotic yet chipper voice. "Salutations: Greetings! I am LINGSTON and this is my companion. While his officially recognized designation is lost, he will respond to the title of 'Rush'. It is a pleasure to meet you."

The eye cursors up to Rush, who is still slowly chewing his food and not turning away from the newcomers. "Encouragement: They mean you no harm, Rush. You may return to your meal." The wrikreechee turns its head back towards its plate and resumes eating. "Appeal: You will have to forgive him, for he is suffering from traumatic damage caused 1.84 Human-Based years ago."

LINGSTON then seems to zoom in. "Observation: I notice you are members of the Imperial Army. Suffice it to say, we are pleased to be working with individuals who are able to keep the security level of Absalom in peak condition. Compliment: Without your dedicated work, I am certain that Absalom Station would not be functioning at its efficient level." The sensor then seems to zoom out as the focus opens more. "Invitation: Of course, you are more than welcome to take a seat along with Rush and myself."

Exo-Guardians

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The next day, Rush and LING are at the same pub, with Rush eating the same dish. After some time, a band of Exo-Guardians enter and head straight over to their table. Rush stops eating and looks up at them. Upon seeing their Starfinder Insignias, he visibly seems at ease. "Friends." The Wrikreechee blurts out loud.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

"Salutations: Greetings, fellow Starfinders. Confirmation: I have received the paperwork, and understand you with to recruit Rush and myself for your upcoming trek. Acceptance: We will be ready to assist at once. My technical advice to Rush, along with his talent of metal-working, should be able to adequately assist in any damages we may experience during our flight."

The sensory-eye shifts its zoom and angle several times, as if looking over everyone standing nearby them. "Observation: I see most of you are adequately equipped for combat should the situation come to that. Sarcastic Joke: Whatever would you do that for? Starfinders never get into trouble! Ha Ha Ha."

An exo-cortex mechanic where the AI is the more social of the two? Interesting!

Setting note: I now realize didn't specify which Empire I was referring to, and realize to my chagrin that there is more than one in the Starfinder setting. The Veskarium is an ally and trading partner that has indeed defended Absalom Station.

I'll let you use your imaginations as to what you guys choose for your vignettes here.

Thanks for giving me a bit of in person roleplay, Kyle, as I was having trouble grokking your character. This gives me a much better grasp of him!

You mean Azlant Imperial troops? In the context of meeting them on a captured planet?

That was what my initial thought was, yes.

:)

I'm sort of looking to see two very different contexts for how your character might act around others.

A very tall half-orc stands outside T.G.I. Fifthday looking through the windows. He looks a little out of place in this part of town, and frankly this century. He has on a set of glowing white armor, cape included, and sword that are very nicely made but look like something an actor would wear on the set of a show about ancient Golarion knights.

He finally decides to enter.

The half-orc peers around the room and finds the people he's here to meet. He takes a deep breath and heads their way. A few of the others nod to him when he arrives and they all start introducing themselves. He gets lost in his own thoughts and almost misses his turn to give his name. "I am Prince Dali-" he sighs, exasperated with himself before continuing, "Dalinar Theodrin, not a prince anymore. I will warn you now, so that we don't have to have words later, that I am not amused by anyone who thinks it's funny to refer to me as 'your highness' or any of that nonsense."

-------------------------------------------------------------

Dalinar and the rest of the crew are sitting in a booth at some bar after finishing the job. Despite his hard words earlier everyone is having a good time. He's sitting a little more stifly than the rest of the crew but he's chuckling along with the stories all the same.

Suddenly the door bursts open as some Azlant soldiers walk in. The Starfinders are all shocked to see that apparently this little outpost planet had been subjugated by the empire without the Pact Worlds knowing. As the soldiers walk through the bar being obnoxious all of the locals begin staring into their drinks.

When the soldiers notice a half-orc in the bar they make their way over. They begin berating him for being an imperfect race. He tries to let it slide but eventually they say something that strikes a nerve. He bursts from his seat and leans over the table with nostrils flaring and murder in his eyes. His crewmates try to convince him to let it go. After a few tense moments he gets control of himself and returns to his seat. The azlanti soldiers give one more insult but move on. The rest of the crew tries to convince Dalinar that they should leave. "I won't let them run me out of here," he says stubbornly.

The Starfinders nervously go back to their drinks as the soldiers give the bar tender their orders. Then the soldiers notice another patron, one of a race Dalinar doesn't recognize. She is a small furry thing with six arms. The azlantis start herassing her next. Dalinar quietly says, "Let's go." Relieved, his new friends slide out of their booth and head towards the door. As soon as Dalinar stands he makes his way towards the soldiers cracking his knuckles.

Those were really nice vignettes, Dalinar! Thank you so much for submitting them! Can you tell me more about the 'Royalty' thing in your backstory? I just peeked at your backstory, but how does the Royalty and Icon interact with someone who is trying to escape the baggage of his royal past?

Hmm

PS For those who expressed interest but haven't yet submitted an application, is there anyone other than Curaigh and Wei Ji that I am waiting for?

At the bar with some new mates:
How would you introduce yourself in a bar on Absalom Station to new crewmates?

A young human man spins his stool at the bar around and leans back, propping his elbows up on the counter behind him. His flowing auburn locks drape down across his shoulders and frame a chiseled jaw and cold, steely eyes. He leans back further, nodding a cool greeting to the trio of Skyfire Legion recruits that had just stepped into the establishment. He tosses his hair (like he's in a shampoo commercial) and graces them with a well-practiced smirk. He starts to raise a hand to greet them... but-

With only one elbow holding him up, the beautiful young man loses his balance on the stool. It tilts, sending him tumbling backward, unceremoniously knocking his head against the counter before depositing him mercilessly on the floor.

"Jeez- OWW- Gosh! Darn!"

He springs to his feet, face flushed and eyes darting in all directions. "Sorry! My bad. Totally my bad." He mumbles apologies to the people at the bar as he sets the stool right way up. "You know how it is-" He laughs nervously "Stools! They always get you, don't they!"

With that lame apology he flees to join the three Skyfire Legion recruits. "You, ugh, didn't see anything? Right? It's pretty dark in this bar. Oh, hi there, by the way." He extends a hand that rapidly morphs to remove the three extra fingers. "Prosper Starr, nice to meetcha."

His handshake is sweaty and extra enthusiastic.

At the bar with some bad dudes:
How would you introduce yourself in a bar filled with off-duty Imperial Troops having a drink?

Spotting the two dozen Azlanti Imperial troopers, Prosper stares at them wide eyed for a solid minute before whipping out a tiny booklet labeled 'Zo!'s Deception for Dummies'. The miniature plastic guidebook is bookmarked in at least three dozen places, and well-worn besides. He flips through it frantically before finding the page he needs. He does this all while standing in the middle of the bar's aisle.

With a gulp, he pockets the book and heads straight to the bathroom, where he rapidly transforms his appearance. Seconds later, the bathroom door swings open to reveal a middle-aged, snooty looking human man with the close-cropped hair of an Azlanti Imperial Fleet trooper. He strides, stiff backed, to the bar, where he takes a seat next to a young trooper.

"I'll have what he's having." His voice comes out in an Azlanti drawl as he points to the drink his neighbor is holding. Once his own drink arrives, he leans over it and looks at his neighbor. "How long you been with the force, kid?"

...

His attempt to play the role of a veteran trooper and gather some information undercover goes well for about 6 seconds, until an officer from a table away looks at him with an appraising stare. Prosper cuts his current sentence short. "Well, good luck out there slayin' those Starfounders, or whatever they're called. I'm, uh, outta here." He pats the recruit on the back, jumps off his chair, and runs out of the establishment before anyone can apprehend him.

Laughing out loud, Cellion!

Thank you so much for these insights to your character!

I sure can. He's not trying to break away from his past entirely, only parts of it. He stood up to his father in an attempt to break the chain of spoiled narcissists being in charge. I had him stutter over calling himself a Prince above not because he doesn't think of himself as one, he does. He was just thrown out of town and disowned so he could get himself in trouble by claiming he's still the prince. He also wants to spend some time following in his ancestor's footsteps travelling around as a regular Joe to see what it's like and to learn how to be a good leader instead of people following him just because they think they have to. His full plan is to grow as a person and to gain some notoriety as the disposed Prince of New Gremaine so that he can return home with some support to depose his parents and take over as a benevolent leader, and maybe even end the monarchy.

I had to really think about how to make profession royalty make sense. My thoughts were that some of the people back home send him some money now and then to help him. And maybe as he goes along he could start a vlog or something chronicling his story that brings in some credits. That's really more for the society version than for this AP though.

Standing outside the bar, Nosro reminisces about the countless bar fights he’s has to break up on his more humble agricultural ring. He know that this time will be different, but he is not sure why. Checking the hilt of his weapon is closely fastened beside him, he passes had over the inscriptions. They glow a dull blue - a good sign, he thinks. Nodding to himself slightly, he steps through to what he realises will be the next chapter of his life.

Walking inside the bar, he scans the area for his potential new crew. They aren’t hard to miss, he thinks, just look for stand outs, out casts, who doesn’t belong. Realising he has come to the right, maybe, place he aproaches them. He stands an arms length from the group for a moment listening and deciding what to do, then stemos forward. ”Hey everyone. Are you the group that was tasked to the Nakondis expedition. Heh - it’s just like Cedona to put a team like this together. I’m Nosro, by the way. Nosro Ensigmo, of the AGR-II district. Well met.” he tries to I teuduce himself by making slight similarities between the group, since, well - these are all strangers.

Staggered by the introductions from the other crew, he manages to mumble. Rush, was it? And Dalinar, eh? What sorts of drinks do they have around here? If we are to make this leep together - why not have a drink first? and he hand waves over the bar maid with the menu to have a quick browse.

Ill post the other intro in an hour or so, if I’m allowed to. It’s my partners birthday today. So I’m trying my best to multi task.

Parner's birthday comes first! Besides....There will be good players who will entirely miss that I did this call out, and only check back after 10pm tonight. So submitting one of these things is not a requirement. Just an opportunity to give me a bit more insight into your characters. It's already helped me with a few of the characters that I was having trouble grasping.

Wish your significant other a lovely new year!

SPEAKING OF WHICH... I myself am heading offline as I will be GMing Dead Sun for my face to face group in about hour! See you all later!

Absalom station :

Wint bounces up to the table, waving his arms (all 6 of them) excitedly as he talks. While he has several weapons and is wearing second skin armour he doesn't appear the slightest bit threatening. The following assumes none of the characters are a Vesk

"Hello there. My name is Wint. I'm so happy to meet all of you. I think we're all going to be on the same ship, right? I'm REALLY happy to see all of you. So, I am good at piloting. Or I can shoot the guns. But what I REALLY do really well is to clean up and organize the ship! By the time we get where we're going it should be gleaming! Who are you? What do you do?"

Imperial troops

Wint heads into a bar, planning on meeting up with a contact, and sees that the bar is filled with Imperial Troops.

"Troops!! I should leave! Can't let them notice me. Wait, I need to meet that contact"

Wint then tries to get to the bar to ask about the contact. He does this as unobtrusively as possible, trying not to be noticed.

Unfortunately, one of the Imperial troops sees him and deciding on a bit of sport, gets in Wints way

Wint stammers
"Uh, um, uh. Sorry sir. Could I please get by you and get to the bar? I'm not doing anything. Honest. Just here for a drink. Can I buy you one too? You look thirsty"

Introduction to Imperial Troopers...

He sees the group acting nervously as the Green-armored Imperial Troopers walk into the space. Nosro observes them for a moment, before paying closer attention to his friends. Why are they so on edge? They are just soldiers.... It's fine everyone. They are just soldiers. They follow rules and traditions like the rest of us. Besides, they are probably off duty, they won't mind if we by them a drink! We need the information they have. An good attempt at calming everyone's nerves, he thinks. His attention falls back to his sword, which begins to vibrate slightly on his side. He looks down to see a strange yellow hue emanate from the intricate runes on the weapon. Hesitation. Anxiety? Theirs, or mine? The thoughts run through his head, but he doesn't let them take over. He focuses for a moment, then asks his friends to follow him up for moral support.

As he approaches the off-duty troopers, he puts a bit of his undershirt over his weapon to stop the glow from being too obvious. He taps one of them on the shoulder. Hey there! My friends an I were wondering if we could get you a drink. We're off duty, as they say. Part of the Nakondis collective trying to keep the peace between locals. Mind sharing some stories with us? We're all equals here, at the end of the day. Freedom is what is most important, don't you think? He doesn't realise what he's done as his weapon begins to vibrate even more sporadically. Not good. I didn't do good... he thinks as he pushes down on his longsword to keep it at the ready.

Pon > Crewmates:
A human businessman in business attire sits alone at a table in the corner nursing a drink. His brown, parted haircut looks slightly disheveled and his tie has been loosened from around his neck. His jacket hangs from the back of his chair, which he sits in with a very reclined posture. As he sips his drink he looks around the room, though he doesn't seem to be actually paying attention to anything as he sweeps the room with his eyes. After a sweep he looks back to his drink for a little while before sipping again.

A wrickwreechee with an AI. A half-orc with family issues. A shapechanager of some sort. Some sort of burly human. A skittermander. This must be them, Pon thinks to himself as he looks at the glass with a little liquid left. He stands up, puts his jacket back on, grabs the glass, and finishes off the liquid. He then wobbly semi-slams the glass back onto the table and staggers slightly as he walks out of the establishment.

Vesk bouncer. Family of halfings on the left a the table next to the door...

The tipsy businessman walks out of the bar and then around the corner and down the street a little ways before turning into an alley between some buildings. He stumbles down the alley and then turns left as the alley intersects with another. Instantly the tipsy staggering walk is gone and he is walking quite normally. He reaches up to his collar and pops it, as he does so a wave of digital hexes starts at the collar and moves down across his clothes as the entire outfit seems to completely change into, what looks like an engineer's jumpsuit. As the change is happening, the man's hair is shifting from brown to black and his skin is slowly shifting from the normal human peachy color to a deep red. While these two changes are occurring, the man bends down and opens a tool bag that appears to have just been sitting there and begins rifling through it.

Akitonian mechanic...from... as he is thinking this he sorts through three personal comm units and selects one with a star transport as a background picture. He then pockets the comm unit, closes the bag, and hefts it onto his shoulder and begins walking back the way he came. His stride this time is one of unease and nervousness. Before he exits the alley he pulls out the comm unit and takes a selfie.

Alright, ready to go.

He makes his way back into the bar and looks around nervously. His gaze lingers on the vesk bouncer and he backs up all the way into a table. The drinks rock precariously at a table of halflings but none of them tip. He quickly turns to face the table, "Oh..I-I'm sorry. So sorry. i didn't mean to...Is e-everything alright?" he asks nervously with his hands in front of him. Though the halflings are irritated, as nothing actually happened, they just give placative responses and Pon turns to the bar where the group is gathered. He walks up to the bar on one side of the gathering. "A-a..uh..water please," he orders nervously. "Gosh! Where am i going to find a group going to Nakondis in this crowded bar?" he says to himself as he begins drinking his water awkwardly.

Assuming they hear and someone speaks up..

"Oh goodness, great!" he says nervously and offers a shaky hand for a shake. "I didn't know what I was going to do. I'm Frin. My job is to make sure we get from point A to point B and back again." After he says this he shakes his bag and the jingling from tools can be heard.

Well that ended up longer than I expected.

Pon > Imperials:

I'm going to operate under the assumption that Pon knows Azlanti if he is in a bar filled with off-duty, lots them.

A human wearing the jumpsuit of a mechanic enters the bar and gives the patrons a quick scan. $&%# Azlanti. He quickly lowers his head, goes to the bar, orders a water, and finds an unoccupied table (preferably in a corner). He drops his bag next to the table and it jingles a little. He then sits at the table, grabs his drink in one hand, and closes his eyes for a while. As his eyes are closed he sips on his water. About 10 minutes later, he opens his eyes and, where once there were brown irises, there are now purple irises. He stand up, having finished his water and goes back up to the bar.

In Azlanti, "Strength of the Empire!" he shouts. "It is not lost on me the fact that your heroic role is fraught with danger, while mine is relatively safe! Those aliens, a I right!? As a thank you for risking your lives, I want you to have a drink on me! My name is Aldrox, and you all are my heroes! Thank you!"

After giving that rally, Pon then chats with the troopers about their troubles, their jobs, what they do, where they are stationed. Asking general prying questions but masking it amidst commiseration.

Exo-Guardians

Absalom Station
Zagrea checks herself in the bathroom mirror a bit before returning to the bar. White hair frames her moon-like face, marred by the large, jagged scar on one side. She was no stranger to using makeup to add a little color and accentuate her human features, but it always took too much to cover that thing up. "No big deal, not here," she thinks. She'd be among friends tonight. She smooths her outfit, and glowers a bit at her outfit. A professional-looking shirt and vest that hugged her curves well certainly wasn't BAD, but a social gathering like this seemed more for dresses, and it was always hard to find plus-sized dresses she could afford.

She steps out and approaches the group of Starfinders, waving at them to announce her arrival.

"Hey, gang!" she calls as she takes a seat. She notices some new faces in the group, likely fresh from their Commencement. "Glad to see some new Starfinders tonight. I'm Zagrea, Zagrea Tannere. I'm the pilot of the Dwimmerlaik. You guys ordered any apps? I can chip in for some to share!"
Occupied Cantina
Sitting at an unassuming table near the corner of the bar, Zagrea sips a cocktail of Diaspora Daredevil and kasathan whiskey from a highball glass, occasionally tapping at the strategy game on her comm unit. She hoped it would make her look unassuming and unimportant to the obnoxious band of soldiers at the bar. "In uniform but off duty," she thinks. "Clearly trying to scare and impress the locals into getting what they want."

Her attempts to go unnoticed appear to fail, as one of the nastiest-looking ones swaggers over. What he said wasn't important. He'd spotted her pallor and the dark veins on her arm. She knew the routine creeps like him would go through. Abomination, fat***, freak, she'd heard it all before. Perversion of the perfect human form was a new one, though.

"Look, I'm just here to enjoy this drink, and leave. If you want me gone, I'll be gone in a moment. If you insist on keeping this up, then I'm going to humiliate you in front of your friends, and then I'm going to leave. Your choice, Aeon-sploiter."

He takes it about as well as she expects, and she minimizes the game before picking up her drink. Before he can finish the swing he takes at her, however, she snaps her fingers with a small flash of green light and the table in front of her collapses into a pile of scrap metal and...electronics? Where did those come from? Then she waves her hand and says words that the soldier barely understands before she grabs a handy rod in the pile and pulls out a wicked-looking sword made of circuit-boards and metal shards, an s-shaped hilt forming over her hand and one side of the blade wickedly serrated. She swings the flat of it at the soldier's head and knocks him to the side. The impact of the floor and the alcohol he's already had do the rest.

She snaps a picture of him using her comm and finishes her drink.

"I think your commanding officer will be very interested in this. Drunk and disorderly in uniform, what a shame."

The other soldiers are starting to get angry, but they're silenced by a cry of "That's enough!" from the bartender.

"He started it and she defended herself. You run this town now, but this is still my bar and I still won't have brawls in here!"

Zagrea smiles a bit, pleased she's helped this man find his courage. The soldiers grumble and return to their drinks while she tosses the bartender a cred chit.

"Sorry about the mess."

She exits the bar and begins to make for the docking bay she'd parked the Dwimmerlaik at. Knowing that crowd, they'd be after her for revenge the moment they left the bar, and she didn't like those odds.

YOU AS A PLAYER:
Why do you want to do this campaign? I want to explore more of the Starfinder setting. . Both PbP a AP allow for the in depth character development that I like while other games do not. I have been wanting to get a game with HMM since she/you became our VC. I have had less luck with APs on PbP, but GM HMM can do it and the frequent posting can help as well.

What is your experience with PBP or Starfinder? Do you have a favorite prior adventure? Feel free to link to it if it was a PBP. [url=https://paizo.com/threads/rzs2hxth?False-Hope-The-Discussion#17]My first PbP,[/b] was over a decade ago. I have been doing it ever since. :) My first experience with Starfinder was with HMM, at the PaizoCon where it was only available as a pre-test. I have only gotten to play my own -701 three times, (though pre-gens have gotten him to level 4 already.)

Are you able to keep up with 2-3 posts a day, barring occasional absences for cons, holidays, weddings, illness or real life? Do you promise to let us know when you think you might be busy or absent? Aye, So Say We All.

Are you okay with being botted to maintain pace, and do you have a botting spoiler? Would you be willing to help bot others? Aye, not yet, & of course.

Is there anything else I should know about you as a player? I am all about the game, making it fun for others. I have a bit of experience on the design side, so tend to not get too involved in the mechanics when playing, especially if the story can be told without them. I use smiley’s a lot.

YOU AS A CHARACTER:
Tell me about your character’s background, personality and ambitions:
This can be 4-8 sentences of backstory, explaining who you are and where you came from.
Silent Elligal started life in the crowded Qidel. The concentration of Strix in the single spire felt confining to him: too many people talking too loudly too closely. It took more than an year of harvesting Fullbright potatoes before he could afford a ticket to leave, and then only because he indentured to a large cruise ship cleaning radiation in the drive room. The large concentration of people on a single ship in the vastness of space again felt like they were closing in on him. Which should have been the first clue that something else was up.
For many people, he was the first Strix they met. They wanted to know about on life in Qidel and often pressed him about strange rumors. Soon every look he got, the small double-take on seeing a strix, came with shock, curiosity, and sometimes fear. Worse yet, he could feel the shock, curiosity and fear.

All the people around him were too loud and he withdrew into himself and learned to hide his presence as much as possible, earning the name ‘Silent Elligel.’ It stuck (and worsened) as he moved from campus cook to rickshaw driver.

What things do you do in Starship Combat?
Some engineering, a fair amount of inspiring.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of combat?
Seeking the message behind the noise. People talk, but not as loudly as they think.

What sorts of things do you like to do in combat?
Silent Elligel likes to disrupt, distract and diffuse situations in combat (confusion, feint, charm, readied counters).

How did you meet Cedona, and why are you flying out to a backwater planet like Nakondis to see her again?
Cedona was very neighborly and didn’t let Elligel hide in his apartment across the hall, yet she respected his privacy. Her patience showed him how to balance the noise with moments of quiet and made life in the big city much easier. She introduced him to Cubby, her pet whose mental state was mewing in a city of shouting. Cedona first introduced Elligel to the concept of mind magic and how the balance of quiet and noise was a good sign he had the talent. She encouraged him to meditate and develop these skills and introduced him to a friend a priestess of Hylax. After returning from a retreat for the first peaceful week of his life that Cedona announced her retirement. Elligel put him onto the path of peace and recent graduation that he heard of her disappearance.

Is your full character sheet in your profile yet? No, but I have the template and have made the hard choices (spells, attributes, feat: squoks companion (improved feint; presuming everyone wants a squoks.) but I found this recruitment pretty late.

Is there anything else about this character that you want me to know? Like Violet from the Incredibles, He is used to be unseen and is still learning confidence in his abilities.

Sorry for the late entry, I hope you have an easy time choosing & I understand Silent Elligel is likely not your best candidate.

Absalom Station

A slightly gangley nuar dressed in well patched and mended environmental suit looks around the bar. Partially look for the his contacts and partially taking look at other random items in the room. With a sign of notice he moves and sits down at a table with a vesk and ysoki that seem to be arguing or haggling over some piece of salvage. The vesk and ysoki take a while to notice the newcomer to their debate as Minos starts fiddling with the object in question. The ysoki starts to chatter and the vesk is none too pleased. But Minos pulls out some type of cable and connects to the device. It starts to glow and hum a soft tune. The Vesk stops his fist. And listens then starts to hum a long. At that point the ysoki is about to say something to Minos when a server spills a drink on the humming orb. Which causes it to glow and the tune to increase in tempo. The Vesk begins to "dance" and pushes Minos to the side.

Satisfied that he found a use for that cable he found four years ago, he spins in place only to find himself at the table of his next crew. "Ah yes. Veskerium lullaby orbs are quite hard to come by. But that is where we are not going? Or have been? Or will be? In time we shall get there. Well when it is meant to be there. In the end all things are connected."

Imperial Troops

"Focus!" Minos muttered to himself. But it was all, as usual just a game. His contact said that the trooper value punctuality. Minos was over an hour late. But it seems that the troopers were still there. Without hesitation, he strides up. "Sargent Blather, yes? Dela, I mean Commander Pasqual said that you were expecting me? Well not me per se. But the Guide. But that is me, or I am a guide. finder of way. Searcher of lost things. Connector of Connections. I found this dive. And lovely place it is with all its glory and and medal and war things. Yes. But what is it with soldiers and naming bars 'favorite color death.' Though each culture does have a interesting color for death. One can find out a lot about the colors of their death. Take for instance a particular ysoki tribe I encountered, they had the mauve death. And they were in a fierce fued with those that followed the puce death. But the blue-green dived is the sign of a fairly advance culture."

The Sargent has seen many battles in the past but has never suffered such a barrage of words that the nuar spoke. She held her hand up. "Yes we need the guide. Pray you can also know when not to speak."

This was a really tough decision, as there were so many awesome characters. I wanted to take one person brand new to PBP, so I picked Professor Spectrum Silvervanes for that slot. (Also, selfishly, it lets me see a Xaursi.) I then picked a group that I thought would bring different things to the roleplay and balance fairly well.

I want to thank everyone who submitted and who made such a tough choice for this GM!

★ --- ★ --- ★ --- ★

My picks:

Prosper Starr aka Polypus Sparglefit. (Cellion). Astrazoan Xenoseeker Envoy Skyfire Centurion
Rush Ling. (Kyle Worg). Wrikichee Death-Touched Mechanic Skyfire Centurion
Dalinar Theodrin. (Eggelis). Half-orc Icon Solarian
Professor Spectrum “Spec” Silvervanes. (Bryan Kurpierz). Oso Xaursi Scholar Overlord Mystic
Pon. (Saashaa). Human Tempered Pilgrim Spy Operative Steward Infiltrator
Wint. (Paul Jackson). Skittermander Ace Pilot Ghost Operative

Go ahead and dot and delete gameplay. (Make a gameplay post, then delete it.) Then pop into discussion.

Alt/Backup should we get an early dropout or the party decides they're willing to go with a party of seven:
Minos. (Andrew Harasty). Nuar Xenoarcheologist Explorer Operative Starfinder Forerunner

Y'all made awesome characters. For those of you who did not make the cut, I really enjoyed each and every one of your creations. I hope that you take some of the ideas that went into them for Organized Play, or that you get into another game of Against the Aeon Throne.

Thank you so much for your time, your energy and your beautiful creativity!

Yours,
Hmm

  • The strix didn't lift the darkened glasses from his eyes as he entered the bar. Instead he left them there as he scanned the bar, so he could not make eye-contact with anyone. He spied the group with the insignia matching the new one on his arm sleeve. He mentally counted down from five before he pulled the glasses off and moved into the room. Head right in and everyone will assume you are a regular, try to put a face to the name. Stand too long and everyone will assume you are lost or worse the law. Either way they would stare too long for his comfort.

"Hello, thanks for inviting me. Pleasure to meet everyone. I am Elligel," he said. He took the names of the rest in, trying to place them back into their context of the ship. He tried not to listen to anything not said, but frankly it would be easier to remember them if he did.

He slid into an empty seat, choosing the empty one next to the gregarious member, remembering to smile and nod without saying anything. This put him facing the wall, which was less likely to make eye contact than anyone new approaching the table would. 'Never mind he door, the crew will be watching it. I will just watch them. He lifted his drink in thanks and listened as the others conversed.

"Hello. One of those thank you," he says pointing to a dark red wine and sliding into an empty seat at the bar. The bar offered seats next to each other, so there was no chance anyone would sit across from him, or behind either. Two people, plus the bartender, at max.

The tension grew as conversations started shouting over one another. Didn't they know it was like traffic? No one would have to out-speed the others if everyone would just go the same speed. He pulled out earbuds and a data-pad. Nothing is was playing, but he pretended to drum a beat. He was good at drumming, but mostly the movement was meant to hide the shaking of his hands.

    lol

You must have posted while I was typing, as the choices weren't there when I started. It was good practice though & kept me at my daily word count :)

For everyone else, the selections are three posts up.

Thanks HMM & good luck everyone!
