Background:

Like all of his people, Wint lives to serve. And it is the history of that service that has brought him to the Starfinder Society.

Very soon after he matured into an adult, he came to the attention of a Vesk named Jataralisk. Wint was, even by Skittermander standards, remarkably agile and charming. Just what Jataralisk needed in order to get an agent into a casino run by his rival.

And so Jataralisk trained Wint to be stealthy, to be sneaky, to lie and charm others. In short, to be an operative.

This was successful to an extent. He easily managed to enter the casino, posing as a moderately successful Skittermander. He easily managed to sneak by the guards and into the office. With some difficulty he manged to find and retrieve the files that he was sent to get.

Wints life would likely be very different today if only Jataralisk had given him clearer instructions. He'd been told to go into the casino openly, to then sneak into the office, to find the files, and then scan and email the files to him. All of which he did.

But then he went to talk to the casino management. Clearly he needed to help them. They had just had vital information stolen from them. Their security system had glaring holes in it. They NEEDED his help.

It has always seemed unfair to Wint that they reacted as badly as they did. For some reason, they blamed him for the theft. Even though all he had been trying to do was help!

Realizing that they were calling the police and realizing that the police were likely to be as shortsighted as the casino owners Wint fled. Fortunately for him, he managed to slip onto a starship without detection. The starship, The Forethought, belonged to the Starfinder Society.

It wasn't long before the crew discovered his presence. The fact that he'd cleaned all of their dishes one night might have contributed to that discovery.

Fortunately for Wint, they were far more amused by his presence than upset. They quickly adopted him as a kind of mascot. The pilot of the ship, a human woman named Sarah, became his particular mentor. It was she who first taught him how to pilot a starship.

Wint has never looked back since. He has a natural aptitude with any and all kinds of vehicles and starships and very quickly grew into a competent, if still very inexperienced, pilot.

Wint traveled with the crew of the Forethought for some months. But when the great expedition to the Scoured Stars was organized it was thought to be far too dangerous for a young Skittermander and Wint was left behind at the Spire on Absalom Station.

Since then, he has helped the Starfinder Society in various routine tasks. He has also done a little bit of piloting around the system. And, of course, he has made many friends outside of the society including Cedona.

Description:

Wint grew up close to the equator on Vesk-3 and so has short soft dark blue fur that many people find very pleasant to rub and stroke. Even the occasional Vesk has been known to succumb to the temptation of rubbing his belly.

Wint is a young and naive Skittermander who has not been blessed with great intelligence. He does NOT yet understand much of the way that the world works and is sometimes nearly overwhelmed by the strangeness of it all.

He is, of course, unfailingly charming and helpful. Or at least that is how he would describe himself.

Bot Me!:

Wint tends to hang back in combat, shooting from cover. He'll almost always try and get a trick attack, usually by hiding but he is willing to use bluff if the situation demands it.

The exception to hanging back is if a friend is in danger OR if a melee character ASKS him to come into melee.

He knows that most characters are better at combat than he is and will tend to follow any orders given by anybody (the last one given wins)

If he knows he is going into combat he will draw LOTS of weapons (at least the 3 below)

Character Vignette - Getting caught as a stowaway:

After managing to sneak by the large armed woman at the airlock, Wint make it to the cargo bay without being noticed. He was trembling from fear.

"If I'm discovered, would they turn me over to the Vesk? Or perhaps just shoot me on the spot. If the stories he'd heard from the Vesk were true they'd surely eat me. I'm too young to die!"

These thoughts, and others, danced in his head as he found a place to hide behind some cargo containers. He lay down, certain that he'd be unable to get any rest.

To his surprise, several hours later he woke up. Cold. Scared. Hungry.

There wasn't much that he could do about the first 2 but he could do something about the last.

Very slowly, very carefully, he rose from his position and made sure that nobody was in the bay. He crept to the door and listened. When he heard nothing he opened the door and started exploring the ship, looking for the galley. The ship was dim, surely this meant that everybody would be asleep?

After what felt like hours but was only really a few minutes he found the galley. The very filthy galley with uncleaned dishes lying in the sink.

His first priority was finding some food that he could take back to his hiding spot. Some protein bars. A bottle or two of water. Nobody would miss those.

After finding those, however, he couldn't help himself
"I should get back. But this place is SO dirty. Who can live like this? They'll get ill. Or attract flies. Surely if I just clean it up a little they won't notice. Or they'll think one of them did it."

After cleaning up the galley, perhaps "just" a little more than was really wise, he returned to his hiding spot in the cargo bay. Bored, he soon went to sleep.

And woke up to the cold feel of a laser pistol held to his head.

"Don't shoot. Please don't shoot. I'm unarmed" he called as he opened his eyes.

Standing above him was a huge man, almost as big as Vesk. Behind her was a woman showing her teeth. Clearly, they meant to eat him!

The man spoke in a language he didn't recognize

We wouldn't know common at that point

"If I speak loudly and slowly they'll understand me!"

"Please. Do. Not. Shoot. Me"

The woman with the teeth then spoke. In absolutely atrocious Skittermander

"Who are you? Why are you stopping on the boat? Do you have the kitchen?"

"Better keep the words simple."
I replied
"I am Wwwwwwiiiiiinnnnnntttt. Vesk chasing me. I do not know why.
I do not understand kitchen. I clean kitchen. Take food. Hungry"

At that, the woman burst out laughing and talked to the big man.

She then turned to me
"If we do not kill you, you will cook for us, and a clean ship for food"

Relief washed over me. I'd survive. And all they wanted was my help.

"Yes, I cook. Clean ship. I'll do anything you ask for"

Character Vignette - Wint aggravates other crew member:

The enraged scream of Tarryn echoed throughout the ship.

"Who the F+$+ screwed up all my guns? Who thought putting POLISH on guns was a good idea? Wink, You are f$~~ing dead!!"

The scream woke Wint from a well deserved nap.

Realizing that the best way to help poor Tarryn right now was to hide (otherwise Tarryn might well do something that he'd surely regret later) Wint quickly ran to the cargo bay and hid himself.

But not before responding over the ships intercom
"Tarryn my friend. I was just helping! Your weapons weren't organized and they weren't polished. Obviously I had to clean them! I was just trying to help! The only thing I could find was Quicko Floor Polish. Was that the wrong thing to use? I am sorry! Don't worry, I'll fix things!"

For some reason, that heartfelt and sincere apology caused the rest of the crew to burst out laughing. Which enraged Tarryn even further.

"I swear I'm going to kill that fluffy piece of crap. NOBODY touches my guns!!. And NOBODY can really be stupid enough to put FLOOR POLISH inside a gun. NOBODY!!!!!. He does it deliberately!!"

It was probably fortunate for Wint that he was VERY good at hiding, that Tarryn was VERY bad at searching, and that 2 hours later the ship came out of the Drift to its destination.

From Recruitment:

I realized that there was stuff in the recruitment thread that I wanted to preserve. This seems like a good place :-)

YOU AS A PLAYER:
Why do you want to do this campaign?
This character was part of a fairly short lived Starfinder PBP and I hadn't yet really explored his potential. The idea of doing a short Adventure Path greatly appeals to me, the fact that it is short means that there is a good chance of experiencing the whole thing. And, quite frankly, I've found you to be a superb PBP GM and would love to play with you as a GM again

What is your experience with PBP or Starfinder? Do you have a favorite prior adventure? Feel free to link to it if it was a PBP.
About 2 years or so PBP experience here and elsewhere. My favourite prior adventure was definitely the Murder Of Crows (and follow ups).

Are you able to keep up with 2-3 posts a day, barring occasional absences for cons, holidays, weddings, illness or real life?
Sure. Note that some days I'll be away from my terminal for stretches of 6-8 hours so I can't guarantee to respond in much less time than that.

Do you promise to let us know when you think you might be busy or absent?
Absolutely

Are you okay with being botted to maintain pace, and do you have a botting spoiler?
Sure

Would you be willing to help bot others?
If you're ok with it, sure.

Is there anything else I should know about you as a player?
Nothing that comes to mind

YOU AS A CHARACTER:
Tell me about your character’s background, personality and ambitions:
Wint is a young and naive Skittermander who has not been blessed with great intelligence. He does NOT yet understand much of the way that the galaxy works and is sometimes nearly overwhelmed by the strangeness of it all.

He was born on Vesk-3 and was forced to flee that planet when his attempts to improve a Vesk casino owners security were not received well.

Fortunately for him, the ship that he stowed away on was owned by some Starfinders and, rather than spacing him, they more or less adopted him as a mascot. A mascot that is an excellent pilot and a fair gunner.

He is cheerful and LOVES to help others. Occasionally he even succeeds.

He dislikes violence but is, of course, quite good at it. He can be very, very sneaky when he wants to be. While he tries to tell the truth sometimes a small fib seems the most helpful thing for him to do

His greatest ambition is to actually become a member of the Starfinder Society. And to help people.

What things do you do in Starship Combat?
He is very good at both piloting and firing ships guns. He is actually fairly competent at the skills that a Captain needs but certainly is NOT at all a leader.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of combat?
He loves things around him to be clean and orderly and will happily volunteer to make everything clean and tidy.

He also just loves to talk to people, to find out what interests them.

And, of course, help people.

What sorts of things do you like to do in combat?
He never actually LIKES combat. Combat is scary and dangerous and people can get hurt. He is quite good at it, of course.

He'll generally try and find a good hiding spot or two, moving in and out of cover and shooting at people. When that doesn't work, he'll try and confuse them and shoot them. He will always have several weapons in hands at the same time so he is quite versatile.

How did you meet Cedona, and why are you flying out to a backwater planet like Nakondis to see her again?

Wint first met Cedona when she helped protect him from some bullies who hadn't appreciated having their shoes shined while they were in a hover lift.

They became good friends, especially since Wint was quite willing to look after Cubber when Cedona was away. Cubber and Wint quickly became very good friends and when she went off to Nakondis Cedona left Wint with Cubber.

Cubber has recently had cubs (it wasn't Wints fault. REALLY!). And so, of course, Wint just HAS to go visit Cedona and show her the new grandchildren.

Is your full character sheet in your profile yet?
Yes

Is there anything else about this character that you want me to know?
He is only barely an adult and only 8 years old. I intend to play him as a bit slow and quite naive and somewhat childlike. Although 8 is an adult it still means that he has VERY little life experience
