The City of Rooftopolis...!

The clutches of an underground organization known as Level 426 nearly choked the life from this once-bustling metropolis. But thanks to a band of mysterious heroes, a devastating act of terror was foiled and the Lv.426 kingpin was forced to rereat to the sewers! Peace and prosperity returned to Rooftopolis!

Knowing that evil is not found in one convenient location—it is everywhere!—the awesome warriors took flight to other continents and planes, where adventure awaits, and justice is sure to prevail!

Meanwhile...

The citizens of Rooftopolis have returned to old habits of looking over shoulders, sleeping with one eye open, packing heat or cold steel, for it is only a matter of time before a new callous upstart fills the crime-world's gaping void—before new scum bubbles from the septic labyrinth—before domant killer instinct emerge from a seemingly-normal mind like a bat out of hell! It hungers for innocent blood! Who can stop it!

Only YOU can, Super Crime Fighter...

...two.

"Best ye catch a breath or three, Hatman," the heroine casually says to the rooftops. She then turns to the heroes before her.

"Oh, don't ye mind our new announcer, Ladies and Gents..."

Or just gents? Am I the only lady 'round here? And here I was thinking I'd be starting meself a Ladies' League o' Justice. Well, one dream at a time, Addy.

"It's time we give our Rooftopolis round table a reboot, 'cause I don't know about ye fellas, but I'm ready to give the city's next criminal and-or monster a reboot in the keister—and me boots got four inch heels, mind ye!

"Unfortunately, me heels are off to me studio. Me secret identity ain't gonna maintain itself, now is it?" Clacking down the sidewalk, the Vermilion Vixen turns once more and says, "Ye boys have fun, but save a bag or two o' scum for me this time, eh?"

She then disappears down a dark alley. Somewhere down the road, amidst the crowd, are the bushy red girls of fashion designer Addison Lane.

Er... I meant bushy red CURLS. (!!)

But our heroes pay no mind to mild-mannered fashionista Addison Lane, for they have a job to do, and that job is...

Stepping out of narrator voice...

...to discuss the reboot!

...and talking like normal now.

Welcome back! And welcome, new guy! Rules and Char-Gen are same as before. I'll copy-paste the rules, but as a reminder, the first two are:

#1. PCs don't die.
#2. The GM doesn't play.

So aside from trying her voice on, it seems VV needs to wait another episode. We'll try this game as a small, closed group. Promote your characters to Lv.5 and recklessly spend your starting gold:

• New guy: you have 10,000g!

• Returning hero: you have a choice:
> (a) keep what you started the original game with, plus another 7000g,
> (b) or clear your inventory of all but your undies, and start with 10,000g!

So much for talking normal.

Hiya! Give me a few days and I should have Dr. Mavrin ready!(at least on paper)

I love the avatar! I'm not sure how much damage an alchemist inflicts, but I have a feeling every pairing will be two glass cannons! I suppose high-HP monsters with low damage dice will work, and we should do okay vs. gangs of mooks.

RP-wise, I'm hoping for a game in which players talk to each other. I think it helps if the characters have a reason to be together, and here's my thought on a simple premise:

Cal is one of the heroes known for bringing Lv.426 down. Marv and Addy want to join Brother Seamus' peace-keeping/crime-fighting team. Each gets to go on patrol, effectively proving their worth. All characters will be equal in level and wealth, but so far only Cal has proven himself to the benefactor who funds our operation.

Would you like to start the game as your characters are on-patrol? Perhaps all is peaceful until a Sending Stone message leads you to a crime scene or crime in progress. (I already have an opening scene in mind.)

...

As for GM'ing-rotation, how's this order?
• me now
• Turlin next
• Johnny third
• then back to me unless we have a fourth person

Hi!

Hoping to have some free time... Some time... To join in with the fun times.

(^_^)

Season's greeting and best wishes to every one.

I kinda like the idea of having a little RP time on patol before stopping or investigating a crime!

I wanted to ask, will we have some sort of HQ or home base to work out from? If so I thought using Dr. Mavrin's house/lab could be fun or A guild office like thing set up by Brother Seamus.

I would like to say I read little snippets of the last campaign, and you all seem like a very fun group of people, so I really do feel like this campaign is going to be amazing!

As for the GMing order I'd be willing to do second or third!

P.S. I'm willing to have Marv connected to other PC's in some other way if you guys are interested! Maybe he's tea friends with Addy, or something?

How will the reboot work? Will it be a continuation or re-do of the previous arc?

Caledon Whitetree wrote:

I was under the impression it was a continuation...

It is, in the sense that Cal defeated the Froghemoth. Four-Eyed Jack (who Cal knows of but never actually met) might make a cameo, but the bale I had planned should happen later.

Yeah, I won't re-do a story. No even one from a past game none of you played. I like to have a fresh new adventure every time.

...

As for a Marv-Addy tie, she is a fashion designer. Perhaps she designed his costume? Tea works too, though. She would have reason to talk to local herbalists to try and understand the weird plant she was given. (Her familiar starts as a petrifern.)

I'm also thinking we could have one GM step out (setting a post-battle scene before doing so—maybe at a tea house?) and let all characters RP briefly between adventures until the next GM steps in.

But for the game-start, I'll keep Addy out of it and set a scene for the patrol duty. (I got an idea for a scenario while reading a classic to my daughters.) Obviously, it should feel like a routine thing, and of course it will not be.

...

Do we need to discuss anything more, or shall I just start? I'm also okay with holding off until Dr. Marvin is ready—or starting the game, but keeping it RP-only until Dr. Marvin's stats and such are ready.

Is sunset going to join us on this crusade?

I'm guessing Sunset will jump back in post-holiday. If he can make it sooner, that's fine.

Well I'm working on Dr. Mavrin right now but I'd love it if we started right now! Keeping it RP for now,of course!

No Capes!

Caledon is something of a clothes horse. This could work for both characters. What if Addy either owns or is the primary designer for the Kingsman haberdashery?

I'm still figuring out what feats I want but we can start. My wife might like to join us, probably with a rogue.

Male Human Alchemist lv. 5

I think Dr. Mavrin has tea with Addy but actually knows very little about her and knows nothing about VV

As for Cal couldn't really find any thing about his backstory but maybe Dr. Mavrin read about Cal in the paper?

@Johnny.
• Addy can't make those special hats, but she can certainly design them.
• Your wife is welcome to join!

@Turlin,
• Addy is kind of a depressing young woman who wears a stone flower in her hair. At the tea house, she tends to sketch women's figures, often clothing grayish bodies in colored-pencil outfits.
• VV is unknown. Addy doesn't talk about this persona.
• Yes, you would know of Caledon's work in the paper.

Okay I got it!

Dr. Mavrin is tea buddys with Addy. Well buddys is a strong term... They sit together because they both sit on the quietest side of the room. They have barely spoken to each other except for a brief introduction, some "Hello"s and "Goodbye"s and the occasional "Pass the sugar please". Addy often sees the doctor snuffing powder out a box, putting odd liquids in his tea, writing long formulas in a small notebook, and suddenly leaving at a brisk pace. Dr. Mavrin sees "Madam Lane" as a hard-working sensible woman. He doesn't see her as sad but logical, that is, why pretend to be happy if you have little to be happy about?

Male Human Alchemist lv. 5

Hey! Cal, are you still using the backstory I found in your posts? If you are, I thought maybe Dr. Mavrin knew Jenni Thatcher? of course neither would know the other knew her :). I really like the backstory and i do hope to connect it with this campaign when it's my turn to GM. Addy's story as well!

In my head I'd dropped that background when I changed my traits and alignment, but if you want we can keep it or part of it. We can even change it fit better with the story you want.

Gameplay thread is open for player-only RP. You can be on patrol (crowded/festive streets or Snowberry Hills), or in a tea house having a warm beverage before you patrol Snowberry Hills.

The crowds in the street are below Snowberry Hills, and it is not snowing there. Only Snowberry is currently experiencing snow, or any form of precipitation.

Did you have an idea for a new backstory?

If not I was thinking Jenni could be Dr. Mavrin's neice. As for the campaign, I don't really want to settle on something ( I mean, there is the other players story! ) But I like to re use characters so alot of the characters you meet will be reoccurring. I was also going to have a cult, so maybe Jenni has something to do with that?

I just spent an whole half hour typing out a epic intro for Marv and then accidentally deleted it... WHY GOD? WHY?!?

Ah, yes... Paizo and it's weird post-eating "back-tracking" error. I've learned to type stuff in a Google Doc or Notes app, or select-all-copy before posting.

And I still forget sometimes and end up hating myself.

@Johnny, got your PM! Looking forward to your GM'ing round, if that's a hint of the plan. Best of all, I'll have my diminutive sidekick at Lv.7, in case there's a benefit togoing in places where humans can't fit. Though normal rats are bigger than her, so...

@Both, the setting starts off holiday-themed. If you need something more to jump in, let me know. One thing I'll say now: Rooftopolis has been mostly peaceful. The few times patrolmen do get a call (via Send), it's nothing big. I plan to (for the RP-only bit) give you a nothing call or two. You might get something good out of the stops, depending how the RP goes.

I'll let you guys RP a bit and get a feel for your characters, but let me know if you want me to adjust the pacing (faster/slower).

Alright... I'm glad I picked the "holiday special" opener. I liked what it did for the imagery of the Dr. Marvin intro. I came up with the idea while reading A Christmas Carol to my daughters. I won't make the threat too blatant a connection, such as three ghosts, but I think we can have a bit of Christmas cheer.

I'll let player-only RP play out a little. @Johnny, if your wife joins us this episode, feel free to bring her into the game as if she is one of the newbies assigned to Cal.

I feel stupid for asking this but can you put ranks in non-class skills?

I finally stopped hemming and hawing and picked craft Wand and Wonderious items. At first I was really leaning toward improved initiative and maybe some metamagic but changed my mind. I think it my be more fun not to optimize and a spiked guantlet of training can grant improved initiative at a later date. Additionally, dazing burning hands seemed cool at first but after consideration wasn't as useful as most other level 3 spells.

With that I'm going to take the full inventory reboot.

For fluff purposes I'm going to retcon that the Blacktallow Sockhop et al purchased had zero charges left. It was essentially a mundane, but artisianly carved bit of wood. I'm also considering crafting a CL 5 wand of snowball which Caledon will chisten Crystalhue.

Scrolls are a big part of my plans. I'm purchasing several scrolls and adding to them the Whitetree Grimorie. I intendb that Caledon scribed several scrolls during the down time too.

Yes. However, you don't get the +3 bonus.

I believe yes for most. Off the top of my head, one exception is Spellcraft, which is only for magic-users.

Class skills get +3, so if alchemists don't have stealth (as an example), you could put ranks in the skill every level, but without the +3.

EDIT - Speaking of stealth, I just got ninja'd!

Male Human Alchemist lv. 5

Thanks! So if it says trained only you can't put ranks in them correct?
Unless of course they are a class skill?

@Cal,
Regardless of the explanation, you can start the reboot with a total of 10K in gold+items. (Could be you earned $$$ at Lv.3, then at Lv.4, you had your patrol duties and earned $$ and maybe used up some items/wands.)

Also, craft/scribe all you want. Anything you can craft as of Lv.5 you can have at crafting cost.

I didn't realize wizards get a bonus feat at Lv.5. Now I see why you had a tough decision. It's cool getting two feats at once, but I'll admit I overthink in those situations. That's partly why I dipped two levels in Brawler—so I won't gain feats and Vigilante Talents at the same time!

I thought skill ranks counted as training and trained only meant you can't use it unless you've invested skill points.

@VV My feat dilemma was compounded by the the bonus non-combat feats you've awarded us. With this build most of the feats would have been non-combat anyway.

With the above post I just wanted to explain my thought process.

Caledon Whitetree wrote:

Oh... you're right!

It appears there isn't a single skill that says you must be a certain class to obtain it—not even spellcraft explicitly requires you to be a caster, unless I missed something.

I think trained just means you have ranks in it... Like you can use untrained skills it's just you don't have a ranks boosts... Maybe...

Anyway Dr. Mavrin is nearly finished! Just gotta choose feats, buy equipment, and distribute skill ranks!

Alright guys, your boy Turlin got more annoying questions!

@VV
Are you planning for the first episode to be more RP based or combat based?

@both
Are you looking for a fast paced action packed game or a slower RP based game?

I ask these questions because I have two ideas for my episode (of course nothing is set in stone, these might get scraped depending on what happens in episode one) one of the being very RP based (I'm talking, like one or two fights) and the other is slightly more fighting based (3, 4, or 5 fights). I prefer RP, so both have a large dose of RP ( again, option on is like, all RP) but I'm afraid two RP or fighting episodes in a row would be boring, or doing a long RP interaction for a group that doesn't even want to.

Amount of times I said RP ( not including this one) = 8

RP leading to combat. It will be a holiday episode that, like a world-wide gift delivery, happens in a single night and at multiple houses.

I love RP and am probably better at it as a player than as a GM. Combat is the opposite. I'm so reckless as a player that I'll probably need Rule #1 (PCs don't die) more than anyone! By all means, make your episode as you see fit!

3 posts per week is a pacing I'm hoping we can stick to, though I'll understand if the next 2-3 weeks are slow or on-and-off.

I invested a good portion of my feats and traits into transmuting a wizard into a party face. I'm all about the RP.

Male Human Alchemist lv. 5

Alright good! We all are looking for the same thing!
So my last pestering question (for now >:3 ) should I develop Option 1 (big party with the high class, 1-2 fights) or Option 2 (a wild goose chase that ends with crashing a secret society meeting, 3-5 fights)?
Planning to do both eventually, but which one would you guys like to do first?

@VV
I hope you're not taking these questions as me not being interested in your episode, I'm just thinking ahead!

Male Human Alchemist lv. 5

Oh hey Johnny ( can I call you Johnny?) Good thing you're taking the party face role because Addy/VV has pretty much a spilt personality (one be depressing and timid, the other being maybe a tad sassy and violent and from what I can tell definitely overbearing) and Dr. Mavrin is definitely going to come off as a persnickety condescending prick!
