@Cashara, you'll know what the red lights are soon. Too bad you just missed winning initiative, but on the upside, you made your reflex save!
@Everyone else, WW's rolls are exactly as they should be. If you lose initiative, the second roll should be the reflex save.
Cashara Aivion |
Thanks
I should be fine
I need to get off here soon though XD.
really, you guys get on while I'm still in bed (my 6AM or sooner XD)
Well, I still hope to enjoy myself and help everyone else do the same
Cashara Aivion |
I feel I should tell you all
I will not be on Sunday
nor do I plan on being on any other Sunday.
I do hope you all understand
Vermilion Vixen |
@Jessica,
You won initiative, so no need to make a reflex save. Go ahead and post an action. I still want you to roll, but if your first d20 roll is a fail, I'll repurpose the natural 18 from your reflex save.

For some reason, I immediately pictured Flash the Sloth reacting to the three-humped-camel joke in Zootopia. It probably has little to do with the camel avatar, and a lot more to do with the fact that my kids are all 10 and under (no, wait... 11 and under as of today, my first-born's B-day!); therefore, I watch kids' movies a lot.
Vermilion Vixen |
VV, is the property fenced in? Are we at a gated entryway or is it open field?
Just a stone wall. You can navigate it easily enough that it won't impede movement. I live around enough rural areas that I'm used to seeing stone walls (2'-3' tall, ~2' across) that aren't difficult to climb, step up, volley across on one hand, or even jump over.
You could argue that you shouldn't get the 120' sprint, but I won't even worry about that.

Here is the Big Map I'll try to make smaller tactical maps as the fight progresses.

I'm going to link that to the description. You see up there where is says, "A superheroic RPG with "Round Tabletop" GM'ing!?"
The link will go right there, underneath those words!
You see the blue words that say "Johnny-Map!?" That's because... linked!!!
Thanks for adding the maps, Johnny!
Vermilion Vixen |
I had to look up the save DC. I honestly couldn't remember if the 13 or 14 would make it or not, so I looked up the most similar spell (Web) which the attack was based on. The DC is 13! So the splinters and chains hitting the men is just my way of saying you barely made your saves. No damage. Damage to clothing can be insta-fixed with a Mending spell.
Caledon Whitetree |
You're welcome guys. The santa dwarf was just a lucky google find.
I've add a tactical map for the first round and included movable tokens. I placed your forum Avatars next to the tokens for youer character to make them easier to spot. Once you know which one is your you can delete the forum avatar.
If you want different tokens, that can be done easily.
I just kind of placed Mavrin and Cashara within the circle of light cast by Caledon's Ioun Torch. Move them were you wish.
You can Zoom in so far on the tactical map that a 1ft square is as big as your thumbnail and still have pretty good resolution. Ctrl-Alt and Plus/Minus on the key pad make zooming in easier.
It's super easy to move the background image by mistake when you try to move your token. Hopefully it wont bug us too much.
Caledon Whitetree |
Caledon Whitetree |
The map is much larger than just one slide worth. You have to be in editor mode to move your token and see the whole map. If you use the link and it only shows you one light pole, click on the gear icon and then 'Open Editor.'
Vermilion Vixen |
Since Cashara did not start from a position of cover, she can move full sprint to the nearest cover. (100' from wall, can move up to 120' at full sprint.)
Moving from cover to cover, I'll allow jog speed, which is 60'. Each obstacle is ~50' apart. If you attack, you can move (but lack cover) or you can attack from the cover position and maintain partial cover.
...
Also, I love the tokens! The Santa under a net is hilarious.
Cashara Aivion |
I want to get at least 80FT from the red lights
if I can only get within 100FT to cover, that is fine.
I run full sprint over, and I role or slide into cover (putting me prone or crouch in cover).
I probably should have specified what I wanted in the in-game thread.
Vermilion Vixen |
That's fine.
If you move roughly 100'-120', you can be behind an obstacle. (It sounds like that's what you're doing.)
If you move 120' straight toward the IDIoT house, you can fall prone (AC bonus) but will not have an obstacle (miss chance from concealment).
Another thing to consider is that, next round, you can move 30' and shoot. I think dropping prone is a swift action, but that will have risks when enemies are closer since you get the AC penalty vs. melee.
Cashara Aivion |
Thank you.
I'll crouch behind cover 100'-120' closer to the red dots, and make a move on my next turn

The robots seem to either have some combination of deepsight and greater Darkvision or else just low-light vision and we’re all standing in my torch light. I believe that half-elf gunslingers also get low-light vision, so if any 209s pass within 40ft of a brazier you can see them as if they were in normal light.
To help judge distances, the road is about 17ft wide and the First brazier column is about 40ft from the roads edge.
I placed Cashara and Mavrin’s tokens in places I thought you’d like to be.
For Cashara I made sure she had a clear charge lane up the path. For Mavrin I assumed he’d place himself at least arm’s length from any animal or person but near enough to interrogate the dwarf.
You should pick you own starting spot if you don’t like where I placed them.
However, if you like your spot Cash it’s about 10ft from the property line. That puts the first brazier at 60ft for you.
100ft (20 Squares) of movement could put you behind the second sculpture or the first snow for. Both are outside of normal light for
humans but not for helf-elves, wasps, hawks, dogs or robots.
120ft (24 Squares) of movement puts you just outside of the third braziers human normal light range and twenty feet from the nearest cover.
Since the snow isn’t difficult terrain, we also have the option to move diagonally instead of strait at the cottage.

Two details worth noting:
TL;DR: everyone can see everybody.
'Splained:
• #1. The holiday lights make everything from the stone wall to the IDIoT house well lit by colored lights (as a Christmas-decorated yard would be). So seeing act other and the Velvet Ape is possible with normal vision.
Colorful lights line the trim of the IDIoT house, the stone wall marking the property line that has been crossed, and rows of holly bushes. More rainbow brightness spirals up evergreens and peppermint posts.
• #2. The only hostiles who have acted are RUDs, and you can easily see them because they have bright red lights at the noses of their metal bodies. Y'know—Rud(olph) the red-nosed... kill-bot. Other than Rudolph, it's very loosely based on the Fahrenheit 451 "hound" and the Robocop ED-209.
Cashara Aivion |
interesting.
and Cal, I'm fine where you put me. I have already moved at any rate so it matters very little at this point. But I thank you for your consideration.

Map updated with new light perimeters and some extra crystalhue decorations. I took inspiration from Sister Bellum's snow painting.

I'm sorry guys
I must leave you for the night.
it is 8PM(central time), and I need my rest.
and this just ends up being when everyone else is more active XD.

No problem. I'll update once everyone posts Round 2. Honestly, this game is moving at a good pace. I feel like we're fast, but not to the point it's overwhelming.

I too should soon retire but I have a question first.
Can we post are first round action whenever we want or do we wait are turn? Because I've been mostly waiting for everyone else to post because I'm last in the battle.Vermilion Vixen |

Holy crap! That's so awesome!
Can the maps only scroll vertically? That isn't a problem at all... just worth me making a mental note as future maps come up.

There's no pecking order. Initiative is only to see whether or not you act before the enemy.
After that, just post for the round when ready. There's no turn order other than players, enemies, players, enemies...
Much simpler in play-by-post.
Caledon Whitetree |
Also which map are you talking about? Because I seem to be having trouble finding the changes and I feel like I'm looking at the wrong map... I am fine with where you set me up, Cal!
If you are in slideshow mode you can't see the whole map. You have to be in editor mode. Updated Map
I just added lights to the cottage and stone fence too.

it is possible I might not be able to get on again today.

Ah... that explains the pit underneath the grape ape.
I love the Rudolphs! ...but I suppose the spider is more accurate.
Cashara Aivion |
GTG, bye all
I might get back on really early for me later. bye.
Vermilion Vixen |
That's fine. I probably won't post until 2019, so no rush.
(That's a cue for an obvious New Year's Eve joke. I was gonna let it pass because it's the right thing to do but...)
No rush. You've got all year!
(Oh, balls. Now I hate me.)
Caledon Whitetree |
I forgot spell focus, which is +1 to all conjuration spell's DC. The pit should be a relflex DC of 19.
Vermilion Vixen |
Even though I make up monsters, I find the Monster Index useful in situations like this. So... +6 Reflex Save because the monster I'm using for the toys has +6.
I do change some abilities, and that does include giving a creature flight—though not the Velvet Ape—and other attacks such as the lockbox net that only managed to hit the NPC. I also take abilities away. Had I used Toy Golem as the base monster, I would have removed the disease effect from its attack.
I mostly look up existing monsters so I don't need to come up with a bunch of stats. That's no fun. Explosions are fun. An ape falling into a hole is fun too. Hopefully I'll fail my save.
Vermilion Vixen |
@Johnny, I know common dogs have 13AC. Let me know if Cal's hounds have better, and if it's enough for a miss even with the -2 AC for charging. Cymbals that miss strike a peppermint post and a tree, respectively.
@All, please wait for a post that says Round 2 before you act. Since Dr. Marvin mentioned he would run toward the cottage here in the discussion thread, let's just say he did that.
(I hope I moved the right token. The blond-haired one in gray? Or was that Cal and the wizard-looking guy is Dr. Marvin?)
Caledon Whitetree |
Cal is the guy in the blue cloak. I'm not fond of the token, but it's the best i could find. The Blonde guy holding the flask is Mavrin.
I used my wand of mage armor on the dogs back at Bellums, so they should have an AC of 17.
The created pit is only 10x10, or four squares. However, all adjacent squares to those 4 are also sloped.
As I understand it, the "nearest open space" a successful reflex save allows the Ape to jump to would be the sloped adjacent edges. With a full round attack he'd be ending his turn on the slope and have to make a second reflex save. Unless he took a 5-foot step.
