Angela bashedly takes the piece of soggy paper, blushing slightly. "Oh my, I'm so sorry, I almost never have that happen to me!" Taking the soggy paper, she lays it flat on the stove and puts a large heavy pot on it. "There that should get the thing to dry some." She then goes back to her neat and tidy sorting of the chest.

After getting her work checked by Almaas, Three. Different. Times., Angela helps Kala with getting the boots on the thrashing man, proving to be fairly helpful at it. She gives a wide smile at Kala's words, clearing her throat loudly and steping into the center of the room. In a dry drawl generally only heard from the most sleep inducing of collage professors, she starts a speech.

"It's great that we've all gathered here, tonight. I would love to thank our Venture-Captain for inviting us on this wonderful evening..."

Sense motive DC 25:

Buff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
She is joking about making a full speech.

She continues the speech for the entire time of Rhinshin's fuddling with the lock. As soon as he has it open though, she breaks into a smile and cuts off the pleasentries. "... and now that Rinsin has the box open, let's get moving!"

Smiling slightly, the halfling decends on the box of goodies, having a list with descriptions of apperances and a space for the magical information as well ready in a flash, before picking up the things she might be able to identify without a spell.

Spellcraft, bracers?: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 7 + (6) = 14
Perception, vial: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Perception, gourd: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Perception, flask: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

She gives a shrug over the bracers, clearly not able to tell what they were intended for. However, a few sniffs of the vial of blue liquid and the dried gourd produces a smile and an addition of 'Elixir of Swimming' and 'Potion of Cure Light Wounds' on her list. The mitral flask's metallic tinge fuddles her nose, though.

As soon as she gets confirmation of what the other things are, Angela makes a second copy of the list and hands both to the Venture-Captain Heidmarch, pointing at two lines with an x. "Your signature to verify the contents of the box, please. And then this would be your copy to keep just in case."

Mission Gear If the items from the metal box are divvied up between party members please list them on on your character page below your "Other Gear" in section labelled "Mission Gear" (or similar) as these items are only useable for the current mission, though they probably appear on the Chronicle for purchase as well.

Lynn was pretty adamant on listening to the halflings sudden approach to giving a speech, she actually liked the drone of college professors especially the sleep-deprived ones. It had given her many chances to see just how many colors of the rainbow she could dye someone's clothing before they noticed.

"I can detect magic, but sadly i never really studied much into identifying them from their aura's." She however nodded along with Almaas, "Right, and thanks to our little ratling friend for providing us access to the good Sir's belongings. Hopefully they will do us good while assisting him." She gave Rinsin a slight bow in appreciation before double checking her gear and outfit was fit for travel.

Upon noting Rhinshin's success, Kala nods in appreciation. "Impressive. Good work."

She stays quiet while everyone else tries to identify the items, hoping they will be completely successful. When no one is able to identify the bracers and the cloak, she feels a powerful sense of reluctant obligation. It takes her a few moments to work up the courage to volunteer.

"[Cough!] Uh... I, uh..." She stops, takes a deep breath to steady herself, then continues in a determined rush. "I-have-studied-some-I-might-be-able-to-identify-the-rest."

Before anyone can respond, Kala casts Detect Magic in a loud, clear voice...almost too loud, as if overcompensating for something. She then examines the bracers and cloak carefully.

He leads the way and gives the rope to sleeping sword as he is the strongest in the group but of course he is also holding the rope.

"Alas, I am only a novice in the art of spellcraft. The Way of the Sleeping Sword is a warrior's path. I will wear these bracers though - it seems most unlikely that our friend would retain a cursed item amongst his gear. And I suggest that we place the cloak about his shoulders. It is his, after all. As for the sword, it appears to be broken, but it still has magic about it. Both mithril and magic may prove to be helpful. We should take it. It is not a type of blade that I favour, however."

Sleeping Sword happily takes Kalkamedes' rope from Rhinshin. "I do not think that it is wise to bind yourself to this large and lumbering human, nezumi, please allow me to take hold. I am stronger than I look. In fact, you must all know this about me: I was born under a cursed moon. This curse gives me great power, but at a price. I am vulnerable to positive energy, as if I was an undead. I am called a 'dhampir.' If I should fall in battle, feed me this potion"

Sleeping Sword fetches a bottle from his pack. It is labelled in both Common and Tien: Do not drink! Sleeping Sword ONLY!

"I also have several scrolls and a wand with similar magic - magic fatal to ordinary mortals, but beneficial to me." Sleeping Sword shows the group where his 'healing' magic items can be found, and gives them the command word for his wand wand of inflict light wounds.

Lynn watched the man take the rope and decided she'd grab an end too, though she may not look it she had a betraying strength when it came to lifting things, so it'd be helpful incase the sleeping man happened to go off a cliff. Outside the cabin, Kala crouches beside Stinky, calming herself and taking strength from him. Her hands bury themselves in his thick, coarse fur, pulling him into her for an angst-y hug.

Earlier: After being left outside by himself, Stinky whined and complained to himself in his own wolverine way for a bit until a scampering rat caught his attention. Once he'd finished with that fruitless chase, he set up an ambush on a nearby rabbit hole when...

Back to the present: Kala bursts out of the door and strides straight toward him. He can immediately tell that she is upset about something, so he turns to her with eyes full of love and concern. He leans into her as she crouches beside him, giving her full cuddles...until he smells a leftover scrap of jerky in her pocket. All cuddles are off until he gets the meat!

So is anyone picking up and taking any of these things (besides the bracers that Sleeping Sword is wearing)?

Not waiting around, Kalkamedes opens the door and strides outside without looking back, or even opening his eyes. He stumbles into a row of shrubs and forces his way through and down a into a thickly forested vale on the other side (lightly forested terrain). He crashes though foliage down a shallow embankment and right into a tree trunk without even slowing. He nearly topples from the impact and staggers for a moment. Then purposefully he reorients, moves around the tree, and shambles off again.

I'll need to know eventually who is taking him for Strength comparison sake otherwise the new sport of Kalkamedes-skiing will have been invented.

The ground ahead seems to be more of the same (difficult forest terrain) but Almaas can only see 60' ahead because of the dark of night beneath the trees.

They can, though they might want to hold other things, or need to concentrate and not be tugged upon to do so (also dwarf monks are pretty darn stable). Remember too that the terrain is currently lightly forested and therefore difficult.

Suppose it depends on if it's a carry check or a CMB/CMD check, Lynn is only strong if she needs to lift things due to Muleback Cords.

"Hold him steady Sir sword, if you need aid let us know." She fanned to the side slightly about halfway between Sleeping Sword and Kalkamedes and about 5 ft away from the 'leash' in the case she needed to assist or grab it in emergency.

Now that he's walking that's a grapple during which you have to keep him pinned for a few rounds (to untie and then retie the rope). Likewise it is a bit of a hassle to slow him down as he is constantly struggling to move at full-speed, which is of course a problem for any members of the party with a slower movement speed.

You need to grapple Kalkamedes in order to remove the rope around his leg and retie it to wherever you want it to be, otherwise he doesn't stop moving.

A quick retcon, Kalkamedes sleepwalking speed is 20' not 30' (his waking speed).

Sleeping Sword attempts to slow the man, and finds himself unable to do so. He tries again and this time Kalkamedes swings a wild punch at him.

To Sleeping Sword's trained night-vision it seems that Kalkamedes's lurching gait is not caused by the rough path. He might have hurt one of his legs or feet, but without stopping him to check you don't know for sure.

dice:
Sleeping Sword: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Almaas: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Kala: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Rhinshin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Angela: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Angela watchs the sleepwalker leave the room and then rushes outside, perversly curious to see what he will do. She then watches the antics of everyone scrambling to catch the rope and get ahead of the man in an attempt to scout for potiental enemies or dangers. She does have to prevent herself from laughing at Kalkamedes when he runs right into a tree and even the attempts at holding the man in place to let Almaas go ahead.

Realizing that se should actually be helping she rushes forward with her longspear in hand. Panting slightly from having to rush through the underbrush she gulps in a big breath of air and comments, "You're Sleeping Sword, right? I can try helping keep him contained. I might not be able to keep pace.... and help all the time, though."

Double move to get adjacent to Kalkamedes. Quick question, can Angela attempt to help with the grapple or strength checks to hold him in place and does she need to be adjacent to do so or can she use her longspear's reach?

Aiding grapple check follows the same as aiding someone in any other combat situation.

Aid Another wrote:
If you’re in position to make a melee attack on an opponent that is engaging a friend in melee combat, you can attempt to aid your friend as a standard action. You make an attack roll against AC 10. If you succeed, your friend gains either a +2 bonus on his next attack roll against that opponent or a +2 bonus to AC against that opponent’s next attack (your choice), as long as that attack comes before the beginning of your next turn. Multiple characters can aid the same friend, and similar bonuses stack.

Basically hedging Kalkamedes in, limiting his movements and making him easier to hit or making it more difficult for him to hit Sleeping Sword.

Alternatively Angela can attempt herself to grapple Kalkamedes, and unlike normal can do it via the rope that is attached to his leg (which would probably impart a bonus to trip him with if you wished to go that route).

Also, it looks like Angela's medium load with her pack limits her to a speed of 20', but Kalkamedes' sleepwalking speed is also 20' so she should be good there.

And something I forgot about (not that it has mattered yet), the current ground conditions all around are lightly forested undergrowth.

Undergrowth wrote:
...Undergrowth vines, roots, and short bushes cover much of the ground in a forest. A space covered with light undergrowth costs 2 squares of movement to move into, and provides concealment [20% miss chance]. Undergrowth increases the DC of Acrobatics and Stealth checks by 2 because the leaves and branches get in the way....

This means that Angela needs to take a double move to get to her current position however if you want to restate her round you can.

Ah, yes! Only aiding attack rolls and AC (with maneuver checks not being attack rolls *grumble*) I should memorize that better!

I had forgotten her pack weighs her down so much (she drops it for combat as a rule, so I normally pay it no mind) but we are traveling so she'd still have it. I have readjusted her movement appropriately. Sorry you had to clarify that and thank-you!

Combat Manoeuvre rolls are attack rolls.

When you attempt to perform a combat maneuver, make an attack roll and add your CMB in place of your normal attack bonus. Add any bonuses you currently have on attack rolls due to spells, feats, and other effects. These bonuses must be applicable to the weapon or attack used to perform the maneuver. The DC of this maneuver is your target’s Combat Maneuver Defense. Combat maneuvers are attack rolls, so you must roll for concealment and take any other penalties that would normally apply to an attack roll.

Lynn is pretty beefy when it comes to holding gear so if you need me too i can probably hold your pack and be just fine, i've got an effective carrying score of 18 so i'm good up to 86 pounds.

Lynn isn't much good at helping to detain someone so she stands aside, "Um Angela my dear, you look a bit weighed down by your charge, need a hand?" She offers a rather thin arm out to take carriage of her allies things. "I give you a merchant daughter's promise I won't dig through your belongings."

Kalkamedes tries to walk past Sleeping as if he wasn't there. Standard move that does not trigger an AoO because of the ground cover.

Slightly confused about the terrain effects GM. In one post above you mention difficult terrain granting concealment (20% miss chance). but in this post the terrain is granting cover. Is it cover, concealment, or both?

"Uh, the Way of the Sleeping Sword teaches that a warrior who does not know his foe cannot defeat that foe! Let us restrain this man, for I believe he has injured himself already."

Did Kala get a grip? It's unclear whether she is adjacent or not.

if Kala has a grip on Kalkamedes:
Sleeping Sword attempts to help her pin K. grapple, aid another: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

if Kala does not have a grip on Kalkamedes:
Sleeping Sword lets K get just beyond his reach before yanking him off his feet using the rope. trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Kala's last round grapple 20% miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 11Kala misses and instead grabs a bouquet of tall weeds.

As Kalkamedes steps away, Sleeping Sword tugs the rope hard. (No miss chance as the rope is wrapped around his arm). Kalkamedes though tugs back causing both men a moments-worth of unbalance.

Kala, realizing that it looks like she is hugging a bunch of scraggly greenery, quickly disengages from the over-sized tuft of weeds and tries again to grab Kalkamedes to pin him so the party can examine him for injuries.

This is very late, but that would be a life saver! Thank-you!

Angela gives Lynn a slightly urprised expression, but it soon softens into a look of appreciation. "Why, yes that would be very helpful!
