A Cordial Invitation from Zigvigix
Hello my friends!
Would do me the honor of joining Historia-7 and myself for a concert on Songbird Station? The acoustics are literally out of this world (Songbird Station's located in the diaspora!) As for the band, it is my very favorite, Strawberry Machine Cake! They always cheer me up, and you know how much Historia-7 appreciates their upbeat melodies.
I purchased these tickets over a year ago, and it would mean the world to me to have some of my wonderful new friends join us. Oh, please say you will come! I'll bring the salted grubs and rice candy!
All my stars, sugar, and heartlove,
Ziggy

Follow-up Message from Historia-7
Starfinders,
If I have to endure this concert, so do you. Rest assured, I have a mission for you and will brief you on it later. So accept Ziggy's invite, and report to Docking Bay 61 at 0800 in two days. We'll all ride out together.

Hello hello, Mister and/or Missus Zigvigix, your inviation sure is cordial, and that is very nice indeed!
Let me look up where Songbird Station is, and I can drive you out there... well, if you can supply a ship that is.
And maybe supply the fuel? The Diaspora is far...
Salted grubs and rice candy rule, you're the best!
P.S.: This is Sparks, here. I mean, you did mean to send this to me? Right? It's not a mistake? Even if it is, I don't care, because "finder's keeper's", so I'm coming anyway!
Hits Send, and then types away some more on her slimy comm' unit.
Dear Mr. or Mrs. Historia-7. To Endure, Report, Cooperate, that is what us Starfinders are all about! Will see you at Docking Bay 61 on time. And I'm willing to pilot your ride out, for this, or whatever, mission.
P.S.: can I go to Docking Bay 61 right away, before the two days? And just choose any ship and take it out on test runs for you?
P.P.S.: Please?
P.P.P.S.: Pretty please?
Sparks presses Send again, and then stuffs the communicator back into her mouth.
She skips along joyfully, her little clawed paws clattering on the gangway:
"This is going to be FUN!"

Oh my dear Zigvigix, I would be positively delighted to attend, not just to share your company once more, but to marvel at the perfection that is Strawberry Machine Cake! I hope you'll indulge me for a moment, but I've written a song in their style for just such an occasion... see the attached lyrics sheet along with a vidcast of a band performing in their style... Do you think we'll get the chance to get them a copy of it?
Jetpacks are Back
Written for Strawberry Machine Cake by Sebrir Feedbringer
You know what I need
You know ....
You wonder how I can make my way up there
Maybe you wonder
just trust me I’ll do it ...
let's find the way
(I’ll fly up there today)
to get up there
(I’ll go and fly away)
make it to you
(my jetpack is the best way)
The fuel, I’ll light the flames
Don't lose your mind
it's just another position
Flying high is the way to cross this chasm
(jetpacks are back)
and I’ll jet through the air like a rocket
(Up hiiiigh...)
My jetpack is the greatest way to fly
Let's find the way
(I'll fly up there today)
to get up there
(I’ll go and fly away)
make it to you
(my jetpack is the best way)
The fuel, I’ll light the flames
(Don't lose your mind)
it's just another position
Flying high is the way to cross this chasm
(jetpacks are back)
and I’ll jet through the air like a rocket
(Up hiiigh...)
My jetpack is the greatest way to fly...
to the edge of the the world
(to the edge of the world)

To Historia-7:
My dear friend, I wouldn't miss it for the world. And of course, I appreciate your sarcastic jokes as always, and look forward to enjoying the performance with you!

♫ Songbird Station in the sparkling night
Raise these broken hearts, don't let them cry
All your life
They were only waiting for your moment to be wise
Songbird Station, soon all will be alright
Lift your heedless ears and start to hear
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be here
Songbirds sing, songbirds sing
Into the light of the dark black night
Songbirds sing, songbirds sing
Into the light of the dark black night
Songbird Station, where songs take flight
Lift those voices and raise them high
All your life

Shortly after getting the message from Historia-7; Buster begins preparing for a mission. He turns on an album by the Kalo shanty core band Mandatory Asphyxiation and blasts the volume at near max volume. Buster is confident that none of his neighbors are going to make a noise complaint.
Bobbing his head to the screaming drum beat, Buster gleefully puts together a flash bomb and then shoves the left over materials he has into his backpack. After ordering a brand new detonator online, he begins methodically cleaning his weapons and loading spare magazines for his reaction cannon.
I wonder what Historia's got us going to do with a bunch a #!@ pop stars. Probably just a basic baby sitting job. But maybe them girls wants us to rub someone out for them.

Re: A Cordial Invitation from Zigvigix
Hiya there, Zigvigix!
It's been a triaxacoon's age since I've heard from ya! I think the concert sounds like a good old time, even for an old-timer like me. I just got back from a mission escorting some new recruits off some colony world out in the Vast, so I could use a bit o' entertainment!
About the snacks, the grubs and rice candy sounds wonderful, but my teeth aren't what they used t' be. Any chance you could bring something a bit softer? I can always bring my own if it's too much of a bother.
Anyhow, thank ya for the invitation! I'm looking forward to it!

Ziggy is practically brimming over with excitement as you all board the ship to Songbird Station. "I've brought my entire collection of Strawberry Machine Cake, so that we can all listen to it on the way over!"
"Actually, Ziggy," Historia-7 announces, "I have programmed in a medley of other popular bands, so that we can better appreciate our concert experience when we arrive."
Ziggy's antennae droop. "Alright. But maybe we can play the whole set on the way back?"

After a few days of travel later...
Rainbow-colored lights dance around the glittering asteroid-temple known as Songbird Station, one of the premier performing-arts centers in the Pact Worlds. Zigvigix nearly presses their eyes against the starship's viewscreen as they watch the station come closer, their antennae vibrating with a visible excitement.
“Look! There it is!” Zigvigix's telepathic voice exclaims with a high-pitched psychic punctuation that resembles a mental squeal. “I'm so happy that all of you were able to come! I know this was short notice and that everyone has been so very busy lately.” The last remark seems sincerely directed toward the other occupant, the android Historia-7. After a long moment, Historia-7 nods in acknowledgment of Zigvigix's words.
“When my friends were trapped in the Scoured Stars, all I had left were these tickets to remind me of what I and the Starfinder Society lost,” the shirren continues, clasping their hands together to keep them from shaking. “It means so much to me that those seats didn't stay empty. I can't think of a better memorial for my loyal comrades than to attend this concert with new friends and new Starfinders, to show everyone what the Society has gained!"

During the flight out, Sunny shared her photo album and gave everyone the litany of her sisters. The first 10 are taken in various and conditions, but after that there is only slight variations in clothing and hair through the identical pictures.
So, I've got a LOT of sisters. I mean, we're all Simar, but a hundred people with the same name doesn't actually work. To keep track of things, we've all got other names that are alphabetical, and every 26 years we start again. Simar - all of us - think that before the Gap we came from Vudra, so a lot of the names are from records of there. But there also seemed to be a lot of references to a small island nation with ties to the plane of water, so a lot of names came from there too.
Biggist sis Simar was the first of course. Then Trisha, but that didn't work out. Then Unita, Vala, and Wynne. When Xavia arrived we moved to our ship, and with Yuti things started to actually organize. Zoey was the last of the first set.
The second set was Aoife (it's pronounced ee-fa), Beatrice, Clara, Delphia, Eve, Felice, Garvita, Hema, Inara, Jane, Kaylee, Leuphira, Moira, Nadida, Oja, Priya, Quanda, Ragini, Sarah, Tavishi, Usha, Valini, Wamil, Xaria, Yasiman, and Zelda.
The next set was Amita, Bridget, Catherine, Daisy, Elenor, Falip, Grace, Hailey, Isis, Julie, Kathleen, Lydia, Meena, Niamh (nee-iv), Olivia, Penny, Quinn, Rose, Susmita, Tina, Ulka, Varsha, Wendy, Ximena, Yashi, and Zaci.
Then came Alice, Beverly, Cela (Selah), Diane, Elspeth, Fidelia, Ginny, Hirati, Isa, Jyoti, Karen, Laura, Michelle, Nancy, Opara, Penny, Qadira, Rita, Sophie, Tracy, Urbana, Veda, Winter, Xena, Yseult (ee-solt), and Zara.
In my generation are Abha, Brenda, Candace, Dorothy, Erin, Fiona, Gita, Hannah, Irene, Jenny, Kristen, Lily, Marcy, Nanya, Orset, Petra, Quess, Revhi, me, Tara, Ucchal, Vidya, Willow, Xandra, Yara, and Zazie.
And now we're on the 6th set! Amy, Becky, Carol, Dakshat, Emily, Fajyaz, Gloria, Heather, Ivana, and Jayazi. And Kelly arrived... 4 months ago!
Canon is unclear on the number of Simar, and not that explicit on how long they've been doing this. The naming schedule is entirely my creation. I decided to make them 1 year apart, all with the same birthday, and 123 years is a fun number.
Sunny Simar |
You've also seen Sunny talking into a video camera at various points on the trip, presumably her blog.
As Ziggy has their face pressed to the viewscreen, Mikkazuki asks “Why is it called Songbird Station? Don’t birds need air to fly?”
Oh, I know this one! It's because it's dedicated to Shelyn, and her sacred animal is the Songbird.
Question: are we playing this as when it was written (before 1-99) or at the present?
Mikkazuki Renchui Izado |
“Shelyn?” she says, clearly puzzled.
“Sorry, about the only god I know much about is Damoritosh. I did recently learn a tiny bit about Zon-Kuzoth? Think that was how it was pronounced.” After a pause, she adds “The god that likes to lose.”
Smiling, she admits “To my knowledge, that second one isn’t worshipped in the Veskarium.”
Sebrir Feedbringer |
Sebrir listens intently to Sunny through the first 15 of her sisters, then spaces out a bit, one of the Strawberry Machine Cake songs just playing through his head. He shakes his head to clear cobwebs when she's finished.
"Oh my dear, that is a lot of relatives! I'm sure they're all as lovely and interesting as you, though! Perhaps you could tell me some stories of your sisters' exploits for my vidlog soon?"
At the discussion of the gods, Sebrir nods. "Those are two that I've heard mentioned before as well, but Lady Shelyn is more well-known to myself, as well."

She herself carries no equipment, and is burdened by no clothes or armor: she is just a young, small, immaculately white Ysoki, with a comm' unit slotted in her datajack - a little touch of black amidst her ivory fur.
She stays clear of Sunny, avoiding the clone as much as she can, hoping that she herself won't be the one to fall victim to that old Armadan adage: "When a Simar leaves her home, someone is about to have a very bad day."
But she does wonder if she might impress the Simar enough to have the S of the sixth generation litter be named 'Sparks', "That'd be COOL", she thinks.
Sparks does try to talk with the Vesk if she can: "There are other gods too, you know. I follow one called Ibra, and she is neither about winning, or losing, but all about the beauty of the trip. Like here, what's the best, the actual concert, or the pleasure of going there with friends, listening to playlists, and - check out Ziggy, glued to the viewscreen - discovering this cool planet?"
The young Ysoki will ask Chikasa and Buster if they accept "to have me cast a warding spell upon you? It helps one keep cool, and be able to breathe while avoiding gases... who knows what emanations we'll be subjected to in that concert hall?!"
For any of the two that agree, she will give them Life Bubble when she regularly casts it on herself.
Upon arrival, Sparks excitedly checks out the rainbow lights around the glittering asteroid.
She jumps up and down excitedly, and casts a spell, creating a flamboyant red bandana, with a black pirate's skull & crossbones on it.
She starts flitting around, in rhythm, dancing out the beat, and sings:
"Ground Control to Captain Carmine

And put your helmet on..."
At which point she ties her headscarf on, revealing it carries the words:

Buster looks Mikkazuki up and down. She looks pretty weak for a Vesk. From her gear she looks like she might be a merc, though. And at least she seems to have okay taste in music. "Vesk! Question: are we playing this as when it was written (before 1-99) or at the present?
This is an interesting question, especially since some of you may have been in the Scoured Stars Invasion. Let's say after, but that Ziggy is still missing lost friends, and there is more information to recover on the Scoured Stars -- some of it still urgent, given new threats that arose.
I changed my mind. Let's accept the temporal bubble. This story clearly happens before the Scoured Stars Invasion. Think of it as a prequel.

“Wow! I hope that didn't make everything awkward! Don't worry, you haven't replaced anyone!” Zigvigix reveals a set of palm-sized discs, which activate to create 3D images of a diverse group of Starfinder agents. “It's the best I can do for them, but we'll all watch the concert together, just like we planned. Afterward, I'm going to take them to meet the band. Strawberry Machine Cake always sends holoavatars out to interview some of their fans after their concerts, and they post all of the most interesting pictures and stories on their band page! If I asked, I'm sure they'd offer a shout-out to my missing friends... and to the Starfinder Society as a whole, to let everyone know we're still here!”

"Oh, that's very good!" Ziggy claps. Then they look to the screen. “Oh, it looks like it's our turn to dock. I should get back to the comm.”
Zigvigix then excuses themself and steps out to pilot the shuttle, leaving you alone with Historia-7. The android waits, and then nods to all of you, giving Buster a knowing look.
“Starfinders,” Historia-7 says, without preamble. “I understand most of you are here for the revelry of the concert, but I must confess that it was not my motive for joining you and Zigvigix. There is a person of interest on Songbird Station, a human man named Hira Lanzio, whom I believe to be connected to a conspiracy involving the Scoured Stars. I require a group of Starfinders to briefly detain Hira Lanzio so that I can conduct an interrogation on this matter. I hope that you might be amenable to helping me with this task. So long as this mission is carried out cleanly and with precision, I do not foresee this interfering with your presence at the actual concert."
Historia-7 pauses, meaningfully, meeting your gazes as she looks at each of you. "It would also be efficient if Zigvigix remains unaware of this secondary objective—there's no reason to ruin their much-needed relaxation time.”
Mikkazuki Renchui Izado |
Frowning, Mikkazuki asks "How will we find this Hira Lanzio? Is he the paranoid type, someone who is likely to set alerts if people search the local infosphere -- assuming there is one -- for information about them?"
----
"Do you have someplace we will be able to detain him?"
GM Hmm |
“Ever since the events of the Scoured Stars, I have researched several information anomalies that I believe to be connected to a conspiracy surrounding the event." Historia's calm voice pauses as she assesses your reactions. "Specifically, an unknown person or organization withheld crucial data involving the Scoured Stars and later destroyed information related to the event. The Dataphiles were fortuitous enough to gain access to restricted documents from several corporations that confirmed my suspicions. The Starfinder Society was able to infiltrate one such organization and retrieve further information. As I suspected, the company is a front, existing solely to offer a pretense for secretive meetings of unknown purpose. My conclusion is that the people attending these meetings are part of a conspiracy, and their conspiracy has somehow involved tampering not only with the Starfinder database but possibly with our operations. The data provided to me has allowed me to identify only one attendee of these meetings: Hira Lanzio. Mr. Lanzio is commonly surrounded by multiple high-class security details, but since he would be unable to buy enough tickets for all of his bodyguards, this concert will be a rare opportunity to reach Mr. Lanzio without his usual security force.”
Historia nods to the view of Songbird Station outside your viewport. “I am unaware of his exact location on Songbird Station. You will likely have to discover that information by consulting with other people and any other means of investigating that you deem appropriate.”
"I do not have a location conducive to a private chat in mind," she notes to Mikka, “but you can hail me on your comm units if you find one in the course of your investigations. Learn what information you can about his activities and about any other members that are involved in his secretive meetings. If possible, search for any evidence you can find of a connection to the Scoured Stars incident. If you find enough evidence, or find a means to detain and interrogate him, I will be able to investigate further into the conspiracy surrounding the Starfinder Society.”
Sparks' |
Sparks answers Chikasa that it is perfectly all right taking a look. He sees that it is a Standard Datajack, with a Personal Comm' Unit slotted in it. The Comm' Unit obviously has a souped up computer, so it can be used with mental orders.
Sharing the spell, Sparks smiles: "I love magic arts. Magic is cool! I know some Arcane, and some Divine arts."
When Historia-7 gives her reason for keeping Zigvigix unaware of the secondary objective - "no reason to ruin their much-needed relaxation time" - Sparks calls upon her computer's IA to analyze the vocal rhythms and such, and see if this is a... misdirection?

Historia-7 raises a brow. "I would assume that anyone of his caliber is a combat threat. Be cautious."
Sparks realizes that Historia-7 is deliberately leaving something out when she speaks of Ziggy. She does think that Historia-7 might tell her more about this 'needed relaxation' if asked directly.
Chik-Chik realizes that they know little of Lanzio. Whomever he is, he must be operating at a higher level than the seedy organizations of Chik-Chik's youth.

Listening to her IA's feedback, Sparks scratches her furry chin with a claw, and then smiles at Historia-7: "Could having Zigvigix take part in the research relax them? Get their mind on something else? Or are they too overworked... or what?"
Sparks uses her Token Spell again, to change her bandana so it shows the words: SECRET MISSION IN PROGRESS
"Maybe a scarf like this one would cheer him up?"
Meanwhile, Sparks mentally peruses the data files loaded into her computer, seeking information...
If not, and she has to roll: Culture: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
...and starts spewing information about the concert: "I hope the tickets we have are not fake! And we have to think about circumventing their force field. It might even enable us to check out how they operate their super holograms!"
Sparks has access to all 3 spoilers and shares the info', so all can have a look.

Ha ha! I knew there was gonna be some kinda mission.
"So, are ya' saying no disintegrations? We could probably manage that."
Buster approaches Historia-7, "Ya' know, I respect Zigvizig an' all. Heck they's my faction leader and all. But I been getting the impression they's off their meds or something. Ya' don't have to worry about us; we can keep this quiet an let 'em have a nice time at the concert. But ya' think they might be needin' some more help in the long run?"
After the meeting, Buster puts together an improvised Mk I Flash grenade, and after wrapping it in some paper, he carefully stuffs the item into a spare cheek pouch.
Sunny Simar |
Understood
Sunny switches back to her typical demeanor. Pressing a button on her wrist, her flight suit becomes a party dress, though the glisten of carbon fibers shows beneath it, and a nimbus of solar energy dances around her. She holsters her two cannons and her sword. Ok, I'm ready for the crowds. Sparks, I'm sure we can find a merch booth somewhere.

Listening to her IA's feedback, Sparks scratches her furry chin with a claw, and then smiles at Historia-7: "Could having Zigvigix take part in the research relax them? Get their mind on something else?"
Historia-7 shakes her head, looking uncomfortable. "No."
"Or are they too overworked... or what?"
“Zigvigix will be unavailable to aid you due to medical reasons.” Historia-7 says, as if willing you to understand.
Sparks uses her Token Spell again, to change her bandana so it shows the words: SECRET MISSION IN PROGRESS
"Maybe a scarf like this one would cheer him up?"
"Organics, they won't give up. Right." Historia-7 mutters. She purses her lips and continues. “Be aware this information is classified, and neither Radaszam nor I will look kindly upon you spreading this knowledge to anyone."
She studies all of your faces, especially Sparks. "If you are willing to accept this responsibility, then you should know that Zigvigix had injuries that were not completely healed when they took command of the Starfinder's Exo-Guardian faction. They were discharged under the assumption that they would avoid further strain for a continued period of time, but they instead downplayed their injuries to Luwazi Elsebo out of misplaced shame and then took on the massive physical and mental toll of attempting to salvage our organization in the wake of the Scoured Stars incident."
"I believe that Zigvigix's actions were and are necessary to hold the Exo-Guardians together, but Zigvigix is beginning to suffer irreparable damage from the stress. About a month ago, Radaszam uncovered that Zigvigix secretly installed several new augmentations due to multiple failures in their biological systems. Due to this, you are not to ask for Zigvigix's aid in this mission under any circumstances.” Historia-7 then pauses, and adds, “Please allow Zigvigix to enjoy the concert.”
At this point you may slot your boons. No starship boons required, as Ziggy is taking you on his ship.

Though Sparks shudders at the thought of big Radaszam and his hord of mercs' coming after her, she remains mute and quite moved by poor Zigvigix's plight.
"What a hero", she mutters.
Sparks swiftly changes her Token Spell to erase the words about the Secret Mission, and replace them by the image of a big closed zipper, that she places in front of her mouth by moving the bandana.
Boons slotted.

Mikkazuki frowns at the information. I knew there was something wrong with Ziggy, but had no idea how severe it was. Augmentations are really tricky things, if they are pushing them beyond the normal limits there are all sorts of possible complications.
“Understood.”
“Is there anything else you can tell us about this Hira Lanzio?”
Scratching her chin-ridge, she then asks the group “So what exactly does security do when someone has a fake ticket? Could we make a fake that looks good enough where it would pass a casual glance, but fail any check by security?”
Smiling, she explains “It would be too bad if Hira’s ticket turned out to be a fake.”

Historia-7 nods again.
“Is there anything else you can tell us about this Hira Lanzio?”
"There's nothing else that I can tell you about Hira Lanzio. See what you can find while investigating the station."

Historia-7's stares at Mikka for a minute, completely expressionless. "You are devious. I approve. You have my permission to pursue this line of questioning."
GM Hmm |
You can of course continue to discuss things with Historia-7's, but I'm going to move us forward to the station.
Ziggy expertly docks the shuttle, and you all exit the docking bay into the back of a massive singing crowd alongside Zigvigix. The Exo-Guardians leader cheerfully sings along to the music with their telepathic voice.

A sea of pink and red fills the theater lobby of Songbird Station as fans of all shapes and sizes loudly cheer and wave handmade signs above their heads. Bright-pink spotlights illuminate the gigantic posters of the band members that plaster the walls, and upbeat music blasts from speakers on the ceiling.
As you are being jostled back and forth, Sebrir, Sunny and Mikka notice tiny hands pulling on loose bits of their clothing. Three tiny cobra-headed girls, all wearing frilly pink dresses, are making peeping sounds as they cling to you. "So many people! We can't see!" one of the children wails. They are all dressed just like Tsuchi-Ko, with little bows on their heads.
Mikkazuki Renchui Izado |
Although no great singer, Mikkazuki adds her own bass rumble to the song.
When she notices the small hands, she looks around for the parents. If the parents give permission, Mikkazuki lifts two of them up — one for each shoulder — and steadies them. She instructs BOB to watch the crowd behind her.
This is going to be fun! I probably should have gotten a white mask though, so many of the fans are dressed as band members. I wonder if that is normal?
As the others disembark, a female Pahtra dressed in stationwear styled to look like black leathers with fur lining comes off the shuttle. Mikkazuki waves to her. “Ester! We are over here!”
Ally for all those social skills Mikkazuki lacks...
NPC Buddy |
The Pahtra makes her way over to the rest of you.
She then looks to Mikkazuki and says “Mikka, when were you going to introduce me to your friends?”
Waving a paw, then she says “Nevermind, I’ll do it myself!”
Looking to the rest of you, she holds her paw out in greeting and says “I’m Ester. The Izado family has retained my services to help Mikkazuki when the situation may call for better social graces.”

Excited, Sparks happily sings along:
"Cause Fitch wants to keep us from ruin
Six starfinders in the night" ♫
She is quite happy to not have clothing to be pulled at by hands, little or big.
Mentally keying her Comm' Unit she contacts her friends: "So, do we start looking for Hira Lanzio? Maybe move towards the VIP section? Hack into a guest list? We could--
EEEK!"
Suddenly spying the overgrown cat, Sparks' eyes bug out, and she scurries away as far from it as she can: "Help!"
