I was told we were supposed to be afraid of the dark and I know you took the sanity mechanic and nightmare fuel from that, but I thought that was where it stopped.

While a chunk of things are drawn from don't starve, the overall theme is akin to that of a cuthulu light universe.
(Cuthulu light is basically a cuthulu universe, but with actual hope for humans, or abominations that aren't actively malicious.)
But all of this being my idea? Get real. This is all drawn from all sorts of other things.
