Survivor's Salvation

Ooops Darthen is a he. And how is Jeorik's lantern carried?

Female Human (Shoanti) Cleric 6
CrimsonDM wrote:
Standard marching order down the hall or Jeorik and Inigo up front as Istas suggested a few posts back? What are Darthen's orders, doe she bring the prisoners along or stay with them in the lab?

I think we all agreed to clear a path for Darthen and the prisoners before sending them toward the exit. Now that we see the skeletal hall looks clear, perhaps we should send a runner back to them and have Darthen take them out via the secret passage while we press on?

But aside from that, I assumed Inigo and Jeorik would take the lead to help deal with the snakes. Seeing that they're no longer there, we can go back to standard marching order, I suppose.

Male Human Fighter 3/ Paladin 2

Jeorik, as he is currently carrying his mace and shield, will agree to take point.

Survivor's Salvation

Since the hall is 10' wide Jeorik and Keliwyn can both be on point. The party moves into the hall and turns south, walking toward the passage in the west wall. Jeorik's lantern illuminates the walls as you process.

Before you reach the westward passage, Keliwyn holds up a hand. He's heard lowered voices and the scraping of wood on the stone floor around the corner.

Go ahead and roll initiative, figure out your plan.

Female Human (Shoanti) Cleric 6

Initiative check... 1d20+2 = 12

"Prepare for battle," Istas whispers to Heather and Inigo, "Voices ahead."

The priestess once again wards herself from harm, ready to carry out her goddess's will.

Casting virtue.

Male Human Fighter 3/ Paladin 2

Initiative: (1d20+4=14)

Jeorik, unless someone stops him, will plan on moving around the corner to attack, under the assumption it is the enemy.

Female Human(1/2 Chelaxian 1/2 Varisian) Sorceress 3(favoured class)

Heather nods in readiness to the Shoanti woman calling again on her inner powers, that unseen unfelt breeze lifting her hair her eyes turning from thier normal brown to a steely grey colour

initiative 1d20+1=17

Init 1d20+7=20

Is there a map?

"I shall occupy them, while you fling destruction among their midst."

Survivor's Salvation

Map

Initiative:

Inigo 20
Heather 17
Keliwyn 16
Jeorik 14
Buzz bombs 13
Istas 12
Derro 3

Party starts in room D6, I3-J6 area.
G7, H7 is the connecting passageway.
Derro start in D5.

Jeorik turns the corner to find a short rising passage to another room. A heavy table has been upended and placed across the passage as a barricade. Atop the barricade is a wire cage. Behind that he can make out a few heads moving around. The derro shout out and swing open the cage doors. An angry buzzing fills the air and two head-size insects come buzzing toward him.

Jeorik :

Spoiler:
As an outdoor kind of guy, you recognize stirges when you see them. If you're feeling really devious, you can use a different name to describe them to your compatriots.

Male Human Fighter 3/ Paladin 2

"'Ware the flying leeches!" shouts Jeorik as the scene comes into view before him.

Inigo presents a credible target to the enemy. "Hey, you!"

Full defense here. The others can go on a flanking manuever.

Survivor's Salvation

Inigo squares himself up prepares to fight off the buzzing menace, but the stirges have other (or more likely no) plans. They fly by the cleric intent on softer prey, Istas and Heather.

Inigo go ahead and take an AoO even though you're on full defense. And don't worry, your more intelligent foes will no doubt target you.

Female Human(1/2 Chelaxian 1/2 Varisian) Sorceress 3(favoured class)

Heasther blanches at the sight of the blood suckers she knows only too well the effect they can have and her reaction is simple...a blast of electricity to the nearest before she ducks back around the corner pulling her club out as she goes.

ranged touch 1d20+1 =12, damage 1d6+1=5

Regarding the continual light lantern..Heather took it from Jeorik during the Derro fight and still has it

I'll wait to see if Inigo and Heather bring the buggers down before Istas takes her action.

CrimsonDM wrote:

AoO Attack 1d20+3=17, Damage 1d8+2=8

Survivor's Salvation

Inigo's mace shears through a stirge as it passes. Blood, entrails, wings and limbs rain down on the party behind him. Heather's eletrical blast misses the other stirge by a bodylength. Shadows shift as she moves.

Wellard, is she retreating around the corner, depriving Jeorik and Inigo of light or advancing? Jeorik and Keliwyn are up.

Male Human Fighter 3/ Paladin 2

Thinking to himself that he has the wrong tool for the job, Jeorik drops his mace to the floor, and holding his position, he draws his bow and looses an arrow at the stirge coming towards him. (drop mace - free action, draw bow - move action, 1 attack)

Point blank arrow: (1d20+9=16)
Damage: 1d8+1=3

"Don't let them latch onto you," warns Jeorik helpfully as he draws another arrow.

Also, I picked my nifty lantern off the hook again (its on the previous page), so Jeorik has light. I assumed I tied it to my waist once more.

Work it out between you.

Jeorik nocks an arrow and spins to track the stirge in its flight. He releases and wings the insectile beast as it hovers to light on Istas. Still alive the stirge stoops toward the priestess.

Female Human (Shoanti) Cleric 6

Initiative has me acting after the stirge, unless its movement toward me was its full round action? Let me know if I'm free to act.

You are free to act. Just letting you know that the stirge is still alive and headed for you.

Female Human (Shoanti) Cleric 6
Jeorik Vandor wrote:

Istas stands straight as the stirge heads directly for her. "Perhaps they should take care I don't latch onto them!" the priestess responds.

She steps forward to meet the bat-like creature, transferring her spear to the hand behind her shield, and reaching out with the other one to grasp the ravenous beast.

Melee touch attack with gentle rest ability from the Repose domain... 1d20+3 = 20 to hit
If I'm reading the Beta rules correctly, as long as the stirge has fewer Hit Dice than Istas's caster level (2nd), it falls asleep for 1 round...no save.

"You must suffer the 'little death' for now, small one," the priestess tells the beast, "Now dream, while we carry out Pharasma's will upon these defilers."

Survivor's Salvation

Agree on the gentle rest. That's a pretty nice perk.

The stirge dives toward Istas as she reaches up. At her touch it falls asleep and drops to the ground on its back, exposing its dirty yellow underbelly.

Two derro pop up over the edge of the table barricade and fire crossbows at the most obvious target, Inigo. One bolt arcs high into the ceiling and past the party. The other slices through a gap in the armour, leaving a minor flesh wound. A feverish weakness begins to steal up his arm. (4 hp and DC 13 Fort save or 1 Con damage)

There must be more than two derro behind the table because the light enchanted objects dim and only the area illuminated by the lantern remains lighted.

Please resolve who has the lantern and where it is.

Survivor's Salvation

Keliwyn steps forward and skewers the stirge with his rapier.

END ROUND ONE

BEGIN ROUND TWO

Map

Initiative:

Inigo 20 G7
Heather 17 I6 ??
Keliwyn 16 I8
Jeorik 14 H7
Istas 12 I7
Derro 3 in room D5 east of G7

Party positions are rough based on actions last round.
G7, H7 is the connecting passageway.
Derro are in room D5.

Based on Jeorik's discussion thread post, he has the lantern. Presumably tied to his belt again, since he was using two hands. In the darkness cast by the derro, lighting will be obscured with dense and shifting shadows. Or Heather can have it and she's around the corner, leaving just Jeorik and Inigo in low light conditions.

In either case at the start of the round attacks against the derro will be made at -2, except for the fellow with "elvish eyes".

Finally as you start the round, you hear a clicking sound that you've heard before ....

Male Human Fighter 3/ Paladin 2

"Inigo, we have to take out these Derro now!" I say as I hear the clicking sound from behind.

Shooting at Derro from Higher Ground: (1d20+8=17)
Damage: (1d8+1=9)

Assuming Inigo moves further into the room, I will also take a five foot step further down the stairs this round to G7.

Inigo tosses a copper piece radiating light in the direction of D5.

"They already know we are here. Might as well know where they are."

Survivor's Salvation

Inigo casts light on a coin and flips it into the derro's room. Jeorik shoulders his way in G7 with Inigo. From their forward position they can see that the derro's barricade is hastily constructed from the tipped over table and odd and ends pushed up against it, most prominently a rabbit-hutch like cage from which the stirges were released. Inside the cage they can see four more stirges, apparently well sated with blood and quite torpid.

The passage rises from the skel-snake hall to the derro's room. In light of that Jeorik may want to revise his action. The derro darkness was cast to cover G7 H7 and the adjoining part of room D6. The table may well be movable. The table will provide a -2 to all melee attacks made across it. Inigo has a saving throw to make. Inigo may still have a move action left to use in round 2.

Male Human Fighter 3/ Paladin 2

Jeorik's intention is to eventually move into the Derro's room in case the others behind need to evacuate the room with the skulls.

Survivor's Salvation

Good thinking. You can climb over the table, DC 12 or try to push it out of the way, DC 14. AoO may apply.

Female Human (Shoanti) Cleric 6

With the sound of the skeletal snakes clicking to life again, Istas grits her teeth in anger and frustration, knowing they don't have much time.

"Pharasma will not be denied!" the priestess shouts, "Know that a handmaiden of death comes for you! There will be no more foul experiments conducted here!"

She lowers her shield, channels the warrior-spirits of her Shoanti ancestors, and then charges full tilt into the table in an effort to smash it down and clear the way for her companions.

Strength check (or combat maneuver?)... 1d20+2 = 21
Wow. Apparently, the Lady of Graves does favor an all-out assault.

Female Human(1/2 Chelaxian 1/2 Varisian) Sorceress 3(favoured class)

"Oh... bugger" Heather mutters as she hears the clicking of the Necrophidae start up again "I knew this was a bad idea".

She prepares herself for anything.

Survivor's Salvation

Heather, Keliwyn and Istas each catch a glimpse of the snakes emerging from the walls, then there is a faint whooshing sound, followed by the plop and fizz of acid hitting the stones around them. Keliwyn feels the bite of a splash on his arm. Istas feels it on her calf as she launches herself toward the table.

Istas hits the table and it pivots around the hutch anchoring the right hand end, opening a clear path into the derros' room.

Two nasty little blue people slash at Jeorik and Istas with their short blades. One punches through Istas' leather to cut into her thigh.

Necrophidae and acid trap rolled an 18 intitiative. But the necrophidae won't attack until 11 when the reach you. 2 hp to Keliwyn; 1 to Istas from acid, 3 from the short sword attack. Please roll a for save, Neil. Heather and Keliwyn still have to act in round 2. The are four derro in the room.

Female Human (Shoanti) Cleric 6
CrimsonDM wrote:

Since Istas cast virtue before heading into the hall, I'll assume the temporary 1 hp it provides is used up by the acid attack.

Fortitude save... 1d20+6 = 24

CrimsonDM wrote:

Istas is surprised at her own success...and the moment of distraction proves adequate to provide an opening to one of the derro on the other side.

CrimsonDM wrote:

The Shoanti priestess glares at the derro as he draws blood. "You'll pay for that," she threatens, "All of you will!"

Survivor's Salvation

All good, Neil. Bill, Wellard, round 2 actions?

Female Human(1/2 Chelaxian 1/2 Varisian) Sorceress 3(favoured class)

"oh well in for a copper..." thinks Heather as she folows on Istas' heels..Her shock bolt crackles from her hand but misses the derro she throws it at.

1d20=9, 1d6+1=4

CrimsonDM wrote:

Inigo holds his ground for the moment.

Round two; Inigo hurls a fire bolt at the nearest target.

Ranged Touch Attack 1d20+3=9, Damage 1d6=4

Survivor's Salvation

ROUND 2:

Keliwyn and Heather break into the derro room. As she unleashes a bolt of mystic energy which passes well over a derro's head, he spins to push the table and block the necrophidae from advancing into the room. Without Istas' running start he fails to move it. "Some help here?", he calls.

Inigo fails his save for round two and three (I rolled round three to save time.) 2 Con damage, Radavel.

End ROUND 2.

Round 3. You are all in the derro's room with of the little blue buggers. They are spread throughout the room. It's sized well enough not to worry about positions too much. Let's limit attacks to three against any one foe, but you can move to attack any target at will,

Initiative:

Inigo 20
Heather 17
Keliwyn 16
Jeorik 14
Istas 12
Necrophidae 11
Derro 3

Inigo chants to Azmodeus and unleashes a gout of flame that a nimble derro dodges.

Istas continues to shove her way into the room while also encouraging the others to follow through the gap she's made. Upon finding a derro target, she launches her spear at him.

Ranged or melee attack with spear... 1d20+3 = 16 to hit
Damage... 1d6+2 = 3 hp

She then draws her club and readies her shield for a prolonged fight.

The spear misses to the derro's right and clatters against the far wall.

Inigo coughs out some blood and wipes it away with the back of his hand.

"I am alright."

Male Human Fighter 3/ Paladin 2

Jeorik looks for a Derro to target, preferably on with the least amount of cover and then looses another arrow in that direction.

Point Blank Shot: (1d20+9=14)

Thom, do you agree with my interpretation that the 1st level domain ability is an at-will ability? Or can I use fire bolt again?

Survivor's Salvation
Iñigo wrote:

Yes, first level domain abilities are available on demand, as a standard action.

Jeorik Vander wrote:

You are past the table no more cover. Your shot, however, is wide.

I'll post my next action after I get some sleep. See you guys later.

Female Human(1/2 Chelaxian 1/2 Varisian) Sorceress 3(favoured class)

Heather knows she's a soft target and tries to put the more adept hand to hand types between her and any threat. Her shock bolt crackles out again...and again misses.

1d20+1 =3, 1d6+1=2

Survivor's Salvation

sorry about lack of description. Got to get to work, but wanted to start you all on round 4.

Two derro match up with Inigo; one on Jeorik; one on Keliwyn. Keliwyn takes 3 hp damage.

Keliwyn makes save v. dancing necrophidae. Warns party not to look back. Necrophidae stay in their hall, but group near the short passage as if waiting to welcome you back.

End Round 3.

Begin Round 4.

Seeing Keliwyn wounded, Istas moves forward to aid him against his attacker.

Positioning for flank, if possible.

She twirls her warclub, while looking for an opening in the derro's defenses. When opportunity strikes, so does the priestess.

Melee attack with club... 1d20+3 = 18 to hit (+2 for flank = 20 to hit?), 1d6+2 = 8 hp

"'Ware their blades," Istas calmly notes, "These derro poison all they touch."

Attack 1d20+3=18, Damage 1d8+2=3

Inigo lashes at one of the derro.

Male Human Fighter 3/ Paladin 2

Keeping his bow in his left hand, Jeorik draws his sword and makes a lunge at the derro. But he is caught of balance as he switches weapons and his swing is poor.

Sword attack: (1d20+4=11)

Survivor's Salvation

Inigo and Istas both hit. Wicht, are you currently sans shield? Waiting on Heather and Keliwyn for a definitive post.
