I'll go with attacking his opponent.

Spoiler:
You do know I was just joking :D

Spot: (1d20=14)

Deciding that the guard below might need the most help, I target the backstabber again with a precise arrow shot from higher ground. My shot flies just a little truer than the last.

Sigh... two fumbles in a row. Well let's see if I can make it right with his AoO.

AoO (1d20 4=17)

There we go that's more like it. Damage roll if the attack was enough.

Damage (1d6=1)

Geez, another 1. I should have stayed in bed today. Bull Rush roll coming up.

Opposed Bull Rush (1d20=13)

Keliwyn nods to Inigo and moves in to position as suggested.

Please place me accordingly.

Spoiler:
Keliwyn throws his dagger and the second man charging up the plank, and then switches his scimitar to his right hand.

1d20=4+4+1=9 to hit, 1d4=3+1 damage

Survivor's Salvation

Timing his blow, Darthen strikes at his large assailant, slicing through the man's leather jerkin and cutting into his hsoulder. Shrugging off the fleshwound, the big bald club-wielder (Lars) pushes Darthen back against the mast. As he passes, Inigo has a fleeting opportunity to strike. Behind Lars the ragged band of thugs storms aboard, weilding a motley assortment of clubs and blades.

From the shore, one of the thugs tries to make the leap across to the ship. Slipping, he hits the side of the ship, grabs desparately for a handhold and fails. He slides into the water.

The last thug lingers on shore. Readying his polearm.

ROund 1 ends after Inigo makes his AoO. Darthen pushed to I4. Lars goes to I5. Thugs line up behind Lars in I6, I7, and I8; one makes it to H6. Waterlogged thug is in G6 in the river. Polearm thug in H10.

Zven ends in J8; Nihls in K10. Thug 1 in J10. Guards in J9,K9.

Survivor's Salvation

Round 2. Inigo's 1st round AoO still to go.

Initiative order: Jeorik, Keliwyn, Inigo, Backstabber and friend, Darthen, Lars and Thugs.

Noting the guards plight, Jeorik draws and looses at the backstabber (Zven). The arrow grazes the rogue's midsection. don't think he deserves his full Dex bonus if he's not facing you.

Keliwyn throws his dagger at the man on the gangplank, but the throw goes wide.

you'll have to circle the combat. You can get to H4, on top of the hatch.

AoO Atk n Dmg (1d20+1=10, 1d8+1=8)

Inigo, you're still up for your round 2 action. Then the combat with the guards. Darthen you may post round 2 anytime. I don't think the shore combat will affect or be affected by you.

Inigo's hurried strike at the passing bald man misses, but he lets the momentum carry into a mighty windup for a fierce blow that he unleashes at the second marauder coming up the gangplank. The man's skull collapses under the impact and his body falls heavily to the deck.

Darthen slips under the big man's arms, darts inside his reach and stabs upward with his short sword into the man's midruff. The jab turns into a slice as Darthen pushes the dying man aside and returns to the head of the gangway. The big man lies on the deck clutching his stomach.

well done. I thought Lars would last longer. Description of dock fight and postions of antagonists to follow later tonight.

Survivor's Salvation

Darvyl 5' steps to I5 on top of the hatch.

On the dock Zven and a ruffian team up to fell the second guard. The third guard and Nihls continue their grim duel, the guard shifts away from Zven.

The thugs continue to pour onto the Maggie Bright. One steps over his fallen comrade onto the deck (I6) while stabbing at Inigo with a notched and bent short sword. The sword's tip slides off the gleaming breatplate. Behind him on the gangplank, a second assailant throws a heavy cobblestone which grazes the helm of the favoured of Azmodeus. The man who reached the deck last round (H6) swings at Darthen with a quarterstaff.

The brick only missed cause it was improvised. The other rolls were abysmal. What an incompetent bunch of goons.

The reluctant thug with the ranseur suddenly dashes forward, trying to spear Zven. Zven tries to knock the point aside, but it slides over his longsword, into his throat. "Darthen! It's Darvyl. These are Lamm's dogs." A bloodcurdling howl issues from the throat of Zven's partner, Nihls.

End of round 2. Dockside: Nihls K10, Thug J10 Darvyl I9, Zven down in J8. On the ship: Thugs in I7, I6, H6. Keliwyn H4, Darthen I5, Inigo J6, Jeorik L6.

Male Human Fighter 3/ Paladin 2

Having chosen his mark, Jeorik is a bit dissapointed when another takes him down, but he chooses Zven's partner as his next target. Even as he looses the arrow, Jeorik steps further up the stairs (M6) in order to keep his high ground in the swirling course of the deck battle.

QUOTE]
On Shore:
Jeorik's arrow passes through his target's chest, briefly interrupting the man's roar, but otherwise Nihls doesn't seem to notice. Swinging his longsword wildly, he charges at Darvyl, who releases his grip on the ranseur and staggers back from the onslaught. Darvyl draws a dagger to defend himself.

The remaining guard relaxes for a second when Nihls turns away, but regrets it when the last tough on shore changes to a throwing grip on his spear and casts. The guard is spitted and falls heavily to the ground.

On Board:

the ship's rail provides 1/4 cover between you for +2 AC. Not that it helped him Inigo's backhanded blow catches the rock thrower across the face. He spins and tumbles off the gangplank into the river.

Arando steps out from under the fo'c'sle and gathers himself. Behind him, Captain Smalls reaches for a belaying pin and prepares to enter the fray.

Keliwyn and Darthen to go before the two thugs left on deck.

Keliwyn's scimitar slides along the parrying staff. The blade goes deep. The point emerges from the wretch's back. He crumples and falls to the deck.

Occupied with Darthen and Inigo, the man with the bent short sword senses rather than sees his comrades fall. Driven by desperation, his swings take on a new urgency. He blocks and riposte's low at Darthen legs.

Darthen takes 1 hp. Darthen is still up for round 3. Depending on Darthen's action there may be one thug left on deck. Nihls, near the foot of the gangplank. Another thug dockside. Please begin your round 4 actions with spot checks to open the previously posted spoiler.

"There's a couple more still a'shore," yells out Jeorik as he aims another arrow at Nihls.

But though the range is close, a slight rocking of the ship unsteadies his aim.

For your go on round 3 the last thug on deck is next to you (in I6 I think, I don't have the map right now). Guys, don't forget the spot check in round 4 to read the spoiler a couple of posts prior

Desperately dueling Darthen doesn't deal damage. ;p

Spot check (1d20 8=9)

As the big thug drops to the ground Darthen moves up to try and take back control of the gangplank leading down to the dock. As he does so his footing slips as he steps on a length of rope left on the deck. He is to busy trying to keep the thug from impaling him as he gets his footing back he doesn't notice anything other than the thug in front of him.

a curious decision. Didn't you see the post about the jigsaw shark? Maybe that was just Jeorik. The river water is pleasantly cool, but turgid. The current is pulling you toward the bow. Roughly at the bow there is a ladder which leads to the dock above.

Reflex save DC 12 or take 2 pts subdual damage from the fall. Swim check. DC 11. (You may take 10.) One round will get you to the ladder. A DC 10 climb check will let you get to the top in time for round 5.

Round 4 waiting on Inigo, then Nihls, Darthen, NPCs and thugs.

Male Elf Rogue 6

1d20=16+6=22 reflex
1d20=17+1=18 swim
1d20=9+1=10 climb

Keliwyn avoids taking any damage as he falls to the water, and manages to swim his way to the ladder and begins climbing up to the dock.

That played out much, much cooler in head. All very cinematic, and not in an out-takes kind of way. I'll let you decide where my scimitar is, and don't forget Darvyl in the combat.

Another thug falls victim to Inigo's mace. Clutching a shattered shoulder, he writhes and moans on the deck. The deck is clear of opponents.

On the dock, Nihls' longsword brushes aside Darvyl's dagger, cutting into him. Darvyl falls to the ground. Then Nihls charges the gangplank, still in a blind fury. Nihls ends on the gangplank in I6. Due to the two bodies, square I7 will cost 10' to move through.

The dockside thug kneels beside Zven.

Darthen, round 4 action?.

If Nihls is on I6 he is on the deck. Did you mean I6 or maybe I8? You mention I7 is double movement thats why I ask. Either way Darthen will engage him in combat.

Sorry mixed up squares. Nihls is on I7, the gangplank. The bodies are in I6 on deck. Darthen can have his choice of I6 or H6. It's 1/4 cover between H6 and I7. For now the bodies have no effect on combat. Inigo is in J6.

Energized by the assault on his friend, Darthen unleashes a furious series of blows on the boarder, one of which slips past his guard and draws blood.

Keliwyn will need to charge to cover the distance I think. The thug and Zven are down in column K or so. No matter. You still hit.

The thug bending over Zven hears Keliwyn's approach and raises his morning star to parry, too late. Keliwyn's blade slices into the man's neck.

On the gangplank, Nihls swings wildly left, right, left engaging Darthen and Inigo simultaneously. This close you can see naked rage and tears on his face. A fierce blow catches Inigo in the shoulder. 5 hp damage

Sweat beads on his forehead before dripping onto the deck. Their swings keep getting faster and faster.
