"Wait, did it say 'son'...or 'sun?' Maybe we just need to wait for dusk? The 'last SUN?'"
Lydia looks over the corpse's face.

"That rune marks a magical trap, but made as a warning." He casts a detection cantrip to see if magic is actually there.
"You think this is the 'last son' of Tullivor? Maybe someone's already tried to get in."

Tawner Kelenfold

Since Lydia and Fomalhaut are inseparable, Tawner addresses them both. "I'm not the last, but that's a good point. I guess you have a good point too, Lydia. I'm not sure which word it meant, but it smirked." He pauses as he watches Dominic, who also had a good point, perform some sort of magic, "What's a Goshawk?"

Cast Detect Magic to see if the rune is actually magical
It and the bust both are magical.
"Wait, did it say 'son'...or 'sun?' Maybe we just need to wait for dusk? The 'last SUN?'"
No need to wait. It is already dusk.
Lydia looks over the corpse's face.
The body is that of a young human man dressed in a noble’s outfit with his hands bound with rope. He wears a belt buckle resembling a badger.
Lydia notes the resemblance between the lad and the facial features of the bust.

Dominic pulls the man's corpse away from the bust, trying to get the last bits of sunlight to shine on the statue. "You might be right Lydia. Let's see if this will work."
Dom also searches the man for any items.

Dominic pulls the man away, but a shadow remains cast from another nearby mausoleum--an alabaster tomb that evokes a past age of Galtan architecture, including a ten-foot spire atop a broad dome. Its awnings teem with sculpted white raptors. The iron gate bears the motto, “Last to Fall”.
The young man's hands are bound, and his pockets are empty.

Tawner says a few inaudible words above the corpse then turns to the group. "I've never been part of the interment process. Perhaps we can alert someone when we're done here and they can complete the burial. But what about that mausoleum there?" He points to it.

Sorry, for the delay, I should have a post up in about 9 hours.

As the sun sets crimson into the west Dominic catches a bit of light on his blade and redirects it at the bust. There is an audible click from the iron door.

"I can't believe that worked, Dominic." Tawner works with Black Maiden to open the door.

Tawner twists on his frame and checks out his own torso. "Hmmm. I thought I had removed all the thorns in my side."

The gate swings aside easily allowing the party entry.
There is no map of the inside, but who is going in?
The mausoleum contains five sarcophagi bearing the names of the Tullivors interred within. Above Laban’s casket, a gleaming tapestry depicts the Tullivor crest and the family motto: “Never in Shadow.”

random sarcophagus: 1d5 ⇒ 1
The maiden (after a false start or two) partially shoves the slab back revealing a dead person seemingly entombed for several decades. The smell is... unique. The name on the sarcophagus is Lemia Tullivor.
The corpse's clothing has moldered. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of gaudy pharaonic valuables to be found.
Meanwhile... All alone... Outside... Tawner hears something 'hoot' in the distance.

No magic in here.

In a rather uncaring fashion, the Black Maiden moves to the next Sarcophagus and continues the search. Take 10 str for 12
With all the lids ajar, the party finds four more corpses, one of them--Laban's--only a handful of weeks old. None of them seem to have anything of any value on them.
And it begins to smell pretty bad inside.

Remember, Lucy and Black maiden are the same, and I'm mechanically speaking perplexed... need someone else to do something guys.
Black Maiden growls.
Let them come in. I'm not leaving until I have that damn treasure.
She turns to her bunny rabbit.
You see anything Mara?

Tawner feigns drunkenness. It's the only thing he can think of while fully armed.
Bluff: 1d20 ⇒ 7
He swings his sword in a slow fashion.
"Jess fightin' the...evils...need another drink and I'll be ready...person with a crossbow" He yells out this last part.

Assuming that Lydia points out the fibers...
Black maiden moves to the tapestry and inspects it.
Blasted.... can it really be...
GM, am I right in assuming that the treasure is that the fibers of the family tapestry are literally weaved out of silver and gold?
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Yes. The family tapestry looks like it might be worth something--but no one inside the tomb has any idea of quite how much. I already made (or rather didn't make) the groups Appraise checks. Then when the Black Maiden looked at it again I made a "Well duh--silver and gold" Int check (DC 10) to put it together and rolled a 6 or something. Then I had to wait for Lydia and rolled better. The whole thing is very pretty and probably much worth more than just the precious metals woven into it.
Black Maiden
|
Well, I don't have appraise and didn't spot anything else, so here is to hoping.
The black maiden growls and steps up onto a tomb to take down the tapestry.
Gods be damned if I'm going to leave here empty handed. Help me with this blasted thing.
As soon as she gets the tapestry down, she does her best to roll it up as small as possible so it can be carried. She then moves to the front of the tomb and takes a peek outside. Assuming we can see tawner and horsewoman.
Double blast... let's see how Tawner handles this....
As she speaks, a small black rabbit hops past her feet out into the bushes, making it's way towards the woman and her horse...
stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24
Gonna give tawner a chance to interact before the vicious bunny starts causing problems.
Dominic Radzi

"Fine, just keep it down!" Dominic hangs back as Black Maiden pulls down the tapestry. He draws his whip and readies a spell if the woman attacks Tawner.
Ready Daze spell (DC Will 13) if she attacks Tawner.
Tawner Kelenfold

Not sure what to do. My bluff was terrible, unless the guard can't really sense my motive.
Tawner walks away from the mausoleum still holding his sword out at a weird angle, trying to put the woman between him and his friends.
Better keep an eye on Black Maiden or she'll try to kill this woman.
Tawner Kelenfold
|
Tawner crabwalks, making large sideways strides towards the gate. Enough to keep an eye on the guard and keep his shield arm facing her.
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
She waits until Tawner is outside the gate (keeping pace on her horse) before shutting and latching it.
Tawner Kelenfold
|
That was close. Hopefully this will give my friends time to discover what we were looking for.
Tawner sheaths his sword and walks towards the buildings near the cemetery. Once there he stays in the shadows and watches in the direction of the mausoleum for any activity.
Black Maiden

Black maiden chuckles.
Looks like we'll have to climb over the gate.... or maybe not... though, I get the feeling Lucy would be mad at me if we killed a guard doing her job... may be a easy way out though. Follow my lead.
She sheaths her weapons and removes her crow mask, making sure to finish packing the tapestry in her bag. As the woman is looking away, she steps out from the mausoleum and calls out.
TAWNER! TAWNER! WHERE ARE YOU YOU DRUNKEN IJIT!?
She grumbles stalking up to the woman.
Hey! Have you seen some drunken idiot come this way? He's a partner... Fool needs to learn to hold his drink. We've been chasing him all day! Ijit ran this way... please tell me you've seen him. Bastard's mother will never let me be if he gets himself hurt.

Before we go too far, tapestries are pretty big.
A woven wool tapestry about 10 feet square and about 1/4 inch thick [and weigh 100 lbs].
If you have ever had to transport a big torn up section of carpet to your curb for garbage pick up, you know how unwieldy these things are.
Black Maiden
|
Oof... Hm. That is a bit of a problem... Hmmm... Man, unless the other team members agree to carry it behind, I can't even try this route, that's straight into "have to drag object" territory. Let me try plan "B" then. B for BUNNY!
Black maiden plans out the perfect plan in her head, then looks at the tapestry in frustration.
Arrrgh... that won't work.
Meanwhile, a black little shape moves through closer to the horse...
