Was there any casting that occurred in the area?
Possibly, but there is enough noise, and crowd cover to leave Ramachandra unsure.

Some of us posted healing rolls.
Would you highlight the ones we recognized from before on the map?
Ramachandra takes a defensive stance (Total Defense)
Doughlas |
Doughlas' shoulders droop and moans loudly. He then pulls his mace from his belt and takes a defensive stance(Total Defense = AC 16).

I am willing to contest that point. Link to near the epic battle's finale. Scrolling forward I did not see any. I'm willing to concede a quick redo considering I know Einarr's player (at least) has a lot on their plate just now.

Ramachandra recognizes the strange, not-quite-right lady in purple and the sly looking fellow in green. He could make an educated guess as to the halfling with the impressive mustachio in black. Doughlas recognizes one more, but not from today, but from last night. It seems an age ago to him now though.
Tathane Halfbarrel |
As soon as the cloud covers the group Tathane moves to the side of the road. Operating from cover is something he's used to. He tries to move forward but the crowd of people is too much to allow him to make progress. Instead, he pulls out his dagger. This could get dangerous.

Perrine Ravella |
The gnome wasn’t sure what was happening but it felt like trouble. She drew her starknife and cast Divine Favor on herself as she waited to see what transpired.
Esper Zevral |
Esper pauses, preparing to defend herself. (She readies an action to swing her staff at anyone who attempts to harm her.)
Bludgeoning Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

I think you only get one of these actions, the move action to draw a weapon or the standard action of cast a spell.
The group of trackers waits as well as the crowd rushes off to the far corners of the alley. As the sausage vendor ducks around the corner a harsh woman's voice from the mist commands.
"Now!" She follows up by offering up a muttered prayer.
Another woman speaks a word of magic.
Threatening Figure |
Edited from previous posting
"Alone at last. Now friends you will forgive me for being so familiar, but it seems like I know you all so well now--hand over the box. For that matter your weapons, magical accoutrements, and armor as well." says the voice. "I shan't ask a second time."
Her fellows take up more defensive postures.
Esper Zevral |
As soon as Einarr is hit, Esper activates their psychic link. Automatically triggering psychosomatic surge on Einarr. He gains a number of temporary hit points equal to 1d8 + 1/2 the mesmerist’s level. If the damage from the triggering attack would have reduced the subject to 0 hit points or fewer, this trick grants an additional 1d8 temporary hit points. These temporary hit points last for 1 hour or until discharged. So he gains 2d8+1 temp hp. Because it was triggered on him, it is no longer implanted in Esper.
Einarrs temp hp: 2d8 + 1 ⇒ (5, 6) + 1 = 12

Good save Esper! Alas, I just realized I have made a huge mistake. The baddies are in surprise round actions too so lemme roll back a few posts and not kill Einarr so much.

Haha. In that case my psychosomatic surge is still implanted in both Esper and Einarr, and has been triggered in no one. Also, since you offered, I'll roll a charge from Ramachandras healing wand on Einarr from before the fight, when he offered it to everyone. EDIT: You did offer. I don't see it anymore. lol
Healing Einarr: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
---
Esper focuses on the speaking voice, sending out psychic tendrils of energy and latching onto the psyche behind the words. Making the 'Threatening Figure' the target of my hypnotic stare as a swift action which gives him -2 on Will saves.
Concentration DC 20: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 Failing.
Then she focuses on her surroundings, sending a mental curse out into the area to hinder her enemies. Casting bane. All enemies within 50 feet take a -1 penalty on attack rolls and a -1 penalty on saving throws against fear effects. Will DC 15 negates.
Staff in hand she stays quiet and waits....
The World's Most Interesting GM |
Esper, I'm going to the rule that essentially you are blind to your target so a concentration check would be in order--'to target the opposing mind'.

Tathane moves forward while staying as close to the building as he can, searching for places to hide and remain concealed.

Putting Tathane back on the ground. I know it's foggy but that next step would have been a doozy. ;) Feel free to correct your final positioning.
Perrine Ravella |
After pulling her weapon, Perrine casts Divine Favor on herself, moving forward 20’ straight ahead with the flow of the crowd.
Would someone move me, please?
Ramachandra Mishra |
Ramachandra took a step forward and seeing Einrarr was still injured, he pulled out his wand an healed him.

Threatening Figure |
Tathane edges close to the edge of the mist where he can get a look at the four people standing there.

La: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Le: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
"Don't want to talk, huh?" Suddenly the mist is gone and the speaker is revealed as a hooded and cloaked figure holding a black-bladed shortsword. "Ledford, loosen their tongues--Well it seems we won't have to go far...."
The figure laughs wickedly at the unexpectedly revealed Tathane.
She takes a step closer and stabs forward.

But the nimble half-elf evades again!
Ledford |
"Git away! I'll kill him for you!" shouts a squat halfling nearly as wide as he is tall with the most luxurious moustache this side of a the Five Kings Mountains. He grips his battleaxe in two hands and swings!
"RRAAWW!!"
greataxe v Larkin (bane): 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 - 1 = 10 damage: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
The blow takes bricks out of the corner of the building next to Tathane.
"WHAT!" sputters the halfling in incomprehension.
Halli Fosta |
"Magic. One of the witches has cast a spell upon you! No matter I can hit anything I choose too. BWHAHAHAHAHAHA!" the crazy-eyed woman shouts and laughs before using her magic to fire a bolt of pure force at Tathane. the magic missile homes in on the rogue.

Ramachandra Mishra |
Ramachandra steps around the corner from where the missile originated from and begins casting a spell.
5-foot step and begin casting sleep, a 1 round casting time spell.
Esper Zevral |
Esper adjust her positioning, moving closer to the fight so she can better see their attackers.
Seeing the halfling take out a chunk of the wall, Esper focuses her gaze on him, thrusting her psychic tendrils into his mind. Targeting Ledford with my hypnotic stare. Choosing that he forgets I've targeted him. He takes a -2 on Will saves.
With the halflings mind in her clutches, Esper casts her focus out towards the movement centres of his brain.
STOP
Her eyes flicker with a flash of golden light.
Casting daze on Ledford. DC 14 Will save negates, he takes a -2 penalty on his save from my stare.
"Take down the halfling." Esper tells her companions.
Note: If the target of my stare (Ledford) is damaged at all before my next turn I can cause him to take one additional damage from that attack. She will activate it automatically the first time he is harmed. She can only cause the extra one damage once per round. For full details, read my Painful Stare ability on my profile.
Doughlas |
After the fog vanishes and Doughlas is now able to see who the attackers are, "Too bad that half-orc ran off! Would have given him all my gold to help us..."
Doughlas moves up behind Einarr and realizes that his ray spells would never make the distance through the line of people. So he decides to hide behind a wall corner to debate any more options.
Tathane Halfbarrel |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Tathane dodges, ducks, dips, dives, and dodges to avoid the attacks coming at him but he's unable to get out of the way of the magic missile. "Ooof! I don't like that." Tathane reconsiders his decision to move up so close to the bad guys. He quickly strikes out with his dagger then steps back.
dagger@red: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11
Perrine Ravella |
Perrine advances to the square just south east of Tathane, and swings her starknife at the halfling with the glorious nose tickler.

Damage with Divine Favor 1d3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5

Einarrbot flush on power and hit points rushes forward chancing an attack to get in close enough to deliver his own. The threatening figure's black blade passes by his ear. His return swing comes close to decapitating the figure but for a few inches. Instead it is only a glancing blow.

The big man springs forward at Perrine with deceptive speed! His lean blade transfixes the gnome. She topples forward like a marionette cut from its strings.
The man grins at his work. "Heh."

"THE BIG ONE IS MINE!! NO PLACE TO HIDE NOW YOU BIG HAIRY GIT!!"
The mustache battleaxe and attached pint-sized brute surge forward straight at Einarr.
battleaxe v Einarr (bane): 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 5 - 1 = 14 damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
The clash of axes is thunderous.
Halli Fosta |
"Dodge this half-elf."
The crazy-eyed woman in blue rounds the building corner, the last syllable of her spell upon her lips. A scintillating wave of sparking light and color erupts like a tornado from her fingertips!
"NOW! Taste the rainbow. BWHAHAHAHA!!!"
She casts color spray (Will DC 14) targeting Tathane's and Einarr's squares.
Esper Zevral |
As soon as Perrine's attack strikes the halfling, Esper's psychic tendrils stimulate his pain centres, causing an extra 1 damage! Perrine's attack, if it hit, would have dealt 6 instead of 5 due to my painful stare.
The World's Most Interesting GM |
Einarrbot Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Einarr uses the polished edge of his axe to deflect the worst of the rainbow blast while maintaining his haft-lock against his small, tenacious foe.
