Tathane lets go of the rope before he gets pulled down into the water then he turns to face the rats. He runs by Ramachandra and pins a rat between himself and Perrine. As soon as he's in position he stabs with his dagger.

Doughlas pulls his mace from his belt and swings at the grey rat! "Just like the rats back home. They would burrow in the freshly dug graves. Never a uneventful day at the cemetery!"

Einarrbot climbs into the boat to see the remains of the crate burst open all over its whatever they call the floor-thing--deck I think. There are the remains of a smaller box containing several books, ledgers, loose parchment, scattered amid some dice, an exploded deck of cards, broken and unbroken jars of ink and other less easily identified substances, more parchment, scattered rolls of oiled leather containing what appear to be thieves' tools, and plenty of straw packing material.
Agirran himself is covered in ink and packing material.
"$%$%^ %^&@." Agirran says bitterly spitting out hay.
The gray rat keels over after Tathane scores a solid slash across its flank, but the remaining rats pay it no heed.

does Einarr have everything the group needs for the completion of this part?
| Guaril Karela, Entrepreneur |
That and a bit more.
“There’s a big crate marked with three crows arranged in a triangle. Inside that crate is a smaller container with a few books and papers in it. That’s the only parcel I’m interested in, and as far as I’m concerned, you can help yourself to the rest of the crate. Honestly, anything else you want in the place too. I’m sure the once things get sorted out, the city will seize most everything else anyway."

Esper steps forward and swings her staff down over the head of the black rat...

Tathane grins at the rat that falls at his feet. "One more to go!" He skips past Esper and Rmachandra and positions himself opposite Doughlas then stabs again with his dagger.

While he make think it is foolish Einarr will spend time trying to keep the mission critical books/crate safe from water damage or sinking... better to have skalds retell stories than write stuff down...a skald wouldnt sink... Einarr thinks to himself. After he is certain the crate/books are safe he then begins to look at what else he can recover... besides its just rats up there... hardly that dangerous...

Hissing and snarling from its perch, the white rat bites Perrine on the forearm, and shakes her vigorously the way a guard dog might.

Fort 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Perrine screams as the little bugger finally bit her. She again tried to slash at it, but breathed a big sigh of relief as Tathane finished the beast off.
Esper Zevral
|
Esper looks around to ensure there are no more rats... Then she walks over to the hole in the floor. (Near, not close enough to be at risk of falling in)
"Are you boys alright down there?"
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Later, after collecting the items from the bottom of the boat the party meets back up on the pier to plan their next move.
Esper Zevral
|
"Come along. Let us deliver this to Guaril."
| Guaril Karela, Entrepreneur |
The party returns to to the Pickled Imp with the contents of the mahogany box to give to Guaril Karela. The sign on his door has been flipped to 'closed' but the door itself is unlocked. Karela is inside dusting a weapon display case with a plaque that reads: Wave, Whelm and Blackrazor.
"Ah friends you are back! I was just beginning to worry. So let me see." He opens the crate and scans through it's contents. "Yes, this is it! I knew I could count on you." He winks at Esper.
"If there is ever anything this truly humble shopkeeper can do for you, you need only ask. Especially you, my lovely persimmon snip...." He says to Esper. Karela's eyebrows move up and down a couple of times.
"But you will have to excuse me now. It is almost sunset, and the coven I rent this space to likes to get an early start."
Tathane Halfbarrel
|
Tathane raises an eyebrow and smiles at Esper. He steps close and nudges her in the side. "Looks like you have an admirer." Tathane turns to the others. "So, back to Valsin?"

Esper Zevral

Esper gives Guaril a nod, "Until next time."
Once they're outside, Esper smiles at Tathane. "I have plenty." Then she shakes her head. "But, not, we're not done. We still have to report to the... church about the orphanage."
Doughlas
|
Doughlas nods to Esper's comment about returning to the church. "I only saw that she liked to be pickled during the day and she has a pretty good aim with a chamber pot."
Perrine Ravella
|
”I think it’s clear that she is awful. Do they have someone else who would step in and make sure the children didn’t starve, though? That’s my main worry...”
Esper Zevral
|
"Don't forget that she also sends them out to do difficult labour." Esper remarks, "Perhaps the church will step in. They wanted to help."
She practically hisses the word 'church' every time she says it.
| Sister Ollysta Zadrian |
Having decided upon a course of action the companions rush across town, through the Coins district and to the Temple of the Shining Star, in the Ascendant Court. They are asked to wait in a dramatically sunlit cathedral foyer. The early evening sun cuts into the chamber at a stunning angle allowing the party members to pick out motes of dust in the warm evening light. A blue-clad curate appears after a minute or two to lead the group into quiet office chamber.
Sister Zadrian rises from her desk to greet the party.
"You're back. It was growing late, and I wasn't expecting to see you again today. Please, tell me what have you learned."
Perrine Ravella
|
Perrine tells everything she saw. The kids were skinny, the woman was a sot, and they had to do hard work. But at least they were alive and Perrine had seen others in worse shape in her life. ”Is there anyone else who the Crusade has in mind to help these children,” Perrine wanted to know.
Esper Zevral
|
Esper hesitates at the threshold of the church, clearly not wanting to enter the grand building. She grits her teeth, puts in a great effort to top her hands from shaking, and enters. She looks completely uncomfortable in the building, and nods absently at Perrine's explanation of the orphanage.

Perrine tells everything she saw. The kids were skinny, the woman was a sot, and they had to do hard work. But at least they were alive and Perrine had seen others in worse shape in her life. ”Is there anyone else who the Crusade has in mind to help these children,” Perrine wanted to know.
"Alas, that is the problem. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Our numbers in the Silver Crusade are limited and we are already stretched so far. Perhaps you could encourage your friends to join our effort?" Sister Zadrian turns her benevolent gaze to Esper.
"Still we must do something. We can't have this drunkard running a work house on the backs of children. No doubt she is profiting by it somehow. I will call upon the few inquisitors we have to deal with this immediately. Thank you all for your help today. Tell the Master of Swords that I said so." She smiles and shakes hands with everyone though is a bit stand-offish when she does so with Ramachandra.
"Truly you were Sarenrae-sent." She says while pinching her nose.
"May the light guide you."
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
By the time the party leaves the Temple of the Shining Star the red-gold sun is already beating sideways upon the white towers of Absalom, bathing all the streets below in deepening shadow.
Esper Zevral
|
Esper hesitates.... but eventually offers Sister Zadrian her hand in a handshake.
"Thank you for caring about the children."
Doughlas
|
"Lets hurry back to the Venture Captain before any other blocks appear!"
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
The group makes for the Grand Lodge as evening approaches. They join the throngs of others on their way home or heading into work for Absalom is a city that never sleeps.
The group enters into a market square and discovers it blocked by a crowd of people who have stopped to watch a group of garish mummers and chalk graffiti artists going about their art. The party is diverted down a side alley with a portion of the crowd that is trying to get around the bottleneck.

Tathane Halfbarrel
|
Tathane grabs at Esper's arm. "Hey," he whispers quickly to her. "Remember that guy with the mustache you saw the the orphanage? I just saw him again. Ahead." Tathane tries to get a better look to covertly point him out to Esper.
He nods at Perrine. "You too? You see that guy?"
Esper Zevral
|
"I see him." Esper replies. She continues down the road as if nothing is amiss, staff in one hand, and the other empty.

As they walk, Ramamchandra makes sure to heal his wounds as well as anyone else who needs it with his wand.

Tathane sees Ramachandra using his wand of healing and asks for a favor. "I have no idea why they are always around us. But I think it's probably not good."

Suddenly, a cloud descends upon the alleyway causing a panic in the throng.
