What the griffon wants to eat, he must hunt himself. Romon pauses torn between impatience to see what's in the stone coffins and a vague plan to return later alone.

That is unlikely. They feed on death, but not upon the dead. Whatever life-energies they stole to come into existence are long depleted, and unless this place is a nexus to the shadow-worlds that lie alongside our own, new shades should not appear here.

Ah Marak, always good for pulling a pretentious, and possibly disastrously wrong-headed, assumption out of his backside.

If it doesn't seem to react within a few moments, he attempts to turn it clockwise, then waits a moment, and attempts counter-clockwise...

Off door-duty for once, Romon readies his bow and an arrow. He glances over at Inikai and Nathaniel. "What's wrong with the Chel?"

Romon half-draws his bow. He thinks putting some tension on will let him release faster without the strain of holding the bow at full draw.

"Marak, stay clear as the door opens." , he says quietly.

Wellard, I think I missed Romon's 3rd level feat. And maybe BAB too. Fix it now or after we get out ?

This(60' wide and 30' deep) room is lit by a ten-foot-wide pit of flickering fire that fills the room with a strange humid heat and the smell of burning hair. In the northern corners of the room, wooden risers each hold several dozen golden candles that burn without melting, while to the south the wall bears an immense carving of a seven-pointed star.

It otherwise appears lifeless.

"Is that it.." Nathaniel asks, his annoyance plain "..all that trouble for an empty room"

Done. Took precise shot so I can better shoot into melee.

Romon glances at the Chel, "And it smells bad too. But take heart. People usually keep nice things behind locked doors. Sometimes the trick is to find them."

The fire's warmth raises goosebumps along Muchoraks body, with unexpected speed he reflexes into a combat stance, like a great cat about to pounce, "This place is not natural, these fires should not burn as such." He peers about the room looking for things to come forth and attack Perception D20 14+8= 22 "There has been too much death down here, foul things must be at work."

Muchorak's claim about the fires is going off of no open roof area and i'm understanding them to be larger than a torch in a sconce? If i'm wrong might want to edit the above.


Muchorak senses nothing in the room ...

its a 10x5 firepit and about 4 dozen candles and no in a sealed room they shouldn't be burning..however the air is not stale or musty here so there must be decent ventilation

Leaving in a few hours to go on vacation, posting may be irregular until Sunday, although I will attempt to check in daily.

Marak seeks out the auras of magic, suspecting that the candles may be lit by illusory flame, and not actual fire.

"This room must serve some valuable purpose in order for there to be magic candles and that fire pit. Certainly it will have some defensive measures to protect it." With that, Inikai runs his hand over his equipment belt to make sure that all is intact.

Muchorak, remember that Inikai offered his potion of Mage Armor to you.

Looking into the room and back at the others, then Inikai "Your potion, will it protect me in this room?" If given a yes, Muchorak drinks the potion, then with both weapons drawn cautiously enters the room, at least the first 10 feet

Romon takes the pause before anyone enters as trepidation among the others. "Room full of dangerous traps? I guess you want me to go first." The rogue sheds his pack, bow, and quiver. Casually drawing his sword, he looks around and steps over the threshold.

Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 +2 more v. traps.


Romon scans the floor, walls and ceiling carefully and notes the distinct lack of traps..Ali scents nothing.Nathaniel staggers into the room and laughs scornfully as he turns towards the rest off you...

"Empty...a room full of nothing and this was what you barbarians were afraid off...hah..you aren't fit to shine my boo.urkkk.."his voice suddenly chokes off as a huge rent appears in his robes and a bipedal creature looking like a cross between a wolf and a goblin appears from nowhere as it rips the Beguiler apart.

Nathaniel takes 46 damage which is 16 more than is needed to kill him...

How far away is the creature from Muchorak? Can he move the five feet to get full attack on it? If he can he will move forward and swing with both blades: Longsword (+1 Magic) D20 11+6= 17 and Masterwork Shortsword D20 14+6=20 and Damages would be LS D8 2+4= 6 and SW D6 3+2=5

Now if he cannot make it to the creature and get full attack with both blades he will drink the potion from Inikai before engaging the beastie.

Inikai is stunned for the moment. Until now he has never witnessed the death of an ally, even a dubious one like Nathaniel. His mind turns to Kaliciel and wonders if she survived her flight from this horrid place. When the monster turns to face them Inikai reflexively calls on the power of Focalor to strike at it with lightning. But the sight of Nathaniel's death still affects him and he is unable to fully exert his power and the stroke of lightning is weak.

Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5) = 10 DC 15 Reflex save for half

Unfazed by death in general and never having liked the no-friend smelling man the small grey wolf nevertheless snarls feroiciously at the combination of goblin and abomination. Racing to flank the creature (AC22 with mobility) Aliwolf savagely attacks it
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 291d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 (I'm assuming her rgular and special bonus vs goblins stll applies and so added +2, didn't add anything for flank, if she gets it. Plus bite s treated as magic)


The creature avoids the worst of Inakais bolt. Muchorak steps up to it and delivers two sharp blows however the Longsword rattles off the beasts hide and the short sword whilst scoring a distint hit fails to draw blood. Ali nips round behind it allowing it to take a slash at her as she goes past (which misses) and her teeth find the mark but do not do as much damage as expected.(this isn't a goblin..it merely has some features like one)

Total inflicted on creature 9 points.

"Close the --" the cry dies on Romon's lips as Muchorak and Ali rush in. Too late now. Romon glances longingly at the bow behind him before following the others through the door. He notes how little damage Muchorak does. Merde. Pardon my elf-tongue

The rogue lines up an attack and lunges in.

Recognizing that his original protective spell on Muchorak has faded by now, Marak casts it again, linking his life to the warrior.

Shield Other, +1 deflection bonus to AC, +1 resistance bonus to saves and half of all damage taken is taken by Marak instead. Duration 4 hours.


Romon fails to even connect with the apparition before him

Before Marak can cast his protective magics the beast tears into Muchorak claws and teeth ripping at the rangers flesh

Muchorak howls in pain from the other worldly creatures natural weapons, the howl turns to rage as he retaliates with his blades...

Longsword D20 16+6= 22, Dmg D8 2+4=6 and Shortsword D20 2+6=8 (and if by some miracle that hit) Dmg D6 4+2=6

Also AC is now 19+ whatever the Mage Armor potion gives

Seeing the monster savage Muchorak brings forth fury and desperation in Inikai. He tenses his body and belows inarticulately, focusing all his will into a stroke of lightning upon the terrible creature.

Damage: Reflex save DC 15 for half.
3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 6) = 15


Muchorak didn't drink the potion as he only had to take a five foot step as per the instructions he gave in the first post in this combat...

Maraks spell washes over Muchorak then Inakais second lightning bolt crashes into the creature....

Reflex save1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

...which manages to twist it's body away from the full force of the bolt.(7 damage)

Muchorak sinks his longsword deep into the beasts flesh the magical blade drawing blood(6 damage..total damage on creature now 22 points)

The damage done the Shoanti amazes Romon. How is he still standing? Romon maneuvers around the goblin-beast. get to flanking position. What am I still doing here?

Romon lines up an attack. Maybe this will distract it.
