"I don't like that the three doors are so close to one another. Does anyone have something that could be used to wedge two of the doors shut while we open the other one? If there is no threat behind the opened door we could move the wedge over when we open another one."
Inikai examines the doors and their markings to see if he can determine anything about them.
Romon
Romon muses on the last few rooms. They are a class of rooms he hopes to avoid for his entire career. Cells, torture chamber, could this be the guardroom or quarters for the torturer? He nods at the doors. "They're probably just closets."
Kaliciel
"Who knows what these people kept in their closets though..." Kallie suggested. "I don't know, couldn't we break something off of all that torture equipment and use it to wedge the doors shut?" It was clear by 'we' she meant 'you'. The thought of touching any of those devices was making her break out in goosebumps.
Romon
"Let me check them before we move the table." Romon quickly goes to the lefthand (east) door and begins to search for traps. He is a trifle impatient with the slow progress so far and doesn't take quite as much time as he might. After looking for traps, he listens to see if anything is making noise behind the door. Then repeats the process at the center and right-hand doors.
He reports his findings to the others and stands ready to open the righthand (west) door.
Listen at doors. Left to right (1d20+7=16, 1d20+7=27, 1d20+7=27)
Check for traps, left to right (1d20=11, 1d20=15, 1d20=11) oops, almost forgot +7 on find traps --> 18, 23, 18.

Marak addresses the air in a frustrated tone, "Or maybe we can bring down a local stableboy to open the doors for us. That would be much safer..." He doesn't bother to whisper, obviously. "Oh wait, we're supposed to be the brave adventurers. I forgot for a moment."
"Roman, whenever you are ready, feel free to unlock whichever of the doors you wish. I have divined no magical protections upon the doors or those seals, so any difficulties will be purely mechanical."
"I'll open the doors, so that Muchorak and Ali are not impeded by the action and their hand, or, uh, whatever are free." he stumbles over the last, somewhat spoiling his haughty delivery as he realizes at the last that Ali doesn't *have* any hands, in her current form...
Once Roman has unlocked one of the doors, and unless somebody else protests, Marak will stand to the side of it and pull it open, trying to leave room for others to take effective action in the confined space.
Romon
Romon smiles confidently at the wetern door as he unrolls his tool pouch. He examines the locks and selects two picks to start. His brow furrows with concentration as he feels for the pins of the lock and tries to manipulate them.
*** If that's not good enough ***
*** If that's not good enough ***
If the door opens, let it be as Marak said.
Romon
A crestfallen Romon stares at the bones. The real goods are always behind the locked door. All we have here are bones. Fortunately other doors beckon.
I'll try the center door, Monte.
Again Roman pits his lockpits and wits against the latching mechanism.

Again take 20 if the roll doesn't get us there or shamefacedly admit failure if that doesn't work.
Marak Quan

While Roman is examining the lock, Marak takes a moment to examine the three-armed skeleton.
Is it man-sized or larger? Does that arm attach on the left shoulder, right shoulder or somewhere else? He'll make a Heal (19) check and a Knowledge (arcana) (8) check to see if he can figure out whether this was a naturally occuring three-armed creature, or one that was surgically or magically modified.
In any event, whichever door is unlocked next, Marak wastes no time in opening it as well.
Muchorak "Windstriker"
What kind of creature was that? Three arms it had, what monstrosities did this demons maintain? Muchorak's came back to the current situation, what is behind the next door may be alive or even more horrifing...
Muchorak "Windstriker"
Seeing the second skeletal remains, "What are these things?!" His face showing a confused look, "I have seen remains of many creatures but have not seen any like this."
Kaliciel
"Maybe...maybe it was just a birth defect?" Kallie suggested in absolute ignorance as to what it really was. She kept her distance from it, eyeing it and whispering a spell to make sure there wasn't anything strange about it.
Casting: Detect Magic out of nervousness and idle hands.

"As far as I can tell, the three-armed fellow was indeed born that way, not surgically changed. But I can't really be sure. In any event, like the remains in the cells, whoever he was, he deserves a better burial than to be abandoned in this horrid place." Marak sounds less-than-thrilled with the conclusion. "As much as I would like to have never seen this place, it is clear that I will be compelled to return later to arrange more respectful final arrangements for these poor souls."
Romon
"Maybe the lord of this place collected freaks. Let's try the last door."
same routine, if 15 doesn't work, try take 20, if that doesn't do it, admit defeat
Door number 3. Ready when you are Monty.
Kaliciel
"People that deserved to have their empire fall, I say." Kallie shivered at Romon's words. The thought of these people being trapped in those chambers and left to starve bothered her in some ways more than the torture chamber at their backs.
The romanticized image she saw in the glaive-bearing statue lost some of its luster when she thought about what life must have really been like in such a civilization.
Inikai
"These things were not men and have been dead long enough for only bones to remain. This makes me wonder what Sanpoint was founded on. How long algo were these tunnels used last? We should speak to [name of that sage guy who studies Thassilonian ruins] we we finish our work here."
"Let's move on."
Alisebett
Ali sniffs and looks at the skeletons to see if she can recognize (1d20+4=15) anything in them from the natural world.
She is more than ready to move on though and waits impatiently at the exit for the rest of the party.

Muchorak moves adjacent to the Eastern door, ready for Romon to be done with his work and Marak to open the door...
we checked the first time we were in this room. pretty sure they were negative. we should be able to open the door when everyone is ready.
DM Wellard
The door stands still and silent as before. you open it with your usual caution and find yet another set of stairs this one descending steeply..the stairs seem to end in a more open space however
...you are beginning to get the distinct impression that the Thassilonians liked warrens.

Looking briefly back to her companions and then again at the scroll, she tried to sense if there was anything magical about it, or around it.
Casting Detect Magic
She called out to the others, "Hey, there's a scroll here. And it looks fresher than everything else in this room." She moved closer to it, peering as well as she could about the desk as if she had any idea of what to look for concerning traps.

Marak re-arctivates his detect magic SLA, since it's probably faded since he checked the sigil-marked doors.
"Indeed, and it appears to be magical. It might be prudent to stuff it in your basket and we can examine it when we have time later." Marak says. "Given the location, it's likely something that would have been useful to the people who frequented this place, such as a spell to divine the thoughts of one of their prisoners." he says, authoritatively.
Romon
"Kali, wait! Don't touch it." Romon hurries over to tha table. How did I miss that? I'm focussed too much on the doors. "It could have just been accidentally caught under this desk, or it could have been placed there, perhaps to trigger a trap.
Romon examines the table and area around the scroll, especially looking for signs of recent activity or movement.

Oh, would the types of animals on the continent changed in 1000 years? Sorry if it wasn't clear, Ali was trying to tell if the bones were of natural creatures or something abnormal, not natural.

Back to the plot
you descend the stairs as quietly as possible and find yourselves in a largish room.
The ceiling of this strangely cold chamber arches to a vaulted height of twenty feet. The floor contains eleven wooden lids strewn haphazardly over eleven five-foot-wide pits in the ground. From the darkness within these pits echo up strange shuffling sounds and, every so often,a low moan.
The creature here does not seem to have sensed your approach.
you get a surprise round..the creature is at the far end of the room
Marak Quan

If Marak can move through friendly squares, he does so as necessary. I can never remember the rules on that...
As soon as he's got room to do so, Marak moves forward, avoiding stepping on the wooden trap doors, twenty feet towards the creature. His longsword once again slides from the sheath on his back and moves another 15 feet forward and attacks (if in range), while he casually drops the ranseur he is holding and draws his dagger (as part of his movement action).

Romon stares at the bulky creature as the others advance, then follows them down to the chamber's floor, stepping carefully to avoid noise. quick stealthUgly bugger. As he moves he slides his sword from the scabbard. He swings right to tread along the wall. Wonder what's in the holes? and through that archway.
Romon will slide along the righthand wall. He wants to check the passageway heading south.

Inikai stops and focuses all his attention on the creature for a moment. He tenses then relaxes. A moment later he draws his bow.

Muchorak "Windstriker"
Muchorak will move to a position placing himself between the creature and Marak keeping 10 ft away so as to force the creature to come to him. Muchorak will have his Dodge against this creature. Muchorak will also be making a conscious effort to not step on any of the wooden boarded areas.
