The Kingdom of Talingarde is the most noble, virtuous, peaceful nation in the known world. This is the story of how you burned this insipid paradise to the ground. It’s only fair. They burned you first.
They condemned you for your wicked deeds. They branded you. They shipped you to the worst prison in the kingdom. In three days, you die. In three days, the do-gooders pray they’ll be rid of you.
They’ve given you three days. The fools, that’s more than you need to break out. And then, it will be their turn to face the fire.
Hello all,
I've been away from play by post for a while, due to some real life concerns, but I feel that now is the time to get a game started again. To that end, I am proposing to run a game using the Way of the Wicked campaign path from Fire Mountain Games. Yep, that's right, it's an adventure path designed specifically for evil characters! If you've ever wanted to play a wicked PC, this game will be right up your alley.
I'm looking for 5 or 6 players who will be able to post once a day, on average. Characters will start at 1st level, and should be evil in alignment. Now, please note that LE or NE will be much more appropriate for this campaign, as the characters will still need to be able to work together toward a common goal, and the CE 'I'll do whatever I feel like'-type will likely break the campaign and ruin the fun. Please keep this in mind when submitting a concept.
Yes, I'll be wanting character concepts, not statted out character sheets. This is not a first-come first-served process. If you're interested, please review the following background information, then post with answers to the following questions:
Introduction
Guilty. You are a lawbreaker – the worst of the worst. Too dangerous to live amongst the good people of Talingarde, they dragged you in chains before a magistrate and condemned you. They sent you to the worst prison in the land and there they forever marked you. They held you down and branded you with a runic F. You are forsaken.
You won’t be at Branderscar Prison for long. Branderscar is only a holding pen. In three days – justice comes. In three days – everything ends. What a pity. If only there was a way out of this stinking rat-hole. If only there was a way to escape. If only…
No. No one has ever escaped from Branderscar Prison. This is where your story ends. Or is it?
What is Talingarde?
Talingarde is the most virtuous, peaceful, noble nation in the world today. This land is ruled by King Markadian V called the Brave of House Darius. He has only one heir – the beautiful princess Bellinda. This benevolent monarchy is heavily intertwined with the Church of Mitra, the Shining Lord. You are from Talingarde. This is your home. You have lived here your entire life. And if they gave you half a chance, you would have your revenge on all of them.
Who is Mitra?
Mitra, the so-called Shining Lord, is the god of the sun, bravery, honor, justice, charity and other such pusillanimous rubbish. The Church of Mitra is the preeminent religion of Talingarde these days. The Knights of the Alerion, the elite warriors of Talingarde, are a Mitran order. The monks of St. Macarius, who travel the land healing the sick and the helping the needy, are also a Mitran order. The House of Darius, the royal family of Talingarde, are devout followers of Mitra.
It wasn’t always this way. Before the Darians took over, Talingarde worshipped an entire pantheon of deities. Preeminent among those deities was Asmodeus, Prince of Hell, Lord of Ambition and Order. Now it is forbidden to worship Asmodeus. To do so is to be condemned. The Mitrans destroyed all the Asmodean temples and burned his books and priests. There are no followers of Asmodeus anymore in Talingarde – at least none who publicly acknowledge their devotion. Devout Mitrans will not say the name Asmodeus. He is simply “The Fallen” or “The Enemy”.
How did they catch me?
That is up to you. You must pick a crime (see the list provided below) that you were condemned for. They are only two requirements – you got caught and you really did it. It’s not surprising that the Talireans (the people of Talingarde) caught you, though. Talingarde is a fiercely lawful and good society. Crime (especially heinous crime like yours) is not tolerated.
Player Questions:
1. Do you have previous pbp experience as player and/or DM? If so, on Paizo's boards, or elsewhere?
2. Where do you live (specifically, in what time zone)?
3. How often can you expect to post (barring illness, vacation, etc.)?
Character Questions:
1. Who are you? (Name, race, class)
2. What do you look like?
3. How would you describe your personality?
4. What crime have you committed to cause your incarceration in Branderscar Prison? (Note that your choice will convey a mechanical benefit, but I want the initial decision based on role-playing and background concerns, not the potential benefit. If you'd like more fluff about any of the following options, feel free to ask. Note also, the omission of crimes like rape, sexual assault, child abuse, and the like. The exclusion of acts of this nature is deliberate, and not open for negotiation.)
Arson
Attempted Murder
Blasphemy
Consorting with Dark Powers (Witchcraft)
Desecration
Desertion
Dueling Unto Death
Extortion
Forgery
Fraud
Grave Robbery
Heresy
High Theft
High Treason
Kidnapping
Murder
Piracy
Sedition
Slave-Taking
Slave Trading
Finally, some notes about character creation: Again, I'm not looking for a character sheet right now, but someone will invariably ask for planning purposes.
-Level one PCs
-20 point stat buy
-Monstrous races might seem to be a natural fit for this game, but actually not so much. There are a lot of elements of infiltration and skullduggery which will make monstrous PCs a hindrance. Otherwise, no racial restrictions.
-Classes: Paladins, obviously are out of the question. An anti-paladin could work, and does not have to be CE...they can be any evil alignment (House rule). If someone wants to work toward the Assassin PrC, that would be a great choice. Clerics or Inquisitors would be well served to worship Asmodeus. Barbarians and druids may be a bit tricky to make fit in the confines of the larger group. Rangers, consider Humans or Good Outsiders as favored enemies. Infernal bloodline sorcerers would do particularly well (though any bloodline should be fine). No gunslingers, ninjas, or samurai.
-You start with no equipment, and no money. You're in prison, after all.
-No traits (again, there will be a mechanical benefit based on your choice of crime)
-Take two extra skill points to start, as compensation for the lack of equipment.
Recruiting will remain open until Saturday March 10th. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Are you Setting this In Golarion? Would the Red Mantis Assassin Prestiage Class from the Inner Sea world Guide be Ok to use? I am very Intrested in Playing one

Character Questions
1. Alouetta Malifice, LE Human Female Urban Ranger

3.Borderline Sociopath. She was Picked up by the Red Mantis' as a baby, after her "big time" thug father and his gang was Put down by the Assassins. Mr. Swagger |

If you are looking for newer player or players who have not had a chance to PbP then I might not try to get in. I have been in quiet a few PBP's. I am actually in 5 now that are active, and I am running two games. I post at least once a day barring the random dropped internet connection, which seems to last for hours, but that only happens about twice a month.
Will I be more likely or less likely to get in due to my number of PBP games?

loimprevisto |

Oh... I'm very interested in this one. Dotting for now. I'll have a full character writeup to you soon, but here's my player answers for you:
1. I've PbP'd for a while, initially on Yahoo groups and later at rpol.net. I'm involved in several games here at Pazio, GMing one and playing the others.
2. I'm in England, in the GMT timezone.
3. Daily or more. I have an odd work schedule, so occasionally I may go a day without an update but I'm fairly reliable. You can check out my other games, I haven't had any complaints yet...
I'm interested in an orphan raised by Mitran monks who's crime was consorting with dark powers. I'm considering a few different ways of writing him/her up conceptually... do hags and changelings exist in your setting? I've wanted to run a summoner from the APG for a while, possibly a synthesist. Would you allow that class/archetype? If not I'd probably go with a monk.

Player questions:
1. Do you have previous pbp experience as player and/or DM? If so, on Paizo's boards, or elsewhere?
Very little, it's not easy to get a spot :)
2. Where do you live (specifically, in what time zone)?
PST (california)
3. How often can you expect to post (barring illness, vacation, etc.)?
Once a day
Character questions:
1. Who are you? (Name, race, class)
Timmenelos, Elf Magus
2. What do you look like?
TBD

TBD

Sounds like dueling unto death would be a "good" choice. I will elaborate more once I thinks this a bit more.

Are you Setting this In Golarion? Would the Red Mantis Assassin Prestiage Class from the Inner Sea world Guide be Ok to use? I am very Intrested in Playing one
This game is not set in Golarion, but having said that, I think the Red Mantis organization should still fit in well. Some of the fluff would probably need to be tweaked, but the mechanics of the PrC would be fine.

Cry Havoc! |

Will I be more likely or less likely to get in due to my number of PBP games?
Neither, really. :) It doesn't matter how many other games you're in, as long as they won't hinder you from participating in this one. I'll probably take a look at your other games (if they're on these boards) to get a feel for your posting style.

I would allow a Changeling Summoner, yes.

Snatcherbanderwocky |

1. I've DM'd and played in PbP games. Paizo and plothook.net are the wheres.
2. I'm in the central time zone, in New Orleans.
3. I can post at least once a day.
Character
1. Nicholas Shenevar, AKA The Chain Street Choker, Hands, Poppa Grip
Human mid-fifties male, Nick is a large man known for his big paws and his method of murder, strangulation. Nick is a frequent hire for when a particularly nasty message needs to be sent. Nick would be a monk/rogue mix with the martial artist archetype.
2. Nearly 7 feet of trouble, Nick dresses in plain clothing. His hair crept into white and he keeps it close-cropped and neat. He's quiet and never showy, Mitra only knows where he spends all of his coin. It's kind of a moot point now that he's rotting in a cell, though.
3. Nick is low-key and not afraid to throw the first punch in a fight. In fact, he has a tendency to do so, knowing that it's usually the guy who hits first that ends up walking away from a scrap.

Cry Havoc! |

Here's a fun character I put together ages ago for a failed Second Darkness game. I know it's a 3.5 class, but any chance it might be allowed?
I like the look of the character, but I don't think I'd allow the Factotum class, sorry. If you want to convert to a PF Rogue or something, I'd definitely consider you.

A cavalier would generally be fine. Of course, some Orders are more appropriate than others.

Price |

Price sneers at her conviction on the charge of Blasphemy. She is guilty of so much more: Basphemy, Heresy, Desecration, Consorting with Dark Powers, Murder, Attempted Murder, and even Arson... What can she say? It's been an eventful week. The only crime she committed that tinges her with any sense of shame is Attempted Murder. The 'Attempted' part rankles in that it shows a disturbing lack of follow-through.
Player Q's
1. Do you have previous pbp experience as player and/or DM? If so, on Paizo's boards, or elsewhere?
Yep. I have played in several PbP's here and I am currently DMing a relatively long-running campaign. (approaching 5k posts and running for over a year now)
2. Where do you live (specifically, in what time zone)?
Seattle, WA. PST (GMT-8)
3. How often can you expect to post (barring illness, vacation, etc.)?
I will post at least once a day and often more frequently depending on what is happening in game. :)
Character Q's
1. Who are you? (Name, race, class)
Miss Given Name Withheld Price, a LE female Aasimar Inquisitor of Asmodeus.
2. What do you look like?
Price is an average looking, average sized, brunette. She purposefully tries not to stand out.
3. How would you describe your personality?
Price cultivates a 'Suzy Homemaker' image to conceal the truth - that she has the heart of a Black-Tipped Reef Shark and the morals of a Venture Capitalist. Price is very polite, accommodating, and pleasant... until she determines it is the right moment to NOT be those things. Price is not a rabid dog evil-doer. She is methodical, practical, and team-oriented (her goal is the restoration of Asmodeus to religious supremacy - full stop).
She could happily discuss how to bake the perfect apple-pie while shoving a wagon-load of toddlers into a raging river.
=======================
I know you are just looking for character concepts but Price is someone I created for another Way of the Wicked game that hasn't worked out. Her story and background are all on her character sheet. Feel free to ignore the hard data.

Azubah |

This is a character I created for another AP. I would make significant alterations to bring him in line for this one however.
Player Questions:
1. Do you have previous pbp experience as player and/or DM? If so, on Paizo's boards, or elsewhere?
I have played in six games but now am down to only one. I dropped out of three games ,after giving notice, due to demands on my time in RL. Two of the remaining games died.
2. Where do you live (specifically, in what time zone)?
I am in the Eastern US (GMT-5)
3. How often can you expect to post (barring illness, vacation, etc.)?
I can post at least once per day, sometimes more during weekdays.
Character Questions:
1. Who are you? (Name, race, class)
Azubah is an unkempt youth with a long face and thinning hair. But his dry, flaky skin, yellow teeth and watery eyes give him the appearance of a man many years older. Quite often he stops suddenly and looks about while twiching his fingers. He frequently mutters to himself or at least seems to be moving his lips as if in speech when no one is there. When he speaks with others he strikes most people as distracted and sometimes rude. Very often Azubah will make inappropriate comments or laugh at inopportune moments in a way that suggests he is unaware of common social conventions or that he simply disregards them. Azubah is a human oracle of Bones but I might change that to Dark Tapestry.
2. What do you look like? [ooc]5'9" with an average to thin build and a homely face.
3. How would you describe your personality? Azubah is a self-centered, selfish, callous misanthrope. On those occasions that he can see someone else's point of view he is likely to disregard it unless it would be to his advantage to do so. He delights in probing into the inner secrets of supposedly virtuos men and women in order to expose them or threaten to do so. He feels that this gives him power over others.
4. What crime have you committed to cause your incarceration in Branderscar Prison?
Desecration, Consorting with Dark Powers, Blasphemy, Grave Robbing...Oh which one did I get caught for? That would be hersey. But, in my defense it is the truth. You see the church Mitras is a den of vipers. The monks of St. Macarius are nothing but brigands, seducers and panderers. This is why I got along so well with them until my money ran out. (They also cheat at cards).
And if the holy order of St. Marcarius is corrupt to the marrow it is simply just another proof that Mitras requires no virtue in his servants despite what the hypocrits of House Darius proclaim and the witless peasants believe. Why hide the truth?

AdamWarnock |

Very much interested, never played an evil character before.
Player Questions:
1. Do you have previous pbp experience as player and/or DM? If so, on Paizo's boards, or elsewhere?
I've played in a few games that went belly up and I am in several that are still active. All of those are on the boards here
2. Where do you live (specifically, in what time zone)?
CST (GMT -6)
3. How often can you expect to post (barring illness, vacation, etc.)?
At least two or three times a day.
I plan on playing up the mischievous and nervous parts, but there will be times where she is down right vicious.
Character Questions:
1. Who are you? (Name, race, class)
Gwyndolin Maulsen, NE Human female, Rogue
2. What do you look like?
A thin and lanky girl sits leaning against the hull of the ship. She only comes up a few inches over five feet as she stands. The swaying doesn't see to keep her off-balanced at all and her step is light, almost light enough to mistaken for an elf. Her black hair is in a braid that reaches to the middle of her back. Her midnight blue eyes seem to take in much more in a glance than most do studying intently.
3. How would you describe your personality?
Gwyn is a calculating, mischievous robber. While she will openly downplay her own capabilities, she is fully aware of what she is capable of.She loves pushing herself, and only targeted nobles with lots protective layers around their baubles when she was free. Not that it really helped against someone like Gwyn. There are only two things that make the young rogue truly nervous: being the center of attention and being around men that are bigger, and stronger than her.
4. What crime have you committed to cause your incarceration in Branderscar Prison?
High Theft
*sigh*"I suppose you will be wanting my story next." The thin woman lets out another sigh as her eyes glazed over. "Well, I bit off more than I could chew. I got lucky and managed to sneak into the princess's room. Since I was there I thought I'd get some souvenirs while she slept. Well, Princess Goody-to-shoes was awake and caught me with my hand in her underwear drawer (you would not believe what she wears under those dresses) and starts calling for the guards. I managed to relieve one of the guards of his pants, and another of his fingers," a smile spreads across her face as she relives the memory of one guard howling in pain as another turned beet-red as he tried to cover himself up in front of the princess, then it fades as she continues. "But they caught me. Tried me for high theft, and shipped me out here."

Xanos |

Player Questions:
1. Do you have previous pbp experience as player and/or DM? If so, on Paizo's boards, or elsewhere?
Yes, extensive. Feel free to look at my Campaigns tab. I've been at it for years and write very well.
2. Where do you live
California, GMT -8
3. How often can you expect to post
Sunday is the only day I consistently have trouble posting. Every other day I can be expected to be able to post, more than once per day if necessary.
Character Questions:
1. Who are you?
Xanos, human necromancer (wizard)
2. What do you look like?
A gaunt man in dark flowing robes wearing a simple white funerary mask, an old burial tradition.
3. How would you describe your personality?
Dispassionate. Xanos has little to no compassion or understanding of things like sympathy or the sanctity of life. He has a strange obsession with the concept and notion of freedom, and genuinely thinks the living are limited and oppressed by the limitations of being alive. To him, the living are varying degrees of self-deluded and annoying, and the dead are tools and weapons. He wants to someday overcome every shackle, and while he would prefer to do it as simply and painlessly as possible, he certainly won't shed any tears for anyone who gets in his way.
4. What crime have you committed to cause your incarceration in Branderscar Prison?
Graverobbing, corpse desecration, and spreading plague.
He freely admitted his crimes without any hint of remorse, but did not commit them out of maliciousness. Plague spreading was accidental, but the closest thing anyone got to an apology was a half-hearted shrug.

Mr. Swagger |

Are you allowing Official Pathfinder material outside of the APG, Ultimate Magic, and Ultimate Combat?
Monstrous races might seem to be a natural fit for this game, but actually not so much. There are a lot of elements of infiltration and skullduggery which will make monstrous PCs a hindrance. Otherwise, no racial restrictions.
Do you run a game where monstrous races are attacked on sight, or do people just generally distrust them, and give them a wide berth.
Example:Drow in FR would probably be attacked first and questioned later.
Teiflings in Golarion might get treated like second class citizens, but people don't draw weapons as soon as they see one.
At this time I am considering an orc, goblin or hobgoblin if I play a monstrous race.
They are not the front runners, but they are possible candidates.

Mad Beetle |

Player Questions:
1. Do you have previous pbp experience as player and/or DM? If so, on Paizo's boards, or elsewhere?
I have no experience with PbP, other than reading that of others some times.
2. Where do you live (specifically, in what time zone)?
I am in GMT +1 (Denmark)
3. How often can you expect to post (barring illness, vacation, etc.)?
At the very least, once per day.
Character Questions:
1. Who are you? (Name, race, class)
Eban Redeye, Half-Orc Black Dragon Sorcerer
2. What do you look like?
Eban is a tall, muscular youth with dark green skin, shoulder length black, dirty hair and eerie red irisis in his eyes
3. How would you describe your personality?
Eban is the kind of man, that never thinks his actions through, and seldomly cares who he hurts in the process. Topping this off with his bad temper and the constant feeling of entitlement and superiority that came with his sorcerous powers, you have a callous brute that gives off a feeling of constant, barely contained, rage.
Eban killed three men. He also burned down an inn in the process.
It all happend after his mother died of sickness, she had been the only one in town that had treated him with any form for kindness, the rest had shunned him or outright ridiculed him for being a freak.
After her burial, Eban had planned to pack everyting he owned in a backpack, sell what he couldnt take with him, and start travelling. He came as far as the last inn, just before the gate, when he was hasseld by a group of drunken youths. Eban did his best to ignore them, and it worked, barely, until one of them started talking about his mother and the others chimed in. That put Eban over the edge, and as he turned around to start giving chase, something started to burn in his blood, and was looking for release. A second later, and the youths were blackend caricatures of men, lying in the steaming mud. And the inn behind them was on fire. While Eban stood, stunned by his handywork, the guards came out of the gatehouse and hurridly put him in manacles.
Question: How would you rule the Claws from the draconic bloodline, Are they as written (Round/Day) or do they last longer (Minutes, hours, at will)?

Eben TheQuiet |

Dotting for interest, and I have one big question before I toss up my character.
-Monstrous races might seem to be a natural fit for this game, but actually not so much. There are a lot of elements of infiltration and skullduggery which will make monstrous PCs a hindrance. Otherwise, no racial restrictions.
What are your thoughts on a LE natural lycanthrope (if we remove the DR element altogether) werewolf Human Urban Ranger?
Infiltration and skullduggery would have to be an acquired skill-set for a guy like this. His ability to walk around in human form lets him side-step the awkwardness of being a monster in a big city like Talingarde, while moonlighting as a murderer of the city's inhabitants. He'd see the city as his "territory", and it would really give him a reason to work with the group -- he'd be looking to rebuild his 'pack' to gain control of his territory. I really like the idea of this guy, and would love to play him, but I'd like to know if it's something you're cool with before I submit him as my submission.
I'm open to working with you to make the mechanics work in a way you're comfortable with so that there is no power disparity between this character and his party-members. Let me know. :)

Mark Sweetman |

Dotting up for interest while I mull over my character concept.
Player Questions:
1. Do you have previous pbp experience as player and/or DM? If so, on Paizo's boards, or elsewhere?
A reasonable quantity of experience on these boards. Currently DM'ing six PbPs and running players in another ten... or so...
2. Where do you live (specifically, in what time zone)?
Reside in Malaysia in GMT +8
3. How often can you expect to post (barring illness, vacation, etc.)?
Weekdays are good as I'm online during work and can sneak posts in there as well as at home.
Weekends I only get online once a day, but manage to keep up with everything without too much hassle.
My current thoughts are a Human Cleric of Asmodeus - with both the Hidden Priest archetype from Inner Sea Magic, and the Evangelist archetype from UC.
His crime would likely be sedition.

Cry Havoc! |

Are you looking for a balanced group(divine, arcane, damage dealer, and skills guy), or will you just pick the 4 you like the best?
I'll definitely pick the four I like best, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't also be influenced by a desire for balance (at least to some extent).

Cry Havoc! |

Are you allowing Official Pathfinder material outside of the APG, Ultimate Magic, and Ultimate Combat?
Possibly, yes. Just run your ideas by me, specifically, and I'll let you know.
Do you run a game where monstrous races are attacked on sight, or do people just generally distrust them, and give them a wide berth.
The pure and noble do-gooders of Talingarde are quite likely to attack 'monsters' on sight, I'm afraid.

Cry Havoc! |

What are your thoughts on a LE natural lycanthrope (if we remove the DR element altogether) werewolf Human Urban Ranger?
I'm open to working with you to make the mechanics work in a way you're comfortable with so that there is no power disparity between this character and his party-members. Let me know. :)
My first impression, honestly...I'm on the fence. I really, really like this idea conceptually. But on the other hand, I'm concerned that the mechanics would get super fiddly.
*mulling, mulling*
Eh, concept and flavor win out. You've got the green light.

Kalina Jakes |

1. Do you have previous pbp experience as player and/or DM? If so, on Paizo's boards, or elsewhere?
No. Just joined a few that are starting out.
2. Where do you live (specifically, in what time zone)?
USA, EST
3. How often can you expect to post (barring illness, vacation, etc.)?
Multiple times per day. As fast as everyone can keep up, to be honest...
Character Questions:
1. Who are you? (Name, race, class)
Sgt. Kalina Jakes, Human Fighter (Two-Weapon Fighter)
Lately, auxiliary to the Knights of Alerion
2. What do you look like?
5'10'', close cropped black hair. Arms and legs strengthened by years of training at arms (and their use, in legal and less-than-legal avenues). Penetrating brown eyes, and a casual smirk that looks to outside observers more like a sneer.
3. How would you describe your personality?
To Whom It Concerns,
This letter travels with the person of one Sergeant Kalina Jakes, fugitive from the law and the military forces of Talingarde, and now prisoner of His Majesty’s Knights of Alerion. Once you make the acquaintance of this harpy you will understand the danger she represents, so I will not bore you with the standard warnings – suffice to say, hold her under guard and in the keeping of at least two trusted men at all times. Sgt. Jakes has sown discord among His Majesty's forces, facilitated lewd and illicit behavior by His Royal officer corps, and has been accused of transgressions of Talingarde law both extreme and petty.
Let me suggest, humbly, that this prisoner not find her way into the court system. Should her escort be waylaid by bandits en route, which would be a most unfortunate breach of provincial security, no doubt, but even in the boundaries of peaceful Talingarde banditry can never be entirely stamped out. I am also taken to understand that this Jakes woman suffers from a most delicate constitution as a result of her month on the run from the King’s justice. She could very well take ill in the dungeons prior to her trial.
With that I have done my duty. Fair warning.

Major Hoben Hazenfratz
4th Battalion, 3rd Brigade
The King’s Own Knights of Alerion
-------------------------------------------
“As to the count of dueling unto death, how do you so plead?”
“Not guilty.”
“Not guilty? There were thirty men in the yard as witnesses!”
“Well, it wasn’t much of a duel. The pig died in three cuts…” There was muted murmur and a chuckle or two amongst the assembled justicars. Kalina sat bound to a chair in their midst, wearing only a light shift, shackled hand and foot. With a toss of her head, she flicked her dark bangs out of her eyes. The chief justicar went on.
“You are additionally accused of murder, attempted murder, high theft, malicious sedition, and desertion. What say you to these charges?”
“It was self-defense. My hand slipped. The horse was mine own.”
“And the malicious sedition?”
“Well, it ain’t exactly malicious, is it, if it was said out of love for our glorious nation here?”
“I quote, ‘You tell that inbred monkey Markadian that if he sends me out there again with another unit, I will march alone to the palace and bugger him with my sword.’”
“Well, I think a change in leadership would be great for the people.”
“Your final charge is desertion. You are accused of abandoning your unit on campaign, itself a capital crime.”
“There weren’t much of a unit left. Didn’t figure the stack of corpses would object.” The justicars muttered among themselves. After a moment, the chief justicar looked up.
“It is the judgment of this tribunal that you shall be held, without bond or bail, at Branderscar Prison, for the duration of your processing. It is the further judgment of this tribunal that subsequent prosecution by the Knights of Alerion for your crimes against that order is both a waste of resources and unnecessary. Due to the extent of your crimes, the overwhelming nature of the evidence against you, and your revealing flight from the King’s justice, it is the decision of this tribunal that, without possibility of reprieve or parole, you be in three days’ time hanged until death on the premises of Branderscar Prison. It is your right under the laws of this land to enter a final comment for the record.”
“Bugger you all, I ain’t being hanged!”
“May Mitra, bright and just, have mercy upon your soul…”
----------------------
Kalina Jakes is a career soldier, having served for three years as a member of various auxiliary units supporting the Order of the Knights of Alerion on campaign against goblin raids. Prior to that, she is alleged to have been involved in bandit activity in the outlying provinces. A trained two-weapon fighter, she is deadly with a longsword and shortsword, compensating for her lack of a man's strength with speed, surprise, and sheer aggressiveness. Thrust into a man's world, she has responded the only way she knows -- by being a right bastard and taking what she can for herself.
No man or woman believes themselves to be doing evil. Any evil acts she has committed she can readily explain away as being absolutely necessary and otherwise justly deserved. She has the rare advantages her gender possesses to take advantage of the desires of fellow soldiers and commanding officers for her own ends. She tolerates no condescension from them and as the record shows, will back up her threats with force and her skill at arms.
She is reckless, driven, and often a danger to those around her. The kingdom of Talingarde in truth would be much safer should she be removed from its list of problems, by exile or other means. As a result of her recent troubles, she now nurses a deep grudge against the Knights of Alerion specifically, Talingarde's professional soldiery more generally, and the regime of King Markadian itself. During her recent trip in chains to prison, she has often dreamed of scaling the palace walls and tossing the head of Princess Bellinda to pavement far below...
4. What crime have you committed to cause your incarceration in Branderscar Prison? (Note that your choice will convey a mechanical benefit, but I want the initial decision based on role-playing and background concerns, not the potential benefit. If you'd like more fluff about any of the following options, feel free to ask.
Attempted Murder (two men-at-arms stabbed fleeing from the King's justice in Marionburg village)
Murder (Col. Brathwaite, CO of 2nd Brigade, Alerion Auxiliaries, in flagrante delicto)
High Theft (two cavalry horses, property of His Majesty)
Malicious Sedition (comments re: His royal Majesty, related to judicial officers by former comrades after Sgt. Jakes' capture)
(Sgt. Jakes was the sole survivor of her company)
Primary - Desertion

Cry Havoc! |

A note for everyone: Many of you have selected multiple crimes for your character submission, as per their reason for imprisonment. That's terrific, it adds a wonderful layer of malice and menace to your would-be villains. However, if applicable, could you please select one as your primary crime, as this will allow me to assign the proper bonus, should your character be selected.
Thanks!

I made a Tiefling sorcerer for the last two times this game was recruiting. I'd like to submit him, but he's a tiefling....
The alias can be found here: Vladimir Velrusso The fluff is at the bottom under (Background/Crime, Appearance, Personality, Role in the party). His stats aren't too important and I'll re-work them if the racial choice gets the green-light. Otherwise I'll submit the same character as either a human or a synthesis summoner along with an alternate character submission to fill whatever role is most lacking among your choices.
I've skimmed the preview of the AP and really like the idea of a fallen noble from a house that used to worship Asmodeus before the rise of Mitra and the outlawing of devil worship. I would play LE, but am very interested in the Souldrinker PrC without the alignment restrictions I'd go LE.
Question about Anti-Paladins: Would you allow an anti-paladin to take the Oath of Vengeance? Modified of course to suite the anti-paladins class abilities.
I'll submit something spiffy by tonight. :)

@Price/stormraven: Didn't you and Cain get accepted into the Way of the Wicked game Nostrus was hosting? Doubling down on the wickedness or did the game die?
My offer still stands on combining back-stories from the last time this game was recruiting if we're both lucky enough to be accepted into the game. *Tips top-hat and adjusts monocle*

Player Questions:
I have PbP experience as a player and GM on Paizo.
My time zone is EST
I expect to post at least once a day. If I ever get a real life gaming going I might not post on Saturday or Sunday, but I will try.
Character questions
1.I am really bad and slow with names. That is normally the last thing I figure out, but I will have one before the deadline.
2. 6'4 240, muscular. I might give him tattoos. I don't know yet. He has jet black hair. He always looks upset even though he rarely gets upset.
3. If I go with the battle oracle he will be a no non-sense type of guy who has a “business-like” attitude. Work first, play later. He is never mean for the sake of being mean, but he can be somewhat cold when things have to be done. It is difficult to upset him, but once he gets upset he holds grudges, and takes them farther than they need to be taken which is why he is in the situation he is in now. He will most likely be LE
Time Oracle: He has a great interest in the planes, and other scholarly pursuits, but only in what they can do for him. He knows his affinity with time affords him great advantages, and he makes sure he gets everything he can without caring too much for what it does to others.
4 Battle Oracle: He was actually a low ranking officer in charge of a bunch of field medics. His crime was allowing a noble and a member of the government to die when he could have easily prevented it. They thought he was in on it.
Time Oracle: He is in trouble for dueling to the death on several occasions, trafficking with fiends which I am assuming is as bad as witchcraft, and heresy.
These will be detailed in the background stories.

Player Questions:
1. Previous pbp experience?
I've been in the start of many PbPs here on the board, but sadly, few of them have held on for any length of time (usually as a result of the GM bailing) -- I've not tried GMing here, though I do admit that I keep kicking the idea around. In any case, I would think that you should be able to get an idea of my post-style from any of my aliases (with the exception of the Goblin in the We Be Goblins campaign -- that's still ongoing, but it's not representative of my usual style)
2. Location?
I live in Ontario, Canada. I'm in the Eastern Standard Timezone (soon to be Eastern Daylight). So GMT-5:00 at the moment.
3. Post Frequency?
Barring illness and vacations (and I always give advanced warning of the latter), I can be guaranteed to post at least once per weekday and usually do so more often (when there are things to respond to). On weekends, I will usually post once per day, though I do admit that some weekends, I can only post once -- life gets in the way.
Character Questions:
1. Who are you?
Brandir Myrkor, Scoundrel (Mechanically, that's an LE Archaelogist Bard)
2. What do you look like?
Brandir stands just over 5'11", with a lean build that almost makes him appear gaunt. His thick, wavy hair is dark, almost black, despite a slight ruddy sheen, and its unruly curls frame his angular face. His complexion is pale and slightly ashen, and his eyes are a dark grey, as if something leeched the color from him.
3. How would you describe your personality?
Brandir is arrogant and manipulative, believing that his superior intellect and strength of personality put him above the petty details of polite society, and certainly the current government, although he still holds to a personal code. He's driven by a desire to accumulate the power that he so richly believes that he deserves, so much so that he's by means of whatever forbidden knowledge and artifacts he can find -- however, while he puts himsel
4. What crime have you committed to cause your incarceration in Branderscar Prison?
High Theft -- Brandir stepped into a vacuum and took over a small group of thieves, running them for a few months (reducing his risk by needing to get his own hands dirty), using his skills to organize them while directing them toward various tomes of forbidden knowledge. Pouring over the information, he learned of an old artifact of power and dark magic that had been hidden away, and so he led his team to retrieve it. Sadly, things did not go according to plan.
More than happy to flesh out a more detailed backstory, just lacking the campaign knowledge to build from as it were. However, if you have any questions, I'm here to answer them.

Cain... |

This is Eben TheQuiet. I'm still looking around at profile images, but I already have the name, so i'm using it to post my submission. :)
Player Questions:
1. Do you have previous pbp experience as player and/or DM? If so, on Paizo's boards, or elsewhere?
I've been on the Paizo boards for a couple of years now. I'm in one long-running game as well as a few more recent ones. I've been in a few failed games -- and in the name of full disclosure -- one of them was a Way of the Wicked that i only recently dropped from. It stalled pretty badly after we only just had escaped our bonds. We didn't get anywhere, and I'm not really interested in submitting the same character (though i'm using the same name cause I like it).
Jayse; Great Southern Isles Game
Desh; Covenant of Shadows Star Wars game
Javi the Wasp; Unbinding the Fetters Kung fu style game
Should give you a good feel for my play-style (short version: I like character interaction and I love writing combat sequences).
2. Where do you live (specifically, in what time zone)?
Dallas, TX. Central time or (GMT -6, i believe?)
3. How often can you expect to post (barring illness, vacation, etc.)?
I consistently post at least once per day (and usually more). Work craziness and family stuff are the usual reasons why I wouldn't post, and I try to give heads up when that happens. I generally have a harder time engaging over the weekends. I have one small child and one on the way.
*Note: Just a heads up, both Stormraven (Price) and Mark Sweetman are good, solid DM/players. I'm in a game that each of them DM. They're consistent, group-minded, and good rp'ers as well as writers. Just thought I'd throw that out in case it helps; i know their inclusion would be a boon to your game. :)
Character Questions:
1. Who are you? (Name, race, class)
The name's Cain. Enforcer, finder, tracker, thief, and moonlight murderer.
Mechanically: LE (modified template Natural Lycanthrope Werewolf) Urban Ranger (probably taking Skirmisher archetype as well unless the group lacks healing capabilities in a serious way).
Cain grew up in a small pack who grew up together scratching out a living in the shadows of Talingarde. As they grew, they realized they were so much more than the lambs around them. Unlike the hunters before them, however, they realized they could use the laws of this urban jungle to their advantage, and began to throw their weight around as a criminal cell. They would take whatever jobs would get them a little money and a little rep without bringing too much spotlight. Cain was never the alpha. He had the skills, but he didn't have that something that a born leader does. As soon as he realized his place in the pack, their careers took off.
Over time, his pack was hunted by the Mitrans, and he's the only survivor. Those damn paladins throw their weight around and don't consider that they are just as much a target as the sheep they shepherd. Cain revels in every kill he can make on those arrogant, self-righteous bastards.
Last survivor of his pack. And -- as far as he knows -- last of his kind inside the walls of Talingarde.
He's a survivor and an urban predator who won't abandon his hunting grounds.
2. What do you look like?
With his brown eyes, dark hair, and generally-average features, Cain is generally forgettable. There is an air of something wild about him not often found in cities, though. Something that makes people a bit distrustful despite no outward dangers. Like a wolf among dogs.
He stands a few inches under six feet with a rangy, athletic build.
3. How would you describe your personality?
Cain has a quiet confidence and stand-offishness that usually presents itself as arrogance. He'd rather let his actions do the talking. And when it does come down to words to obtain an objective or quarry, he's more than likely to use blunt intimidation to get his way. Once on the trail, he is relentless.
He hates most of the weak humans that infest his hunting grounds of Talingarde. They are stupid, weak sheep worthy of little more than becoming a midnight snack, and he's become good at hunting them (favored enemy: human). He has a special hatred for those hypocritical MItrans. Espousing ideals of equality and love while they systematically eradicate his kind. Every mitran killed is a victory for the memory of his fallen pack-members.
Growing up as part of a pack in Talingarde instilled a few rules bone-deep in Cain… rules of survival. The strength of the pack: the lone wolf is dangerous; the unified pack is unstoppable. There is survival in the shadows: it is safe for a werewolf to walk openly in the day only when his territory is firmly his; until then, keep your true self secret.
Like most career criminals, Cain's rap sheet is surprisingly long and runs the gamut. The crime that put him in Branderscar and on the road to the gallows, however, was murder. Murder of a mid-rank priest in one of the major cathedrals of Mitran in Talingarde itself. (He would have racked up Attempted Murder, Arson, and Desecration, but Murder is the headliner.)
Let's put it this way, when the Mitran temple guards busted in, they found Cain in the burning cathedral, a dozen priests and acolytes dead or dying, and one particularly high ranking official dead in his hands… blood all over Cain, his clothes, and his weapon. A more detailed account will be on his profile page.

I'm definately interested in this but I have one quick question. Where do elves fit in this setting? Any big changes from golarion elves or tolkein elves, anything that makes them stand out?
I've got in mind a elven cleric or oracle (w/ Dark Tapestry or Heavens mystery) who believes that the race is nothing more than heralds for something far worse. A little Lovecraft vibe, but nothing that would dominate the story, he would just think that he's better than everyone and that they're all going to die a nasty tentacular death. Some of his powers might push at times.
Barring that, i've also got an idea for a LE magus with the mentality of everything and everyone is just another path to power to be exploited, used up, then cast aside.

The answers to my player questions were posted earlier.
Character Questions:
1. Mercy Marcellus, Changeling Summoner (synthesist)
2. Willowy, waifish, pale. During her teenage years she was more charming than seductive but as she grew into her figure she definitely came to turn heads. Black hair framing a heart-shaped face, full lips, button nose, and striking eyes (one of which is green, the other brown). In games here on Paizo's forums, I find that my vision of the character usually changes to match the avatar I end up choosing... I might alter the description if I find a perfect portrait here.
3. She is self-absorbed, greedy, and manipulative. When she sees something or someone that she wants, she takes it. She is a bit of a hedonist and very appreciative of beauty in all of its forms.
4. Consorting with Dark Powers
Mercy was left at the doorstep of a monastery as an infant. Named for St. Marcellus the merciful, she grew up secluded from the world. Hymns and prayer and a hard day's work made one week blend into the next and one year much like another. One could only get into a certain amount of trouble in a monastery, but Mercy found out exactly what that amount was. Since she couldn't always talk her way out of whatever punishment her mischief merited, she heard everything there was to hear about the Shining Lord and his plan for her life. The voice she began to hear in her adolescence worried her and the monks, who were like family to her. They prayed over her and wove protective wards and kept her so busy that she had no time for anything but work and sleep. She distracted herself for years with endless hours at a scribe's desk copying old tomes and scrolls until eventually the sweet, seductive voice faded. The next voice she heard was rougher, darker, yet somehow more intimate. It drew her to a forgotten alcove deep in the catacombs where she found The Book. As she read, the voice grew clearer and closer. It spoke of all the things she wanted- promised her all she ever dreamed of having, seeing or doing and led her through the invocation hidden in the heart of the tome.
The ritual complete, she found herself in communion with a being from the darkest depths of hell. It whispered to her of pleasures of the flesh and and how she could have the headmaster at her beck and call. She embraced it, manifested the dark spirit, and within the month had lured several of the monks to abandon their vows and join her in debauchery. Of course, it did not go entirely unnoticed. The monk who had raised her like a father... it broke his heart to send the letter to the inquisitors. The came, they cornered her, but they did not expect her to skitter along the ceiling to make her escape. She made her way into the world, exploring and establishing small cults as she went until finally the inquisitors caught up with her. There was nowhere to skitter to this time. She was caught, branded, and sent to die in a place far from any beauty or grace.
If there are names for other saints already defined in the setting, I can change her name to fit one of them as appropriate.
What language would old religions texts be in?

Player Questions:
1. Do you have previous pbp experience as player and/or DM? If so, on Paizo's boards, or elsewhere?
Yes, I am a player in three other pbps here on this site.
2. Where do you live (specifically, in what time zone)?
Brasil, GMT - 3
3. How often can you expect to post (barring illness, vacation, etc.)?
I can post once or twice everyday, maybe more depending on work. Weekends can be tricky but usually I can post on them too.
Character Questions:
1. Who are you? (Name, race, class)
Jack Grieves, human, NE antipaladain
2. What do you look like?
Tall, broad and heavy builded. Jack is a hairy man with an unkept look, yet he possess a savage magnetism. Underneath the harsh appearance he has a disarming smile and can be very charming when he wants to.
3. How would you describe your personality?
Jack Grieves is a survivor. A loud and intimidating large man that can be brutal or charming in a scoundrel-like way depending on what suits better his interests. Born of unknown parents he was raised in one of Mitra's orphanages where he learned early that his fists could solve most problems that flattery couldn't take care of. The priests also incurred into him a strong despise for the sun god and all the other phony deities. Grieves only belives in himself. He will bargain with anyone or anything to advance his personal power. After been raised by the Crown it was easy for him to join the military and then the city watch. There he helped himself to all the gold he could grab doubling as a city watch's guard and a liutenant of the thief's guild.
Extortion, he got caught under extortion accusations.

1) I have some previous experience as a player on Paizo's boards, though both games went defunct relatively early on in their run.
2) Eastern Standard Time (GMT +5)
3) I usually check the boards at least twice a day, and post if there's something for me to respond to.
Character Questions:
1) Who are you?
Larsan Farices is human, though rumors (which he may have stared) suggest that there was likely some giant in his background. A lawful evil anti-paladin (akin to the paladin of Tyranny from 3.5 Unearthed Arcana).
2) What do you look like
Larsan, described by those trying to point the authorities his way, is a tall and powerful man, well over six feet in height and with shoulders that an axe handle wouldn't be long enough to stretch across. Red haired and with piercing blue eyes, his forearms are as big around as an average man's thigh, and his clenched fist is nearly as large as a halfling's head. Of course, his imprisonment has been hard upon him... He is slimmer now, with what fat he had possessed having been burnt away. He is marked by burns on his face and forearms from where he tried to remove the branding of the justice system he rejects the judgement of, leaving his jailors forced to brand him on the hollow of his throat, where attempting to disfigure the brand again would kill him.
3)Describe your Personality
Despite, or perhaps because, of the misconceptions that his bulk causes, Larsan actually prefers to work with others and through intermediaries, eschewing direct conflict with his enemies except in instances where he had stacked the deck in his favor. Even before his capture and imprisonment, he was known to be scrupulous about his word and code, earning a grudging respect from those who hunted him: He would at least hold to the letter of an agreement he made, even if exploiting loopholes let him get around the spirit of it entirely.
4)What crimes has he committed?
Larsan was sentenced to his incarceration for a multitude of crimes, but foremost among them was high treason, due to an incident where he tried to rally together the members of his border town home to defend against monsterous raids. The townsmen were a fractious lot, unfortunately, and their failure to truly unite before their enemies seemed sure to lead them all to fall. Desperate, Larsan turned to the gods, asking for something that would unite them all. An imp, the familiar of a nearby witch that was using the aftermath of the raids to acquire ingredients for her cooking, overheard him while it was scouting, and it took the chance to act as an intermediary, offering him the power to bind his fellow villagers to him. Larsan accepted, and fed on a steady diet of the bodies of fallen villagers by the witch, he grew massive and intimidating. By the sheer magnitude of his presence, through fear and force, he united villagers, quashing quarrels whenever they erupted and demanding forfeits of both sides for his judgements.
The raids were turned back, but Larsan found himself unsatisfied. The empire, so distant, had never sent troops to help and before the villagers had really had a chance to realize what was happening, he declared that such a failing put them in violation of their civil compact with the settlement. The empire was weak and complacent, and no longer fit to rule. But neither were the townsfolk, and so he would rule them and the empire both. Anyone who disagreed was to be driven from their homes, their freedom and their belongings forfeit for their ungratefulness. And others in the empire... if the empire could not defend them, than they should be put under the rule of one who could... for their own safety. By the time the Empire got directly involved, Larsan's little fiefdom had expanded to the three neighboring villages, with the people loyal out of fear.
The outlying villages were retaken swiftly enough and with minimal casualties, because the villagers while hardened, were not on par with Talingarde's military forces. When Larsan's home village was reached, however, things went wrong, and a fire broke out. His family and more than a few of the other villagers were killed, and the next day the military captured him, with a diviner amongst them saying Larsan had started the blaze. Larsan claimed himself justified, that he had set the blaze to contain and eradicate an illness that had threatened the rest of "his people" and the Kingdom.
At his trial, the list of crimes that he was convicted of was long: High Treason, Murder, Extortion, Slave-Taking, Consorting with Dark Powers, Sedition, Blasphemy, and Arson. Throughout it all, he offered a defense only to the high treason charge, maintaining that the failure of the Kingdom to protect his village meant they were not fit to judge him for any of the other actions, and indeed meant he was innocent of their charge of treason... they, after all, had betrayed him first. The Kingdom's justices disagreed.

1. Do you have previous pbp experience as player and/or DM? If so, on Paizo's boards, or elsewhere?
I have thus far submitted my characters to three different campaigns, two Carrion Crowns and one Council of Thieves, but I have not been accepted to any of them, not for lack of trying.
That said, I am highly familiar with the ruleset and have been DMing my own home campaign with my friends for several weeks now. I've read a bunch of PbP's on this board and have done my best to acquaint myself with their eccentricities.
2. Where do you live (specifically, in what time zone)?
I live in Long Island, New York. My timezone is EST.
3. How often can you expect to post (barring illness, vacation, etc.)?
I am able to post multiple times per day on a day, but once a day is my minimum. I am going to school during the day, however, and thus I can only regularly post in the evenings. I am good for weekends, however.
1. Who are you? (Name, race, class)
Name: Solomon Knox
I’ve lately created a character, name of Solomon Knox, a human inquisitor with the Trickery and Deception domain and subdomain. Originally I had it that to fit in a good campaign he would be true neutral, without a proclivity towards religion, but took it as his inquisition to defy the oppressive state of the Council of Thieves Campaign setting. His original conception was of a NE inquisitor of Norgorber, and that I think could fit in this campaign. If that relation to Norgorber does pose a problem, however, he could still remain without a deity, being somewhat of an anarchistic terrorist.
Solomon’s ideals stem from a disillusionment with government. It began with the murder of his parents, both of them “heathens” and “blasphemers” of the goddess Calistria. He can since have forgone religion, and had instead taken upon himself one very specific mantra: Defiance or he arbitrarily joined the church of Norgorber on a whim, and has acted as their agent. He has since acted as a saboteur, utilizing subterfuge and deception to fool the Talingarde authorities and defy them at every turn. The trauma of his childhood has warped his mind a tad, but it’s nothing to be concerned about. He’s no rapist or murderer. He’s simply, well, off. His speech mannerisms are strange, sounding almost alien at times, providing his own idiosyncratic thought processes into his speech. He has a tendency to trail off mid sentence or ignore somebody he’s talking to entirely. He has no issue with killing, not having the ability to pay attention for long enough to properly care. This sort of madness is not specifically sociopathy, but is best represented by a highly functional version of Schizotypal Personality Disorder.
Schizotypal Personality Disorder
2. What do you look like?
Solomon Knox has a visage that is near immediately forgettable, and that has helped him in more than a few sticky situations. Not specifically attractive or repulsive, he has brown hair, brown eyes, a sallow complexion and gaunt features. His skin is tanned and he usually wears gray robes under his armored vestments. He does his best to look appear with as little ostentatious grandeur as possible. His demeanor, however, is anything but normal.
3. How would you describe your personality?
Like with Schizotypal Personality Disorder Solomon has odd behavior and thinking, and often unconventional beliefs. He acts atypical in almost all situations and rarely does he go out of his way to do anything that isn't on a whim. His goals range from narrowly specific to broadly incomprehensible, but they are tied to a specific purpose. What that purpose is... I still have yet to design. *shrug. He is not afraid to murder, but will not do so randomly like a chaotic character. He's does not uphold any specific code, but will work towards his own ends no matter the consequences.
If he takes up the religious affiliation with Norgorber, then his crime would probably be blasphemy. He joined the church on a whim, enacting its policies and the goals they set for him with an non zealous effeciency.
If he instead doesn't belong to any religion, then I'd have to choose murder. To be perfectly frank, I've got a preference for this path. I'll have a character short story up at the latest on the 10th that'll explain this specific murder better than I can now. Well, that is, if you'll accept the idea of this character. Odd circumstances, definitely.

Waltz, I think a Tiefling could get by as long as the otherworldly aspects of his appearance were fairly subtle, or easily disguised.
I could ease the alignment restrictions for Souldrinker PrC (much the same as with the Anti-Paladin). And, yes, I think we could work up some oathbound archetype to work as well. Have at it.
