Maria the Great |
I have a word with them see if I can't convince them to leave you alone.
Helgarr |
Helgarr stands mostly silent, eating sparsely and entertaining a mug of mead. Her mood seems to be lighter though.
I have a word with them see if I can't convince them to leave you alone.
"We can do that" - the barbarian pipes in, mug still in hand - "But it is risky Maria"
Cleo Gingerberry |
Cleo will come sit by the big warrior, thumping her dangling feet against the bench enjoying the show. After Maria talks, she says Please be careful Maria
Maria the Great |
Only if they think I'm their enemy. If they think I'm an interested thief looking to make some coin on the other hand... She smiles as she picks up a chair and takes it out the door so she has somewhere to sit as she she waits. She pulls the drab side of her cloak over and smiles as it settles over her, blocking the bright colors of her outfit from view.

Thick clouds cover the crescent moon tonight, masking the bandits approaching. Maria spies three men heading towards her, whispering to one another. All of the men are tall and strong, dressed in fine studded leather armor, and wearing masks. Two of these men carry daggers at their side, while the other one, a bit shorter in height, carries a small sword along with a series of daggers.
As they approach, one of them addresses Maria. "Whatcha doing out here, missy? Don'tcha know it's passed your bedtime?"
The other two men chuckle.
Maria the Great |
Oh I just heard that somebody needed a lock expert.
Maria the Great |
Okay, don't know why, I did hear it and I'm a rogue with disable device. Bluff: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Spent my entire life in a gang in Absalom. You can bet I've picked my share of locks.
DM TreasureFox |
The man ponders for a moment, before replying. "Will ya look at that, eh boys? An eager recruit lookin for some thrill and gold. Tell ya what, how 'bout we set up a trial for ya, see if you're any good. A job well done can give ya damn good pay. That add up right to ya?"
Maria the Great |
Those piles of gold add up just fine. What's the test?
Maria the Great |
And what would that business be? It would be quite, upsetting to the populace if somebody got hurt. Not good for business you know? And my friend there is my body guard, he can hear it now or later.

Vandra and Jeaux hid in the stairway, listening in on the council of thieves going on in the main room. Vandra, for some reason, isn't able to hear much, the voices are too low perhaps. Jeaux, with her larger ears, can hear whispering, but is only able to make out the odd word or two.
DM TreasureFox |
"Bodyguard he may be, but we here know bout Furnok. He's the one to take off Tabe's leg and send him off to Magnimar. Now as for ya, Maria, I don't much care for the goblin heroics, but I think you've got some potential to the Sczarni. Still, if you stand tween us an' the old f#*@$* dwarf, our deal'll be off. It ain't a big deal, you know. We're just here to rough em up a bit, get him to either join us or get the hell out."
EDIT: Then he thinks for a moment. "Tell ya what, 'ow bout ya convince him to give us a donation, eh? Then we'll leave 'im be."
Maria the Great |
Maria's eyes instantly harden. I don't think so. Maria stands up and walks past the Scarni. Once past she turns around and punches one of them in the kidneys. DM TreasureFox |
Maria, correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't an unarmed strike deal 1d3+0 damage? Also, can I get a bluff check? I'm treating your attack as a feint.
The one to be punched: 1d3 ⇒ 1

As Maria walks away, she suddenly strikes the leader in his kidney with her bare fist. He reels slightly before cursing "*****! Guess there's just too much hero in ya. Get'er boys!"
Those who are up first, opening the door will count as a move action.
Leader [5NL (maybe 7)], Mook 1 [0], Mook 2 [0]
Maria the Great |
Unarmed strikes count as light weapons, thus I get my finesse training. I made sure to look it up. And does that maybe mean I didn't confirm? Cause if I confirmed that's 13 NL damage.Bluff: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 Nvm, you removed the +3, remember I'm unchained rogue, I get my dexterity to light weapon damage
DM TreasureFox |
Finesse training only applies to attack rolls, just like Weapon Finesse. At level 3, you can choose a single weapon to use your Dex modifier for damage.
Finesse Training (Ex)
At 1st level, a rogue gains Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat. In addition, starting at 3rd level, she can select any one type of weapon that can be used with Weapon Finesse (such as rapiers or daggers). Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed. Whenever she makes a successful melee attack with the selected weapon, she adds her Dexterity modifier instead of her Strength modifier to the damage roll. If any effect would prevent the rogue from adding her Strength modifier to the damage roll, she does not add her Dexterity modifier. The rogue can select a second weapon at 11th level and a third at 19th level.
Furnok of Ferd |
Now, I think folks better walk away before Tabe gets himself a spare leg for the clerics to attach. Hopefully I'll get the proper leg sent. If not, well I'll just have to send two of them over to make sure.
Furnok pulls his Falchion with a *snikt* I am the best at what I do, bub.
Maria the Great |
Did my attack count as my turn's attack or a surprise?
I warned you, surest way to get people after you is to start attacking them!
Cleo Gingerberry |
Wait, Cleo is going first??? That never happens.
She'll pull the door open and hold it for the other bigger tougher members of the group.
Maria the Great |
dagger: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3Maria swings her dagger. Keep forgetting this. I have a +1 bonus to initiative and damage in surprise rounds.
Alandrian Verium |
When battle lines are joined, Ali springs in to action. He moves towards Azeri as the bearman steps outside the door, and lays a hand on his back, channeling his power as he does, causing a wreath of energy to burst forth from his palm.

Volioker's Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Leader's Trip: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Mook1's Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Maria draws her dagger to swipe at the leader, but he manages to dodge out of the way at the last moment. He's about to say something when Furnok threatens him, as he draws his falchion. The leader seems to be fairly shaken up, considering what Furnok has done to Tabe. In the meantime, Ali casts Enlarge Person on Azeri, turning him into an even larger bear-man, ready to strike. Cleo opens the door, and none a moment too soon as Volioker draws his warhammer and charges into the fray, targeting one of the two mooks. Unfortunately for him, the large man is surprisingly nimble, and Volioker's old bones have become more of a hindrance in all his years as a locksmith.
The leader, despite his fear of Furnok, still draws his shortsword. "Hey! These folks be tryin ta kill us! Boys, show no mercy." Then, with a sweeping kick, the leader knocks Maria to the ground. Maria can make an AoO since he does not have improved trip.
Although the mooks are startled by the dwarf's bold charge, one of them manages to recover in time to land a very powerful blow to Volioker with naught but his bare fist.
Leader [8NL, Shaken], Mook1 [0], Mook2 [0], Volioker [10]
Azeri, Helgarr, Vandra, and Jeaux are up. Maria can make an Attack of Opportunity against the Leader before she is knocked prone.
Maria the Great |
She again sweeps out her dagger Disarm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 and feels her leg come out from under her and misses the planned slash across her enemy's fingers.
Azerienzal |
Disarm will provoke an AoO yourself, right? As you don't have improved disarm.
Azeri steps forward, lashing out with both of his claws at the man who attacked Volioker, turning them so he is using them as bludgeons rather than their normal razor like lethality.
Claw 1-1d20 ⇒ 71d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6-4 to attack for non-lethal
Claw 2-1d20 ⇒ 71d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9-4 to attack for non-lethal
Awesome damage, deplorable attack rolls. Oh well.
Alandrian Verium |
You can make Combat Maneuvers as part of attacks of opportunity, as long as they don't require you to move from your space I believe.
Maria the Great |
Disarm
You can attempt to disarm your opponent in place of a melee attack. I beg to differ.
Maria the Great |
Unfortunately, yes. I was willing to take the non lethal to disarm him, didn't work out like that though.
DM TreasureFox |
Leader's Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 SAFE!
Leader's Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
As Maria attempts to disarm the leader, she swings a bit too high. Taking the opportunity, the leader attempts to stab Maria through the chest, but to no avail. Still, the trip connects with Maria's leg and she falls over.
Helgarr |
Not really sure of tactical options without a map, but:
Helgarr wades into the fray without hesitation, drawing her polearm as she moves, and swinging hard with the flat of the blade's weapon at the mook attacking Volioker - "Do not take any risks dwarf brother" - she shouts in support, then turning to her opponent - "You! Face me scum!"
Free: Controlled rage
Move: Towards the fray (part of move is drawing weapon)
Standard: Non lethal attack on the mook facing Volioker
Bardiche, non-lethal: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 4 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Helgarr |
Sorry TreasureFox, completely forgot about the Critical threat :P
Crit?: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 5 - 4 = 15
Additional damage if it crits: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Vandra Geaux |
Vandra watched as the battle started, wishing that his life lately didn't include so much of the event. Shaking his head to get rid of the thought, Vandra steeled himself for the fight and gathered his magic in his hand only to release it into his mother-in-wallaby.
Magic Weapon Spell on Jeaux: +1 weapon enhancement bonus.
Jeaux, feeling the magic coursing through her body and into her weapon, nodded to her son and they both walked into the room to lend aid to their comrades. Upon entering the room, Jeaux took up a defensive stance, ready to lash out at anybody she could.
Total Defense: +4 dodge bonus to AC.
DM TreasureFox |
While Azeri attempts to bludgeon the mook with the back of his claws, Helgarr makes a strong bash against the mook's back. Helgarr can see that the mook managed to dodge just at the last moment from taking a strike to the kidney, which must have been due to his nimble stance.
Vandra and Jeaux get buffed up to head into the fray, but Jeaux wants to take things carefully. She sets into a defensive stance in case any enemy tries to dodge past the bigger foes.
Furnok tries to defend Maria by whipping the blunt side of his falchion against the leader, but is unused to fighting in a non-lethal fashion.
Leader [8NL, Shaken, Flanked], Mook1 [13NL], Mook2 [0]
