Furnok, Wabbit, and Kemras all head over to Kaven's bed, concerned about his wellbeing. All three of them notice that Kaven's eyes are wide open, and the eyes shift to see the three without blinking. Kemras inspects him and notices that the young man is slowly turning blue. He's suffocating!
Kemras Iuvescanu |
"Cleo, do you have any magic that could help him resist the curse?" Kemras asks hastily, before working to see what he can do to help the suffocating man. Dammit, Kaven, I don't have enough friends to lose them willy-nilly.
Knowledge (arcana), free inspiration: 1d20 + 15 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 15 + (2) = 19 Seeing if he can identify what sort of curse might be doing this, and how to counteract it. Also, ouch that roll. If Spellcraft is more appropriate, that would make it a total of 20, as I have an extra bonus point there.
DM TreasureFox |
Kemras identifies an illusion curse upon Kaven, which immobilizes him and puts him into a panic. However, the spell or ability does not suffocate him. Something else, non-magical, is strangulating him.
It's a made up spell that mimics sleep paralysis. Probably around 3rd or 4th level.
Wabbit the Paladin of Chaldira |
He's turning BLUE!
Wabbit once saw Master RiverDancer breath life back into a child who nearly drowned in the lake. That kid had been blue just like Kaven.
Wabbit gets down on his knees, puts his mouth on Kaven's and tries to blow life back into him
DM TreasureFox |
Furnok takes a cursory glance at Kaven's tonsils. His throat is normal. However Wabbit feels very cold as he places his hands onto Kaven's chest. He notices that Kaven's chest is already fully compressed. In order for Kaven to breathe, his chest needs to rise.
Wabbit the Paladin of Chaldira |
HEY! good chest is cold and it's already compressed it won't rise. I don't understand Wabbit steps back and his eyes turn a golden hue as he searches for for any evil aura possibly affecting Kaven
Cleo Gingerberry |
Cleo with a pile of dreams of 'real life' nearly suffocating her is slow to respond, but finally hurries over. "Move!" she snaps at whoever is in her way, adding a "please" because even in emergencies politeness is important. and then starts quickly checking over the suffocating man.
heal check to figure out what is wrong: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
DM TreasureFox |
Much like the others, Cleo realizes that Kaven is suffocating, and at this point may fall unconscious shortly. His throat is unobstructed, and his chest is fully compressed. His lungs don't have any room for air. Though he's cold to the touch, Cleo notices that his chest is abnormally cold.
Wabbit the Paladin of Chaldira |
There's something evil here Wabbit says eyes still glowing as he continues concentrating
next round Wabbit will LoH to heal Kaven and harm any undead influence. If possible he will continue concentrating on evil-dar.
Cleo Gingerberry |
Cleo hasn't had time to prepare new spells, does she have the ones left over from yesterday? If so, she'll try dispel magic next round.
DM TreasureFox |
Round 2: Wabbit detects a single Strong aura
Concentration is a standard action, so you'll need to choose between concentrating on evil-dar or using LoH
@Cleo, yes you still have your spells from yesterday. When casting Dispel Magic, you'll need to make a Caster Level check (1d20+8).
@Furnok someone can give you holy water to pour if they have it
Kemras Iuvescanu |
Kemras frowns. "Unless he's cursed by the dead or fiends, holy water probably won't help. Plus, it's a spell - it won't help at all, I think."
Wabbit the Paladin of Chaldira |
Round 2:
Wabbit continues to concentrate with evil-dar
Cleo maybe A Channel to heal Kaven or harm whatevers suffocating him
Wabbit's no genius but there were undead yesterday and maybe whatevers attacking Kaven is Incorporeal undead
Cleo Gingerberry |
caster level check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Cleo prays for help to get rid of whatever it is. If it doesn't work she'll channel after.
DM TreasureFox |
Kemras confirms that Cleo's dispel attempt doesn't manage to do anything.
Round 3:
Kaven turns a disturbing shade of blue as his eyes stop moving, though Cleo and Kemras both know that Kaven is only unconscious, not dead.
@Wabbit, do you want to continue your evil-dar, or something else?
@Cleo, which channel would you like to use?
Wabbit the Paladin of Chaldira |
Wabbit will continue his evil-dar for round 3 thinking that while he could LoH he'll wait to see if Cleo's Channel had any effect.
Someone try Holy Water! not knowing what else to do or suggest
Cleo Gingerberry |
given the call for holy water, Cleo will try the one to hurt undead.

Cleo Gingerberry |
Cleo has magic circle against evil. She could cast it and then try to carry him over the edge. Leaving the evil on the other side?
Kemras Iuvescanu |
This is what I get for not reading the gameplay thread before the discussion one.
Kemras, upon hearing that there's an incorporeal - and invisible - creature on his friend's chest, draws out the holy water he's carried for quite some time and empties it over Kaven.

knowledge religion?: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
DM TreasureFox |
There are many stories throughout multiple religions about demons, ghouls, or spirits suffocating paralysed people in the middle of their slumber. Some think that these are curses being laid on them by vengeful witches.
Cleo can easily eliminate ghouls and ghosts from the list, as these would have been harmed by her channelling. Likewise, it reinforces that an evil outsider is responsible, as Kemras' holy water had an effect.
What Cleo remembers however is a little tidbit she heard from that rambling scholar back in Magnimar. There is a Hag that is no ordinary monstrous humanoid. A Hag who's soul resides in the realms of Abaddon, a Night Hag. Seller of souls, master of nightmares, invader of dreams, and wanderer of the ethereal. She crushes the chest of her dreaming victim, then suffocates the life out of him before claiming his soul and selling it along the river Styx.
Knowledge planes for further information. I consider a second knowledge check in a turn to cost a swift action.

Wabbit slices and dices away, and he can feel his blade passing through something more solid than air, like he were fighting underwater. Two ethereal gasps of pain emanate from Wabbit's direction. Now coalescing into something translucent, the form of a beautiful aristocratic woman manifests over Kaven. Her form has been... slightly messed up, like a drawing in sand that's been disturbed slightly. She looks at Wabbit and smiles too wide. In her left hand is a little glowing pearl, which she stows in a little bag.

Though everyone with magical weapons seem to disturb the image of the aristocratic woman slightly, she does not look concerned in the slightest. She simply smiles and turns to walk away, fading out of sight in only a second.
The group are just about to do something when suddenly two Large green and violet spiders materialize from the ceiling. They drop down with barely a sound, but attack immediately. Wabbit is immediately beset and snatched up by a pair of mandibles that inject venom into him. Furnok, however surprised, is protected by his armour. The spider holding onto Wabbit then sprays him with webbing from its abdomen. The webbing is a ghostly green and looks like steam is coming off it. The spider attacking Furnok manages to get him the second time, lifting him right off the ground. Venom sprays from Furnok's wound, but for now he doesn't seem any worse in that regard.
Surprise round, but also beat everyone in initiative.
Wabbit takes 12 damage, 2 Con damage, and is pinned and tied up.
Furnok takes 15 damage and is grappled.

Cleo is running low on everything, so she starts summoning a grizzle bear.
DM TreasureFox |
Wabbit struggles against the webbing, but even with his magical waveblade he doesn't manage to cut through. Kemras blesses the group with magical speed, while Cleo starts summoning. Furnok stabs wildly at the spider holding onto him, but stabbing with a cutlass proves a mostly fruitless endeavor. Only a single stab to the monster's hide manages to do anything, and the blood seeping out is gaseous and green. Bacon proves a bit more capable, as he gores into the abdomen of a spider with his long tusks. Aggah follows up with a decent arrow shot. Jakardros swings and jabs with his billhook, but just can't land a good strike. He looks so incredibly tired.
The spider that wrapped up Wabbit drops him and tries to bite Bacon, but Bacon's hide and barding are more than enough to protect the boar. Meanwhile, the other spider tries to wrap Furnok in webbing, but Furnok is able to dodge and deflect the worst of it.
Wabbit can feel something awful happening in his body, more than a searing pain, but so far his body is working overtime to fight it off. 1 successful save
