I love the character sheet, Estelle. I may reformat mine to resemble yours. How did you achieve the gray lettering?
I've always wished the the Paizo boards had as good a selection of male icons as they do for female. It's even harder when you're not going for a fantasy look. Most of the female icons are either normal- or glamorous-looking. Most of the males look evil, crazed or weird because they're drawn from villains.
I'm thinking that it would be easy to form connections between any of our characters. So even though I can only get 2 skill points for doing so, I'd like to sketch out how Marcus Carter knows each of you. Here's what I've got so far. Let me know if you approve or if it needs adjustment.
Aven Brody - Marcus and Aven trained together and served in what amounts to Moonbase Thoth's army. So they know each other personally and professionally. Marcus respects Aven's broad technical knowledge and frequently comes to him for technical advice. "Hey, I've got a buddy who can fix that. Let me give him a call."
Estelle Beaumont - Estelle treated Marcus for a plasma burn when he was shot by thieves conducting a raid on a food storage warehouse. Both of them are idealists and see eye to eye on the future of Moonbase Thoth. "Doc Beaumont? Yes. Yes. We're luck to have her on this mission. She's...well she's the real thing."
Ephraim Cole - More than once, Ephraim's been on the periphery of various shady enterprises that Marcus and Moonbase Thoth's security have broken up. Ephraim always managed to come away clean without an arrest, just a scrounger not clearly associated with the crimes being investigated. "That man is everywhere I look. He's always involved in something. But I'll tell you what. If you need something and can't find it? He probably can."
Estelle Beaumont
Yorick: In the 2016 version of the rules, electronics is its own skill (see below) So I take it as a mechanic you took it from the civilian(worker) career, so it should have listed it simply as electronics...from that you can chose a sub-skill.
In a twist of fate, it turns out that I've been using the 2008 one, so, that's a thing. I'll flip through the actual correct book and make some changes.

Thanks! Not sure what you mean by grey lettering, though. The text is normal, just with [bigger.] tags around it. I do use [ooc.] tags in a few places to highlight stats, which is maybe what you're seeing as grey? They're kind of a blue/purple for me.
Also, I totally dig the character hook you wrote for us to know each other.

Marcus: I like your idea of making a connection with all the other players...it forms a nice starting place for relationships within the group!
Estelle: I was worried that I had used the 2008 one when I was setting this up! I have it as a hard cover, and the 2016 as a .pdf I do not know if it is even a physical book yet, but I will probably pick it up once it comes out!!

There are a confusing amount of editions for sure. I'll probably pick up a hardcover, too, this system is really interesting. Anyway, I think I'm updated now. What are we doing about equipment? I know you said we start with some basic stuff, but do we still choose what those things are?
OK, I'm fuzzy on why people are getting 2 skill rolls per term. Am I missing something?
As you gain ranks by spending multiple terms inside of a career, you get additional rolls. It's not every term, but can be as often as every other.
Eg: With Drifter you get nothing at Rank 0, but at Rank 1 you get Survival if you're in the Barbarian specialisation, Streetwise if you're in the Wanderer specialisation, or Vacc Suit if you're in the Scavenger specialisation. Then Barbarian actually gets something new at Rank 2, while Wanderer and Scavenger don't get something else until 3.
Lectryk
I have the 08 version of the rules. Are the career skill options different between the versions? And, could someone check that my cascade choices are still right?
Daniel - Since Gun Combat is consolidated down into three choices now, what are the standard arms of the Moonbase - (a) slug throwers, with energy considered as squad/heavier weapons, or (b) energy weapons, with slug throwers a throwback? It'll help with my re-assigning that skill point.

It's on the chart under "Ranks and Bonuses".

The only things that I see off is that as Daniel mentioned in this post, Electronics is actually its own skill now, so you'd have a subset of Electronics instead of Engineer (Electronics) for your Third Rank. It looks like everything else still tracks.
Ephraim Cole
Tarondor
Two different things. In a standard game, you'd get a new skill roll each time you made a promotion. But you'd also get a skill (not rolled) just for having a certain number of terms. Those skills are dictated by the "Ranks and Bonuses" part of the chart and have nothing to do with promotions.

Sorry for the confusion Dr. Buzzard, but it is as Tarondor has said. Because there are no rolls for gaining rank (mostly because in this specific society rank has no real meaning), I decided to allow you to gain the extra skills from the "Ranks and Bonus" table as if you did gain a promotion. So everyone will be able to gain the skills up to rank 3. I hope this makes a little more sense to you. What career are you looking to take?

Once we get started, I will allow characters to gather certain equipment from a list of items available to the party. As to weapons, Slug throwers are more prevalent than energy weapons, but as this was also a military depot, and you have not really needed any weapons in the 30+ years you have been here...well lets just say you have all kinds of stuff in those warehouse!!
If you are looking for something specific just ask...also all this equipment is TL-12.
Ephraim Cole
Here is Cole's background:
Fortunately, his mother was a survivor and quickly found work as part of a scavenger crew. Although, they barely scraped by Ephraim’s mother taught him how to survive by using his wits. Unfortunately, when he was eighteen, his mother passed away after developing cancer from too much radiation exposure and Ephraim was forced to put the lessons he learned from her to good use.
Since his mother’s death Ephraim has wandered from job to job, earning a living by cannibalizing old equipment, salvaging parts, or repairing what he could.
Also, here is a summary of the changes made:
Changed stats 8, 8+1, 8, 9, 9, 6 (gained 1 background skill)
All four terms as Drifter (scavenger), this changed my skills
Term 1: Streetwise +1
Term 2: Jack of all Trades, Vacc Suit +1
Term 3: Mechanic +1
Term 4: Dex +1, Mechanic +1
Basically I lost Investigation 1 and gun combat but gained Mechanic 1 and +1 to EDU. I intend to regain investigation and gun combat through connections.
Ephraim Cole
Connections:
Estelle Beaumont – Busted bones, scrapes, burns, and torn muscles are a common part of life as a Scavenger. So it should come as no surprise that Cole has been under the care of Doctor Estelle Beaumont on more than one occasion. Perhaps he has been a bit too quick in seeking care from the good doctor but he enjoys her keen wit and inquisitive mind.
Marcus Aurelius Carter – Cole has been questioned by Officer Carter several times and has ran into him even more in the course of the security officers duties. Time and time again Cole has been surprised by the man’s passion and determination in keeping Thoth safe and secure. Over time Cole has developed a grudging respect for the meticulous officer
I will develop connections with the others as I see their backgrounds.

Making one right now, in fact!
Roll 1: 1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + (2) + 2 = 10
Roll 2: 1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + (3) + 2 = 10
Roll 3: 1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + (3) + 2 = 11
Roll 4: 1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + (2) + 2 = 8
Roll 5: 1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + (2) + 2 = 9
Roll 6: 1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + (1) + 2 = 7
Roll 7: 1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + (1) + 2 = 4
OK, not bad. 10, 10, 11, 8, 9, 7. I can work with that. And because I like the randomness...
Str: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Dex: 1d5 ⇒ 4
End: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Int: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Edu: 1d2 ⇒ 1

OK, taking Athletics, Carouse, Survival, and Vacc Suit at 0 for my 4 BG skills.
I'm going to have to build the rest of him once I head home, and have access to my books.

No worries Misroi, get it done when you are at home...
I am going to set a deadline now for anyone else wishing to join. I will give until Thursday night for everyone to have their characters finished and submitted. Friday I will make decision on who will be chosen and we can get started. How does that sound to everyone?

I have a pdf of the 2008 version. How many changes are there between the two?
1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + (4) + 2 = 12
1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + (1) + 2 = 9
1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + (4) + 2 = 12
1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + (3) + 2 = 11
1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + (1) + 2 = 6
1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + (3) + 2 = 9
1d6 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + (3) + 2 = 8
Well, that looks like a nice set.

I have a profile with the skills selected.
Since Flyer was a denied skill, can we swap it for another? It's listed as a basic training skill for workers.
Also, Are you holding strict to the "start at age 18, 4 years per term"?
Which would mean we are all 34 years old, and four years old when the empire crashed.
For a background, I'm contemplating Dad being a database admin in charge of record maintenance and mom is an engineer.
Her mom frequently tells her that she was born with a datapad in one hand and a spanner wrench in the other. With a keen intellect and a strong mechanical sense, Emilyene absorbed information at a prodigious rate. She's followed in her mom's footsteps and works as a general troubleshooter when she isn't working with the environmental systems.
Emilyene is rather slight of build, with quick reflexes. Her jumpsuit has been modified and scavenged from two different uniforms. She's sewn on a few extra pockets and loops for tools and gadgets. She keeps her red hair trimmed short for when she needs to get into a vacc suit.
Growing up on Thoth didn't allow for having much of a childhood. She learned early on from listening to her parents that the base was struggling. As such, she often stays up late reading through tech manuals and old data files looking for innovative ways to keep the base running.

You may vary your age up or down by 5 years, but I want the group to be close in age....you may also take another skill to replace Flyer..sorry did not realize it was one of the skills for citizen...
Background looks good...now just make 2 connections, and you may take another 2 skills (or increase 2 you already know)..
Emilyene Shadye
Possible Connections:
Estelle Beamont - Emilyene and Estelle spent time together in what passed for training in engineering and basic first aid. They've kept close as Emilyene often comes by the medical unit to check on its systems. They've made it a routine to eat dinner together at least once a week. Usually to discuss the guys.
Ephraim Cole - Emilyene has run into Ephraim on several occasions as she often needs someone to locate under utilized equipment for her to keep the core systems active. They've developed a working relationship where she turns a blind eye to where the parts come from, and he has someone that will come out to the fringes of the base for repairs.

@Emilyene: Electronics is not a science skill in the 2016 version, but rather it's own skill...see below...
This skill is used to operate electronic devices such
as computers and ship-board systems. Higher levels
represent the ability to repair and create electronic
devices and systems. There are several specialities.
SPECIALITIES
● Comms: The use of modern telecommunications;
opening communications channels, querying
computer networks, jamming signals and so on, as
well as the proper protocols for communicating with
starports and other spacecraft.
Requesting Landing Privileges at a Starport: Routine
(6+) Electronic (comms) check (1D minutes, EDU).
Accessing Publicly Available but Obscure Data Over
Comms: Average (8+) Electronic (comms) check (1D
x 10 minutes, EDU).
Bouncing a Signal off Orbiting Satellite to Hide Your
Transmitter: Difficult (10+) Electronics (comms)
check (1D x 10 minutes, INT).
Jamming a Comms System: Opposed Electronics
(comms) check (1D minutes, INT). Difficult
(10+) for radio, Very Difficult (12+) for laser, and
Formidable (14+) for masers. A Traveller using a
comms system with a higher Technology Level than
his opponent gains DM+1 for every TL of difference.
● Computers: Using and controlling computer systems,
and similar electronics and electrics.
Accessing Publicly Available Data: Easy (4+)
Electronics (computers) check (1D minutes, INT or
EDU).
Activating a Computer Program on a Ship’s
Computer: Routine (6+) Electronics (computers)
check (1D x 10 seconds, INT or EDU).
Searching a Corporate Database for Evidence
of Illegal Activity: Difficult (10+) Electronics
(computers) check (1D hours, INT).
Hacking into a Secure Computer Network:
Formidable (14+) Electronics (computers) check
(1D x 10 hours, INT). Hacking is aided by Intrusion
programs and made more difficult by Security
programs. The Effect determines the amount of data
retrieved; failure means the targeted system may be
able to trace the hacking attempt.
• Remote Ops: Using telepresence to remotely control
drones, missiles, robots and other devices.
Using a Mining Drone to Excavate an Asteroid:
Routine (6+) Electronics (remote ops) check (1D
hours, DEX).
• Sensors: The use and interpretation of data from
electronic sensor devices, from observation
satellites and remote probes to thermal imaging and
densitometers.
Making a Detailed Sensor Scan: Routine (6+)
Electronics (sensors) check (1D x 10 minutes, INT
or EDU).
Analysing Sensor Data: Average (8+) Electronics
(sensors) check (1D hours, INT).

I am mostly done with generation, just some fast questions -
I have one connection so far (Thanks, Marcus :)), and I will wait to see other backgrounds.
At any rate, do the skills we add through connections have to be ones we already have, or picked from any available to us from our career?
When we're finished and picking from the Group Package, how many do we choose - is it one?
Daniel Stewart
|
The connection skills can be anything either you or your connection already has. So you could improve any skill you already have, or if Marcus has a skill you would like, then you can chose that one.
As to the Group Package, you get ALL the skills there, you just need to chose who gets what. So if there were 8 players, each would get one of the listed skills, whereas if there were only 4 players, each would get 2 picks from the list. You each will get one pick, then you may decide who gets whatever is leftover. Here is the Group Package Skills again:
Pilot 1, Deception 1, Electronics 1, Gunner 1, Gun Combat 1, Persuade 1, Stealth 1, Medic 1
