The power of Isletta's acid positively melts the snakes. After the torrent of magic, all that remains is disgusting ooze where snakes once were.

"Yuck." Garret said, turning his head away as the smell wafted up to where he sat in his hammock.

"One more. I'm doing this one. I don't want to watch another elemental scream like that."

Without really waiting for approval, Garret braced himself and unhooked one end of his hammock, letting it hang down the wall like a rope-ladder, then climbed down, taking care not to let go of it when he reached the bottom in case the floor dropped out or something.

Do I die?

You know i didn't really think that out to well.. I have a cantrip that does 1d3+4 dam per casting.. Woulda took longer but saved a spell..

Still holding onto the hammock to steady himself, Garret floated down to the floor.

Surprisingly enough, the floor doesn't drop immediately out from under him. The room remains silent and still, featureless but for the two open chests and the one closed one.

It's just your average solid gold chest. No hidden catches, no poisonous hidden tips around the lid's edge, no sticks of alchemists' bombs lining the outside.

Garret carefully opens the chest, standing to the side of it.

Cautiously, Garret pulls open the final chest while his mage allies wait above.

For a moment, nothing happens. The chest is empty.

Garret breathes half a sigh of relief before the inside of the chest is enveloped in darkness and the skeleton of a giant emerges, two scimitars in its hands. It cleaves in front of it at Garret, catching him with one blade as it emerges. Having drawn blood, it plants one bony foot on the ground and growls.

Garret takes 13 damage. Begin combat!

Garret grunted as the blade unexpectedly caught him across the cheek, biting deep. Expertly, he pivoted with the blow and returned two of his own.

Power Attack, Defensive: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Damage: 1d8 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15

Power Attack, Defensive: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18

Then his spiral shield manifested as he raised his axe high with one hand and held the other out before him.

Activate Crane Style as a swift action, Force Shield with axe hand as a free action.

Since he had already been to the side of the chest when the skeleton burst forth from it, he was pretty sure his companion's sight lines were clear, but to be sure, he quick-stepped further around the massive foe and called up without looking.

"Light it up."

Surprised by the sudden appearance of a giant out of the box Isletta pasues a moment before cuppping her hands a sending a cone at the beasts head.. Aiming at its heads to miss Sir Garret

Reflex save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 success!

One of Garret's axe blows bites deep, sinking into cracking and crumbling bones, but the other skins off of the bones' tough surfaces. He settles into a defensive pose just in time as Isletta sends a powerful wave of acid into the room, scorching the walls and ceiling as well as the golem's side. Impossibly, though, it pivots or moves somehow as to avoid some of the harm.

A rumbling sound issues from between the golem's bony teeth, and it turns to Garret once again, swinging its scimitars with deadly efficiency.

Scimitar Attack!: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22
Scimitar 2 Attack!: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17

...Garret proves too puissant for it, however, as he blocks one blow with his force shield and the other with a quick sidestep. The scimitar crashes into the ground just short of Garret.

Golem health 55/90. Shadassa and Aviel are up.

"My my, well then." He then popped out of existence from where he was and next to his cousin. Placing a hand on Garret's shoulder.

"Come along cousin, no sense staying down here." He then focuses a few seconds before both he and his cousin are warped back up and out of the pit.

"Ladies, the Golem beast is all yours."

As a swift action Aviel is shifting down next to Garret. Grabbing him and assuming he is willing, using a standard action to warp them back out. 10/11 shifts and 200/240 ft. of Dimensional steps remain.

I'm in melee range with a large creature. Usually Spell-Like Abilities don't provoke AoOs, but when Aviel warps down he is within Reach of the skeleton.

If Aviel's action provokes an AoO from the skeleton golem, Garret will take the attack on himself, and deflect it with Crane Strike (and get one last parting shot in with Crane Riposte)

The ability will provoke an AoO (so go ahead and roll that attack), but warping out of the hole won't make you safe from it (it can reach up and out of the hole) unless you just get up and walk away. It can't climb up and out.

As Aviel begins to warp them away, Garret lashed out with a savage punch, slamming his mailed fist into the skeleton's hand as it tried to slash at his cousin.

"Hmmm...is it immune to fire, do you suppose? Away from the edge, my friends."

Shadassa creates wings of fire to ensure she is out of the giant golem's reach If necessary--not sure about the angles here--if need be she will float up to get a better shot and blasts it with a Fireball.

Update time!

Shadassa rears up, flame roaring into existence from her shoulder blades and spreading out to catch the air sucked in to fuel it. Raising into the air, she raises a hand and sends out a tiny red bead hurtling into the room.

Garret Reflex DC 19: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Golem Reflex DC 19: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Garret pivots and twists, interposing the golem's body between himself and the resulting explosive blast and avoiding harm. The golem, however, is not so lucky.

Aviel recites a short arcane chant before vanishing and reappearing next to his cousin. The golem sees him, and as he begins to vanish yet again, with the intent of leaving the room, swings a scimitar at him. Garret grabs the scimitar's edge with his gauntleted hand, and throwing it away, returns with a savage punch that knocks the golem back a step, but doesn't quite damage it.

Isletta has a very surprised look on her face as Shadassa fireballs the creature.. She then pulls out a wand and fires it at the creature..

"Take a step back, ladies. Let it focus on me." Garret said maintaining his position at the edge of the pit.

Maintaining Crane Style. It has reach and I don't, so I can't do much but make myself a target. I'm going full defensive, boosting my AC up to 32.

Garret assumes a defensive pose in front of the casters while Isletta lets out a penta of missiles at the golem. Each impacts it heavily, causing its "bones" to creak and groan.

It looks up at Garret and unleashes a dizzyingly fast array of attacks - very surprisingly. It moves with a vigor it didn't have before.

The first two blows merely scrape the rock around Garret and are blocked by his force shield, but the third appears to get through - until he grasps the blade at the last moment and turns the blade aside.

Shadassa, still airborne, extends her hands just so and utters a divine word. A cone of fire shoots from her fingertips.

"I hope it doesn't regenerate. Refreshing to fight something," she offers.

"I think that might have been it." Garret said with a shrug. "There was nothing in the chest with the snakes in it, and when that skeleton appeared the chest it was in exploded."

"And honestly, I really don't trust that ring either. It was delivered too neatly. How can you tell if something is cursed?"

The check for iding cursed items is 10 higher than the normal item.. The DC for a ring of prot +1 is 20, so i needed a 30 to see if something was amuk with it..

Wait.. You can take 10 with spellcraft.. DUr DUr... Retconed she gets the 30..

Can you guys please like...actually roll for your checks? I kind of hate taking 10/20 and there's a lot of that happening instead of actual rolls. There's SUPPOSED to be a chance of failure all the time. All the same, the ring isn't cursed.

If you wanna houserule no taking 10/20 thats cool, but its built into the system for a reason.. When you have the time and are not harrased by murk nurks than the rules say you can take 10.. If you can do all those things plus have no negative penalties for failing than you can take 20.. Again if you dont want us to use them i would suggest a simple house rule that they are no longer allowed..

Aviel glanced at the ring, he had the look of someone being pulled out of thought, and waved a hand dismissively. "No, not right now. Besides, I believe you have more than enough skill on your own. Show some confidence in your own ability."

He then turned and began making his way back to the larger hall. Half talking to himself and half to the rest of the group.
"I think we might have to check the other crawlspace as well. If I'm understanding the riddle from earlier, there is likely another pit there. And maybe a hidden area above... somewhere."

This secret tunnel is significantly longer than the other one, and loops around quite a bit. Garret reaches a dead end after just a few moments, though, and the spell Isletta's cast on him reveals the lines and seams of a secret door right in front of him.

Ferrek quietly pulls out a periscope and offers it to the paladin. He still hasn't said anything since entering the tomb with the others, or even really made eye contact with any of them. He's just been there, observing.

Garret waits for a moment to be sure there wasn't going to be a trap or a creature lying in wait, and takes the periscope and looks into the new chamber.

Chapel accoutrements fill this chamber, including great wooden pews on either side of a central mosaic path that leads toward an altar on the far side of the room, which is separated from the pews by a wooden railing. Scenes of everyday life are painted on the walls, but all the people are portrayed with rotting flesh, skeletal hands, and worm-ridden orifices. Yet depicted amidst these disturbing portraits are various symbols of Torag, Iomedae, Sarenrae, Desna, and Pharasma.

Behind the wooden railing is an opalescent blue altar, which is set before a tiered dais that supports a well-carved and padded wooden chair. Two large brass candelabra, each holding five white candles, stand on either side of the dais. Two large white pottery urns, each stoppered with brass, sit in each corner. A human skeleton wearing badly rusted
and torn black chainmail lies dead in the southwestern portion of the room, one outstretched arm seeming to point into a mist-filled arch on the southern end of the west chapel wall.

The room extends 35 feet to the south and is 35 feet wide. The secret door entrance is at the exact northeastern corner.

"Yes, now be careful Garret. Any number of things could go wrong and I do not have any more assistants ready to call at the moment." He then snapped his fingers and looked back at seemingly nothing. "Follow him if you would, and do as he says."
