'YeYe.'
For a brief moment, as he considers her, he feels her warm presence with him, rushing up from his hand, almost seeming to be tracing and petting Mope on his chest, and gently touching the draconic flesh of his face, before he smells the breath - her breath - and knows she is thinking of him and desires to see him again, and be with her loved one...
... and then the moment is gone, the distance between them returning.
a new plant friend
Inarus briefly feels a moment of cold envy flare from the spot he knows the crystal to reside, before the emotion of a sniff, sigh, and encouragement. Someone wants to see him soon, and is jealous! And then the contact is gone, broken, even as he walks down the hall.

"I did try put her on the dragon, it didn't work." He replies to Usawoti. 'Ooops, someone didn't take it quite the right way' He thinks to himself, as he briefly suspects that its the maiden. 'Probably better for Usawoti to carry her.'
"Do you mind carrying her as a necklace?" Inarus asks Usawoti. "I think there might be a misunderstanding that I'll need to clear up when I get back." He mumbles, rather embarrassed.

After determining the properties of the amulet
Inarus realizes that it may not be the best of ideas for Usawoti to take the amuket. 'It's a doubled edged sword. Power, at a price. I'd better take it.' "Usawoti, could you pass me that strip of leather you took out from the white dragon over there, please? Pass that to me, thanks, I'm making a bracelet to carry her along." He then puts on the completed bracelet.

A bracelet? Usawoti smiles and nods, and hands Inarus a strip of leather, asking 'So what is she or what does she do now."
Being almost finished with the dragon hide he begins to wrap the pieces up and tie them to his pack. He then stops and casts a healing spell on himself and asks Inarus, "If you want to wait a few moments so I can meditate I can prepare a couple more of higher level spells, do you have anything in mind?"

Telepathy to Usawoti
"To unlock her full power, I can either shed my blood to nurture that her for a season. I'm not sure if I want to take that step yet. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have her get a taste for dragon blood." Inarus explains to Usawoti.
"You'd probably want to protect yourself against that sleepy gas, maybe protect yourself against fire attacks?" Inarus suggests.

As a reminder, neither of you need to make the 'required' stuff to 'activate' her full potential, for now.

It's one 5th level and one 6th level. Does anything stand out to you? I was wondering about "breath of life" it looks like it may be appropriate or possibly break inchantment or bind sage. What do you think of 'banishemnt' or 'raise dead' for the 6h level spell?
'need to decide if I am going to meditate, or if we are better off not wasting time.' Usawoti finishes packing up the dragon hide then asks Inaurs. "Are there any higher level spells you can think of that might help us here, I don't mind taking the time to meditate if you can think of something that may compliment your new found powers."

GM Tacticslion |

I'd say breath of life is a really solid choice, but I don't think raise dead will really come into play, much - it's nice and all, but 'dat material component cost... break enchantment might be ideal, though.
EDIT: I should be clear, I say this only sort of as a GM. I'm not giving you a hint of what you will face, only taking into account what you already have.

hhhmmm, break enchantment or bind sage I liked both for different reasons, if I had something to use to bribe the 'sage' we could find out where the 'key' is and get out. But it's probably not that easy. But at the rate were fighting 'breath of life ' seems like the obvious pick, I'm having more trouble with the 6th level spell,

GM Tacticslion |

Urg, didn't even consider bind sage for some reason - vhoops! Hm, it's a pretty solid. I'm looking it over again, now.
EDIT: Well, after looking it over, it's certainly up to you. You guys are desperate for knowledge, and they do tend to have it. Heck, one option is even to conjure several (depending on your spells/day) and get them to start researching for you, or simply Aid Another their knowledge (and/or yours).
Do bare in mind, these are not "hints" that I'm giving, so much as thoughts based on what you've seen and what you've said. It may well be impossible or unlikely for that to work. But it may be ideal. As for what you'd pay them, well, there are certainly several sentient creatures right nearby... *cough* >.>

Inarus |

No I'm not killing anyone for knowledge. Or offering any sacrifices. If they're dead, food is one thing. I'd say lets just move to the end of the tunnel, find Shuuvu, then use visions. We have a control panel to find, so we can fix things outside.

It doesn't say the Caulborn kills them, it says "consume the thoughts of a willing, helpless, or fascinated creature with a touch attack." Not the same thing. The purpose of the spell is: "The caster of this spell can compel a bound caulborn only to provide information (using its Knowledge skills or detect thoughts)" the payment is "The most effective gifts for a caulborn are unique books or intelligent creatures upon whose thoughts the caulborn can feed." So if all else fails we should consider it. Ok on we go, first step find Shuvuu, cause don't I need him to get new spells everyday? And if defeating a elemental in this 'area' means that our brand is somehow changed doesn't that mean that we must go into at least seven areas and defeat a elemental. Now the question becomes if we need to do more than one type of elemental for each sin, negative aspect and one for each grace, positive aspect. So seven or fourteen, then we need to figure out what doors the other two 'keys' open. It looks like we may fight both elementals that the machine is producing, so I would assume if we come in here again there will be new elementals to fight. But we also fought another creature that was caught in here. So theoretically we should be ready for anything.
As Usawoti and Inarus walk Usawoti asks 'Did you notice when we first were fighting the smoke elemental that the Circle did not work, but then it did? What could have changed, how could the creature go from not evil to evil. What possibly possessed it to do that?"

Going to ignore skinning/crafting time - partially because I'm lazy and don't want to look it up/make an arbitrary ruling, partially because I'm going to make an arbitrary ruling that wild magic just kind of extended the time, and informed you. Hey: it's primal chaos - it can do what I it wants! So: 13 minutes total (20 rounds plus 11 minutes) ticked off against buff clocks.
Please feel free to add to conversations and moments.
============================
You travel down the winding, shifting, but mostly empty corridor, slowly tracing the tip of a set of layered runes for "air" or "gluttony" - much harder to tell which, when you're on the inside.
It doesn't take too long before you run into a split - heading in three different directions. Choosing one I'm arbitrating for the sake of not-making-this-boring you eventually hit a dead end and find what appears to be a well-preserved-in-ice dragon corpse. Hm. An old brass, it looks like. Carefully skinned, the pieces separated, meat kept frozen... though experiencing a kind of burn the two of you have only ever heard about - a kind of burn only afflicted on things that are too frozen.
Choose what to do with it.
============================
Eventually, with nothing better to do, you head back, taking a different route. It, too, is a dead end, but along the way, it has a slew of corpses, though these are humanoid. Their bodies have been relatively destroyed - shredded, burned, cut, broken, and pierced in myriads of ways. Their gear has been just as blasted, and what little survived whatever killed them is rather rusted and worthless. Inarus recgonizes them as sylphs, air veela, although there's a few suli and one larger disgustingly decomposed corpse that Inarus realizes, after pondering for a bit, is actually an air yai oni.
Usawoti, examining them, realizes that all were abusers of various aeromatic substances - like the smoke of spirit journeys - to the extent that it was actively harming them. Some of them probably died starving, while others were fat. All are dead, and mutilated pretty badly.
An especially stinking and disgusting slurry of what probably used to be living creature is just near the dead end, along with several corpses entirely burned. Disturbingly, the burned corpses poses are... wrong. After a bit of investigation and pondering, Usawoti realizes it seems like these burned victims at the back might have been bound, though now nothing of their bonds remains but ash.
Again, eventually, nothing else of value is found, and you turn back for the way you came. The final branch lies ahead.
============================
After about eleven total minutes of travel, Usawoti is warned by Mope, "There is death ahead, master! And evil!"
Both of you begin to hear the sounds of what seems like combat.
Inarus picks up high-pitched voices screaming at each other in Auran.
"This is the site of our master! None may pass! The great Hungerfrost will destroy you ****ing filthy 'splitters!"
"You ugly ****ing half're losers! How dare you claim to serve our master, Hungerfrost! We'll slash you to ribbons for your blasphemy, and eat you, jus' like he taught us!"
"No! We're ****in' gonna gut both'a y'alls and eat y'r insides while ya watch, you heretics! For master Hungerfrost!"
"Not before we **** all y'all inna face, and rip your limbs from your bodies an' make ya watch while we eat 'em, ya filthy wannabes! Hungerfrost rules only us!"
The passage winds out of sight ahead. Eventually, once you move forward about ~400 feet (not able to be seen, due to the twisty nature of the passages), there will be three more directions to go - left, right, and 'straight' (really it's more "only a little left" but it's easier to declare which of those you go, later. Your characters can't see this yet, but this is the site of the battle. I'm mentioning it, because it'll be pretty obvious, once you get there, but I'm trying to give you options and understanding now. There are going to be four sides to the battle, with a fifth side simply watching, silently.

A short while later Usawoti asks Inarus, "Have you ever heard of a creature called a Caulborn? While I was in Kaer Maga I learned a spell to call one to give information, You need to give a gift, some type of ancient knowledge like a book or the thoughts of someone. I've never used it but I was wondering if one of them might be able to help us with the answers we seek."
a question of the dragon and raise dead. does the ice preserve it so only the time it was thawed counts against the raise dead, or does the entire time count?

GM Tacticslion |

The entire time counts, I'm afraid. As someone with knowledge (religion) can tell you, it's more how long the soul's been away v. the power of the spell than strictly the condition of the body. You know, I've changed my mind. It's a cool idea, and I've never heard of anything like freezing for preservation in the game... but I've not heard the reverse, and, thinking about it, gentle repose is a thing. Besides, if Pharasma's judged the thing, it wouldn't work at all, and that's got nothing to do with the time limit, so... nevermind. Sure, the preservation works. Wasn't what I was thinking, but that's fine.
I don't know if you'll have access to it, but if you found something that would let you reconstruct the missing bits, like resurrection or reincarnate, I'll allow it.
That said, this "dragon" has been well separated into parts and had quite a number of them eaten. So even if you did use the raise dead spell (which can only do mild repair work, and does not regenerate things), it'd be missing several slightly important things, like it's brain, one and a half lungs, much of it's internal organs, and quite a few muscle groups...

’Is that a brass dragon? Who would cut up and freeze a dragon...what a stupid question, the white dragon that had frost breath.’ His stomach growling uncomfortably, Usawoti looks around at the filleted frozen dragon. ”Looks like the work of our white friend. Too bad that we would have to put the matching parts together so I could raise him, It looks like a lot of them are eaten and he would have been a powerful ally.”

It's going to take a little more than 27 Heal check {17 for Usawoit, -2 for neg. lvls., +2 Aid Another from Inarus, and take 10 = 17-2+2+10 = 27} to determine what, exactly, killed them. The bodies have been messed with.
After some time, it becomes clear that nothing is happening with the plant and oni corpse.
"i-i am sorry that it does not" the device says nervously.

GM Tacticslion |

Hm. I actually misread Inarus' question. Usawoti can determine that most of the bodies in the hallway were (after death) slashed by high-powered dust and grit, and many bear scars of electrical burning, or just soot-and-ash burning. The lingering detritus of such abounds. It's impossible to say if this killed them, and, in most cases, the only thing that can be concluded for sure is that they were ruined after-the-fact, too, with a DC 27 Heal.
As for what ruined the bodies into a pool of ick at the end, that'd be straight-forward "acid" though it'd take some solid knowledge of some kind or another to guess what. Similarly, the scorched remains are burned enough to say, "A really, really hot fire." caused the burning (much hotter than anything that might have mutilated most of the creatures in the halls leading to the dead-end), but that's about as far as it goes, without some solid knowledge checks, and a really high Heal check.

GM Tacticslion |

As you round the last bend, intimidating the fussy speakers, you see a horde of small, fiendish-looking hmanoid with horns, thin wings, tiny claws, and sharp teeth stretched into oscillating forms of devilish and mischievous smiles, or furious, starving, and spiteful frowns.
It's not a small horde, either - well over one-hundred, or possibly two-, of the little things infest the locale where several halls cross each other:
- one group is pale, especially thin and seems much more breathy than needed; despite tossing insults and clearly despising and threatening most of the others around them, they seem only half-focused on what's going on, as even those most forefront seem to be looking at... well, most anything, really; the lot of them keep taking deep, big breaths, holding them for too long, before slowly releasing and looking weirdly happy
- one group, dirtier than the rest, scratches themselves constantly, which only increases the slight rain of dust they seem to leave everywhere; they seem especially focused and snicker gratingly at everyone and everything else; they scratch handfuls of skin flakes, dust, and grit off of themselves before sniffing deeply, inhaling as much of it as possible, and dropping the rest
- one group at first seems to be almost made out of thin lightning (though you determine in an instant later, it is flesh instead riddled with lightning), as it create a small "zap!" noise with every movement it makes; tiny bolts arc off of it, causing it to shudder with mild pleasure, and zapping everything around, even those of its own kind (who seem to ignore this); these seem jittery
- one soot-colored, crimson-eyed group that's a little hard to make due to the thin trails of smoke they shed everywhere; they seem... out of it, despite threatening and posturing like the rest
- one group that is far more numerous than the other four, that seem cold - and, in fact, have frost growing on them! - who sneer at the others and who are, in addition to filling the tunnel before you both, literally holding themselves above the others, as they seem to be hovering the closest to the ceiling compared to the other kinds, seemingly watching them all with a sadistic look in their eye; a few of this kind is sparsely spread out in the center and other corridors, watching the other four
All five spin in shock at the sudden presence of the two of you.
In addition to the hallway you are in now (one mostly blocked by the cold creatures), four more passages branch off in different directions, each of which holds one group of the little beasts.
At your sudden appearance, they look, almost in unison, at the bracelet Inarus indicates, and several dozen of the creatures, spread among all five groups, freak out and flee down one of the corridors in panic.

Inarus |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Inarus draws in a deep breath, then unleashes his breath weapon upon the biggest bunch he can catch.
Its a 50 ft cone
piercing dmg subject to DR, reflex 24 halves: 12d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 1, 4, 5, 4, 2, 2, 4, 1, 5) = 36
breath weapon recharge: 1d4 ⇒ 3
After he has sent a cone of deadly shards flying, he bellows,"Now scat before worse things happen to you!"
Activating frightful presence DC 22 will - is a breath weapon considered as an attack?
Also I have combat reflexes and can take like 5 AOOs per round

NOW!
1) each "side" has ~ 25,132 cubes to fill
2) each "side" (except ice) has ~1/2 their number (up) in their "tube"
3) ice has ~2/5 its number in its tube, and 3/5 distributed between 'center' and each of the "tubes" areas
a) ice: 37 in area with heroes/tube; 55 spread into others (~11 in each area)
b) air: 19 in tube, 18 in center
c) dust: 20 in tube, 20 in center
d) lightning: 18 in tube, 18 in center
e) smoke: 20 in tube, 19 in center
Total in center (all affected): 11 + 18 + 20 + 18 + 19 = 86
Total affected in ice "cubes" (hee): 2,094 cubes of 25,132 cubes -> 1/12; but! it's 'central, so... *2 (or 1/6)
Total affected in sides: 4,188 cubes of 25,132 cubes -> 1/6
Total affected on opposing cube: 3,141 cubes of 25,132 cubes -> 1/8
Reflex save -> 18 damage; all affected lightning mephits and smoke mephits begin dying, only those who fail the reflex of the other three do so.
Because of unequal distribution weighted towards the area of effect, presume that a '+d' of twice the amount affected is affected (i.e. 6 affected would be +2d6, 3 would be +2d3, and 2 would be +2d2) more than indicated. Also, all 55 of the extra ice elementals would be affected, due to the same uneven distribution.

Inarus breathes death across the halls. Tiny, tiny holes appear in the mephits as they stare at you, and almost half of their number fall, especially in the center.
Those couple dozen that were hit who manage to survive the blast decide that they are not sticking around to see that happen again, and flee down one of the hallways - the hallway with the smoke mephits (those least affected, due to the blockage flooded with other mephits).
Most all of those remaining scatter, quickly, heading down the air mephit tunnels, save the lightning mephits, who flee down their own.
Only a few dozen stand their ground, vicious, fierce, malevolent.

Inarus, you've attacks coming in - a lot of 'em. Not too dangerous for you, though... not really. They do bypass DR/magic, though. The first five represent AOOs. They have AC 15 (normally 17, but charge, you know), and either 16 hit point (electricity and smoke) or 19 hit points (the others), and come at you in the following order.

[ooc]Inarus only, Will DC 14 v. Chill Metal
The other two blur out.
=======================
Inarus - the mephits surround you in a way that's hard to catch multiples in your breath without also hitting Usawoti. Both you and Usawoti are effectively flanked by the shockingly fast little mephits. (Inarus: I did not permit the original five to flank you, nor the first air mephit for either your or Usawoti, or the Dust mephit for Usawoti, under the assumptions you'd 1-shot them, and/or there wasn't a partner there, yet. They are clearly fiendish to your knowledge, and smiting you.
It is currently Usawoti's turn. Fifteen of the vile little creatures are hovering near Inarus and Usawoti - ten (or, more likely, five by now) surrounding Inarus, and five (or, more likely, four, by now) surrounding Usawoti. After U's turn, it'll be Inarus' again, and then these guys. There are a little more than 15 hanging out in the hallways... waiting?

Worried for his friend's safetu, he infuses his body with magic before unleashing a series of deadly strikes on those mephits near Usawoti. (I'll leave 1 mephit for Usawoti). He swots down a total of 4 mephits, with one claw flying wide of one of them.

so what would happen if Usawoti just stayed mounted on Inarus?

GM TL what do the fifteen in the hall look like, are they mixed or a specific group/element?

so what would happen if Usawoti just stayed mounted on Inarus?
They'd both eventually get saddle sore. ;P
Seeing his friend slap down almost all of the little flying creatures threatening him Usawoti breaths a sigh of relief. "Thanks Usawoti, what do you think the ones in the hallway are waiting for?"
Heheheh!
GM TL what do the fifteen in the hall look like, are they mixed or a specific group/element?
They are mixed air, lightning, and dust, with a slight preference for the lightning. It seems no ice or smoke currently remain.
For clarification: Inarus, if you wanted to leave one for Usawoti, you'll have killed one previously near you along the way - he'd killed one of his five already.
That leaves five still-adjacent to the dragon (he's pretty long), and one next to Usawoti.

Next up is Usawoti, then Inarus
As Inarus roars his defiance and aids his friend (much to Usawoti's relief), the creatures, clearly crazed and ravenous, continue their attack, unabated, salivating at the two, and trying to (ineffectually, if painfully) bite them, even as they rend at the adventurers with their claws (mostly ineffectually).
