Thirst - A Ravenloft PbP

Game Master Celestial Healer

Set in the land of Ravenloft, a band of intrepid heroes searches for a way home, but their fate may be inextricably tied to a vain, power-hungry madman. Uses the Pathfinder ruleset.

Anuqa can tell these are constructs with a malign intelligence, but not much more with that roll.

Knowledge (Arcana) DC 19:
These dolls are intelligent evil constructs. Some dark force has animated them. As they are made of wood, they are likely vulnerable to fire, but immune to cold. They have some resistance to spells (SR) and resist damage from weapons that are not magically enchanted (DR/magic).

Can we swap your last 2 rolls from different games? :(

The tiny blade clangs off Leandro's armor while he looks surprised, then annoyed.

If only...

Also, note I edited the post with the dolls' actions.

Male Human Sorcerer 6 {AC 13 [17 with mage armor]), Perception +9, HP 23/27}

"The best I can do is go with what worked last time," Anuqa sighs (also, partially in relief the dolls didn't target him with their knives) before reciting an incantation that brings his hand to light again.

Casting the spell is all I can do in the surprise round.

34/34HP , AC17

"Don't Ma-rush-ta-ya friend Leandro and attack him, Doll-face." Tybalt says suddenly as the bloody doll charges forwards. The young mans eyes are wide open as he backs up slightly as his thighs hit the table behind him.

Surprise Round action, Start Inspire Courage

The dolls leap into melee, cutting with their tiny blades and showing obvious delight at the sight of human blood.

1 attack vs Leandro: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23 vs flatfooted. Damage on hit: 1d2 ⇒ 1 plus Bleed: 1d3 ⇒ 2 and Sneak Attack: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10

Crit confirm vs Res: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25 Crit damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2 (For such dangerous little buggers, their critical hits are remarkably meaningless.)

Reminder: Bleed does not stack. On your turn, take bleed damage equal to the highest bleed roll you have been hit with.

Do we take the bleed damage this turn, or does it go into effect on subsequent turns (y'know, as we bleed)? I read the definition and wasn't certain, but I thought it hit on the turns after the initial bleed hit was inflicted. So is Leandro's round one damage 11 or 13 (both with 2 bleed at the beginning of subsequent turns)?

You take your bleed damage on your turn, before taking any actions. It’s treated as a condition, so it is based on your turns, not theirs.

Durrr, got it.

Male Human Inquisitor/6

Dr. Tovanarish curses as the doll’s blade finds a tender spot. He raises his hands and a spectral mace streaks towards the doll that hit him.

Spiritual Weapon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 221d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7.

34/34HP , AC17

Tybalt moves forwards and flicks out the whip towards the small doll, keeping out of reach of it's small arms. "Baby-doll, you ain't got the arms to reach us."

Move to K28 & draw weapon

Continue Inspire Courage 4/13

Half-orc Slayer 6

Ignoring the doll attacking him for the moment, Volidrian steps into the flank with Dr. Ezrakion Tovanarish, square N29, and delivers a pair of quick cuts to murderous toy #2.
1st Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
Damage 1: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
sneak attack: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3

2nd Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Damage 1: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
sneak attack: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10

Dr. Tovanarish’s spiritual weapon cuts at the doll, while Volidrian strikes at it with his blade. However, the evil doll seems somewhat resistant to Volidrian’s blow. I do not believe Volidrian’s melee weapons are magical. The hit was reduced by DR.

So far only #2 has been hit.

The dolls do not seem to be healed by that channel.

Anuqa is up.

#2 and #4 have been hit.

Male Human Sorcerer 6 {AC 13 [17 with mage armor]), Perception +9, HP 23/27}

Anuqa moves close to one of the damaged dolls (to L28).

"This hurts me as much as it probably will hurt you," the sorcerer mutters as he reaches out for the creature.

Touch Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Fire Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

If the attack deals damage, the doll must succeed on a DC 16 Fortitude save or catch on fire.

Anuqa's burning touch sets the doll alight and it writhes in agony before expiring on the floor.

With its fire vulnerability, that was enough to take it down.

Note: Leandro's channel would cancel everyone's bleed damage, so you are starting fresh this round.

Two of the dolls move to flank Leandro, deeply aggrieved by his use of holy magic. The third strikes at Volidrian.

There is no door that you need to open here. Also, there were no sounds heard from up those stairs (although feel free to roll Perception if you want to listen carefully at the base of the stair). Of course, Tybalt is on edge and this is a creaky old row house, so it could be entirely within character if he thinks he heard something - but you haven’t really.

Some of you did notice that the blood spots (which someone - presumably the dolls - tried to hide) form a trail that leads up those stairs. You have not yet found the toymaker’s body which Magritte said she found in the sitting room, so the blood trail could be the result of his body being moved.

Also, you had earlier noted a lot of papers and personal effects on the desk in this room. Let me know if you are searching that or anything else here.
