Does freedom of movement affect my ability to escape the engulf or move within the body?

Can I cast a spell defensively from where I am? Is the DC based on standard defensive casting?

What's the action requires to use the spell-like ability of a magic item - same as casting the spell?

Don't forget my performance lingers for another two rounds even if I don't get to continue it in my current position.

In response to your comments:

1. I forgot about FoM. While it does not prevent the Engulf attack, it negates the whole full-round action to escape. It would be only a move action to escape Kyuss' body.
2. You are treated as taking continuous damage from the worm bites during the round, so spell casting from within its folds is impossible as no one can make the concentration check when you add in the damage modifier.
3. You could escape using an item and in that case, it's a standard action, unless the spell casting time is longer.
4. Noted.

I'm unsure of relative positions - the latest map doesn't seem to match my mental image of what's occurred. I trust you to move me in a manner that makes sense.

Through the blinding pain, even searing through his mind, Bublaka realizes that the 'body' of the god really doesn't prevent his movement, so he pushes forward, a spell on his lips. When he emerges into the air and feels the cool air on his innumerable wounds, he focuses and with a word, steps through an azure doorway that appears from thin air.

Casting defensively, he automakes the concentration check for dimension door. Where he moves to, I'm not certain, but he might not necessarily think the destination through that much, either. Do I have some sort of flight available at this point? I'm not sure I do.

Bublaka, you have no flight on so I can move you to the outer reaches of the roof. Are you using a mythic point to take an extra standard action or is your round done?

The bard escapes Kyuss' grasp and dimensions door to the northern side of the roof, outside of Kyuss' 30' reach! He then casts a Flamestrike spell that fails to pierce the god's considerable magic protections.

Alie and Valgrim up to end Round! Kyuss is adjacent to Alie as he can walk on air.

Alie dimension doors to the top northwest square on the current map, hoping to get away from Kyuss.

She uses a mythic point to allow a separate standard action in which she casts Time Stop. She gains 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 rounds of prepatory time.

Alie casts 5 different persistent delayed blast fireball spells, all with one round less time to explode, so that all five of them will explode right as Kyuss blends into Alie’s timeline.

So by my figuring, that will be 6 9th level spells in this action, counting the persistent metamagic added in.

Last thing as I have to run. I know we know his spell resistance number. If I am within six of it or any of the rolls, I’ll burn a mythic point to try to add a d6 to try and beat his number. I don’t have time to look up his SR right now, though. Thanks.

Alie, according to my calculations, you have used 5 MPs before this round. Your burn your last two to beat SR number. The first is automatic since Kyuss' SR is 40 and you rolled 39. For the 37, you add 1d6 ⇒ 1 and fail, so two fireballs penetrate SR.
Kyuss' saves:
1st fireball: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (12) + 23 = 35 and 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (6) + 23 = 29...fails
2nd fireball: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (17) + 23 = 40 and 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (11) + 23 = 34...success

DC 32 Will save to resist. Even Valgrim and Friar have to save to see if it affects you in later rounds. As Bub and Alie may draw an AoO as you approach, will wait for results of saves before continuing round.

Valgrim, you have Brilliant Inspiration again, so those misses might be hits if you want to try them. Or I can use the action to try disrupting his spellcasting if you'd rather I take the action back.

Completely missed the buff, Bub. Go ahead and take the action back. I just really don't want the baddie to rinse and repeat the Time Stop and heal cycle.

Readying an action to dispel his first spell, then.

The fury of the dwarf catches Kyuss by surprise, as Valgrim lands four powerful blows that leaves Kyuss reeling!
Round 8: Kyuss
After fast healing, Kyuss has taken 484 damage.
Realizing he must eliminate enemies off the board, the demi-god grips his Executioner's Mace, ignores the fire elemental and attacks the party, first trying to engulf the dwarf! He then carves up Friar, invoking screams of pain and anguish, as the demi-god slices up the cleric at will, until the wounds are too deep and he collapses! Kyuss then lands a perfect blow on the bard, driving his blade through the half-orc silencing his song!
DC 39 Reflex save or suffer 20d10 ⇒ (2, 5, 4, 2, 5, 2, 7, 4, 1, 2, 8, 5, 9, 9, 4, 7, 8, 9, 1, 10) = 104 damage and 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6) = 13Intelligence damage.
Whether Valgrim is successful or not, Kyuss then full-attacks the healer and then the bard if Friar drops, as you are both within his 30' reach.

Oooh...that was a really good round for me, as three of the heroes fell!

Alie, you cannot cast Heal as an immediate action so that strategy does not work, even with Wish. The best chance you may have is the Undo Misfortune part. Let me know what you wish to undo.
Undo misfortune. A wish can undo a single recent event. The wish forces a reroll of any roll made within the last round (including your last turn). Reality reshapes itself to accommodate the new result. For example, a wish could undo an opponent's successful save, a foe's successful critical hit (either the attack roll or the critical roll), a friend's failed save, and so on.

Alie, use your Wish on Bubba to have Kyuss reroll the possible threat (19). I'm so dumb, I have 5 Hero Points. Valgrim uses one of them to add +2 to save and makes a 39 Reflex save! #boom. I'm not dead yet.

Bublaka will withdraw directly away from the demi-god and position himself so that Valgrim is just within 30' and between Kyuss and the bard.

Is he able to ready a counterspell using Amazing Initiative once he's in position?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Guys, I have been battling a flu this week but will post soon. Kyuss is not done just yet.

Back to the action...Valgrim does not have to use a Mythic Point for extra standard action, so he has 2 remaining.

The dwarf's first two blows from his epic greataxe bring the demi-god to his knees, much to Kyuss' shock. The next two blows cause the demi-god to scream in pain, as his worm-filled corpse crumbles under the final blow! However, instead of the intense joy and relief you should feel, there is only dread, as the corpse suddenly explodes in a geyser of Kyuss worms, threatening all present!
All the players present must make a DC 39 Reflex save or suffer 20d10 ⇒ (1, 9, 2, 8, 10, 8, 9, 2, 9, 8, 4, 4, 4, 2, 2, 6, 3, 3, 4, 8) = 106 damage from hundreds of slavering bites and1d6 ⇒ 6 points of Intelligence damage, as the worms burrow into your corpse! If Valgrim or Alie fail the save, you do not suffer the Intelligence damage as the dwarf's Repel Vermin prevents the burrowing and the worms burn upon contact with Alie's fiery body.

After the explosion, the threat of Kyuss is not over, as the swarms of worms coalesce in the corner of the roof and Kyuss emerges again from their midst with his Executioner's Mace in hand, as regal as ever, though he is 10' shorter than before (20' tall now) and still has fresh wounds. His re-emergence invokes a 100' aura of fear, which overwhelms the party, as you feel the demi-god's true horror. In his raspy voice, he speaks, "You will never win, heroes...I am immortal and I will dance in your blood!"
Bublaka and Valgrim are immune to fear thanks to Greater Heroism. The rest of the party must make a DC 41 Will save to be shaken only. If you fail the save by 5 or fewer points, you are frightened. If you fail the save by 6-10 points, you are panicked. If you fail the save by more, you are cowering.

After the two saves, the party is up!

Valgrim dives to the side and evades the damage from the worms.

Round 9:
Valgrim feels no fear at the demi-god's re-emergence. He looks at the blood on the blade of his axe and screams at Kyuss, "As many times as it takes to bring you down and rid the world of your taint....I'm here all day!"
Valgrim spends the MP he did not use last round to sudden charge Kyuss (provoking AoO) and full-attacks Kyuss!
