After they allow themselves a few seconds of joy, the citizens of Maskholm agree with the ranger’s advice. As the party walks by, the looks of gratitude from the citizens, including women who clutch their young children to their breast and mouth “thank you” to the party, reminds you for whom you are fighting and the consequences if you fail. The citizens quickly rush inside the home, bar the door, and stuff rags under the door to prevent any mist from seeping in. There a mists to the east and west (about 2-3 blocks in each direction) in residential areas or you can continue on the road ahead. Which way do you head?

Valgrim addresses Exousia, "Angel of Sarenrae, I am sorry you cannot join us in battle inside the fog, but you simply cannot see more than 5' in said mist and you would not be able to effectively aid us. However, the fiends that are the cause of this undead mist that is plaguing the city are very resistant to the blows of blade, which as you have seen, is built for destroying undead and not fiends. I would be honored to wield your blade in battle against them, if you would allow me. I am sure your blade will cut through their flesh like butter and would help us conserve Alie's magical energies. I know I am asking a lot, but the cause requires it. Killing those fiends one at a time saves citizens by dispersing the poisonous mist. What say ye, Exousia? We have traveled together long enough to know what kind of warrior I am and that I speak the truth. I will return it to you immediately upon the fiend's death."

If she agrees, I ask Alie to enlarge me, so I can wield her large +3 holy greatsword.

Exousia grips her sword, "You are an honorable warrior, Valgrim, and the end of world is upon us, so these are extraordinary circumstances. Please return the blade stained with the fiend's blood!" The angel smiles and waits until the dwarf is enlarged and hands his her holy blade.

At the edge of the mist, Bublaka casts magic twice, casting Haste on the party and Brilliant Inspiration on Valgrim. Then, just before the ranger and the sorceress disappear into the mist, the bard starts inspiring courage.

Valgrim and Alie see the corpses of citizens on the street, the poor souls who could not escape the mist in time, destined to rise up as undead, if the Broodfiend is not destroyed.

Two rounds later, still within visual sight of the bard and inspired, Valgrim sees the Broodfiend 100' away dispersing the unholy mist, unaware of the party.

After Valgrim chops off both of the fiend's arms, he buries the blade in the mass of tendrils where its head ought to be, killing it. After the mist disperses, he hands the weapon back to Exousia, winking at her, "That enough fiend blood for ya?!"

I am realizing at these high power levels, going last means you're dead. That and a failed Daze save will end you! Have yet to get one swing in....amazing!

Valgrim's description pretty much sums it up, as he dismembers the fiend and ends its life. Exousia smiles back as she grips her weapon, "Nicely done, Val! First time I ever lent my weapon out to a mortal. I was right to deem you worthy."

As the mist disappears, citizens who were peeking out their windows at the short battle, come out wary but hopeful. Some rush over to the deceased loved ones on the ground, while others acknowledge the heroes who have saved their lives. Your celebration in clearing another mist covered area is cut short, however, as the sound of church bells rings out over the city. You can tell the ringing is coming from the Church of Kord (Golarion equivalent: Gorum), which is maybe 5-6 blocks from your present location. Some of the citizens start murmuring that now that the mist has cleared, the safest haven may be the churches, given their ability ward off the undead. Dozens of citizens start running, in the direction of the ringing of the bells.

Done. Thank you for the concise summary and keep up the good work, Valgrim & Co!

As you reach the the Church of Gorum, you see a a male priest in his early 30's, handsome and muscular, and garbed in chain mail, ringing the bells and drawing a crowd of about 200 souls who have come for sanctuary and a safe haven. The priest stops ringing the bells and steps out on the front steps of his church to address the scared and nervous crowd. "Please everyone calm down. I am Lanthis Chax, high priest of Gorum. These are desperate times and we have to resort to desperate measures. My church only has capacity for 50 people, so hiding and waiting out the horrors of these days to pass is not an option. I say, we flee the city! The Toilway, the principal avenue in Maskholm, remains free of the insidious mist. If we do not delay, we can escape the city via the eastern gates but we have to act now! We cannot remain in King Midas' city any longer if we want to survive; I am sure that it was his madness that unleashed this terrible catastrophe on our city! Who is with me?"

The citizens start to look at each other and murmur that perhaps fleeing the city is the best option, while others say it is suicide. However, before a consensus can be reached, a towering creature comes from around the corner into view of the masses: a Broodfiend, attracted by the ringing of the bells!

It is about 60' away from the church grounds and the party. Screams of terror abound! Since the Broodfiend is moving and outside the mist area, the mist it disperses only covers its 20' stature, granting it full concealment (50% miss chance) from everyone except Valgrim and Ale.

The crowd cheers as the dwarf is flung over to the fiend and severely injures it! Exousia takes to the skies, her wings carrying her close enough to impale her blade in the fiend's shoulder. As the creature staggers, Friar's spear of energy flies from his hand, engulfs the creature, and destroys it, as its corpse collapses to the ground.

There are a few cheers for the heroes' victory, but arguments start among the crowd directed at Lanthis, "You want us to brave the streets with those towering giants out there! If if it hadn't been for these warriors, this whole crowd would likely be dead! You're crazy Lanthis if you think my family and I are fleeing through the streets." Protests against Lanthis' course of action start gaining speed through the crowd.

Suddenly, a voice from the streets speaks, "If you follow Lanthis' advice, you will all die!" The crowd turns to the speaker and sees a tiefling priest of Asmodeus (the patron god of the city) approach the crowd surrounded by two dozen soldiers and warriors. Lanthis screams back at the priest, "No one wants you here, Viktor. Take your soldiers elsewhere and let us save ourselves." The man known as Viktor appears enraged, "You are a traitor Lanthis, urging the people to leave the city. Bah! King Midas is safe and sound in our church. He has come to our Cathedral to lead mass to call upon Asmodeus for deliverance in these dark times! He promises salvation to those who join him in the Cathedral and threatens wrath and doom to those who flee and have no faith! Besides, ours is the grandest Cathedral in the city, with capacity for 300 souls!"

As the crowd of 200 souls ponders their options, a priestess appears and you recognize her as Almerak Kosen, High Priestess of the Scarlet Spire and faithful to Norgorber and dating interest of your old friend, Vulcan Stormwrath. She ignores you and moves to address the crowd, her shrill voice cutting through the crowd. "Listen to these male fools and you will all die. My Scarlet Spire promises you safe haven....if you can honor my god with the proper offerings worthy of his stature."

Some people gasp at the idea that Almerak is offering salvation for bribes, while other desperate souls search their pockets for coins and jewelry to pay. It is clear that the crowd is torn over which option to choose and as they start arguing between each other, you can tell this has the beginning of a riot if someone does not take charge.

The floor is yours.

Friar smiles, "Alie, back me up...you too, Bublaka!" He closes his eyes and feels the presence of Sarenrae in his heart, which calms his nerves, as he walks to the front of the Church of Gorum's steps. He lets out a breath and looks over the crowd of desperate souls, eager to live, and he sees the despair in the eyes of mothers clutching their children. He nods to them and speaks, "Ladies and gentlemen. Three grand faiths in this city have proposed options, some more savory than others." Friar gives Almerak a dirty look for trying to get rich with the apocalypse upon them. "I am a humble priest of Sarenrae and I do not have a church or cathedral to offer you. However, you have seen the might of my friends and I. We are trying to save the city in its greatest time of need, while your supposed King seeks more unholiness to invade this city. You must reject Asmodeus. Norgorber seeks your treasures now, in your most vulnerable moments. Reject Norgorber! And Gorum is just plain foolish to suggest you brave these city streets while death rains down around. No, none of these options is the right one! Not for your souls and not for the safety of your children, who are your greatest treasures now, not your gold or your possessions. So I offer you a fourth choice: a safe haven where you will not be cold. You will not go hungry. You will not suffer from the elements. You will not be invaded by the forces of evil. I offer you a place of complete safety that none of these other priests can offer you. A place where you can hide from the dangers of the city for the next day and a half. Too good to be true? You have not seen our power in dealing with the forces of evil. But we are also a beacon of hope and we can make miracles come true. Now, let us welcome our miracle maker. Come forth, Alie."

Friar extends his hand to the sorceress and whispers to her, "The mansion!" He then addresses the crowd again, "Come forth and enter a place of complete safety. Please make an orderly line, women and children first. This place has room for all of you. Nice and orderly!"

Alie's mouth fell open. She hadn't even considered using that spell. "You know, that just might work. It should last for almost two days!"

The timeline worked perfectly because the group only had around two days. If they failed, it wouldn't matter that the Mansion spell expired.

Bravo, Friar. Loved the rp scene and the solution. Fate Point to you!

The crowd has tears in their eyes by the conclusion of Friar's speech as cheers go up through the crowd, as Friar's voice thunders with such force, conviction, and persuasion. 63 Diplomacy is sick! The crowd fully believes in Friar and his words and screams of "Screw you: Asmodeus, Norgorber, and Gorum!" start being chanted. Mothers hug and kiss Friar and bless his soul.

Alie casts the magic and the crowd disappears through the portal where they fall to their knees in tears and gratitude, as Alie introduces her seen servants and instructs them to keep her guests fed. She then reappears outside and allows each civilian access to the extradimensional space. Frustrated, the priest of Asmodeus and priestess of Norgorber depart and return to their churches for safety. Lanthis, priest of Gorum and his flock of about 20 worshipers, requests access to the mansion and apologizes about his crazy and desperate idea. About 8 minutes later, most of the crowd has entered the mansion, when Exousia cries out a warning: undead troop of knights approaching! The last 20-30 civilians rush inside the mansion as it disappears from sight.

Valgrim and the party see the troop of knights and you are very familiar with them. They are Kyuss Knights, immune to cold and electricity, who fight with executioner's maces (the same weapon wielded by Kyuss), are garbed in full plate armor, and have Kyuss worms for eyes, which drain intelligence. You did not fight them, Alie but anyone can tell you that they do not fly. They are ground shock troops.

Peeking in again... Is Bublaka's haste active from the last broodfiend battle? I assume not. I will mark that and one round of bardic performance off.

Buff round 1 Bublaka casts good hope with the lesser rod of extend magic to make it last 40 minutes.
Buff round 2 Bublaka begins to inspire courage as he casts haste on the allies.

Friar takes out his wand of maximize greater and casts a Sunburst of searing radiance, engulfing all of the undead in Sarenrae's holy light.
Damage=126 and blinded; Reflex save DC 27 or 63 damage and no blindness. Since it is a Reflex save, undead not immune to blindness.

Exousia casts a Blade Barrier over the first line of undead to form a blockade to force the undead knights to endure the blades.
Damage: 15d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 3, 2, 5, 1, 3, 6, 4, 4, 6, 1, 1, 2) = 51

Friar's ball of searing radiance burns the Kyuss worms that the Knights have in their eye sockets, leaving all but one of them blind! Exousia follows up with a wall of magical blades that batters the knights.

Alie targets the rear four undead, casting her Hungry Pit spell, trying to drop them into her 200' pit!

D.C. 28 Refelx save to avoid. Not sure how much damage falling into a 200' pit would do, but those that fall into it, take 4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 6) = 19 damage from the contortions of the pit each round. Please roll the falling damage, DM, since I'm not sure. Thanks.

Sorry for delay, moving on.

The enlarged dwarf moves quickly to the front line and bashes the damaged Knight into pieces.

Knights of Kyuss:
The knights, all of whom are blinded, oddly are not perturbed by this fact. It appears they have trained for such an occasion and they react accordingly. They drop their shields, grip their executioner maces two-handed and march forward!

Knight #2 rushes Valgrim, who destroys the knight with his opportunity attacks (Valgrim hits on a 1, so no need to roll).

Knight #3 moves up and attacks Exousia (the angel gets an opportunity attack). The Kyuss Knight focuses and unleashes a powerful blow on the angel! When she feels the blade touch her, she feels negative energy flow from it, as it hates her innate goodness!

The rest of the blind knights swarm the giant dwarf, but his skill at facing undead is unparalleled and he avoids and deflects all of the blows. Valgrim can see the Kyuss worms dancing in the knights' eye sockets, ready to spring to action.

AC 28 without shield...Well, my bad guys fell in the dwarf's trap! And that mythic power of not missing on a 1 is paying for its weight in gold. And if everyone remembers the scene in Wanted, cue the music....

With a flick of his wrists, Valgrim turns the blade in a semi-circle fashion striking all of the undead knights and chopping their heads off one by one, until he destroys the five unholy warriors! Only the 2 active knights on Exousia remain and the three trapped in the pit!

Don't make angels angry...

The Planetar shows off her force as she destroys both Kyuss Knights threatening her with three well placed blows from her holy blade!

That pit is going to last 20 more rounds and the knights obviously cannot climb out and I assume none of you is jumping in and since you are conserving spells....will fast forward some. Out of combat.

5 rounds later....

As you stand prepared chatting in front of the church beyond the Blade Barrier, while you wait for Alie's spell to expire, suddenly, 40 feet ahead of you and 30 feet above you in the air appear seven medium-sized figures. Alie and Bublaka immediately recognize the castings of a Dimension Door spell. The first is a human sized undead warrior dressed in spiked armor wielding a wicked looking bastard sword, floating in the air. However, the flesh on the figure's face has not eroded and Valgrim, Friar, and Bublaka recognize the figure from your past immediately: Loris Raknian! Yes, the same Loris Raknian, former champion of the Arena whom you met all those months ago at the Champion's Games, who tried to summon an Ulgurstasta in the Arena to kill the champion and sacrifice the city to Kyuss! Yes, the same Loris Raknian who escaped in the chaos after the undead beast appeared! His sword is humming with energy that you can hear its soft pulses at a distance and he looks very powerful and evil!

However, Loris is not alone. He is surrounded by six undead liches, similar to the liches who were guarding the negative energy machine under Lashonna's manor before the ghost priests appeared. Loris addresses you, "Champions, we meet again, though the woman is not known to me. As you can see, I have changed quite a bit since you last saw me...or shall I say before you stopped the prophecy in the Apostolic Scrolls and saved the city. Guess we found another city to sacrifice, eh?" Loris listens to the chaos and screams that can be heard throughout Maskholm. "Music to my ears...anyway, I am here to kill you, if you have not guessed it yet. Yes, after all, Mistress Lashonna is upset that you have been killing her Broodfiends and so she called upon her favorite emissary for the task and here I am....with friends of course." Loris looks at Valgrim's feet and sees the remains of the 7 Kyuss Knights. "If I recall correctly, Valgrim, you won the Champion's games and it seems you've been taking your anger out on my shock troops. Well, big boy, care to take on a former champion? I think I can teach you a thing or two!" Loris seems very confident...to the point of flying down to 5' above the ground (40' away from the dwarf behind the Blade Barrier), well within Valgrim's reach, and beckoning him with his free hand to come over (a la Matrix style!). Loris looks up to the liches, "Kill the rest, the dwarf is mine. And start with the woman, I've heard her magic is quite powerful!"

It would appear that only the ones in the pit remain. I think I will conserve spells, as well. In fact, Bublaka stops actively inspiring courage, but his lingering performance allows the benefits to continue.

HP 223/223, 0 temp; AC 27, T19, FF 21, additional +2 vs undead foes, DR 2/- vs undead; 47/52 rds BP; 5/7 MP; CMD 39 (41 vs trip); 1st6,2nd6,3rd5,4th3,5th2,6th4

I imagine haste has run out, so Bublaka will refresh that spell and start inspiring courage once again. Since Alie goes after Bublaka, the bonuses should be in effect when our favorite dwarven bomb lands on the former champion.

Haste lasts 1 round per level, so 20 rounds. Only 8 rounds have passed so it is still in effect. The Inspire Courage did expire (Lingering Performance only makes it last 2 rounds longer). You would have to spend a swift action on the performance and whatever standard and move action you wish.

I don't believe I cast haste before the last fight, that was lingering from the battle previous, so it's been longer than 8 rounds, but I'm not sure how much longer. The good hope persists because he extended it and it's a minute-per-level duration. However, your accounting is what matters - I can put the 3rd-level spell back and cast something different if you still think I'm wrong.

Sovereign Court

AC (33)28/(22)17/(28)23 | HP (188/188)(+20 temp) | F+(22)18,R+(22)18,W+(28)23 | Evasion | Mythic power 3/7 | Perception+30, Initiative+11 | Spells left 1(10), 2(9), 3(7), 4(8), 5(7), 6(0), 7(0), 8(5), 9(0)

Thats fine. I didn't recall they had 120 HP. I'll tk Vlagrim into action, then cast quickened disintegration as the second part of my post. I'll add the mythic point back, add a 6th level spell and mark off a fifth level spell plus keep my one rod charge left.

Just before the start of the battle against the Kyuss Knights, you posted that you cast Haste. That Haste is still in effect. Thus, you still have a standard and a move action, Bublaka.

Buff round 2 Bublaka begins to inspire courage as he casts haste on the allies.

Casting Persistant Mythic Disintegrate while using normal Maximize metamagic wand. If hits, damage is 360 plus 1d4 points of Con damage. Need two DC 37 Fort saves to avoid. If avoids, take 5d8 points if damage.

If it still stands, she casts Quickened Disintegrate at the beast. If it doesn't stand, she casts a Quickened Disintegrate at the next closest one.

RTA 1d20+15

Damage 40d6

DC 37 Fort save needed. If succeeds, takes 5d6 damage.

SR 1d20+24

Used two 6th level spells, last charge on maximize rod and one mythic point.

Alie's quickened Ray strikes the lich and it disintegrates into dust!

Fort save vs. DC 37: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
