I'm a bit unclear about the situation. I believe that Blackerly and the rest of the guards are in the center section of the first floor of the gatehouse (3a). They are waiting for reinforcements.

There is no portcullis unless it is on the outside of the castle with a mechanism on the first floor. This would be unusual.

Kelvar has a good idea going into 3c and shooting them through the arrow slits.

These guys are tough. 2nd level fighters. Our healing is almost exhausted. So a straight up fight would be suicide.

If we light 3a trapdoor on fire and throw the keg of oil down, we can burn them.

We can climb down the exterior face with the knotted rope, we can escape.

Maybe we can leave the characters of the players who have left to fight a rearguard action to allow the characters of the players still here to escape into the moor.

This game is personally tough for me to follow with the limited posts and momentum. I would greatly appreciate if Holy would just narrate the escape and reboot the game with the surviving player characters on the way to meet our benefactor.

I would find it strange that the main entrance to a keep/prison would not have some type of gate/portcullis, although I suppose they could have taken it down. I figure burn the bad guys and then shoot them when they try to flee the fire. The oil should encompass most of the entrance area.

The reason that I figure there must be a gate is that there are the arrow slits, logically these are probably designed to create a kill zone where any invaders can be trapped between a gate and the main doors, and then guards can fire on them from the arrow slits.

Yeah with how this is all set up, and the CR system being what it is, I feel like we are supposed to run.

Which is fine, we kind of took a lets kill them all approach and that is becoming unrealistic. Escape is whats needed. Lets just throw burning barrels down there at them and use the window to climb to the ground and escape. There shouldn't be anymore archers I don't think.

Burn them and shoot them. Then we can run away. If we just run, I am sure we will end up with guards shooting at us.

Sorry for the delay folks. The issue has been dealt with and I shall now proceed at projected pace... To garner sympathy I will mention that I attended a funeral today for a friend. I won't go into it any further however.

I know we have lost a few more. Caprin and Kord for sure. So those that do not post regarding escape and finding the manor will be of the group that decided to go their own way, without a map, and guards on their tail. They likely will meet some terrible sort of fate ;)

For everyone still playing, if we need to recruit another, it is easy enough for someone to already be at the manor and I'm sure there are plenty of players that would like to play past the prison escape if my reading of other threads is any indication.

I think we have six still here though and if that is the case we will continue on with that number.

Really, the only area we are a little weak on is pure arcane casting. Azrim is sorcerer/summoner, Kaath is a bloodrager, and Rosemary is a magus. We have several slayers, so we should be able to cover the skill roles pretty easy. We have an oracle, a cleric and 2 warpriests, so I do not think that divine is a problem. And, most of us have 1 full BAB class, so melee is definitely not an issue.

I think that we should be good to go. Smaller devoted parties tend to work better anyway. We just need to get everyone back up to speed, and then we can get rocking with being wicked.

Also sorry to hear about Kord. I rather liked him. But as has been stated, I think we'll be alright. Weak on arcane? Please, I have it covered. I can arcane all day long and then some. Plus we have that magus (if she's still around).

Understood, the only problem is that you are the only full arcane. If something happens to you - stun, unconscious, sneak attack, food poisoning, cute drow ladies, then we are short. We have most other roles covered, usually with 2-3 people.

Honestly, I think our weakness is ranged. Yzera, you're focused towards dual-wielding, Kaath is focused towards unarmed (Sacred Fist) and the rest of us have lower Dex scores. If we find ourselves in need of another character, someone with some archery skills would not be a bad thing.

This is all very true. Perhaps a Ranger or Zen Archer/Empyreal Sorcerer is what we need. He/she could be crazy good at rays.

Archery is one of those funny skills. Most of the value from the feats - precise shot, PBS, improved precise shot, snap shot, point blank master, etc, all have to do with being in combat. If it is shooting from a distance, Yzera with her strength and dexterity will be a pretty good archer (of course if she rolls like she was before, then 4-5 archers will not help).

I would not complain if someone wanted to play a wizard(or sorcerer)/fighter(or ranger) going arcane archer route. But, for now, lets stick with who we have. We can always add someone at some point in the future if we find we are sorely lacking.

One of the biggest problems with PBP is consistent posting. Most of this group seems to be pretty good. When parties grow, the inconsistent posting grows exponentially. My vote at present is to stick with what we have. If 1 or 2 more go AWOL, then we will have to decide how to adjust things.
