DM XVII
Welcome y'all.
So, let's talk about post tempo. Essentially, my expectation is that we keep pushing each other forwards, and to try and to not let any scenes drag.
When we're in combat, I think for now we're going to start with a round being 24 hours long.
This can be adjusted to what we end up finding mutually suitable to all.
I think an appropriate minimum posting rate per week would be 4 posts minimum.
That might seem slow, but there's a twist to it;
I will reward Inspiration at the end of each week to any players who make 8 constructive IC posts within that week.
Constructive here is defined as being around 60 words or more, and either hooking other players towards interaction, or pushing the scene forward.
I define a week as being from Monday thru Friday.
During the weekends we will break, but you can still post and move the game forwards during the weekend if desired. It happens sometimes.
Your weekend posts will count towards your Inspiration post count for the next week.
All of this is negotiable, and I would love to hear how this all makes the lot of you feel.
It's not meant to be oppressive, it's just for bolstering tempo and keeping our game threads alive.
I also want to communicate that if a majority decides we want to take a break, that we should do so. However, if we do, I don't want our game to just teeter out and die. In the case that we do take a prolonged break, I would ask that we each post in the Discussion thread once a week to just check in on everyone's OOC life, shoot the s$+~, and so on. This will help us retain cohesion as a group and to help gauge where everyone is at for when to re start the game.
Please keep questions of clarification and all OOC talk in THIS thread.
I want the IC thread's gameplay to be as seamless as possible.
When our introduction PM threads are finished, we will proceed with the gameplay thread.
Again, ask me anything if anything is unclear. Welcome aboard.

So it won't let me roll dice in PMs, so here you go:
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Insight on his captors: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Athletics to test his bonds (not trying to break them but trying to determine how hard it would be to do so: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Hi gang! Super excited for this, thanks for having me DMXVII!
This is what I imagined Roscoe to look like, (and he looks a lot like his dear dad):

Also, a request: Please use URL tags for links. If you don't know how to do that, click the "how to format your text" button below the text box on this page.
When you post full url's, it stretches out the page so it no longer all fits the width of my phone. Now I have to pan left and right to read posts, or zoom out far enough to the point where the text is too small to read.
GM Requests: Can I change up some of the mechanics for the Draconic sorcerer to better fit the fluff of this PC? Instead of learning Draconic and having a bonus to charisma checks for dragons, I'd rather it be something more thematically appropriate. I'm not sure what, have any ideas?
Also, there's a Tiefling only feat in the new XGtE book. It's also thematically appropriate for this PC. Can I ignore the race requirements for it? I'd be taking it at level 4, so we have some time. Some of the feat benefits are also a bit redundant.
DM XVII
Should be a yes to both, just gimme the deets on the feat for fourth. You do know we are starting with an extra feat at level one, correct?
For the minor draconic stuff, I would say to base it off of the city of brass lore in whatever fashion. Take what is written about it, make some educated assumptions, extrapolate those, and you should find your proper theme. We can tinker with the charisma thing no doubt.
Language itself is warped in this plane, so that won't come into play much, but having rapport with dragons very well may, so the books' stuff is still useful.
Is it correct that you have a tail?
Merek Montague
I ended up making the switch to fire genasi. Not as good a fit, mechanically, but it worked better for the image I was going for.
So no tail. :)

Ah, sure thing! Thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out and keep it in mind. I'm also looking at how to get the stats nice and neat in the profile when posting.

DM XVII here.
When you click on your alias' face and it brings you to it's page,
you go to edit, and then there are the fill in bars for Race and Class and such on the left hand side. BBcode works there, and generally speaking you can fill out just those two bars with all the info you need. If you need an example/template, here is an old PC I had. This given information is sufficient for our purposes if you add Race, Passive Perception, and your Perception mod.

For a profile, click on your PC image and it will take you to your post history. See the tabs?
Click the one that says profile. Then click edit.
Copy all of this over to your profile:
That character sheet is for official Adventurers League gameplay, so you don't need everything. But it does have all the formatting you'll need for a clean, easy to track character sheet.
Delete the section for Logsheet. Convert the section titled AL Notes to Notes, and then use it for whatever note keeping you like. I keep two notes sections; one for personal character notes like spell descriptions, and the other for notes needed in the game.
Then, for everything else, just fill in as needed. Remember to delete the stuff that you don't need.
Other stuff:
I highly recommend using a different image for your PC. Use something that your fellow players will be able to identify with. The 'mysterious stranger' motif tends to not work well in a social game like this.
For getting the stats to show up in your posts like mine do - that's called a tagline. To make your tagline, type in stuff in the Gender, Class, and Race sections (in that order). See my profile for an example. I try to only type in what will fit without having to scroll over, and I put in all info the DM will need to see for my PC that won't require him to click any links.
DM XVII
I will be opening the IC thread prematurely, with a snippet of the final prelude, to open a window for roleplay and for the sake of letting the four of you meet each other.
The inciting scene will be posted around 2pm EST tomorrow. Expect it.
We can play through the weekend if need be, however I am travelling all throughout. Come whatever may. See you all in a moment.

What do you say to infernal instead of Draconic, and then genie-kind instead of dragons for the bonus to charisma checks?
I'm not even sure if either of those creatures exist in the world, though. So maybe you can pick something that is thematic and will have a chance of seeing play?
Merek Montague
Something I just realized, but all genies are also elementals. So if I picked elemental in general, I'd be getting just as broad a monster type as dragon. Would elemental monsters work for this campaign?
-Roscoe-
I think this comes closest as picture.
Here's some rolls for in game:
Insight: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 (Insight to the white devil that warned him. Was he the boss? Was he annoyed and on edge or just doing his job? Just another day at the office for this weirdo, or a big score?
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14Scan of the prisoners, to look for clues of where they come from. Are we still in Kessig?
Nature/History(both +2): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 Digging through his memory for stories or lessons about strange white men or flesh tortoises.
DM XVII
@Roscoe:
Insight: You can tell that this individual bears a higher attitude than those of his companions. His eyes shine brown in one, and emerald in the other. He is tense.
Perception:
These people would never be accepted in the Church of Avacyn. These are beyond duality, such are their forms. Are they even truly, people?
In all regards, you believe yourself to be in nowhere else but Ormendahl's realm.
Know:
Nothing comes to mind.
We are officially under way. Welcome to the saga. May you fare long.
You've until the end of Monday before Round 2 begins.
If there was anything else that slipped through the cracks involving our PMs, we will resolve the rest of them here.
Also feel free to ask any OOC questions, here. Thank you.
-Roscoe-
Thanks for the in-game info, and the inspiration :D What can it be used for?
A roll for his attack:
Eldrich blast: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Note: I know you said not to expect spells and magic not to work as expected, so anything from the moment where he tries casting misty step is wishful thinking I suppose.
Merek Montague
Inspiration can be spent to roll a d20 two times and take the better result. That's also known as Advantage.
Disadvantage also exists, where you roll twice and take the lower result. Inspiration can be spent to cancel disadvantage.
DM XVII

[dice=Eldrich blast]1d20+5Note: I know you said not to expect spells and magic not to work as expected, so anything from the moment where he tries casting misty step is wishful thinking I suppose.
Sweet! Thank you! This is a good timing actually!
So, whenever you cast a spell/use a 'magical' class/race feature, write it out as normal as you would expect, in the gameplay thread.
Roll the dice, describe the manifestation, business as normal.
If you feel like leaving certain cosmetics open ended do so and I'll have more room to work with, but I don't expect that universally.
I'll respond in the Gameplay thread about what happens in game with the dicerolls and the aftermaths. It's all good!
I'll be responding to the round 1 actions and posting round 2 initiative presently. Hope your weekends have transpired with all joy and abundance.
We won't be playing on Thursday, it is Thanksgiving in the States, and I for one will be extremely busy in meatspace during.
Cheers.
-Roscoe-
Man down! By my count he got 7 damage from resisting the fae attack, and armor class 11 was met by the guard for 5 damage. That's 12, and he's got only nine.
I'm hoping that means his reaction still gets through though. Casting hellish rebuke:
You point your finger, and the creature that damaged you is momentarily surrounded by hellish flames. The creature must make a Dexterity saving throw. It takes 2d10 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
2D10 fire damage: Damage: 2d10 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
-Roscoe-
Sorry for the multiple posts, but I didn't want to delete posts with rolls in them. My iPad glitched and I pressed 'post' twice.
Edit: and I see the second post didn't make it through, which is good cause it wasn't supposed to be there anyways.
DM XVII
@Roscoe
How do you have 9 hit points at level 3 friend?
You can go ahead from now on and roll whatever dice you need to in the Gameplay thread, it'll be easier to keep track of when the volume of dice being thrown virtually grows larger.
@All:
If you haven't yet, please fill out your header for your character alias and put your character sheet with both the mechanics and the fluff onto your bio. Use Merek or Kran's profile as a template. This makes my life hella easier and I appreciate it profusely.
-Roscoe-
Ah! Hold the phone.. I might have forgot my lvl2 and 3 hit points..
Hp: 2d8 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
That makes 17, I'm going to rewrite the death scene a bit. I'll also get right on that character bio.
Graiel
Dunno if it is relevant but lvl 2 dissonant whispers does 4d6.
Casting vicious mockery on the creature that Roscoe and Merek are battling.
Wis save DC 14 or 1d4 ⇒ 4 psychic damage and disadvantage on next attack roll.
DM XVII
@ Kran: This is just a sum of the things which have transpired due to dice and I'm just making sure you're aware of them so far.
You are currently Prone due to failed dex save, and have suffered 3 damage from your tangled foe. My previous calculation of this damage was incorrect.
Your Thunderous Smite damage is in tandem with your weapon damage, please roll for that in the Gameplay thread.
If you can list your Spell DC in your header that would be such a blessing.
Also, because you are prone, your attack suffers from Disadvantage
For the sake of momentum I'm going to roll your disadvantage attack for the moment, I don't plan on making a practice of this, and am sorry that I have to in the first place.
Kran Dis Atk: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Kran unarmed DMG: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Thank you. Idk if you're on your phone or not and I understand how phoneposting can get hairy.
@ Roscoe: Please put a header up so I can view your stats at all times. If you need assistance with this we are all available to you.
Aight folks, I'm going to assess the battlefield now and return it to you.
Been dealing with a cold and it's been hitting me hard. I wanted to have a full post up this morning but it's been a rough one. Thanks for understanding.
EDIT:
The rest of the round is up, I'll give you a good window to post roleplay and reactions into tonight, and post the top of the next round sometime tonight as well, let's say in about 2-3 hours.
If you miss this window you'll still be able to react and RP at the top of next round, so hakuna mattata.
Merek Montague
Don't forget that even if you're prone, you don't have disadvantage against the enemy if they're prone as well. I thought this was the case with Kran, as I thought they were both grappled and on the ground.

This is correct! Disregard my disadvantage!
The sod gets punched in the face and is knocked as previously described! 16 to the face! Thanks for catching me.

I also don't have anything related to unarmed combat, so my unarmed damage base is only 1 point.

Copy and paste this under Race. Remove the quotes.
"Hexblade 3 | Spells 2/2 | Spell DC 13 | HP 23/23 | HD 3/3 | HR 1/1"
Copy and paste this under Class/Levels. Remove the quotes, but keep that extra space.
" | AC 11 | Init +0 | Saves S-1, D1, C1, I2, W4, Ch5 | Pass Perc 12 | Status: Normal | Insp: Yes |"
You can change out Hexblade for something else if you want to be descriptive or include more info. Maybe Witch Hunter, or Tiefling Hexblade.
For example my PC build is a fire genasi sorcerer, but I put Brass Knight for his class because that's how I want him to be seen.

We will not be playing tomorrow as Thanksgiving is coming up and I will be busy. If you do not live in the US and have a holiday or something of the like and will be gone for a prolonged period of time let me know so I don't think you're MIA.
Thanks team. Don't forget to post your Round 3 Actions so I can move the scenario forwards. Round 4 will begin Friday the latest.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanks again Merek, I think I'm all set now.
@DM: I felt the post maybe didn't reflect that the perception check is mostly to see if theres anything around Roscoe that hasn't presented itself on the battlefield, and to locate the smartest exit route.

Don't forget to fully update your profile!
Half the stuff you have on there is from my old druid PC. :)
DM XVII
Kran and Merek, just so you're painfully aware, there is a brightspear on the ground right next to Kran, and a fully armed white warrior still in front of the both of you. The other warrior that Kran punched is about ten feet behind the both of you, face down on the floor groaning and growling.
I am unsure as to if the both of you have yet taken your round 3 actions.
I'm only saying this to make sure we're on the same page, you're all doing fabulous.
Play on. Godspeed.
Merek Montague
I asked earlier, but I'm not sure if I got a response.
Anyways, my round 3 action is to cast firebolt while holding Kran's chains in an attempt to break them so he can be free.
-Roscoe-
Yeah, I thought for a moment they had gone too. Round three would still be Roscoe taking his action to summon his shadow weapon so that doesn't change much. He also would try to communicate with the two of you, even with two bad guys between them.
